I don't think we should discount that possibility, but they sure had a *lot* of candidates and none of them seem like the sort to ignite their base.
Could be that a Cuomo or someone rides into the gap, and since there isn't time to vet they ride a wave of excitement over any sort of content.
But I think the more likely outcome is fighting and confusion for the Democrats.

The states that don't dislike NY and CA vote Dem anyway, but running a loudmouthed governor from NY or CA will alienate a lot of swing states. There isn't a lot of love lost between the Interior and those two states.

Living in NYS, I can tell you Cuomo has a lot of baggage that people forget about. He's not that likeable at all outside of a 30 second clip from CNN. Off the top of my head, just recently he was asked what people who were deemed non-essential were supposed to earn money. He said "get an essential job." I still remember when he very publicly said any New Yorker who was not Pro-Abortion was not welcome in the state. That alone would lose him alot of votes nationally. There's his brother who's a real dirtbag as everybody saw last week. The Chez Gueverra worship pic in his daughter's living room. I could gp on, but the Trump campaign could make hours and hours of ads like this about him. He probably has worse optics then Biden if anybody does any opp research at all. He's not that slick.

Biden was the one candidate I was most afraid of getting the nomination on the dem's side because I thought he would be able to draw away Trumps blue-collar democrat voters.
However his mental capacity is clearly on the decline and will be readily apparent to anyone paying attention to the race.
Problem is that COVID has changed the political landscape. No longer can Trump on on a perfect economy. He can't run on competent response to the virus really, since so much of it has been left to the states and the federal bureaucracies really screwed the pooch on this one.
I'm a natural eeyore who loves to be proven wrong in my eeyore predictions but I really do think that if they manage to put up any candidate that can string together more than 3 words in a sentence, Trump's cooked.
Especially since now, the whole "inject yourself with bleach" has become a culturally accepted meme. I've heard it from at least a half a dozen neighbors now.

Since this is a smart mil blog, I'll point out that I've been reading Ian Toll's trilogy on the Pacific War, and there's a very interesting parallel. The Japanese Navy and Army hated each other, to the point that they'd do things which were manifestly militarily disastrous, just to avoid having to give any credit to the other branch. Midway was an example.
I think the modern Dems may be on the same path. The Bernie bros and the Bidenites seem to hate each other, and regardless of their anti-Trump rhetoric, would rather indulge their mutual hates than do anything that might actually hurt Trump. I strongly support this approach.

So of course Trump then tweeted that he was being sarcastic and wondering if there were any noble reporters left, he knows they were part and parcel of the Russia scam.

From just what my liberal friends are blabbing about in front of me, they seem to think that this is our new normal. They're talking about doing away with things like offices altogether.
While that may not be true, and its hyperbolic to say the least - we're going to be living with the repercussions of Wuhan Flu for a lot longer than the virus itself. The biggest economy doesn't just get shutdown and then cranked back up again like nothing ever happened. If the shutdown was for #TwoWeeks like they originally said, yeah, fine. But 2+ months is going to leave a mark. Marks that will be visible and tangible come November.

Why? No food. No one is keeping 7 or 8 week old food.
And I don't know how much restaurant suppliers like Sysco and White Swan have in storage.

I don't believe I've ever read about any republican politician "grappling" with a decision. Instead, they are "rushing" to do X or Y - "rushing" meaning with little to no thought.
Thus, Trump is "rushing" to reopen the economy instead of "grappling" with the decision whether to reopen the economy, but the dems are "grappling" with the decision of what to do with Joe.
See, if they "grappled" with it, any decision is OK because they thought long and hard about it and weighed all of the variables to come to a learned decision.

There are many good reasons why we don't let amateurs diagnose mental health conditions. Even the professionals get these things wrong a lot. Especially personality disorders.
Among other things, it's unethical to try to diagnose someone who DIDN'T come to you for help (for varying values of coming to), and if you have any knowledge of diagnosis, you have no business trying to diagnose someone like Trump, from afar.
Beyond that, with amateurs and personality disorders and public figures, it kinda matters what the person ALREADY thinks of the person one is diagnosing. Your bias might very well lead you to conclusions that others won't see, when they don't have your pre-conceived biases.
And of course most importantly, if you aren't planning on helping the person, what the hell are you doing trying to diagnose in the first place? You think a diagnosis is a character flaw? Go F yourself.
Your neighbor needs to hear that phrase. A lot.

This tells me that Murphy might be forced to open earlier.
What's weird is that liquor stores, convenience stores, gas stations--all the places that sell lottery tickets--have all remained open as "essential" through this whole shitshow.

I was introduced to it at a fairly young age. I knew people who ate scrapple as a regular part of their breakfast. I am a pretty adventurous eater and cook. I taught myself to like foie gras and other strange cuisine. I even have a soft spot for PA and in particular PA Dutch cuisine. With that said, I can eat scrapple from time to to but it is not something I would choose to eat. Basically, scrapple is awful, or offal.

Ah, but there is NEVER a shortfall of government money! Murphy is flipping over our senior citizens in NJ and shaking them until every damn cent falls out of their pockets. He is stopping the Homestead Rebate ( yes, it's a scam, but at least eventually the seniors get to have some of their own money back) AND he is eliminating the property tax freeze a lot of seniors depend on. Those two programs are a large chunk of money for people on a fixed income. Trying to convince a parent to leave NJ is difficult as they have the mindset, "I built this house; I paid it off; and I've lived here for decades so why should I leave?"

The left lives on emotion, not facts. When the totality of what went down in 2015-2017 is put in front of them it will be done in a way only the very stupid will be able to deny. Sure, some will. Some think a guy can become a girl if he wishes upon a star.
But none of them are immune to a loss of enthusiasm and all are susceptible to the mocking and derision they love to dish out. It's up to us to never let them forget how stupid they were to fall for that load of crap and ask them what else did their heroes lie to them about.
