Makes sure the interest is real before investing in equipment. Offset printers, linen paper suppliers, mag-stripe insertion tools, etc. are all very expensive - and don't even get me started on the hybrid art+industrial education and tooling required to make plates.

It is definitely worth it to make sure the interest has staying power before making that kind of outlay.

179 Wiki is unreliable.

Repin was born in the Ukraine in 1844, and died in 1930. Since I always cock an eyebrow at any artist who died during the Stalinist era (or any of the Soviet eras, to be honest) I looked up his wikipedia page to see whether he had fallen afoul of someone.

The wiki entry is interesting. Repin 'welcomed' the Russian Revolution of February 1917, but was 'rather skeptical of the October Revolution.' Imagine that: someone being skeptical of the Bolsheviks.

So, I looked up where he died. The wiki entry says he died in Repino, which is a part of St Petersburg (according to wiki.) However, another part of the same wiki article said he died in Finland, and the Soviets had asked him several times to move back. He never did.

So, the town Repin actually died in was called Kuokkala, Finland when he died. The town was annexed by the Soviets after the Winter War in 39-40 and then renamed Repino in '48 in his honor- which it seems likely he would not have wanted given the cost.

I just find that kind of funny. According to one wiki entry he died in Repino, a part of St Petersburg, when in reality, he died in Kuokkala, which was Finland at the time.

UBI will be a short lived, dismal failure of a social experiment.
It will either end in poverty as the makers are plundered to feed the
takers and thus stop bothering to go to all the effort, or it will end
in Zimbabwe style hyperinflation as new monry is continuously "printed"
regardless of the amount of wealth in the system.

Well, UBI will increase the divide between the rich and the poor, as well as eliminate the pesky middle class. It will also make the majority of the US dependent; as for the makers, a very few will be allowed to succeed.

Also... we already have a form of UBI: welfare and, to some extent, unemployment. I know people who have collected the later every year since 1980. They have no problem working once and a while so they don't have to work 9 months out of the year. And the government is happy to keep them in that situation.

That all being said, it will go full speed ahead, especially if Slow Joe is elected.

221 China is on the move and stepping up intel and military operations. They believe the coronavirus has sufficiently weakened the US- to the point they can make these moves. Anywhere the CCP has made an investment with a sovereign nation, they have also made substantial inroads with spying, surveillance and asymmetric ops. Africa is now well blanketed as is South America. Propaganda, cyber ops, Spying, influence ops and other activities in the US are at their highest points ever.

People need to wake up and realize there is a war going on with China. The exact origin (deliberate or not) of this virus MY be questioned, but not Chinese intent. Once it was out they created a deliberate strategy to help it reach the US by avoiding certain travel bans. They've been conducting misinformation campaign designed to divide, confuse, create anxiety and frustrate any effective response. Any state stoking fear or creating de facto marshal law is playing right into the Chinese strategy and undermining our country.

People need to wake up to the real enemy. It's China, not some virus.

I just find that kind of funny. According to one wiki entry he died in Repino, a part of St Petersburg, when in reality, he died in Kuokkala, which was Finland at the time.

The sheep have been lobotomized by the panic-screaming press, and
they are scared to really do open-up things like go to fashion retail,

I know people in MI that are happy to be under lockdown permanently. There are also those that also believe that if you're scared to go to work, you should not have to go to work. Ever. Because if you break the quarantine, YOU. WILL. DIE.

Ah, question answered. I guess since it's all theater they're only forcing the residents to buy tickets to the lockdown show and they're not screwing with the Interstates.

I'm curios because son #1 - Texan, married a girl from Michigan a couple years ago. Now they're talking about moving up there to support her out of work (isn't everyone?) mother because he can work from anywhere. So I had to wonder how much hassle it was going to be for me to go visit the grand kid in one of the asshole states. Interestingly, her mother came down a couple weeks ago, and the DPS here in Texas wanted to know why she hadn't gotten back on her plane for the appointed flight.

These assholes are determined to make all of us 'care' what happens in the asshole states.

You might be able to turn away some wrath and keep it. Wait until she's bored off her ass, then go "Hey, I got a new RC car, want to play with me and my buds?"

If she's bored enough, the excuse to get out of the house will temporarily derail "how much did this cost?", and if she has fun with it, the equation in her mind changes from "total waste" to "expensive fun", which is at least more favorable.

No wine at Communion. The Host to be dropped in your hand. If the priest touches your hand, you must both stop, drop and roll and be completely sanitized. Each church to be completely sterilized after each Mass.

Social distancing, skipping pews, only so many in each Mass, etc.The more I contemplate this, the more irate I get that our faith leaders subjugated themselves to the state. I fear this only sets precedent and we will regret it at some point.

I guarantee you that the fuckers who see how easy it is to get the Church to drop to her knees and fellate the State are preparing to yank her tax-exempt status.

423 Obamagate is fairly complicated and might not break through the collective sub-normal IQ, especially of women.

They're going to have to simplify it.

"Obama ran a spy state and a secret police."

He spied on political rivals, political competitors, congress and journalists. I don't care if he spied on foreigners. He likely spied on Hillary and Biden as well.

I never understood why he added his last name onto his stage name.

You didn't see Billy Idol become Billy Idol Farnsworth or Boy George become Boy George Tallywhacker.

And now, everybody, here's Iggy Pop Ratskiwatski!

427 If it takes so much work to make it edible, why
bother? I hold the same opinion of putting lemon/lime/orange slices on
glasses of beer. If you need fruit to make it taste good (Corona, for
example), then why?

Only if you worship it.

It might be a giant space otter, per other suggestions, or a tentacle monster that for some reason hasn't gone to Japan.

I'm not feeling the need to cult up for either.

So apparently 10 more counties in WA get to apply to enter Phase 2 "early." We are already supposed to go to Phase 2 statewide on June 1, which is a week and a half away. So what's the point?

They are calling them "variances." Variances from what? You are going from one arbitrary condition to another arbitrary condition.

It's gaslighting and half-witted fuckery designed to make you pretend they have the authority to continue deprivations of liberty in the face of no actual, exigent state of emergency.

Open this bitch up.

I can grind my own chuck for $4/lb. Add a bit of butter and salt to the grind and make fantastic burgers in about 25% of the time.

Wow. That's an unexpected reality. On the bright side, I just gassed up for $1.70/gal. Strange times.
