Senate Confirms John Ratcliffe as New Director of National Intelligence

A friend says, "Boy, it looks like Senators were really eager to get Ric Grennel out of his job as acting DNI."

Ratcliffe should be okay, though he has very big shoes to fill.

Related: Send this video to every conservative you know.

It is, and I say this non-ironically, straight fire.

Enough is fucking enough.

281 I transcribed it for those who can't watch:

Carlson: Do you know anybody who trusts the government anymore?
There's a reason for that.
And by the way, it's not just Democrats you should blame. The vast majority of the Russian collusion investigated happened during the first two years of this administration. Who ran the government then?
At the time, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and every single committee by definition. They had the power to expose this hoax and shut it down, but the did not. Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell and Richard Burr and so many other of the useless Senate Republicans. Total phonies. They didn't really do anything.

(moves to a supercut)
Newsreader 1: Richard Burr is calling Don Trump Jr. back.
Newsreader 2: Richard Burr - who's well-respected - he doesn't want to be lied to. He wants get to the bottom of what happened.
Newsreader 3: Republican Richard Burr had served the President's son with a subpoena.
Newsreader 1: Can you explain why the Republicans would want to do that?
Newsreader 4: Gowdy disputes Trump's "spy" claim

Dan Bongino: I think Gowdy's appearance was disgraceful. According to Gowdy, the FBI ran it by the book, how the Americans wanted them to run the investigation. Really? Give me a break.

Newsreader 5 (to Gowdy) : You said, "I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what Americans would want them to do ..."
Newsreader 6 (to Gowdy) : There was no "spy." Have you seen any evidence of that?
Gowdy (to the press) : I have not. I think you would want the FBI to find out if there was any validity to what those people were saying.

Gowdy (to the press) : I think the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do.
Gowdy (to the press) : The FBI did exactly what we would want them to do.

Gaetz (to the press) : The number one question I get asked by Americans is "why has no one gone to jail and been held accountable?" It was Paul Ryan and Trey Gowdy that wouldn't give us that subpoena power. We didn't send out a single subpoena. Not one.

Graham (to Hannity) : I supported the Mueller investigation because I didn't know.
Hannity: Senator, we're talking about a shredding of constitutional law, due process, that we would ever have.

Graham (in session, to Wray) : So you say that Mueller's "a good guy," right?
Wray: That is my experience, yes.
Graham: And you will do anything necessary to protect him from being, uh, interfered with?"
Wray: Absolutely.

Hannity (to Graham) : Where's Director Wray, though? I've got a lot of people yelling at me, telling me he's not doing his job.

Graham (to the press) : Somebody that every American should trust, Mr. Mueller ...
McConnell (to the press) : Bob Mueller was an ... excellent appointment. He will go wherever the facts lead him. He has great credibility.

Bartiromo (to Graham) : People want you to move on this, Senator. Are you going to do it?
Graham: Yeah, but I told you and I'll tell you again ...

Carlson: Total phonies. They tell you they're representing you, but don't. Explain why they didn't really do anything to stop the derailment of America while it was in progress."

Many will disagree, but @FoxNews is doing nothing to help Republicans, and me, get re-elected on November 3rd. Sure, there are some truly GREAT people on Fox, but you also have some real "garbage" littered all over the network, people like Dummy Juan Williams, Schumerite Chris...

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
....Hahn, Richard Goodstein, Donna Brazile, Niel Cavuto, and many others. They repeat the worst of the Democrat speaking points, and lies. All of the good is totally nullified, and more. Net Result = BAD! CNN & MSDNC are all in for the Do Nothing Democrats! Fox WAS Great!

I have no idea. Grennel was looking good. And it got the Senate off it's ass to actually bother confirming one of Trump's nominees. It makes me worry. Not that Ratcliff is dirty, but that he might be less competent and vicious than Grennel and that this is why the Senate gambled on it.

The NSC has been vastly reduced in size (after Obama grew it 400+%), re-organized, and gotten back to its original purpose. Also, took over daily briefings of POTUS and POTUS candidates from FBI.

Not that there's no work left to do, but Grenell did the big stuff for him and took the heat.

Useless/feckless/corrupt GOP leaders doing nothing to oppose the Deep State plot to depose Trump. Gowdy, McConnell, Graham, Burr, et al. They even went so far as to publicly assure us rubes that the investigation was on the up and up and being done "by the book." Top. Men.

Their bullshit comments have aged very poorly now that we now how Obama, Biden, Hillary, Rice, and others at the top orchestrated the entire shitshow, and that it was carried out by apparatchiks who remained loyal to the outgoing regime as they plotted to destroy Trump.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 21, 2020 02:06 PM (hYcqw)

This whole game has been hilarious to watch, on THIS one Trump really did outsmart McConnell and the Rino's in the Senate. Radcliffe was originally nominated a year ago, I think, but the Senate let Trump know that they weren't going to approve him, since he had no "intelligence experience." In truth, they were scared that Radcliffe was going to do what Grenell has been doing. So, Radcliffe withdrew, and Trump said "Ok, then how do you like this?" and he was able to put Grenell in with no Senate approval at all, because tricky temp assignment rules.

And THEN Grenell started doing everything they were scared Radcliffe would do, and worse! So Trump said "hey, you wanna give Radcliff another look, or you want Grenell for a few more months?" And today we see the results of that.

I know the reason I trust Radcliffe is that in this Congress, he's one of Louie Gohmert's closest personal friends. That's the main reason the Senate hated him so much.

123 There is a difference between Grenell and Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe has already seen the vast majority of items that had been requested by committee (and never received). He knows what is the linchpin better than just about everyone out there. Grenell was very active in the last few weeks, likely because he needed to educate himself on what it was all about prior to that. That's a pretty steep learning curve to overcome. Ratcliffe doesn't have to do that...he KNOWS already.

I predict a much faster release of classified documents...and I predict targeted purpose for each. If Nunes does an interview today, watch is demeanor. If he has that Chestshire Cat look....well, then...popcorn.

159 I just got into an argument with one of my best friends.

She emailed to say, "Can you believe how these protesters are comparing the simple act of being asked to wear a mask as being the equivalent of the HOLOCAUST? I am outraged!"

I asked what she was talking about, and she was referring to some anti-lockdown protest in Michigan where some people held up signs mocking the governor and state government as being fascistic.

Foolishly, I waded in and replied that they weren't protesting against masks per se, but against the government imposed lockdown overall, since it is unconstitutional.

She became miffed. "How is that like the Holocaust? It is an insult to trivialize the Holocaust and at the same time KILL GRANDMA WITH YOUR RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY THEORIES." Those weren't her exact words, but close.

I then made the mistake of noting that liberals have been comparing Trump to Hitler and his supported to Nazis since the day he declared his nomination, 1000x more frequently and vehemently than anything the conservatives ever did, when it came to Nazi comparisons.

160 84 I've liked Grennell ever since his work as a fiery spokesman for Romney's fake presidential campaign of 2012. I was annoyed at the time when Romney fired him, but now I feel like it worked out better this way. He's not beholden to the likes of Romney in any way now.

Maybe Romney fired him because he wasn't "with the program" (e.g., a lily-livered, weak-spined swamp creature)?
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 21, 2020 02:12 PM (hYcqw)

Worse.

Romney fired him because he was gay, and it was bad for Romney's Mormon image if he had a homosexual as a senior staffer.

The first sign that Romney was not the guy for me was when he stood silent while Palin was getting absolutely annihilated over her supposed 'part' in the Giffords shooting. As a man, he should have done the chivalrous thing and defended her honor, even if he didn't agree with her.

The shameful treatment of Grennell was the second sign.

166 There is a difference between Grenell and Ratcliffe.

All they needed was $20.
I brushed them off.

Then the RNC sent me a big, important envelope. It was only for the most trusted Republicans like me. And time was running out. They needed that $20 or else Pelosi was going to win. They were out there fighting and my $20 could make the difference.

I never sent $20.

And that's why they lost the House
That's why they couldn't stop the Democrat lies
That's why the Republicans stopped fighting

There's a reason for that.
And by the way, it's not just Democrats you should blame. The vast majority of the Russian collusion investigated happened during the first two years of this administration. Who ran the government then?
At the time, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and every single committee by definition. They had the power to expose this hoax and shut it down, but the did not. Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell and Richard Burr and so many other of the useless Senate Republicans. Total phonies. They didn't really do anything.

He said right after he fired Comey that he wanted a full investigation of the Russia stuff and he might even extend the investigation which would confuse people but he wanted to get to the bottom of the claims and prove that he did nothing wrong.

______________________

This is a very good article that lays out what the spying on Flynn was about. It's long, but it's worth reading.

https://preview.tinyurl.com/y9mcwhhj

Obama had a hard-on for Flynn because Flynn opposed Obama's stupid Iran deal. The Iran deal was, basically, the U.S. will give Iran billions of dollars in exchange for Iran's promise not to build nukes until Obama is safely out of office. Flynn had been in Afghanistan and he knew first-hand how dangerous the Iranians are and how much they hate Americans and want us dead. He opposed the idiotic Iran deal, and said so in no uncertain terms. Obama couldn't tolerate that.

Flynn also knew the U.S. intelligence community (another reason he was targeted) and had told people that in the Trump administration, he was going to fire the deadwood and clean up all the illegal shit (like domestic spying) that was going on. The IC wouldn't tolerate that.

The real driver of debt is non-discretionary spending, ie entitlements, but cutting the EPA's budget down would have been a whole lot easier if a separate bill got sent to Trump's desk for the place and he vetoed it, forcing a renegotiation in Congress.

Sure, they might have passed it as is through a veto-proof majority, but year after year of that could have led to actual line item cuts on the part of Congress.

Get the GOP to unify and say, "no Omnibus Budget on December 1. ( Or whatever the due date was.). It is September 1, we are passing 11 different spending bills, and will not pass an Omnibus bill period. The Senate better get cracking, and start approving these bills, or revising them and sending them back to the house."

I say that neutrally. The employee gets all kinds of positive

etc. etc.

Maybe, just maybe, all the claims about telecommuting will finally come true.

Maybe - maybe we will also find that the claims are not true.

Sure everyone is working from home now, but our economy has come to a standstill GDP wise.

Short term CRE will take a hit. Long term - who knows.

Work from home flexibility is here to stay - but I think it was already here. It may become a little more mainstream. In the end, you are either essential or not. Employers will get smarter about who is truly essential.

385 The real driver of debt is non-discretionary
spending, ie entitlements, but cutting the EPA's budget down would have
been a whole lot easier if a separate bill got sent to Trump's desk for
the place and he vetoed it, forcing a renegotiation in Congress.

Sure, they might have passed it as is through a veto-proof majority,
but year after year of that could have led to actual line item cuts on
the part of Congress.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, fighting terrorist in Nakatomi Tower at May 21, 2020 02:46 PM (LvTSG)

I think Ryan would have cut entitlements in a heartbeat if he had the chance. But it will never happen because people don't trust the gov't to cut the non-entitlements. They'll slash granny's SSI check, but still give the same SSI benefits to illegals. They'll continue spending on PP, public radio, and everything else that benefits them while gutting Medicare.
