Good question! Used to be a time you could go to the Senate pool during Christmas and swim buck naked and make a sandwich, not that I did but I heard things, awful things. Senators making sandwiches here, there and in their underwear........strange stuff. But I like to stick my fingers into a few sandwiches now and then, you know, like yaaa and humph and then I am up in there and having a great time!

Oh what am I saying? I think I just made a boom boom in my depends. Mommy! I have to run to stay out of prison.....Mommy! It's warm and wet again!

88 I guess to be expected for what in many ways is now a Third World country, but now even county coroners and health directors fighting back against inflated C-19 death counts.

I remember when, soon after the Soviet collapse, some wag likened the former USSR in its death throes as kind of a Zaire, with nuclear weapons.

Not sure what the catchy metaphor is for today's US. But as I've noted before, now tens of millions of Americans get to experience what it's like to live in highly corrupt, very authoritarian societies without actually having to travel. A diluted version to be sure - and the water and power still work - but a robust introductory taste to be sure.

140 Think some of the SD County casinos at least partially re-opening tomorrow. County board voted today to accelerate return to normal - though of course they didn't advance the national interest by openly and specifically demanding to know the actual public health value of *any* of the remaining restrictions remaining for one hour longer (narrator: there aren't any).

A sole vote not to rock the boat, by someone who just barely missed his calling as a loathsome useless GOP seat warmer - by switch to the other party a few years ago. His fire-side conversion video was beyond the imagination. Picture someone switching from weak corrupt useless cowardly CA GOP to insane racist wildly corrupt authoritarian lawless alien CA Dem - because the GOP was too "extreme".

Met him just as he started his political career. One of the quickest and surest "Instant Judgement: Empty Suit A**hoe" events ever, and that includes junior high and decades in DC. Oh he had his globe & anchor pin on his lapel, so you knew he'd been in the Marines.

224 re 180: I suspect that some of those conservatives turned anti-Trump really believe that it doesn't matter how conservative Trump turns out to be, they really think that Trump's election will inevitably lead to a long period of control by leftists. You know, just like Reagan losing to Clinton in 1992 had nothing to do with H W Bush being the candidate.
You'd think they'd have figured out by now that they were wrong, and I guess that a few have, but I suspect that many just want to be the well-paid house 'conservatives' in the MSM. At least that will buy them some time before that inevitable knock on the door.

I looked up Fokker case the other night. If the D.C Circuit follows its own precedent, it will grant mandamus agin' Sullivan.

In Fokker, the feds charged some outfit called Fokker Services with export control violations. They then entered into some agreement with Fokker where they would do better, and moved to drop criminal charges.

The district judge didn't like it and refused to agree to drop the charges, saying he did think that agreement was enough punishment for Fokker.

the DOJ applied for Mandamus, bitches, with the DC Circuit and they granted it, ordering the judge to drop the case, and producing the Fokker opinion, which you can read about the near plenary power of the Executive to charge and not charge, and drop charges.

The only exception is when the executive is using that power to drop charges in a way to fuck around with the defendant. IOW, the only circumstances in which a judge can refuse to drop charges is *to protect the rights of the defendant* against government abuse.

Save room on the post for Whitmer. She has opened the Upper Peninsula (never should have closed) and the western Lower Peninsula, but not the eastern (although some eastern counties have had ZERO cases since March).

Why?

Oh, because the western LP has Traverse City and other areas where rich people have their 5-bedroom cottages. Memorial Day needs to be open for them, not places like Alpena.

291 Not sure a CA translation of LOLGF is needed quite yet.

WH is bragging about handing out zillions of $$ to WA, CA, and OR public transit systems - often some of the most wasteful and corrupt entities in places bursting with wasteful and corrupt entities.

I'm sure the multi-zillion bailouts will not happen.

But lots of less egregious - but still egregious - ones are already happening. And the economic damage from utterly indefensible "lock-down" restrictions continues to pile up, with nothing from the WH more than the occasional "Re-open America!" sloganeering on the twatters.

To refresh, rank and file FBI agents gave tips to "journalists" in exchange for sporting and concert tickets. It was reported a few weeks ago basically no rank and file agent had come forward as a whistleblower.

Unfortunately, don't expect any reforms unless Congress gets the hell scared out of them. Last Friday, quietly and cuckishly, the Senate voted to reauthorize FISA without actual reforms. It would be like the Politburo disbanding the KGB.

How are you, sweet lady? I have to say, since neutering and turning 15 months, he is a different dog. Loves everyone but he doesn't comprehend his size and mass, so he can be overwhelming. He guards my daughter like Cerberus. No one goes in her room, and if there is noise outside, he runs in, checks on her, then runs out to let the perp know he is large and in charge. 332 NGU, the complete and utter disconnection between common sense, actual knowledge, science, epidemiology - and every policy reco from these people, is breath-taking.

Saving any lives via "lock-downs" outside limited/peculiar situations is not considered likely, and there is zero reason to think any of that happened this time. One reason CDC and WHO officially excluded such measures from standard policy approaches.

333 Thank you kindly for the prayers. A friend on FB posted a video of the water spewing between the bricks of the dam...

Luckily for my parents, who live upstream from another old dam, the drain commissioner had the bright idea of giving a warning and letting more water out. In the past, the people downriver have dictated flooding upstream because they stupidly built businesses too close to the river.

My parents still have water coming in the basement from ground water, but at least they hadn't put their dock in. Lots of them are underwater and not a few boats are either on the docks or gone.

Abner is indeed a lovable monster, who has won over all the neighbors, including the postman's wife, who can't have a dog because her husband can't stand them. Even he thinks Abner is okay. In the dark days when a wiretap meant exactly that, there was never any prohibition or issue with masking or unmasking. The transcripts were closely held and only those with a need to know, well knew.

Between 1914 and 1917 Pres. Wilson had every phone in every German embassy or consulate tapped. Including, the German embassy in Mexico. Not to mention, he let the Germans use the American transatlantic cable so we could routinely read their cable traffic.

438 In 1914, none of the principals in any foreign ministry would use the phone or talk to counterparts over the phone because they assumed all phone lines were tapped.

So, one hundred years later, we've got 3 star generals talking to foreign poo-bahs over the phone without knowing the line is tapped? I don't believe it.

Flynn had to know the conversation was intercepted. Maybe, he was trying to set up a leak trap? Maybe he thought the plan was working when the cheap suits and bad aftershave showed up to ask him about it?

Why plead guilty in the first place? Does he really believe the suits are going to honor a secret agreement to leave his son alone? Does that really make sense? Who threatened him? If he was threatened, why hasn't Sidney Powell put that in her Circuit Court brief?

If he was coerced into pleading, then that is it. Game over. Nothing else matters.

Whole thing does not make sense.

446 So I am by no means knowledgeable on this, but I'm
going to guess its they request everything involving Flynn be unmasked.
I imagine they use some anonymous identifier like "US Citizen #2" to
indicate all the times the foreign "target" spoke with the US citizen
they're not supposed to spy on.

Posted by: buzzion at May 19, 2020 09:38 PM (Z7lwY)

I am under that assumption that working as intended, the communication is available more broadly, with AMERICAN CITIZEN 1, in place of identifiers. Then, based on the content generating sufficient cause to justify the unmasking, because of 4th Amendment protections against spying on Americans, only then, an unmasking request is made, presumably without foreknowledge of who AMERICAN CITIZEN 1 is.

As applied, I am under no illusions that Flynn was ever properly masked, that there was sufficient cause to make an unmasking request, or that it was done for any other purpose that to cross the i's and dot the t's.
No expert disclaimer.

Well actually Wilson didn't need to tap their communication to Mexico. They were using our line to do it. He was an idiot for not listening in to begin with. Bet the English thought he was an idiot on that and were probably relieved when Germany admitted that the telegraph was actually true and they would support Mexico reconquering US land.

467 Wilson had a cadre of spies that worked directly for him through Colonel House. Some were US Govt, some were not.

Wilson never questioned the Z telegram because his people had seen it before. They couldn't decode it; but they had seen it before because it was transmitted from Berlin to Washington, then to Mexico City.

Also a lot of German interests in the US used the American cable for a host of reasons. Much of it sent in the clear. All the traffic went through Western Union (including the Z telegram) who passed it to the White House.

Wilson also had spies at various New York hotels frequently used by Germain agents in the US.

478 The Brits had to make up stories about the Z telegram because they de-coded it. The secret they were trying to hide was that they could read the code.

The Germans knew, assumed, took for granted, we were copying their cable traffic. What they didn't know was that Blinker Hall's team had broken the code.

My point is in the first half of the 20th century, nobody trusted telephones, radios, or cables. It was the codes they trusted.
