Mayor Super-Spreader: The Moment We Reopen New York City, We're Going to Have a Huge Nuts-to-Butts Ticker Tape Parade for Our Health Workers So That We Start the Second Wave of Infections With a Bang

China unleashed coronavirus on the world, but this asshole -- and Andrew Cuomo -- released the plague to the rest of the US.

And here he goes again.

Philadelphia threw the same sort of parade when the first wave of the 1918 Spanish flu passed.

Guess what happened next?

As a friend said to me last week, presciently: "Just shut up and clap for the nurses."

Boy, the The City That Hectors The Rest of the Country Relentlessly just so happens to be The City That Ignores All the Rules It Shrieks At The Hinterlands.

It's almost as if socialism-inclined people want to impose controls on others while electing themselves a special status giving them immunity to the controls they demand.

This thread by Karol Sheinin ripping Andrew Cuomo for extending the blanket lockdown for a month while gaily ignoring his own viral-vector brother's flouting of the blanket lockdwon rules is worth a read.

Hume sounds like the liberal lackey and Berenson (as he almost always is IMHO) is the cogent, thoughtful intellectual challenging the status quo. It's actually pretty amazing how Hume has given into the scare tactics and political lie du jour.

Heroes abound in all walks of life but nurses have to put up with a lot more shit than most people.

Let me just say, as a veteran, I think this should apply to veterans as well.

Certainly celebrate actual heroes.

Sure, acknowledge the hardships faced by those who saw combat and the lesser hardships by the rest of us. "Thank you for your service" doesn't bother me but, when people start throwing the H-word around, I start getting uncomfortable.

I'm starting to think that these characters who support Trump might be suicidal. They seem to fight hardest for the things that will kill them."

No, dickweed. The point of all this was to prevent overwhelming ICU beds. ICU beds are not overwhelmed. None of this had anything to do with preventing spread or exposure - it had to do with preventing spread and limiting exposure so as to slow down the demand for hospital resources.

Remember that? Remember "bend the curve," buddy?

And no, the people protesting the shutdowns are not suicidal or stupid - they're a mixture of people who are appalled at the government overreach and those desperate to have their jobs and businesses back. Fuck directly off.

I still believe this was a joint black operation between the Deep State and China/WHO to do exactly what is happening: crash the American economy for the purposes of getting rid of Trump.

The operation was a success as soon as Trump agreed with the recommendations for social distancing and recommended States shut down.

Yes, *he* was doing it for the sake of the science of "flattening the curve". But that was never the intention of the Deep State.

They knew as soon as they got him to agree to recommend state closings, the Deep State was going to make it politically impossible for any State to open up again in any time frame that would save the economy.

Eventually. It follows a pretty predictable trajectory:
1) There is a problem and no one is around to solve it well. The government makes do with what they have.
2) To try to prevent (1) from happening again, they make an agency or program to deal with it in the future.
3) At its first test, the agency or program from (2) performs reasonably well. Budgets, staff and mandate are increased.
4) Shifting mandates and pet projects, along with typical civil service incompetence, continue to grow.
5) The agency or program becomes fully corrupt and useless and fails catastrophically at its original mission.
6) The agency or program is big enough to have influence and pull, and so the agency is "audited" and "investigated" and the budgets and personnel increase to try to "fix" it so it can perform as well as it did when it was new.
7) Part (6) doesn't work, and it is permanently just another worse-than-useless and increasingly expensive agency or program.

Yes. Yes, you said that if we stayed at home, that would flatten the curve, and then we wouldn't have to stay at home.

The curve is a ruler straight line by me. Explain to me like I'm five why it is that I still have to stay at home when the peak has passed and all the other buzzwords.

Explain to me like I'm five why when I live in an area where there were a grand total of four new cases in the last three days that businesses cannot start to reopen, with reasonable precautions.

Explain to me, WITH RECEIPTS, every single solitary penny that Kimmel has lost in salary from this.

324 Yes, *he* was doing it for the sake of the science
of "flattening the curve". But that was never the intention of the Deep
State.

They knew as soon as they got him to agree to recommend state
closings, the Deep State was going to make it politically impossible for
any State to open up again in any time frame that would save the
economy.

And as everyone knows by now, except for a select few places, for a very short period of time, hospitals have NOT been overwhelmed with patients.

Instead, you DO have personnel being laid off, folks who do surgeries and other specialty services that cannot be teleworked, and aren't being allowed to restart doing "routine" services yet.

I didn't get the impression it was to do something not trained to do. Plus, you're a nurse. If you can't do some OTJT when it hits the fan, then what good are you? You have to know the basics. You would have to know how to the basics in dealing with people with contagious diseases. Maybe it is like asking the guy who knows how to drive a car to work the backhoe. However, he might not be able to do that, but he can handle doing the signal flags, etc.
Posted by: WOPR at April 21, 2020 02:11 PM (dSwWw)

Well there are basics and then there are things that might seem basic to the outsider. Infectious diseases are nothing to sneeze at, and if you've been nursing in, say psychiatry, you really don't have any business working around contagious people.

More importantly though, this thing hasn't been handled well by administrators, who aren't really responding to patient care needs. They don't want to get sued, and they don't want to lose money.

Beyond that, I don't think their brains go there. And if you have worked as a nurse in a system long enough, you have to look out for yourself, because nobody upstairs will.

This.

I remember railing against Trump when he didn't fire Mueller immediately. Counsel on this site suggested to wait, and see what happened down the road. We all know how that ultimately turned out.

Once the media gets hold of a negative narrative, it's almost impossible to turn it around. See Katrina, GWB for an example of that.

Trump did the right thing by not resisting. In fact, you'll find that he has positioned himself on both sides of the virus panic successfully. He's both advocated for action to shut down and for action to get started again, has gotten excoriated on both actions from the same folks, and has come out on top at the end of it all. That is some black-belt political ju-jitsu at work there, from a master at the game.

There is no politician out there - not even Bill Clinton - that could have pulled off what Trump is doing right now. That this is his first elected political position, to boot, is nothing short of astounding.

453 Trump did the right thing by not resisting.

474 Also Trump understands the playing field. He knows where the advantages, the disadvantages and the traps are.

You would never know it from all the noise but Trump actually has *them* surrounded. That's one of the reasons he keeps coming out of everything so clean.

If they had Trump on the ropes (rather than the other way around) they could have just sat back for a few years and enjoyed watching him flail into mediocrity and the proverbial dustbin of history.

As it stands, if the Left lets up for even a minute it would be Trump doing that to them in the same way Reagan did (which we know Bush Sr. threw away). That is why the "Trump botched the virus" narrative has started especially on the purported right, and why we will all be subjected to bullshit Hearings this summer.

They can's sit back and let Trump take the narrative, so they are on constant offense. But in martial arts, you use your opponent's size and aggressiveness against them, and that's what Trump does.

Agreed, 100%.

Bottom line: you can't lead where people don't want to go. Sometimes you can change their minds and convince them that they want to go somewhere, sometimes you can't and just have to go along with where they want to go.

Most of the time, leadership amounts to organizing people to do the things they kind of want to do in the first place.

Agreed. But what I was saying was in response in general to those who don't understand why the goalposts keep moving when the reasoning given in the beginning was to "flatten the curve".

That was the reasoning given, but the Left's reason was always to crash the economy and keep the states closed and blame this all on Trump to help Democrats win the White House in November.

They'll keep changing the reasoning, keep fudging the numbers, keep deliberately lying about things, keep paying Karens to scold people into agreeing with the shut-down orders as long as needed.

This was never about the virus. This is about controlling the people and getting back control of the White House in November.

My aluminum foil hat (tin is so passe) wonders what happened between Trump wanting to end this shit on Easter, and that grim weekend presser a week later where he took it all back and started nattering on about Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

The ridiculous models got revised way the fuck down.
Trump signals a grand re-opening on Easter.

What TF happened next. He seemed to have caught on to this shit and was about to end it and the next thing you know it's like he's hostage to the Deep State.

Posted by: Guy Smiley at April 21, 2020 02:05 PM

Yep. When Trump did that, that is when I stopped watching those X22 Report videos and stopped believing in any of that "Q" shit.

Because they had been talking all about how Trump was going to open things up on Easter and he had the Left right where he wanted them and there was supposed to be all these arrests of people and freeing of children blah blah blah.

Whatever.

The Left took control of the nation and is nose-diving it into the ground. All Trump is doing is desperately managing the nose-dive and trying to find a way to minimize the crash-landing.
