FBI Offered to Pay Christopher Steele "Significantly" To Dig Up Dirt On... Michael Flynn

Update:

Why does Christopher Wray still have a job? Or his physical freedom?

All he does is cover up crimes. Covering up a crime is itself a crime.

Former British spy Christopher Steele peddled an unfounded rumor in December 2016 that Michael Flynn had an extramarital affair with a Russian woman, according to documents released earlier in May.

Months before Steele discussed Flynn, the FBI offered to pay the ex-spy to collect intelligence on Flynn and other Trump associates who were the targets of a counterintelligence investigation.

An FBI source provided information about Flynn that matches what Steele provided the bureau, an FBI memo from early 2017 also said.

Rumors about Flynn and a Russian-British woman, Svetlana Lokhova, began circulating in the media in March 2017.

An FBI offer to pay former British spy Christopher Steele to collect intelligence on Michael Flynn in the weeks before the 2016 election has been one of the more overlooked revelations in a Justice Department inspector general’s report released in December.

The reference to the FBI proposal, which was made in an Oct. 3, 2016, meeting in an unidentified European city, has received virtually no press attention. But it might have new significance following the recent release of government documents that show that Steele peddled an unfounded rumor that Flynn had an extramarital affair with a Russian woman in the United Kingdom.

It is not clear how and when Steele came across the rumor, or if it was the result of the FBI asking him to look into Flynn.

The inspector general's report, released on Dec. 9, 2019, said that FBI agents offered to pay Steele "significantly" to collect intelligence from three separate "buckets" that the bureau was pursuing as part of Crossfire Hurricane, its counterintelligence probe of four Trump campaign associates.

One bucket was "Additional intelligence/reporting on specific, named individuals (such as [Carter Page] or [Flynn]) involved in facilitating the Trump campaign-Russian relationship," the IG report stated.

...

Some FBI agents who attended the meeting questioned whether the lead agent had disclosed too much to Steele about Crossfire Hurricane, according to the IG report.

Remember, Steele was being paid by Clinton and the DNC, and therefore all this classified, confidential, slanderous information the FBI told him went straight into the Hillary Clinton campaign's ears.

No one has been fired yet.

This reminds me of The Joker's observations about everyone being chill about The Plan, even though The Plan is horrifying.

The Plan was that the FBI should commit crimes and then also punish people for non-crimes they falsified and framed-up. The Plan was further that no one at the FBI should ever face criminal -- or even career -- consquences himself.

And no one was bothered at all, because it was all part of The Plan.

Why were they spying on him in October 2016-- before the election, before he was even named incoming NSA head!!

Nearly 4 months before the inauguration, they were spying on Flynn.

How would they know Trump had him on his list-- should he win-- and they needed dirt, on him unless they were spying on Trump directly?

72 "It is not clear how and when Steele came across the rumor, or if it was the result of the FBI asking him to look into Flynn."

Even this doesn't accurately describe what went on. According to the suit filed in the UK by Svetlana Lokhova, this "rumor" was intentionally CREATED by Stefan Halper, who worked (unsuccessfully) to place Flynn and Lokhana in a compromising position.

Stefan Halper has almost certainly been a CIA operative for some time, and it's highly likely that he was acting under the direct orders of CIA Director John Brennan. What's really significant, I think, is that as soon as Halper made his play in the UK, that information was transmitted directly to Christopher Steele, from which it was transmitted back to the FBI. Using that path got around any rules against the FBI using the CIA to spy on American citizens.

Which wouldn't matter it this sort of thing was before a Berman Jackson... but a military tribunal or extrajudicial proceeding would bring all of this to the public record. You betcha.

134 66 So, the FBI went to a foreign source to get Flynn.

Clear intent to violate his Constitutional Rights."

It's even worse than that. Let's be blunt about what happened here. The President, Vice President, and their top advisors went to the CIA and FBI and told them to "get" Flynn. The CIA went to Stefan Halper in the UK to manufacture a scandal. He gave it his best shot, and instantly transmitted that to Christopher Steele, who he know personally from their previous intelligence together. Comey at the FBI already knew it was coming, but he allowed Steele to transmit the story to the FBI so they could claim it was a "Surprise" to them. (John McCain may even have been recruited to carry the documents, just to hook him into the scam) Then the FBI used this "surprise" info to start the Takedown on Flynn, which was meant to lead into the Takedown of Trump.

Meanwhile, in the Mediterranean, Mifsud was attempting to run the same kind of scam on Papadopoulos, for the same reasons, but that one fizzled when Papadop punked them on the $10,000 money laundering scam they tried to set him up for.

168 Part of the problem is that the under 29 generation has raised from infancy to expect zero privacy essentially from birth. From closed circuit cameras everywhere to EZ pass and license identifications all over the roads, to cell phone tracking, to card chips to web browsing history, Google's data panopticaon etc etc etc the very concept of "privacy" has little spiritual or philosophical importance to an alarming number of Americans.

So the basic constitutional prohibitions protecting our privacy, against illegal spying and against and unauthorized/bad faith "investigations" just lacks the string it should have. Far too shrug their shoulders at even the value of privacy, don't "get" why spying is immoral and corrosive to a free society and just ask "what do you have to hide?" and "who's ox is gored (Dem or GOP)"?

I don't know how we can continue as a Constitutional Republic on this basis.

Judge Sullivan is guilty of perjury in the Flynn case. Earlier in the case, Flynn's lawyers asked Judge Sullivan to allow amicus brief's. Sullivan (correctly-at the time) ruled that amicus had no part in federal criminal trials.
Fast forward to last week when Sullivan, apparently angered at the Justice Dept decision to withdraw charges against Flynn, ordered amicus brief's to be allowed in the case against Flynn. Sullivan's logic being that Flynn previously plead guilty and now wants to withdraw that plea, this 180 being the equivalent of perjury.
So, by his own definition of perjury, Judge Sullivan is guilty of the same, doing a 180 on amicus in this case. He is an officer of the court and all statements he makes in the court are under oath. So, if Flynn is a perjurer in this case, by his own rules and definitions, so is Sullivan himself.

Posted by: ShainS at May 21, 2020 01:12 PM (WqPYg)

It's also pretty easy now to see what's been going on with Flynn's trial, which explains what Sullivan has been doing lately. The "Trial" was a complete scam from the start, with Flynn's counsel (Eric Holder's firm), and the Prosecutor, and Judge Sullivan all in on his takedown. (I agree that Flynn was a GREAT fool to ever let himself be coerced into pleading guilty, he should have demanded a trial, damn the consequences) So these 3 conspirators were at first focused on trying to use Flynn to take down Trump - apparently Flynn's plan was to string them along as long as possible. FINALLY, Flynn realized that the Fix was in, and they had gotten wise to him stringing them along, so he got rid of his own, intentionally ineffective counsel, the ones who were working with the DOJ to try to set Flynn up. THEN, Powell started fighting for real, and lo and behold, the corrupt Prosecutor got kicked off the case as well.

Now Sullivan is the only one left out of the original 3 conspirators, but he's arrogant enough to think that he can still keep it going all by himself. Look at what he's done, and you can see that explanation fits his actions in this case better than any other. He is a Dirty Judge, he has ALWAYS been dirty in this case.

250 Atlantic's quality has gone downhill steadily over the decades, and this is a pretty rough time for magazines to begin with. They're old tech, and printing costs have skyrocketed over the last twenty years or so.

Also they're the ones whose readership thought Kevin Williamson was dangerously right-wing.

The buzz on Twitter is that Laurene Powell Jobs bought them a few years ago and has run them into the ground. Maybe the death tax wasn't such a bad idea.

20 years after the Beirut Bombing of the Marine barracks, documents were 'accidentally' declassified showing that we KNEW exactly who in Iran had organized it, and who carried it out.

Would have been really nice for those of us THERE to have had this information.

But the info was squashed because Reagan did not want the American People to get angry enough to make him do something, while he was more worried about the Soviet Union.

I think there are likely few, if any, "good people" because the good people figure out what a corrupt organization it is, and what it takes to succeed (i.e. join in with the corrupt leaders), and leave.

Organizations have a culture. One does not last long in one if they either strongly oppose or cannot adapt to the prevailing culture.

And the FBI has been corrupt for a long time. For example, "straight shooter" law and order guy Mueller was the one who had mob boss Whitey Bulger as a CI, and thus protected him from being prosecuted (even put 4 innocent men in jail for his crimes, IIRC). Then there are the many times the FBI "dropped the ball" on domestic jihadi terrorists, or in the case of the Pamela Gellar assassination attempted, strongly encouraged the ISIS shooters.

Ever wonder how Clinton knew Newt, and Newt's chosen successor, were both having affairs right when they needed something like that?

And that left Dennis Hastert's path to Speaker clear....what a coincidence!

Yup. I can think of only one exception, and that is undercover work. If you're undercover and wearing a wire will get you killed, then recollect and write down - but hold those situations to a higher standard of evidence.

Outside of that narrow condition, though, yes. Record everything. This isn't the pre-1970s world of expensive, unreliable or unattainable audio recording.

Then there are the many times the FBI "dropped the ball" on domestic jihadi terrorists, or in the case of the Pamela Gellar assassination attempted, strongly encouraged the ISIS shooters."

A couple of things prove this:

1. There was a recent report not a single whistleblower had come forward regarding the FBI-led coup attempt.

2. Field agents as well as FBI management gave tips to "journalists" in exchange for concern and sporting events tickets.

That's straight up trash. Burn. It. Down.

One of the big problems at the FBI over the last 15 - 20 years is the personnel changes Mueller made when he was Director. He changed the seniority process and allowed junior people to advance to positions they weren't qualified for which had the secondary effect of encouraging more senior agents out.

Comey continued the policy and so far I haven't seen any indication Wray has changed the policy.

The FBI did reengage with Steele after he was fired using Bruce Ohr as a conduit. That ended in early 2017. When Trump fired Comey, McCabe tried once again engage Steele in mid May 2017 and that was one of the things that led to Mueller.

The McCabe, who had been ignoring this for close to a month (did not want to re-open the Hillary email investigation), is finally nudged into doing something by threats that the NYPD people are considering leaking it to the press, send Strzok down to NYC to pick up the laptop. Comey re-opens the case, magically reviews 90k or so emails in a matter of days, and says "it's all good."

I used to think like this. I don't anymore.

All federal intelligence and LE need to be dissolved. All of it. FBI, Marshals, DHS, CIA - all of it. Replace it all with five new agencies:
- Law enforcement. Small mandate. Interstate crime.
- Foreign intelligence. Long leash, wide mandate.
- Military intelligence. Long leash, wide mandate.
- Domestic intelligence. Short leash - measured in microns. Narrow mandate. No more secret courts.
- Watchmen agency that polices the rest. Rotating cast of employees with zero history in any of the policed agencies and a wide mandate to viciously enforce all protocols against any policed agency. This agency gets a cabinet post.

In the military, 18 years is about where they start looking at you for Colonel/Captain. Flag rank, with institutional authority, is still a ways off. Too many young and inexperienced folks in too many senior positions at FBI. Same can be said for a lot of other orgs...private and fed...in DC. Young, eager to please, inexperienced, and ambitious meritocrats are networking and kissing ass all over the capital, promoted way above their abilities, for very dubious reasons.

For his trouble, Lovinger was stripped of his security clearance which not only made him lose his job at the DOD ONA it also diminished his value in the private sector.

It 'can' become an issue when you are fighting multiple opponents. The constant attacks from different angles makes you stay defensive.

More from Lee Smith's book, via Breitbart:

https://tinyurl.com/y6csm3ew

When General Flynn was coming to the White House, [he] was talking about conducting an audit across the intelligence community," Smith explained. "He recognized the amount of waste [and] the amount of money that had been misspent. He knew what people were doing. He knew that people were hiding these things in different black programs, and he was going to look and start to inspect budgets."

Smith continued, "He was going to get the entire senior intelligence service to hand in their resignations. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean he was going to fire everyone. What it means, though, is he wanted everyone to prove what they were doing, that they were doing their jobs, they were doing good for the country, they weren't wasting money, they weren't wasting time, and they weren't running operations like the one they ran against General Flynn."

Blue State Guvnor Jay Inslee loves his Washington fellow citizens, as long as their names are Gates or Bezos or Schultz or Hanouer.

It's the regular people that own small businesses, or cut hair, or have a family restaurant, that he couldn't give a rat's ass about.

Those around him swirl in Trump hate and infect his mind with that hate. Which is actually easy because Jay hates Trump, too. He can't mention the name of our President in public without grimacing.

And Jay Inslee, drunk with Trump hate fed to him by those billionaires, takes it out on regular Washington citizens.

And scolds us for it when we call him on it. "It's science!" Yet, Jay has YET to take an unplanned question from a reporter. In 3 months now, not a single honest question.

Jay's science has been woefully, historically wrong and false. Yet, he refuses to admit it. Jay never shows his science, will not allow discussion of his science, and never admits his science is terribly, foolishly incorrect.

I have been taught the hard way to despise this evil man, stealing the American way from those he claims to serve.

457 I hate to point out the obvious, but Trump and Barr are in control of this entire process right now and could press charges if they wanted to do so.

461 And I get it.

Punks (esp the London Variety) were known for not being able to play their instruments well, if at all.

I wouldn't want to be lumped in with them from that perspective.

But that iteration of Maiden was PAF.

462 there is a sword fighting tactic where you constantly attack, so your opponent must constantly defend.

So... you're saying he has to buy you dinner and a moie first?

Slut.

Oh wait, that's me. And the movie's optional.

Sorry, never mind, disregard...

Not to sound like Hannity, but I'm sure there's some good people at the FBI.

Good people worried about repercussions if they open their mouths.

JoeF, I would say that good people in positions of responsibility and see corruption, yet keep their mouths closed and don't uncover it, are instead as guilty as Comey or his criminal minions.

Or simply put, the getaway driver and the guy who planned it but stayed behind are just as guilty as the bank robbers themselves.

465 424 I want to know for sure if a Saudi prince was staying in the hotel the night of the Las Vegas shooter. I'd also like to know for sure if there was more than one shooter.

And the FBI has lately decided they don't need to secure anything. They left the embassy open in Bengahzi, same with the San Bernadino shooters home
Posted by: notsothoreau at May 21, 2020 01:55 PM (JKNZq)

Another thing I'd like to know - how come no one secured the shooters house or posted anyone there after the shooting, until a couple days later, AFTER it had been burglarized? And of course no one knows what was taken, because no one in Law Enforcement searched or secured the house until AFTER the "Burglars" had gone through it.

That's 100% my chess technique. I don't have much skill and can't see 10 moves ahead, so it's the only thing that makes me even somewhat competitive against bad players.
Posted by: Moron Robbie

It's actually a good technique. Even though I was once a master-rated player, I myself frequently engaged in it, especially when I couldn't see anything "logical" to do. Unsound attacks will fail against good players, but against players at the same strength as you or weaker, it will keep them off-balance and get into a defensive mindset, and end up making mistakes.

But at the top level, being aggressive when you have no valid basis to attack, will lose you every game. Viktor Korchnoi, the Soviet player who defected to the West in the '70s and who famously played several World Championship matches, was legendary for being able to repulse unsound attacks. In fact, that's how he won nearly every game he won. He himself wouldn't attack, but would sit there and basically invite an attack by you against him. Then he'd basically say, "Oh really? Are you serious?" and he'd blithely take your sacrificed pieces and then calmly dismantle your attack, swatting aside everything you threw at him. he'd beat the best attacking players in the world this way, consistently.

470 If I'm not mistaken, most of them still have their pensions and are freely walking the Earth. That's not justice.

The post said no one had been fired.
That's not true.

Whether them being fired and "keeping their pensions" is "justice" or not, is completely different from "no one has been fired."

I don't know about the others, but in McCabe's case he is only receiving his contributions to the pension (i.e., the money he put in), not his full pension (i.e., the money the feds put in). I bet the others who were fired for cause get the same thing -- their contributions only.
