The Morning Rant
Our cities are burning because some people refused to accept the results of a legal election. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised by how fast the Democrats in charge of the blue cities started to circulate the narrative (and by 'narrative' I mean 'totally made-up bullshit') that the rioting and looting and vandalism that has been tearing their cities apart of the last few days is the fault of 'white supremacists.' Yes, they actually said this. And without any photographic evidence, I might add. No confederate flags, no tiki torches, no klan hoodies, not even any photoshopped MAGA hats. There were just a bunch of white guys with their faces covered that looked very much like standard-issue antifa goons. And I guess there's a good reason for that. But I guess I should've been able to predict this would happen. Because "white supremacists" are the left's go-to bad guys in all of their narratives now. It used to be "large corporations", but ever since the rise of the left-wing high-tech giants, large corporations sre cool now. They aren't the evil, sinister monsters they used to be. Except if you're one of their employees who happens to hold conservative political views and appears on the radar of the HR department (for whatever reason), you might well have reason to hold a different view. But there's some little part of me that says "oh come on, nobody would ever say anything that ridiculous and expect to be believed", but I guess I really need to recalibrate my expectations. And another thing that I shouldn't have been surprised by is the number of celebrities who have publicly announced on social media that they will be donating money to bail out the rioters and looters and vandals. Which is weird, because, why would they want to bail about a bunch of white supremacists? Don't they think that white supremacists belong in jail? That's my "gotcha" observation. But there's something more important to this sort of celebrity charity, and it's rather pernicious. By choosing to allocate their funds for this purpose, they have announced that they are IN FAVOR OF lawless acts of vandalism and looting and AGAINST law-abiding citizens and business owners who are trying to earn an honest living providing a service to their communities. And not just celebrities, I see. To these celebrities, I would like to say this: HAVE YOU LOST YOUR FREAKING MINDS?? Because what you're doing is taking sides against normal Americans. Normal Americans, I might add, who buy tickets to see your movies or concerts, pay cable fees to watch your TV shows, and buy whatever products you're endorsing. How do you think this looks? Do you really want to do this? And the Joe Biden campaign staffers who have announced their intention to donate to these groups? Is being in support of domestic terrorism the smart move? How is that going to play in the swing states? I know you'll be the toast of San Francisco and New York, but how about Wisconsin? Florida? Heck, even Minnesota. How about Minneapolis? Our cities are burning because some people refused to accept the results of a legal election.
My sense is that if Trump wins, Hillary supporters will be sad.

Ellison will presumably want to charge MN Murder One or MN Murder Two, but MN Murder Three is the right charge based on what's known. One requires premeditation. Two require specific intent to kill which is a challenge when there's no motive and no murder weapon was used.
Three is Depraved Indifference and fits the evidence like a glove. But the Mob wants One. So Ellison is doomed to overcharge and will then fuck up the case.
When asked yesterday what the charges would be against the other three he mumbled and deferred to the local prosecutor. Now he's got to make something up.

Don't know what jurisdiction he was in, but most states (especially in the south) allow that in defense of someone who's actively being assaulted. And to touch on something that was brought up in the case of the McMichael's in Georgia; in this case the MMA fighter WAS allowed to intervene and hold the suspect, because he DID witness the oriiginal crime personally, and he DID act at the scene of the crime. Neither condition were true for the McMichaels.

One of my neighbours took her kids out of our public school, which is rated quite highly, and enrolled them in a private school in Philly, which is an hour away with no traffic (there's always traffic) after Trump won because they were terrified of having their kids around white people. And it's not like the mom is a housewife. She also has a job she has to get to.
The grandma was even scared of walking around alone in our development, even though she had been doing that before the election.
Meanwhile, my mom and I would walk alone without fear and say hi to our neighbours, who are usually very friendly and often say hi first.
My affluent cousin was telling me yesterday how he was terrified that his son (Ivy league graduate, works for a MAJOR company) could be attacked and possibly killed if he was out at night and had to change a tire.
I believe black men do have to be more careful around police, and from what my nephew (who has a lot of white friends) told me, a lot of white people do seem scared of black men.
However, the level of terror is not warranted by reality.
It's a serious problem.

I think that harassment of black people by cops is a serious problem, but the idea that black people (or anyone else) are at particular risk from being killed by the cops isn't borne out by reality.
For example:
2,996 people were shot in Chicago in 2015.
22 of those people were shot by Chicago police officers.

I don't think that disproves my theory. It was planned to be because of Trump rallies. But you can't use that messaging now. They are actually afraid. Think of the lengths my neighbour lady took to transfer her kids from a school in a safe area that is covered by her taxes, is good, and is within walking distance to freaking Philadelphia.

Then, instigate riots in major cities, see if all the people who obediently stayed home and "strongly advised" others to stay home go out and burn shit and steal shit. Make program that lists these people who left their homes.
In the age of digital tracking, your speech is not your speech. Your activity is your speech. Harder to track during normal times. So they've effectively gotten a big list of Geo/IP/Device tracking on the hardest fringes of the left and some of the right. Just going to the park was seen as a bold intense political statement some weeks back. Psychologically no different.

My nephew is by no means intimidating (aside from being tall) and is super friendly, and he said he could tell some white people were scared of him. It happens.
Note that he didn't ever complain about racial problems when he lived here. No problems in high school.
But he said he encountered quite a few racists (not KKK types, just racially prejudiced) when he got to college. It was a new experience for him.

They are, sadly, outliers in a largely non-racist country, with a lot of minor background bigotry of all types and going all directions that is the background noise of the human condition.
But for a person of good will and ability, of any race, there is more opportunity to succeed in this country than anywhere else in the world. And the misguided attempt to "cure" all "racism" that can only be accomplished (or pretended) by the most totalitarian language and thought control and insisting on elevating "Diversity" to the single, dominating national value to the exclusion of all else is a cure worse than the disease.

This is the difference, subtly, between bigotry and true racism. True racism is institutional. I can encounter an act of bigotry (and have) without the entire system being arrayed against me. Bigots do not racist institution make. As for institutional racism, there may be some, but that is quite arguable. Inner-city education is a nightmare scenario, for example, and that disproportionately hits black people. Now are our abjectly failed public education, public housing and public assistance systems racist? I don't know. I think they are more egregiously anti-poor and increasingly anti-middle-class, as opposed to anti-black per se. But I think you could make an argument out of it.
But in general, institutional racism does not exist in the United States, bigotry (which is an individual affair) notwithstanding.

The out of state people are all high ranking Antifa leaders - they don't do things that get them immediately arrested - like setting fires, or looting, they just coordinate the low ranking cannon fodder and set them on their tasks. If you watch video of Antifa riots the leaders are always about 5 or 6 ranks behind the advance ranks. You can spot them because they are always looking around and sizing up the situation, occasionally you'll see them give instructions. There are always more cannon fodder in an army than officers. Those are the reasons that in-state arrests outnumber the out of state ones.

There are few African-Americans in my part of the country. But every time I have a chance encounter with one in a store or gas station, they are always overboard polite even to the point of being obsequious.
Like they are afraid I'm going to hurt them.
And this has always puzzled me, because if there's anyone who is not a threat, it's me. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't hurt anyone. I'm old, my body is visibly broken, I can barely walk, so I don't know why they should be afraid of me.

Something my wife and I were discussing last night. Everyone we see who if screaming about systemic racism we know, is white.
My wife pointed out that all the lecturing going on feels racist in and of itself. The are a bunch of white liberals who think of blacks as no better than 12 year olds who have to be excused for their behavior and spoken for on their behalf.
I think someone who *is* black, would have a better perspective on what the real situation is regarding racism. My suspicion is that it isn't as bad as we are being told by the liberals, but that it does still exist to some extent.
But we can never learn the truth, because of all the hectoring by people white knighting for the black community, who have no actual experience with the problem.
I sometimes wonder if the root of what actual racism we still have is based on white liberals thinking that blacks can't think or provide for themselves.

Of course there are individual acts of racism. And those acts burn in the memory - just like you remember the one guy who cuts you off in traffic, instead of thousand or so who obey the rules. But based on my experience of growing up white in Chicago in the 1950s, overt white racism - the racism that declared itself openly and violently - is much less now than it was back then, and is entirely gone from the professional caste that I inhabit.
Twenty years ago, I served on a jury for a medical malpractice case. One of my fellow jurors was a young black woman. She had a college education; in fact, she was wearing a sweatshirt from her alma mater, Wilberforce College. I recall that she claimed once that "nothing has changed"; all I could think, though I didn't say it, was that in the days of my childhood, the idea of a black woman sitting on a jury before a black judge in a case involving a white physician would have been considered ludicrous. Also, it was clear that she had no idea who William Wilberforce was, and my impression, perhaps mistaken, was that she had no desire to learn. How sad. But anger is a powerful drug, habit-forming and mind-altering.
