The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

Donald Trump voted by mail in 2020. He believes that it was okay for him. He believes that it is safe for him. He believes that it was allowable. And yet he refuses to allow the same to others.

…You are more likely to be struck by lightning than for there to be an incident of voting fraud. That’s because most people aren’t trying to vote twice or three times. They’re trying to vote once. Stacy Abrams

Quote II

"It's bad policy and it's irresponsible. The motion was made to just basically rescind the protections we've taken more than a month ago and open up those floodgates. Not only does it send the wrong message, it's just the wrong thing to do at this time I think," Beverly Hills Councilmember John Mirisch

Quote III

“With all due respect, you aren’t our ‘forever First Lady.’ No one is, nor should anyone be. Pump your brakes a tad.”James Woods

Quote IV

“Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts.”Richard Feynman

If the damn Nazis ever let you out of your house and are attending a MoMe, This might be the article for you. How to plan a cross country road trip.

Jumping in the car and heading across the country is a dream many Americans have, immortalized in books and films, the road trip is more than a trip from one point to another, it is a journey of self-discovery, a rite of passage, and can change the way you think about other parts of the country.

But while the media may romanticize the idea, the reality budgeting and planning for your own adventure can be a daunting task. Having crisscrossed the country several times, by car, motorcycle, and RV, here are my top tips for planning the perfect road trip.

Will this make me drink moar water? This falls into the category of The ONT Is Always Looking Out For You.TM

As an ingenious design that means you'll never have to choose between the two again.

How often have you looked at your reusable water bottle and your insulated coffee mug and had to choose between them? You may have wanted both, but knew you didn't have the space to carry them all day long. This is a familiar problem for many of us who strive to reduce our waste footprints. There's only so much we can fit into purses and backpacks, which means that one often gets left behind.

This could soon change, thanks to a clever new product called Hitch. Designed by two entrepreneurs from Santa Barbara, California, Hitch is a full-size, 18-ounce insulated water bottle with a 12-ounce coffee cup tucked inside the bottom. You turn a crossbar on the bottom of the bottle to release the cup. Once filled, a lid stashed at the top of the water bottle can be used to seal up the coffee cup. Even more ingeniously, the full cup can attach securely to the top of the water bottle, freeing up one hand if needed.

Never to early to go shopping, is it Mrs. Mis. Hum?

We really have become a Nanny State.

Warmer temperatures drew lockdown-weary Americans from coast to coast out of doors over the weekend.

But many came face to face with the disturbing intervention of local governments as helicopters patrolled beaches in California and New York City police issued summonses and made arrests over coronavirus social-distancing violations in area parks.

The Twitterverse, good for constitutional law analysis and now identity experts.

State-run media on Saturday said that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared in public for the first time in 20 days after rampant speculation surrounding his health and whereabouts.

Per CNN, the Korean Central News Agency is reporting Kim attended a ceremony at a brand new fertilizer factory near Pyongyang. Senior officials, including his sister and likely successor, Kim Yo Jong, were also in attendance.

Photos and video footage of Kim at the ceremony were published by the Rodong Sinmun newspaper and the North Korean Central Television. In the footage, Kim can be seen walking, smiling, laughing, waving to crowds, and smoking. Kim and senior officials appear to be the only ones not wearing face masks at the ceremony.

Who is Brad Birkenfeld? He's a whistleblower who was handsomely rewarded.

Now we’re going to catch up with a man who may be one of the world’s most intriguing whistleblowers, he’s definitely one of the richest. He’s Brad Birkenfeld, the one-time Swiss banker who turned evidence against U.S. tax evaders only to find the U.S. Justice Department targeting him. Today, his Unfinished business.

Sharyl: Brad Birkenfeld was a manager at Switzerland's largest bank, UBS.

Brad Birkenfeld: I managed offshore money for wealthy clients. Minimum account size was a million dollars and the sky was the limit.

Sharyl: In 2007, Birkenfeld became one of the first bankers ever to break open legendary Swiss bank secrecy. Exposing one of the longest and largest tax frauds in the world: 19,000 illegal offshore accounts with $20 billion in assets managed through the UBS American desk.

There is one industry that isn't doing well under the Kung flu hysteria. The world's smallest violins are playing for the wind and solar industries.

The only good news about the COVID-19 social change impacts on our lifestyles is that the travel bans, and lockdowns have cleaned the globe flushing the murk from Venice’s canals and we have seen cleaner air worldwide.

Seeking to cash in on America’s response to the coronavirus crisis its wind and solar power outfits tried to snare $billions out of the Trump administration’s $2 trillion coronavirus aid package. But to no avail. Congress is likely to continue to focus on injection of broad economic aid to workers and small businesses. The massive and endless subsidies for wind and solar electricity are likely to be put off until later legislation.

Far from being “essential”, heavily subsidized, and chaotically intermittent wind and solar, and the fleeting jobs those industries create, are starting to look like wasteful luxuries that mega economies like that in Germany, Australia, and America can ill afford.

Something has to be done about social media giant Twitter. Their behavior is bullshit.

On Saturday, Twitter suspended Candace Owens for encouraging Michiganders to return to work, regardless of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.)’s decrees. Social media companies have partnered with local governments to support coronavirus restrictions. Whitmer, however, issued a new declaration of emergency this week after the Michigan legislature refused to extend her previous emergency declaration. The declaration is the basis for her stay-at-home orders.

Granny and Gramps are using pot more now than ever. What's up with that?

Teenagers have consumed marijuana less and less in legal states. Instead, baby boomers have taken their place. As BDS Analytics noted in a consumer report last year, baby boomers have become an “important and growing segment” of cannabis consumers. In other words, more adults are using marijuana more than ever. A February study showed marijuana use among adults ages 65 and over had risen 75% in the past three years.

Neither analysis explained why older consumers were using more marijuana. But a brand new study published in The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatric may provide answers. University of California, San Diego researchers compiled self-administered data from 568 patients who visited the university’s geriatric clinic over 12 weeks. Questions included if, why, and how seniors used cannabis, what kinds of marijuana they used (CBD or THC?), lifetime use, and how it helped treat symptoms.

You won’t be surprised that older adults choose cannabis for medicinal reasons over recreation. The most common medical reasons included pain, sleep, and anxiety. Researchers were keen to understand why older adults turned to marijuana for anxiety.

Those of you who live in states where the mosquito is the state bird won't be too happy about this. Or will you? Hybrid mosquitoes.

The EPA on Friday granted permission for genetically engineered mosquitoes to be released into the Florida Keys and around Houston to see if they can help limit the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.

British biotech company Oxitec Ltd was granted an experimental use permit to release a genetically engineered type of the mosquito species Aedes aegypti, which is a known vector of Zika virus and viruses that cause yellow fever and dengue fever, the Environmental Protection Agency office of Chemical Safety and Pollution announced.

Oxitec must get state and local approval before it can start field testing. But if granted, testing will take place over a two-year period in Monroe County, Fla., starting this summer, and in Harris County, Texas, beginning in 2021.

What the parents of today need are more freaking traveling circuses.

He does not care who takes care of his children -- a freaking traveling circus will do -- just so long as it is not him.

Mystal also wrote, "I live in the future and have subscriptions to approximately 18,000 streaming services."

So those are his priorities. He wants to stream entertainment and shove his kids off on a freaking traveling circus. Perhaps cutting back on streaming subscriptions would free up money to take care of his children.

Here is how affordable child care worked in the Surber household in the 1990s. I worked first shift, my wife worked second.

That is what the Child Care Fairy gives a parent, a partner. Not every mother has a handy-dandy father to help, likewise not every father has a mother to rely on. But for most people, that is how it works. For a brief period in the 20th century, most middle class women got to stay home with the kids.

Too much valu-rite? There may be a cure. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day

A plant extract combination of fruits, leaves, and roots may help to relieve hangover symptoms, reveals an intriguing new study published online this week.

Furthermore, the common wisdom about what causes hangovers may be wrong. The study’s findings indicate that dehydration and the associated loss of electrolytes—electrically charged minerals in the body that help balance water content and acid levels—may not be largely responsible for all the common hangover symptoms.

43 I was surprised by the road trip article and only do some of those things on my semi-frequent cross-country trips. They're right about hotels, for sure.

But that is definitely targeted at leisure trips. I rarely take those, at least not in the pure form. When I take the long drive, I have a destination in mind and am usually focused on pounding through as efficiently as possible - and this includes timing stops. I have found that 3-3.5 hours is a very good match. If I'm alone, then 4 is fine. With a crowd, aim for three because nobody's bladders will synchronize well.

I have found knowing that fuel economy and planning gas stops vs. pee stops vs. food stops is way more effective for time budgeting than various other factors.

64 How are either Barry or Mike "more accomplished" than Trump or Melania?

I know I'm biased, but I am trying to be objective here. Obama is probably not smarter, and is certainly not quicker on his feet than Trump. Obama's career was started early while in college under the tutelage of various communist radicals, and his steps along the way were planned and enabled by the left wing of the activist party branch. He certainly didn't "make it on his own."

Trump, by contrast, was born into a wealthy family and inherited millions of dollars. Millions he converted into more than billion through being a real estate titan. Then he became president - but after also being a TV star.

Melania is pretty and Michelle is not. Beauty is in the eye, I suppose. But Melania is multi-lingual and, unlike Michelle, worked for a living. Being a model might be nice work, but at least she had a real job.

87 I am thinking of submitting this to Slate's advice column. Think I should?

I'm a Vegan. Can I ethically use transportation?

{Slate advice columnist name},
I am a committed vegan. Everything from clothes to soap to dishes and of course food is animal-free if it comes into my home.

But what about transportation? Cars (and buses and trains and airplanes) are full of plastics, adhesives, lubricants, seals and other products that are often animal-derived. Even bicycles usually have plastics, foams and adhesives that contain some animal products.

Between my veganism and my desire to reduce to my environmental impact, I am experiencing something of a crisis of conscience over this question. Can I use transportation (other than my own legs, of course) while still being an eco-conscious ethical vegan?

Designed by two entrepreneurs from Santa Barbara, California, Hitch is a
full-size, 18-ounce insulated water bottle with a 12-ounce coffee cup
tucked inside the bottom. You turn a crossbar on the bottom of the
bottle to release the cup. Once filled, a lid stashed at the top of the
water bottle can be used to seal up the coffee cup. Even more
ingeniously, the full cup can attach securely to the top of the water
bottle, freeing up one hand if needed........
Geebus..
Have your coffee in your insulated container.. then, when you're done, fill it with ice water.

I liked bluesy-experimental early Tull. Then they got big and took a turn for the warts. I read that Ian said they did the early albums to make a name, make a buck, so they could do what they really wanted - something like that.

Don't mind if a band goes a direction I don't care for, but I do mind feeling jerked around.

183 I've done long solo road trips by motorcycle, and my advice here is about your daily timing.

Get to bed at 8 pm each night, but shower and pack up before getting into bed. The object is to be able to get up at 4 am and out the door and on the bike, moving, by 4:10, 4:15 latest.

Those couple hours of pre-dawn dark are a beautiful time to get in your first hundred or more hours of the day, and the sunrise is always glorious.

Quit riding no later than 3 pm each day, when you have found the perfect motorcyclists motel. Ground level, your bike parked right outside your door, walk to a bar, a restaurant, maybe a place with music.

And chat up everybody you encounter.

One of my favorite rides was to track Louis and Clark from St Louis to Astoria, WA as close as highways would allow. Sacajawea showed them the pass up over the Bitteroots, south of Missoula, the Lolo pass.

When you crest the pass, you see the Welcome to Idaho sign, and the sign cautions you that there are 112 miles ahead of constant curves.

Some brook way up high is what the road follows, and the brook turns into the Lochsa, which turns into the Clearwater, which flows into the Snake, which flows into the Columbia.

Lewis and Clark damn near starved descending from the Lolo. It was late winter and they would not eat fish.

currently counting deaths from the coronavirus-has ranged from 3,448 to
15,620, which far lower than the numbers commonly repeated by public
officials and even public health experts.

---

That's some bullshit right there.

The author is complaining about comparing the nearly 70k number of covid deaths reported by sites like worldmeters and usually publicly used (such as Trump's statements) which is the maximum of "we'll bribe you to count anything you can get away with" to the rough estimates of seasonal flu also publicly used. He makes no mention of the smaller numbers recently discussed with respect to covid of 37k or 11k when he insists on going to pure counts of flu deaths just to make the kung flu seem more impressive.Even if the point he deceptively made was accurate (that kung flu is some integral multiple of the regular flu), it still was far too weak to justify the actions taken, and still underway to "mitigate" it.

269 Get fucked, Tank. We both know damn well that this isn't the objection. No, most people won't try to vote multiple times.

In the past 25 years, I have lived at five different addresses. I know that one address I lived at 25 years ago still receives the voter registration card in my name.

Big Tech knows where I live today and knows that there are four other voter registrations cards out there that I will not claim. It is nothing for them to collude with DNC operatives to give them this information and then look the other way while operatives fill out the votes and mail them in.

Then, of course, Big Tech knows which postal codes are well represented by people who would vote for Trump and this passed along to the government unions may result in mail getting lost during pick-up.

And I don't get a receipt like I would when voting in person.

Fraud By Mail is real. And it will cancel out any meaningful understanding of voting.

If throwing the globe into a full throated depression is fair game, mass desecration of the vote is a given.

Still weird to see how much is still Ghost Town, even with limits lifting. Not one car at the Arby's!

And folks were out walking, in the park, walking dogs, fishing. You'd never know we just managed to dodge viral SMOD.

It definitely refers to pipe organs, the phrase has been around much much longer than Airplanes have.

my guess would be that it got popularized when it was common for Wurlitzer organs to play the accompaniment for silent films. The organist would pull out all the stops for the big scenes, to make a really big sound.

But he had a great one too about hanging out with the man who wrote Mr Bojangles... I am slowly working my way through his stories.

https://tinyurl.com/ybpgpwjx

As someone who has a tendency to over indulge, on occasion, I really appreciated Sniders story.

Apologies if it was here, among the horde, that I discovered Snider.

426 It definitely refers to pipe organs, the phrase has been around much much longer than Airplanes have.

my guess would be that it got popularized when it was common for Wurlitzer organs to play the accompaniment for silent films. The organist would pull out all the stops for the big scenes, to make a really big sound.

I just got home from a supermarket where they gave me a receipt with a place to go fill out an online satisfaction survey so I can get a 5% discount the next time I shop there (I do it this ~every 30 days, the minimum allowable interval).

I flailed on them in the survey. Visit was Mostly Dissatisfactory. Yes, I found everything I wanted, prices were reasonable, store was clean blah blah but my experience checkout out was Highly Dissatisfactory because I had to stand at a ridiculous distance from other customers. My shopping experience was Bad because I had to wear a mask.

I told them yeah, I get it, your're a big corporation, you've got to take the path of least resistance, but I fantasize about a company that expresses as much skepticism as millions of citizens do.

My lone voice. I'll still get the 5% discount next time, which I hope isn't for a while.

Chock: a block that keeps a wheel from rolling

Chalk: An aircraft number used to designate which aircraft a troop loads onto (airdrop or air assault). It is not the tail number of the aircraft. Too many digits.

Stick: A group of paratroopers that will jump during one pass over a drop zone. If all of them can jump in one pass, then "stick" is not used.

First the whole "the election is safe" for 2 weeks and then the night before "No its not!" And when the court didn't give him his way he had his hack witchdoctor cancel it for health safety.

Second he arbitrary date of June 2 that he didn't have the authority to do so. Legislature made it April 28 but it caused so much confusion.

Third "Masks don't work so don't buy them." And now suddenly "Masks do work so you must wear them. Oh sorry workers need to wear them but not customers." And all the other bullshit.

Fourth his bullshit "soft reopening" where nothing has really opened but new mandates that change constantly like the masks.

Fifth the bullshit inaccurate models, and all the changes to try and fit the numbers to the models.

Sixth, his after hours 30 day extension to his tyrannical shut down of the state.

Again, fuck DeWine and anyone that tries to excuse this bullshit.

"M.K. Pritzker, the billionaire wife of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), is reportedly skipping out on her husband's stringent lockdown orders, jetting off to their $12.1 million equestrian estate in South Florida - a state that has refused to implement what Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) described as "draconian" measures as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.

While Pritzker finds himself in the middle of a legal battle over his extension of the his lockdown order, extending it until May 30 and promoting his All-in Illinois initiative, his wife is nowhere to be seen, at least in the Prairie State.

According to Patch, first lady M.K. Pritzker is staying at the couple's $12.1 million estate in Florida, as the governor has largely refrained from mentioning his wife while fielding questions regarding his own well-being."

The Governor says that it is "disrespectful" to ask questions about his wife or her whereabouts.

499 Shouldn't be too hard to cobble up some sort of flamethrower using a butane cylinder in conjunction with a canister of compressed air. For flying bugs, you need to have pattern of burning fuel droplets scattered like bird shot from the barrel of a sawed-off shotgun. Wide pattern at about 3 yards.

Small enough droplets so they burn out before they hit the ground and set the dry grass alight.

511 464 337 or from pulling the stops out from under the wheels of aircraft so they can take off?

Chock: a block that keeps a wheel from rolling

Chalk: An aircraft number used to designate which aircraft a troop loads onto (airdrop or air assault). It is not the tail number of the aircraft. Too many digits.

Stick: A group of paratroopers that will jump during one pass over a drop zone. If all of them can jump in one pass, then "stick" is not used.

Here endeth the (smart military blog) lesson.
Posted by: Iron Mike Golf at May 05, 2020 12:34 AM (di1hb)

** far be it form me to wade onto a smart military blog with some musical-related trivia and etymology. However, the word "stop" in this context (i.e - "pulling out the stops") is a musical reference related to the pipe organ. With old fashioned pipe organs you added a pipe to the air stream provided by the bellows (thus making the pipe sound when you played the keys on the console) by pulling out the "stop"- which is a small wooden dowel type arrangement on the console which is connected to a mechanism that opens the air valve at the bottom of the pipe. Hence, to make all the pipes on the organ sound and give it its biggest "great organ" sound and organist would "pull out all the stops." Hence the term came to be used for any situation where you have made all efforts to do something, or that you have done something on a "grand scale."

"Chocks" are, indeed, what go under wheels.

"Chicks" are pretty women.

"Checks" are what I am NOT getting from the US government.

And "chinks"?

*Ahem*

Better leave that one alone right now.

Anyway - back to work here in HK - all the best hordlings!

------------------------------

The majority of stuff like this is scripted to break through cloud of daily news bs and get people thinking about Trump in a certain way. It's mental mindfuck shit, that's all. The sheep on the Left don't have thoughts of their own. You can tell when the thoughts are their own because they're supremely stupid thoughts.

Sometimes the stuff is written to antagonize Trump into opening his mouth and saying something that will hurt him with mushy voters. Mushy voters have a good impression of Big Mike. Thankfully Trump knows both these things.

538 Well, I am going to go to bed. Almost midnight here. Unlike yesterday, today was cold and blustery. Strong cold north wind all day. I got in the shop, and tidied the workbench a little, and then began sorting a vast number of little machine screws, all smaller than 1/4 inch. Muffin tins are useful for this. My first-order sort was: fine thread screws, coarse thread screws, hex nuts, square nuts, speed or Palnuts, flat washers, and lock washers -- all categories readily determined by eyeball recognition.

Since the coarse-thread screws in this size range are limited to basically 10-24 and 12-24, I then did a second-order sort on those. And, as it happens, a lot of those happen to be short round-head Phillips head screws with captive star washers, so I separated them out and bagged them. Final-order sort on those puppies. I am less than half way through my bucket of mixed fasteners, so far, but i have made a dent in it. Unsorted, this stuff is basically worth scrap metal price, but sorted by size, it is literally worth hundreds of dollars to me, not just the value of the parts, but in time and fuel saved by not having to interrupt a project and drive to town to buy a twenty-dollar box of 8-32 or whatever.

It also clears the bench top of a couple of large cans of junk. May as well make my quarantine sentence pay off!

Night, Horde.

I don't believe any of the numbers any more. If the gummint needs the number of cases to go up, they will go up. The shutdown will continue for as long as the Progs can get away with.

I live in MA. Originally, our shutdown was supposed to end today. However, last week our idiot governor not only extended the shutdown to May 18, he also decreed that starting tomorrow, mask wearing is mandatory (of course, that brings up the question of why we weren't wearing masks in April if they're so necessary now).

I am certain that he ordered the mask wearing so that he can extend the shutdown to the end of the month, at least. He's a POS RINO who boasted about not voting for Trump.

Mark my words - within a week, the MA shutdown deadline will be extended.

690 And while we're talking about it, I'm going with 5k-10k legitimate Lung AIDS deaths. Maybe fewer. Some other moron has a great hypothesis that the people actually keeping the elderly alive and healthy in nursing homes (their families) are no longer allowed to visit, and that's killing them.

Heck, elderly, diabetic Tom Hanks got it and survived, so it can't be much of a problem. And COVID-19 didn't make you eat fried chicken every day for the last 30 years.

As far as I'm concerned, the only legitimate deaths from COVID should be from a positive RNA diagnosis with an accompanying pneumonia.

Someone looked at all of the data coming in and showed that only about 11k COVID cases had those two factors.

Which means they are faking the COVID numbers by roughly 80pct.

This coming election demorats are heavily depending on it. Their stooges are digging in deep, and committed on perpetrating it.
