Or what if the MLB consolidates each Division into one team? Wouldn't that be wacky?

For instance, the AL East would become one team of 25? players from the Red Sox, NYY, BJays, and Oreos.
That way, the MBL isn't sending every single player to Arizona or wherever to play.

This has been an obsession since the Bud Selig days (I don't think he's been commissioner for quite some time; do correct me if I am wrong, as you will see I have not followed baseball in years). It's one of the reasons the Astros went from the NL to the AL in a very stupid move. (You already have an AL team in Arlington; why do you want there to be TWO? Oh, I forgot, the obsessive devotion to realignment, traditions be damned.) I was more than willing to stick with my Stros through the lean years, and had in fact done so, but once that decision was made, that was it for me. The Astros went into the AL in 2013 and I was done with them at that point, and I just stopped following baseball in general.

Today was one of those days. I was out get Miley a garden plot smoothed up. Running the little 3 pt hitch smooth harrow for my 3910. I got that, then hooked up a drag to get really smooth. Out there doing that, I ran out of fuel.

The fuel gauge has been inoperative for years. I had eyeballed the fuel level, thought it had enough, but it didn't.

So, needed to get some diesel fuel. To do that, I needed to get the old '92 pickup going, which has a rig for a 55 gal drum. I had to charge the battery on it. I got it running. Then I discovered the tag sticker had expired in Jan. '20. Insurance card had expired in March of '20.

I found the new insurance card, but couldn't find the new sticker for the damned tag. We looked for that for about an hour, but no luck.

To get a new one, you've got to go to the DMV. And because of the stupid WuFlu, all the local ones are closed.

So, I'm pissed. At myself for losing the damn sticker. But hey, I've been doing that shit for years, and am not gonna change in this lifetime.

Unfortunately she ended up at the crappy hospital (that nobody around here would ever voluntarily go to) because they emptied out our nearby hospital in anticipation of the onslaught of corona cases that did not occur.

She was a very nice lady and prayers for Linda's family would be much appreciated. Losing a loved one is hard, I can't imagine not being able to have a normal wake/funeral and the support of your friends and relatives.

My son is taking this hard, he's been her neighbor for 15 years. They took care of each other. He would get on the ladder and clean her gutters and in the winter she got out the snowblower and did his sidewalk while he was at work. Her poor dog, Daisy. My grandson is going to be very upset. I am upset. I hate GCH (the hospital) with every fiber of my being. I knew from everything I heard that those idiots would end up killing her from sheer incompetence. And they did.

A tremendous effort in construction and coordination then began. In the space of a month, the fire was out, the building rehabbed, new equipment from every corner of the country installed, and the phones were back online. Making your reason to be elected because you represent a niche interest or are all about a niche identity (i.e. - "I'm gay!" "I'm black!" I'm a woman!") will not cut it. I think this is why governors do much better than other office holders is because being governor is running less on an identity politics and on much broader, more inclusive, themes.

"We have no idea, now, of who or what the inhabitants of our future might be. In that sense, we have no future. Not in the sense that our grandparents had a future, or thought they did. Fully imagined cultural futures were the luxury of another day, one in which 'now' was of some greater duration. For us, of course, things can change so abruptly, so violently, so profoundly, that futures like our grandparents' have insufficient 'now' to stand on. We have no future because our present is too volatile. ... We have only risk management. The spinning of the given moment's scenarios. Pattern recognition."

I get very nervous, self-conscious and self-loathing and I really, really don't like people who know me only from here to meet me in the flesh.

I may not even go to the NoVaMoMe, even though I reserved a spot. I am just as likely to e-mail bluebell and weasel a day before and say I am not coming. It takes a great amount of "screwing up courage" to go.

But if you all get a New England meet together, I will be more than happy to send along some folding green for drinks for you all.

How can a POTUS just order a plant to do things that will end up harming the plant?

See WWII -- lots of similar "open facism". The industry was begging Trump to do something. They wanted him to do this.

Number one thing was liability. If some employee got sick, he could sue the plant. By "nationalizing" in this way, liability is waived. And they're talking about doing similar liability waivers for other industries.

Neighbors are co-op schooling while schools are closed. One neighbor, ex-Marine, is in charge of PE.

He's got elementary school kids lined up in his back yard doing burpees and air squats while chanting "I don't know but I believe, Santa comes on Christmas Eve. "

Now he's got them marching to the lot line and back chanting "I hate school! I hate school! Studying at home is really cool!"

The kids are totally into this. It's hilarious. And a joy to watch.

One of my writing books has a Spillane story.

He was on a panel one time, and after it was over, he said, "You know, we talked about plot and character and dialogue, but we didn't talk about the most important aspect of writing. Money."

He explained that, after the success of his early books, he took off to a South Sea island and just hung out. He would think, every now and then, "Gee, I ought to write another book," but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't come up with any ideas.

After about a year, he checked in with his accountant, who told him that his bank account was fine, but it was getting a little low and he might want to consider pumping it up a bit.

"And, oh, boy," Spillane remembered, "after I heard that, did I ever get ideas for new books!"

I drove up from Savannah for his graduation, and so I could bring him to see his prog family in Atlanta before he shipped off to Okinawa.

Weirdest trip ever. I was able to take him to dinner, and then the wild storm came in. I couldn't see the road AT ALL to drive him back to base. He was spotting me. As we pulled up to the main gate, they told us "something" had hit the barracks.

The next day, we drove thru Nashville just 24 hours before the interstate flooded killing several dozen people in their cars on I-24.

Ugh.

478 > Every major famine of the 20th Century occurred under a Marxist government. Every. Single. One.

Correction: there were two exceptions, both of which were caused by Japanese occupations in South Asia.

Other than the Bengal Famine in WWII (which the communists like to blame on the British, but was actually mostly caused by the Japanese occupying Burma and cutting off the rice supply) and the Indonesian Famine in WWII (also Japanese-induced), the death toll is:

Soviets: at least 20 million.
Communist China: at least 50 million.
North Korea: at least 3.5 million.
Cambodia: around 3 million (hard separate famine victims from murder victims here).
Ethiopia under the Derg Marxist-Leninist Junta: at least 1.2 million.

You know what you don't see? Famine in any Evil Western KKKapitalist Country.

"Look out" "Beware" "no" "stand back" "heads up" and every other phrase I could think of that might be yelled out. It wasn't helpful, since they were more likely to say "look at the stupid gweilo. He's gonna die"

I wondered what a Chinese engineer in America would do if someone yelled "duck". Probably raise his head to look around for the duck.

Failing to comply with an order under the DPA is a federal felony. 1 yr in jail and/or $10K fine.

Reading it over, the president is giving just about dictatorial powers over industry when it is lawfully invoked.

One power is to "settle labor disputes". POTUS can dictate terms to unions carte blanche, and management.

I'll buy several frozen roasting hens from Kroger, when the drop the price from $1.07/lb., to $0.70/lb. Sometimes, even $0.59/lb.

I buy *only* hens weighing between 6-1/2 lbs. and 7 lbs. Any of the grocery store roasted chickens tend to weigh in at about 3-1/2 lbs.

I cook a far better tasting chicken than any of their offerings.

And due to the size, that's two meals for two adults, plus I keep the drippings from the roasting dish. And of course, all of the bones, carcass and scrap-cuts.

Those go into a freezer bag, to be made into soup, when it's time to make soup.

The grocery store roasteds are a snack, for lunch. Teeny tiny drumsticks, and BD BD wangs.

581 My hair stylist came over and cut my hair and my sister's hair. She told me a bizarre story about the mayor of her (very, very blue) suburb.

The mayorette was having an affair with a guy in another suburb. He broke it off and she went to his place, very drunk, and trashed his house. He called the cops on her.

Then her teenaged son went to the roof of a parking garage overlooking the 'burb's main street and threw his bike off it. The parking garage is next to a very busy grocery store - I've shopped there myself. Luckily, nobody was hurt.

This loon is still the mayor of the most liberal suburb in the area. It's all OK 'cause she's a Dem.

Yeah, raw soybeans are somewhat toxic. Running through the dog like a goose was probably the result of that.

How much you have to eat to be really a problem, I don't know. Lima beans, IIRC, are toxic raw, and it doesn't take too much. A handful of two can cause problems. Cooking easily breaks down the toxic compounds to harmless components.

686 Everybody started adding soybeans to their vegetable fried rice (Trader Joe's looking at you) or other frozen veggies blends. Somehow they ruin it.

Posted by: JuJuBee at April 28, 2020 10:00 PM (COzlW)

687 I mentioned egg wrecks. The laying houses were worse. You needed to wear a respirator due to the ammonia smell. You change out the houses twice a year, to ramp up production for the peak times (Christmas and Easter). You pull the chickens out of the cages and sometimes their legs break because they get just enough calcium to produce a good shell.

You really get tired of the smell, more than anything. I did that job for a year, with my husband. Worst place I've ever worked.

Posted by: notsothoreau at April 28, 2020 10:01 PM (JKNZq)

688 I have operated a lot of combines cutting beans, wheat, and corn, and will guerantee you better clean out the auger trapdoors when you are done cutting soybeans. If you leave that chore undone you get rotting corpse/maggots/gagpuke smell in a week or so. And sooth, the hawaiian judge might outlaw meat but not spam.

I need to close these parentheses but I think I'm trapped: I can't remember why I started them but OK hard stopnoW!!) Hey I did it! Anyhow, so Highland Park 18 is way overpriced but really really good.....I'm working on the last bottling (the one with the fncy glass shit) and comparing it to a bottling fromn about 20 years ago. The 18 year old stuff from 2000 is a lot smoother and lighter , and interestingly less peated. The earlier edition I have bears out the idea that long-aged malts are lighter, more complicated and smoother than less aged ones, but this one if anything is heavier and richer, although still much more complicated, than the 12 year old Highland Park I remember.SO!!I must get, and sample a 12 y.o. edition ASAP. The question is too urgent, and demands attention. I'll keep you posted if I remember maybe.
