It's really fun to play with horses and trains in the Red Dead Redemption games.

There's a trophy you can get if you hog tie someone, leave them on the tracks, and wait until the train comes and runs them over.

56 This is kind of a bland painting with the slight variation of colors used throughout except for the sign post and rails. While the drawing is clear (that's something, and the perspective is okay, it seems Colville is more concerned with a message than the actual scene. Old vs. new? The passing of traditional values? The foolishness of older matters against progress? The value of the individual (horse) versus the mechanical?

Given my mood these days, I'm cheering for the horse.

76 Ok, this painting reminds me of something I was involved in years ago, and it wasn't pretty. When I did oilfield work, the crew I managed would all drive out together to the well we were about to work on for the next day or two, and we'd drive multiple vehicles, whatever we needed for that job. One morning at about 4:30 AM, my guy in front of me was driving a Crane Truck (basically the front end of a semi, back half a big flatbed with a crane on it), and he came around a corner in the woods near Carthage, and suddenly there was a big Horse running right down the middle of the highway, straight at him.

BOOM. That truck looked like it had been hit by a torpedo! If I'd been in front, or any car had hit it, the driver would have been killed, but since the crane truck's cab was elevated off the ground, the torpedo went through the truck body underneath him.

I was thinking of more of the extremely nasty details, but now I think it's better just to stop there. Except to say that the horse wasn't just "hit" by the truck - at the point of contact, that poor horse basically exploded.

It should also be noted that horses can run in a three beat cadence.... call cantering. Galloping is a four beat cadence. Think all out sprint.

I can't believe Dershowitz said that. Infuriating. If a majority of people in our "democracy" -- for public health reasons -- decided it was necessary to exterminate all people named Dershowitz (or lets say all people suspected of being Jews or something), then I suppose Mr. Dershowitz would find no Constitutional protection or problem with that?

549 I'm a desert person. I love the heat, I love the starkness of the land. It really doesn't look like a place that any human could live on, but it's got lots of beauty in it.

I would love to live in the desert, as long as I could find a job that would pay enough to live on, and it was in a place where the government wasn't insane.

Less greenery means less pollen. Fucking plant bukkake.

The Aerospace museum, tucked away in a little
corner of Alamogordo, is really fascinating, worth the visit. Remember
that picture of the Rocket Sled, with the test pilots face being blown
back? That Rocket Sled is still there, along with a whole lot of
things they tested out at White Sands.

552 riskb223. Smaller number of people to check and control There are close to 300 residents in mom's building. Would be cumbersome to check and control that many people coming in and out. Easier to check staff and send them home if they have issues. Whatever they are doing has worked. Zero WuFlu infections in her place. OH has some counties with 40% and higher deaths in long term care. Zero deaths in Montgomery county last I looked.

Didn't Arby's announce they were not going to advertise with Limbaugh? back in then day when the dumb bint from Georgetown complained she couldn't afford her expensive birth control and that's why she need TehOneCare.

Except Arby's hasn't advertised with Limbaugh. So they had a fake boycott. My boycott of them is quite real.

556 Last time I drove the six hundred miles up to Iowa I programmed the GPS to avoid interstates. I got there half an hour earlier than I usually do and the trip was a lot more fun.

State highway departments have done a good job of expanding well-traveled highways into four lanes. They seem to be trying to keep stops to a minimum and most of the time you can find a "regular" highway that goes straighter to your destination than the interstate. Never mind that most every town has a filling station and you don't have to go thirty miles wiggling in your seat until the next rest area.

I spent a lot of weeks there ~2017.

560 That picture makes me think there's going to be a math question. "A train travelling east at 75 miles per hour and a horse travelling west at 5 miles per hour . . . ."

There should never be math on an art thread.

I've always felt that - people who've never been on the desert have no clue how beautiful it can be, or how after the rare rains, it's covered with that sweet, sweet smell of the acacia trees, or how in the morning just before the sun rises, you can be hit with a cold breeze that's quickly wiped away with the first light of day. There's a reason that for millennia, those seeking God have gone out into the desert to sit and contemplate.
