In Alberta, Canada, Cops Draw Shotguns On Woman Dressed as Stormtrooper to Advertise Star Wars-Themed Restaurant
CALGARY -- An employee at a Star Wars-themed restaurant had a memorable May the Fourth, after her costumed celebration and replica weapon drew the attention of police and ended with her nose bloodied. Now, the chief of police is calling for an investigation into the actions of the responding officers after video of the arrest surfaced. While dressed as a stormtrooper, Ashley, 19, went into the parking lot of the Coco Vanilla Galactic Cantina in Lethbridge at the direction of her manager. She danced with blaster in hand on May the Fourth -- the day fans celebrate the film franchise as a play on the iconic "May the force be with you" line. Lethbridge Police Service arrived with guns drawn and the stormtrooper dropped the plastic toy to the ground.

JJ - I'm with you on that one. I wasn't a fan of Return of the Jedi, but whatever residual good feelings I had of the franchise died with Binks and Watto.
That being said, my son and I saw the last episode of Clone Wars last night. Clone Wars was awesome, and the last two episodes were sublime. Ahsoka Tano was the opposite of a Mary Sue character. Big fan.

My wife was at a thrift shop a few years back. Had a refillable water bottle in the car and took a long pull before going inside to browse. The idiot sales clerk called the local PD on her for suspicion of drinking in public. At 11 am. Two fucking squad cars. Full drunk test - eye exam, walk the line, BREATHALYZER. Wife was in tears. Two hours later and 4 phone calls I got far enough up the command chain to begin getting some apology and answers. My assessment - When you have a tool you are going to use it. These cops were bored and needed an excuse to stretch their legs and go play with their toys.
Cops are going to fall into two groups in the burning times - patriots and America-hating power trippers. It will be that simple.

AS to military vehicles...they're maintenance pigs and hangar queens. Take out the maintenance and log train for them and they go away in about six weeks. Or, just fill the differentials with sand and pea gravel. next ride out it'll seize. Or, start putting water in the fuel supply.
Those engines are sensitive. Plus...the driver has to take a piss at some point or another.

That's started in fits and starts (the first part, anyway).
It is straight out of Solzhenitsyn, and a tactic he recommended. Most people thing to go after leadership. His position is that leadership is basically untouchable by the masses. They can be destroyed by the Party, but not by the proles. Individual cops, though, are the appropriate target the leadership is untouchable because if there is no one willing to do their bidding, it doesn't matter how much paper power they have. This is more or less his recommended strategy - to go after the beat cop who misbehaves rather than the chief who's running a corrupt department. You can't touch the chief, but you can make the misbehaving cop quit.

Uh, let's not cavalierly talk about deploying the National Guard for law enforcement matters. Law enforcement and military do have a lot of overlap, so they're going to share a lot of gear. MRAPs may not be the ideal example, but there's a good reason the military gives them away.
MRAPs are great vehicles for counter-insurgency missions, which is why we bought a shit-ton of them, but they aren't so good for a conventional war against a formal, well-equipped nation, so the Army doesn't want to keep and maintain them, but wants them available if they're needed again for another counter-insurgency missions. Local law enforcement gets them for very little, and in exchange may have to give them up to the Army if needed. Free maintenance, limited use...a great deal for the army.
Let's not forget Die Hard. They NEEDED that armored car!

It's so much more than this with law enforcement. Conservatives somehow can't bring themselves to admit that "power corrupts" applies to law enforcement as much as anyone else, and the modern state has given them enormous power. The reach of the law, and the discretionary authority that law enforcement officers have is vast. Add in the para-militarization of police forces, the us-against-the-civilians attitude that is all too common, and a culture in which even the ostensibly good ones won't report on the bad ones, and what you have is a timebomb. Or rather innumerable little timebombs.

Yeah, and why anyone thinks the National Guard is the right idea for a high risk situation clearly hasn't seen "First Blood". The NG are reserve soldiers who train once a month, usually on some mundane bullshit task the Army requires. They are not trained in things like, barricaded suspects, high risk warrant service, or really important things like the Fourth Amendment. PDs have SWAT teams because we have lots of violent people in this country. Do many poorly trained and dumb cops overstep? Yes, for sure. But involving the National Guard would be a peerless disaster.

When my wife was in college, she got pulled over by some cop on a power trip. He told her he smelled alcohol. The car was full of nice Mormon girls who never had alcohol in their life. He pulls her out of the car in 30 degree weather and won't let her get her coat. He goes back to his car for ten minutes with her freezing her ass off. After ten minutes, he comes back and barks at her for having her hands in her pockets. Then he administers a breathalizer. He makes a big deal of showing her the numbers say 0.0 beforehand. She blows a 0.0. He acts like he's doing her a favor by not pulling everyone out of the car and insists he smelled alcohol and tells her to get out of there.

That's started in fits and starts (the first part, anyway).
It is straight out of Solzhenitsyn, and a tactic he recommended. Most people thing to go after leadership. His position is that leadership is basically untouchable by the masses. They can be destroyed by the Party, but not by the proles. Individual cops, though, are the appropriate target the leadership is untouchable because if there is no one willing to do their bidding, it doesn't matter how much paper power they have. This is more or less his recommended strategy - to go after the beat cop who misbehaves rather than the chief who's running a corrupt department. You can't touch the chief, but you can make the misbehaving cop quit.

I've sent that link around a bit this week. Since the lockdowns are clearly unconstitutional, those enforcing them are not backed by any legitimate law. So, if for example they attempt to make an arrest over social distancing edicts, they are in fact kidnapping you.

He failed roadside. (duh)
blew .06 first cop
blew .05 second cop
blew .06 third cop
They then took him down to the station and he blw .03
Then the standard was .1
And then would not take him back to his car.
All because they were sure a 20 something punk had to be drunk. In reality he was ill with a incurable disease.

Sadly many other franchises are going this way. I used to use McDonald's as my go to for long trips as they where consistent.
Not good not bad but edible and had clean rest rooms. But even they have gone off the rails.
I had never scene a bad McDonald's or one go out of business in my first 25 years of driving. Now I have seen both more then a few times.

Whoppers used to taste good because they were grilled to order.
Now, BK grills up a bunch of them at once, and puts them into warming trays. The management thinks this saves a bit of time and is more efficient.
Parhaps, but the burgers now taste leathery and bland. They have lost that fresh-cooked taste.
And what I have seen locally and regionally anyway, is that some BK locations have closed down in the last 5 years or so, many more than other chains.
It's like when your product doesn't taste as good, customers will go elsewhere.

The RCMP kicked the doors in on houses unaffected by the floods and seized guns.
They knew which doors to kick in because the data from the Canadian Gun Registry that was supposed to have been destroyed was not destroyed.
