Over the weekend, I ran into another example of the MSM hive mind at work. I was trying to track down some info about Joe Biden's alleged assault (back in 1993) on staffer Tara Reade and how the Democrats were "grapplicng" with the accusation, so I entered "grapple with biden tara reade" (without the quotes) into the Google search bar. And I got a number of hits, and it was amzing how that word 'grapple' was used. Print stories published on cnn, the (uk) guardian, npr, motherjones, the washingtonpost all use that word. Which, due to the nature of Joe Biden's offenses, is kind of an odd choice of words. It's like they all got in the same room together and said, ok, what are we going to write about this story? Or, at least, they all copied each other. But another point is that Tara Reade really isn't helping herself with this. According to the the opinion piece in the guardian by Katie Halper, who laments the fact that Reade is being ignored by most in the press, notes that right-learning reporters were interested, but
...neither I nor Reade, a lifelong Democrat who identifies as a progressive feminist, wanted her story and the #MeToo movement weaponized to help Trump.And:
Election Day, Americans will be asked to choose between two candidates, both of whom face credible allegations of sexual assault. Nobody is more upset about this than Tara Reade: “I tried so hard to be heard when there were 20 Democrats running,” she told me...But, Tara says, “I will never ever support Trump. I am never voting Republican.”.Did Reade really expect that she'd be able to lob an incendiary charge like this right into the middle of a white hot election cycle and have it not have any political repercussions? That Joe Biden is just not going to slink quietly into the shadows? How stupid can she be? That's not how these things work. And Halper is not helping Reade's cause at all:
We are in an excruciating situation with no easy solutions. Tara wants Biden to step down, understandably, as do others who see him as a disastrous candidate. Others wish Tara had been listened to before Biden was the last man standing, but now see no alternative. Both positions are understandable and neither should be shamed. But what is shameful is ignoring or belittling Tara because it’s politically inconvenient to grapple with her story. The powerful media, politicians and organizations who ignored her or didn’t take her seriously enough have no authority to say anything besides “I’m sorry,” and promise to do better, for Tara, women like her and the #MeToo movement they’ve already harmed.You ever notice that when the Republicans are the bad guys, progressives are not afraid call them out by name, i.e. "Donald Trump" or "the Koch Brothers" or the Republicans"" or "Fox News", and they're always very specific. But when the bad actors are on their own side, suddenly it all gets very vague and undefined. Halper says that Tara Reade has been victimized by nameless "powerful media, politicians and organizations", but what she doesn't say out loud is that all of these are progressives and Democrats. It's very much like when they complain that Kamala Harris didn't win because of "racism", but conveniently leave out the fact that what she didn't win was a primary election where the only voters were Democrats. So if Halper wants to help stop the creeps from thinking they are allowed to put their fingers up her skirt, she needs to publicly call out the creeps for being creepy and to publicly name the media outlets and whatever other organizations are running interference for the creeps. And you need to realize that due to the political environment we're all living in right now, your actions may serve the interests the other guys, i.e. Trump. If you're not willing to make that sacrifice, then I guess you don't really want to stand up and be heard so bad after all. If that's the case, sit down and shut up. So what Reade wants and what Halper wants is "justice", but they want it in such a way so that their side doesn't get damaged. But it's impossible to square that circle. And after reading Halper's piece, I'm losing any sympathy I might've had for Reade. Remember it was feminists like Halper (and Reade) who defended the serial rapist Bill Clinton to their last dying breath because abortion. And what they're getting hit with is the bitter fruit of the unholy alliance between feminists who have pissed all over centuries of moral restraints and sexually predacious males who agree that such restraints should be abolished. Oh, and to top it all off, CNN is trying to bury a recently discovered Larry King clip of Tara Reade's mother calling into his show to complain about Biden's behavior. So Tara Reade is basically collateral damage in the progressives' never-ending revolution to remake America.

This is my point about Reade - Democrats don't really turn on Democrats. On the rare occasion when one DOES grow a conscience, you can tell they are genuine by a simple thing called "the Deadness Test" (cf. Seth Rich).

I just have to say that if this Tara Reade story was preplanned to release, now is the absolute perfect time to do it.
Biden has a delegate lead that's effectively insurmountable. The rest of the field has dropped out. He's pretty much the candidate, but only pretty much. There's still room for him to be removed before he gets the nomination, but the moves to take him out within the rules would be damn near impossible to follow through on (convincing the rest of the primary voters to vote for someone else, especially since everyone's dropped out). And then there's the less rule bound methods, which would lead to complete chaos.
They could either strike Biden's name and install someone else, which would piss off everyone but that one person's supporters. That one person will most likely not have spent the last year trying to build a coalition within the Party, so it's a disaster. They could also re-do the entire primary, but it would be last second, subject to the whims of the Establishment, and be a complete disaster in execution.
Biden is effectively the nominee, but not actually, which gives those wanting him gone a whiff of hope to be able to get him gone. That hope is dangerous and could bread into resentment and anger by the time Biden just takes the nomination at the convention (virtual or whatever).
After the nomination, it'd be too easy for the left to simply ignore it. Now, though? That desperate hope of replacing him is going to feed a lot of anger in certain feminist circles of the left.

One of my little issues with the movie Shattered Glass is that they show that story visually and then only briefly mention it later as made up. In terms of cinematic power, the image is more impactful than the spoken word, so showing the audience the fake story but just mentioning that it's fake feels like it wants the audience to still believe the fake story.

My barber is one of those sweet leftists and she is a rare treasure in that she understands my hair, but the chatter I overhear from her co-workers makes the time in the chair a little unpleasant. I have to work to stay engrossed in conversation with her so I don't hear the other ladies. I about lost it when one of her co-workers was parroting the line that conservatives (or was it Christians?) were responsible for some terrorist act.
I do not know why God sometimes hardens hearts and blinds eyes, but I sure can tell that He does. I don't see any other explanation for how people can disregard logic and evidence and experience.

"Grapple" makes the whole thing sound like it's serious - like PowerPoint presentation serious - and it humanizes the poor put upon Democrats, while sucking all emotion from the actual story.
In fact the only emotion it evokes is a substitute one - sympathy for Democrats in the present, rather than any possible victim in the past. Also there's no anger in it, although honestly people *should* be angry that Biden did this - that it is surfacing - that he of all possible people is the nominee.

Every day I look at the chart of new virus cases in Mass. After a definite downtrend started on 4/10, there was a huge spike last week on the 24 th. Almost 5000 cases in one day causing a huge spike. Today, back down to 1500 following the trend before the spike. Caught a line in a story about a DPH error on the 24th. So after diligently searching found that Quest had lumped an error of 2500 cases into one day's reporting. 10,000 test reults not reported over who knows how many days. It made it look like we were still in a crisis peak. I am sure they are going to use this to extend the lockdown. I am just so incredibly angry I can hardly think. There is no one I can call to vent about this as everyone I love thinks I should just stay home amd don't worry, be happy. But I'm not. I want my life back.

This happened in a number of states. Colorado had a ludicrous spike three days ago with daily new cases almost double the previous one-day high.
reasons?
1. On the same day they reported twice as many tests had been done that day as on any prior day.(while the actual percentages of tests that were posittive dropped). i.e. more tests to plump up the numbers.
2. CO includes 'presumed' cases in their case count and have been saying all along this accounts for a "very small portion" of the total case count, yet a table on the same page shows "probable" and "unknown" (i.e. unconfirmed) cases as 11% of the total case count.
3. CO is now counting people with symptoms and a positive antigen test as new cases added to their daily new case count.
The entire exercise is bogus, by virtue of changing methodology, testing strategies and case definitions in midstream, which CO has done several times over the last few weeks.

I have a number of coworkers who have been furloughed since 03/16/20 and it has not been easy for them, nor for those of us still working from home, spread thin and taking up the added work of those furloughed.
The best our bosses keep telling those of us who are in contact with furloughed employees is to remind them to keep in touch with their contract houses. Because the intention is to bring all of them back, just a matter of when.
But that's the rub, isn't it... the unknown. Can't plan for anything when you have no idea when the office will be opening up again.
I have been told that the "furlough" distinction is important, because (1) it is meant to be temporary, not a permanent layoff and (2) it allows in some cases for the employees to keep their health insurance.
Is this the case for your situation?

Yep. At some point it stops being important how many people have/had this virus. The only two numbers that matter are how many people are CURRENTLY being treated, and how many died.
Nobody seems to be doing any data around the current treatment, and that was the WHOLE reason we started social isolation in the first place.

Any county wishing to apply for a local variance from part or all of this Executive Order must submit a written application to CDPHE certifying that the county has low case counts of COVID-19 cases or can document fourteen (14) consecutive days of decline in COVID-19 cases reported in the county. The application must include a written COVID-19 suppression plan approved by the appropriate local public health authority, all hospitals within the county (unless no hospitals are located in the county), and a majority of the county commissioners, or, in the case of the City and County of Denver, the mayor of Denver, or, in the case of the City and County of Broomfield, the city council.
So you can get out from the governor's yolk, but only if your case volume is dropping for at least two weeks or if you have a "small number" of cases. Yet we keep testing, keep adding antibody tests as "cases" and keep estimate and assuming cases.
The only way to hit that standard - even if you can strongarm the hospitals into going along with you - is to stop testing.

But he was talking about deplatforming and demonetizing on Youtube, and there does appear to be people like himself that are still around, because, he says, he appeals to conservatives, even though he isn't one. I think he's right. Guys like PJ Watson and Mark Dice get no ad revenue from Youtube. Meanwhile, big media spouting the China narrative, through WHO, they get thrust to the top and gobble up as much ad revenue as possible.

I agree completely. The calls to expand testing, not to understand the dynamics of the epidemic but to make it "safe to return to work" are nonsensical. The state's own data show that, with the late aberrant spike in new cases concurrent with a death curve that has peaked and returned to virtually zero being at odds with each other.
The disease is not ramped up, the testing is, and all it tells us is the prevalence is higher than initially assumed.
I guess the good news is that even though they are flogging the numbers they will continue to go down.

Park entry was locked when i made it back, so I drove in through the exit. I pulled up to the tent and out came 5 very unhappy people and a park ranger. He was friends with the girls' parents who had been called and were on their way. Told the boys to beat it. Friend of a friend opened the door, stuck his head in, looked at the seat, and said, "hey, what's in the bag?" Good friend dove both of them into the car with a great body block, while I threw it in reverse with the door open. Pre-cellphone era was great.

After re-watching the entire series over the past 2 weeks to get ready for Season 4, I remembered my annoyance with King Alfred regarding Uhtred.
Uhtred did everything for him, even helped save his son, who is his heir to the throne. Yet, no matter all the battles Uhtred won for him, all the times he saved his son and his daughter from harm, Alfred never could give him the respect and trust he deserved... because Uhtred was pagan.
That and his insufferable wife always got on my nerves.
But other than that, love the series.
Though I did hate having to watch again as a beloved character died a tragic death at the end of Season 3.
