Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Bellmawr, NJ Gym Openly Defies Fascist Governor Phil Murphy's Illegal Lockdown; Police Show Up, But Just Issue WarningsThe police seem to know that they're being used as illegal thugs by power-hungry creeps. A gym in southern New Jersey has reopened for business in defiance of a state order that shut down nonessential businesses to help stem the spread of the coronavirus. ... Around 10:30 a.m. Bellmawr police officers approached the door through the crowd to speak with the gym's owners. The officers informed them that they were "formally" in violation of the shutdown order. ... "Formally, you are all in violation of the executive order. On that note, have a good day. Everybody be safe," the officer said before walking away as the crowd erupted in cheers. An attorney representing the gym tells FOX 29's Alex George that they later received a summons for disorderly conduct from Camden County police. New Jersey State Police say the patrons inside the gym were issued warnings. The owners have said the decision to resume operations at the members-only facility was not about financial gain, but rather a question of Constitutional rights. They also say they plan on opening up again on Tuesday. They owner of the gym had previously appeared on Tucker Carlson, vowing that he would defy an unconstitutional edict. "We think so far, this has been just a gross violation of constitutional rights," Smith added. "The 14th Amendment states that no state shall pass any law that infringes upon our rights as citizens, and we’ve been forced into our homes. Enough is enough. "We got to the point where I’ve watched many businesses around me collapse, I’ve watched people lose their jobs and there’s no progress moving forward."Below, a video of a crowd gathered to support the gym's reopening, and the cops retreating after issuing a pro-forma "formal" announcement that the crowd is in defiance of Phil Murphy's decrees.

I'm assuming the cops didn't really have a choice about issuing the summons without starting an unholy war with the Governor's office.
Maybe I'm reading into it, but my take is that the cops are sick of this shit too. I would assume there are number of cop families who have family members who are hair dressers and who own restaurants and, hell, who are personal trainers and so they are seeing first hand just how bad this is. One of the truly surreal scenarios of this scam is seeing cops patrolling for people who aren't social distancing to the satisfaction of the state fascists, while sitting a foot from one another in police vehicles not wearing any PPE of any kind then getting out and harassing and in some cases beating people down.
As has been said, the police are agents of the state and not the people. Perhaps some Police officers are becoming uncomfortable with being the states jackboots. Posted by: Thomas Bender at May 18, 2020 03:45 PM (T+XCu) Posted by: mnw at May 18, 2020 03:45 PM (Cssks) 17

azalea is correct. No science whatsotall behind *any* of the "distancing" stuff. Meaning, apart from the lack of science about the mechanics of distancing (beyond very close/prolonged contact, which has been studied of course for years for ILI transmission), there is no *public health* factor in play that isn't in play every flu season.
With the possible exception of the medically impaired, or elderly. But they can/should make their own calls on things like this. It's really just an increasingly darkly humorous flaunting of scientific and public health illiteracy to have these "partial" "gradual" steps. "Slowing things down until a vaccine" is ridiculous on its face, with additional indefensibility thrown on top when the risk of death is considered by demo. Under 40, this bug is not *even as deadly as flu*. Maybe up to 50, or higher. Didn't think the country as a whole could be shown to be more scientifically illiterate than it already had by the fact that "climate policy" was not a farcical satirical concept. Again, as so often, I was wrong. Posted by: rhomboid at May 18, 2020 04:02 PM (El6T/) 116

12 WTF kinda name is Bellmawr?
Must be some east coast thing. Posted by: Diogenes at May 18, 2020 03:44 PM (axyOa) ********************* 'Mawr' is Welsh for 'big'. So the college town of Bryn Mawr either means 'Big hill' - Bryn meaning hill, obviously - or named after the town in South Wales of Brynmawr, where I lived for 7 years decades ago. Seeing as it seems a lot of Welsh settled around Philadelphia a century or two ago, there's a lot of Welsh or pseudo Welsh place names. It could be that Bellmawr is called that because they just thought a Welsh name sounded cool or its a corruption or abbreviation of a much longer more unpronounceable Welsh name the original settlers gave it. For instance, not far from the original Brynmawr is the village of Bwlch. Go on how would you pronounce that? It's out past Llangynidwr. lol. Pronounced "Bulth" and "cLan-ginn-ee-durr" respectively. The police seem to know that they're being used as illegal thugs by power-hungry creeps.
+++++++++++ They are, and it is obvious. But here's the thing: this is always so, depending on who's in charge. The cops are tools of the state. It is why "cop" exists as a profession. Sometimes they have systemic illegality (such as the unidirectional application of law based exclusively on political alignment like they have in Portland), sometimes not - but they are always tools. What the cops have to decide - and there is no pattern that I have been able to discern - is where the people fit into it. Some cops are all-in on doing as ordered by the state. Some cops are rejecting that in favor of the people. This is happening because the people and the state are at odds. They are in fact at odds so extreme that it is not possible to align with both. You're on the side of the public, or you're on the side of the state. It shouldn't be this way, but it is. As a result, the cops have a fairly unenviable job at the moment. To do their jobs, they have to act in a way that will destroy public confidence and thus their ability to do their jobs without extreme measures and it will also breed vigilantism. If they choose to not go down that road, their agencies will be punished - perhaps even disbanded and replaced - by the state. Unless the state moves back into the public interest, it can be no other way. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at May 18, 2020 04:15 PM (hYcqw) 189

There are specific exceptions in certain cities and counties, but in general the government at every tier and in every domain is now aligned against the citizen. This is manifested in our elected officials and some are certainly better than others, but the problem itself is systemic and there is only so much an elected official can do without going to war with the government he leads. we still can't get a haircut. and NOW we have to wear a mask in public areas. I checked on that and masks are thankfully not mandatory: https://tinyurl.com/y82rb529 So we can disobey this ridiculous order. The wording of the order fits my theory about WA state. If we stand up to them they back down. They know their orders are unconstitutional but are relying on fear to keep us under control. BTW, I am a lifelong WA state resident. Yes the conservative parts of the state get dragged down with the rest. Vote by mail isn't helping us. I have been feeling somewhat encouraged though. so after much searching I found the CO emergency powers act: excerpt
The state of disaster emergency shall continue until the governor finds that the threat of danger has passed or that the disaster has been dealt with to the extent that emergency conditions no longer exist. The governor terminates the state of disaster emergency by executive order or proclamation, but no state of disaster emergency may continue for longer than thirty days unless renewed by the governor. The general assembly, by joint resolution, may terminate a state of disaster emergency at any time. SO- the 'emergency' lasts as long as the governor says it lasts- unless the state legislature gets up on its hind legs and says STOP and that won't happen here in progressive Colorado Posted by: DB- just DB. at May 18, 2020 04:49 PM (iTXRQ) 377
