EMT 4/11/20 Papers Please! edition

Things are rapidly spinning into a dystopian police state in some areas.

I would say I pity those who meekly voted for enslavement, but I do not.

I would say I pity those that meekly follow their orders into the teeth of an armed populace, but I do not.

I would say I pity the children of both parties, and I mean that wholeheartedly.

It is not the fault of the innocent that their parents choose either the shackles or the strong arm of tyranny.

The over-reaction to this wu-flu is a genie that will be nigh impossible to put back into its bottle. We have set a new standard for dealing with large-scale crises, and that standard is unprecedented power to the state.

There are no saints who pursue, much less win, public office. There are only people with a will to power, certain of their own cause.

As much as I have grown to appreciate President Trump, I don't trust him nor any other elected official to give back any power they have attained, no matter how pure their intentions may be.

I pray all choose wisely from here on. The alternative could make us all wish instead for the casualties predicted in those ridiculous wu-flu computer models.

The corona virus is a respiratory virus like the flu and like the flu, it's main mode of killing is through pneumonia and the attendant complications that arise from it, your lungs being inflamed, filled with fluid and unable to function.

The only legitimate COVID deaths should be a positive RNA tests for the specific SARS-COVID2 markers and an accompanying pneumonia.
Anything else is bullshit.

I suspect what they are doing to run up the numbers is simply doing a viral/bacterial RNA test, not testing specifically for COVID, not requiring an accompanying pneumonia and voila, like a magic trick, you have more COVID deaths.

67 Yeah, I've given up. I am sick and tired of being Cassandra.

I said, as these ukases were coming down, that armed resistance was the only solution. I meant that in a half-serious way; the best solution would have been a nationwide 'fuck you,' gathering as you will and in such numbers that the government goons couldn't arrest everyone.

But this last Kentucky madness has tipped the scale - Americans gathering to worship God (a right enshrined in the Constitution) will be forced (and how? At gunpoint?) into quarantine.

Where is the resistance? Where are not only the religious groups but the gun rights groups and the lawyers tasked with upholding the constitution? Why are they not, at this moment, outside the state capitol in the thousands, screaming for the governor's head?

I don't even wonder about the LEOs; we always said that when SHTF, they would care more about their pensions than their oaths.

It's really enough to make me want to go back to bed and pray never to wake up again.

could not have been more wrong. It is funny how things turn out.

I
think the Hollyweird normals should get together and produce their own

that a lot of people would support them. And a lot of people not into

I've been predicting a cabinet-level position (you know Faker Fauci is pressing behind the scenes for this) with nationwide authority to issue stay-at-home orders, isolation or complete lockdown of businesses, cities and / or states. The position will "consult" with the President during times of national emergency, but will have the authority to override any Presidential order.

This authority, of course, will only be used against a GOP president.

153 The sidebar has a link to an article in RedState about Gretchen Whitemer, Gov. of Michigan. Not only has she banned travel to resident's vacation homes (which, oddly enough, only applies to Michigan residents, not those in Ohio who vacation in Michigan), she has also banned any boating with a motorboat. Sailboats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats apparently have some form of protective screen that blocks the virus, I guess.

Additionally, garden centers, nurseries, and similar businesses are shut down - no yard work for you. Landscape companies, like lawn cutting services and fertilizer services, are shut down. But... thankfully, it's OK to congregate around the state lottery machine in the party store and get your scratch-offs.

Interesting tactical question. Her order specifically says you can't go to your own house, but if the cops ask you where you are headed and you tell them you just gotta visit beautiful Sault St. Marie and smell that wonderful smell, can they stop you? In other words, visiting your own home may be illegal, by government fiat, but crossing the border might be ok.
Oh wait, didn't the canuckistan cops say they were closing the border to all us diseased Americans? I think you might be stuck.

Now ban public life and ban personal choice on risk acceptance. We can thank their genius later.

Nothing changes until first those people get shouted down. Fact is - we ain't nearly miserable enough yet to demand change. We ain't even miserable enough to stop being polite.

Polite people don't win. Rude people win.

Actually both of these responses are completely logical, which is why we're all seeing them. The vast majority of people in the country are realizing that the "threat" is mostly fantasy, in reality we have as much chance of dying from this as we have of winning the lottery. BUT everyone freaks out if you don't ACT like you are scared all the time and going through all the required motions. If it was mandated that we also all chant a mantra while turning in a clockwise circle 3 times, we'd all be making a show of that, too. That's what all of this is now. It's about LOOKING like you're trying, not about what you actually do.

304 Liberal/progressives have always longed for a way to control and silence people who don't agree with them. But they also have always pretended that they are for free speech and civil liberties because their views have always been unpopular. They have never been able to persuade anyone who isn't pampered and wealthy that the enemies of this country are really friends. So they deny that there even is a country with borders. This fake heroism, this phony resistance cannot last. because they they love luxury and a soft peace and you can't have that without prosperity.

But for now they have an excuse for their petty tyrannies. They supposedly love science because in their minds once they proclaim something to be a scientific fact, it cannot be argued with and they can use force against the very people they depend on to make their lives work.

In other word it is not facts that impress them but the authority that flows from undisputed facts. Hydroxychloroquinie is an unproved medicine because some depressed progressive hausfrau fed fish tank cleaner to her husband because she wanted to help, in the same way liberals want to help this country. Oh and they don't like Donald Trump either.

I think they will fail but it is true that suspension of civil liberties will be their go to remedy in the future.

Posted by: Mr. Scott (Formerly GWS) at April 11, 2020 08:20 AM (JUOKG)

Yes you can figure it out, it's very easy. Same as my post up above, all enforcement actions are about making a big Show of convincing Important People that they are Doing Something, so the targets are all very Socially Visible people, in Socially Visible areas. Nobody has ever payed any attention to the Mexicans before, so nobody is paying attention to them now, and there's no point for any officials to hassle them since no one else will pay any attention, so why bother?

One more time, every action now is about making a big SHOW of doing something - it isn't about actually doing anything. Because there's no actual need for any of this enforcement, it's nothing but a big Power Play.

taste. Tar-flavored seawater is not unfair. Probably notes of ashtray

I really like the Lagavulin 8. I am sure it is an acquired taste as well as I have worked hard to acquire it lol. The Lagavulin Distillers Edition is really good stuff. You get the peat and smoke, but you get sherry and other flavors too.

Speaking of Scotch. Some guy at the local store blamed Trump's tariffs when I noticed the price of Lagavulin 16 and DE went up over $20 overnight. Funny, they didn't raise the price of the 8 year so that is why I bought it.

I bit my tongue other than saying I doubted that was the only reason. After looking into the issue, Trump's tariffs went into place last October, five months ago. Also, other single malts have not gone up in price over that period. These distillers have ways of eating the costs and not pricing themselves out of the market. Hell the Euros are experts at subsidizing.

After looking into the tariff issue a bit I found some interesting facts. First of all, the Euros, including the Brits, put tariffs on American Bourbon almost two years ago. Trump's original tariffs were on steel as a reaction to illegal airbus subsidies. The WTO ruled that Europe was out of line and was subsidizing illegally. They awarded the US the right to tariff x amount of goods. This was a landmark decision and the biggest ever from what I read. Only then did Trump put tariffs on single malt Scotch.

It was long after they E.U. put tariffs on Bourbon and only after the WTO said the E.U. was cheating and the US should respond. But still you get people blaming the "Trump Tariffs" for this and that.

USPS has data on how many pieces of mail are delivered to the wrong address, but does not keep stats on how many pieces are not delivered (lost, stolen, deliberately destroyed, etc.)

Makes sense. Some proportion of mis-delivered mail is returned to USPS for re-delivery. But how do you know how much is lost, when some (most?) is not reported because the receiver didn't even know it was coming?

Makes sense, but is A BAD OMEN for a vote-by-mail scheme.

Death Wish, yes. Eiger Sanction is fun to watch, good action, but as a movie it's an overall failure. Rodney Whitaker, aka "Trevanian", who wrote it said later that he hated Secret Agent movies and he wrote that intending it to be a satire on the genre. But unlike "our man Flint" or the best satire in the genre of all, Austin Powers, nobody ever realized it was supposed to be satire since there was nothing even faintly humorous about anything that happened. Trevanian was supposed to have been disappointed that no one "got" what he was trying to get across.

370 Overwrought. Yes, there is a clear and present danger, but it just isn't so that the universal idea that governments have police powers in emergencies is, per se, tyranny. It can turn into that, sure, and we must be alert. But it's surely too early to be quite so alarmed. Remember, always, that one besetting weakness of Leftists is overreach. And that may very well bring a healthy reaction.

Also, "There are no saints who pursue, much less win, public office. There are only people with a will to power, certain of their own cause." is absurd, at least the second sentence. Sure, there are few if any saints in politics. But "only people with a will to power" kind of lets out the founders, and many others. Nietzscheanism will get you exactly where it got Foucault. 377 I live in NJ, maybe one of the more likely candidates to be dystopian. Enforcement in my town has been lax to non-existent. The grocery store did not enforce the mask rule, and they tossed the limited number in the store policy quite hastily. My neighbors had a party on Wednesday evening with no less than 10 cars on the street, no one objected.
I suspect had they been loud and flaunting, a Karen would have emerged, but none did.

I've seen the HS track team running along the roads (about 30 boys) with no objections made.

Murphy's rules are not as strict as many govs as garden centers remain open and home depot does not restrict purchases. The craft store is far from essential, but they can still do pick ups. Car dealers are selling.

So it sounds like we're pretty well off compared to some others.

I don't think it was bad, I said it was fun to watch. The Director, and Clint Eastwood, and very well done action scenes saved what was really a pretty bad script. But there's things like Jack Cassidy who's supposed to be a comic character, and then he gets killed casually and cruelly and you think "well there was nothing funny about that at all."

Forty years of brainwashing have left people unable to believe their lying eyes. People are terrified of being ostracized. It will take another Trump victory to get many people to do more than vote.

We need some (well paid) volunteers to be smeared with a small dose of the virus, and run all the tests to see their reaction, chart it all with all their personal health data collected. This would tell us a lot.

417 Found a male Karen sharing his 'concerns' about Operation Gridlock...

Male Karen:

"This makes me angry. I can't believe that people can be so childish. This is not a game. This virus is bigger than your petty little problems. Nobody cares that you're bored, lives including those of your loved ones are at stake. And talking about trespassing on private property because a public servant is doing her job? Whether or not you agree with her that is NOT okay. Stay home, stay safe, and stop contributing to the spread of coronavirus."

lolgf, male Karen.

Some of the good responses:

Dave: "Logan, do you have a paycheck coming in every week? Are you going bankrupt? This isn't about being bored! If small businesses go out of business, where are you going to get your car fixed? Where are you going to eat? Who's going to grow your food? You think you're angry? Wait until your source of income is eliminated. Get back to me then.

Logan: Dave, WHO CARES IF YOURE DEAD???? Why is this so hard to understand???

Logan: "And someone else posted about not being able to buy mulch or paint for their children's room, or that they can't go to the movie theater or have friends over. You're right, it's not about being bored. It's about people being selfish and not acknowledging that even if they are not actively displaying symptoms of COVID-19 they can still be carriers, infecting dozens of other people who eventually carry it to the elderly, those with preexisting conditions, etc. In the scope of this danger, sacrifices such as shutting down nonessential business is a small price to pay for literally saving lives. And yes, I also don't have enough money to pay my bills. I'm in the same situation.

James: "Logan here's the thing, this is America how about you start worrying about your own family and let me do the same with mine! I think all this isolation is going to make things real bad once we get back together. Most will get sick fast (not saying from COVID) but from some other virus. I work from home and coach both my kids in football and baseball. I know that I will get sick the first week of practice, as I am always isolated at home from germs. It's happened every spring and fall for the last 6urs. This will happen to a lot of people, even more so to the ones who have really been hiding in a hole this whole time."

And before you look, is it just me or was anyone surprised when Trump said that HE was the one who wanted to OVER do the beds, and vents. He kept saying as he pointed to Birx and Fauci that they told him you're not going to need that many!
What was that about? All along we have all been thinking he was being pushed by those two which is why he sent The Comfort and the Mercy. Now we find out that he did that I guess out of extreme caution.

I just can't help feeling that we (meaning every person who DOES NOT have the Virus) have been sent into a wild ride of adapting everything in our lives and people who clean houses for a living are standing on Food Bank lines. and Army people building hospitals and costing us more and more money, and they were not needed!! Factories turning into ventilator building lines.

I guess that was kind of good we will be ready for any emergency that comes our way, and I guess as a practice drill for a more devastating emergency we know we can handle one.

Sorry to hear about the furlough, AltonJackson. If you need help with applying for unemployment insurance, Rep. Matt Maddock has been doing a lot through his Fb page and his office to help people, since he realizes the website and call-in for unemployment is jacked.

Every contract person in our office was furloughed the first week of the 'stay-at-home' order. So since the week of 03/16/20 I think. I've been keeping in touch with my friends to see if they need anything. Passing along info from our weekly staff meetings and meetings with management on status updates. Basically all they are saying is to ask people to keep in touch with their contract houses as the company will be going through them to bring people back when the time comes to open the office again.

Which will hopefully be after this current 'stay-at-home' order ending 04/30/20.

443 There are only people with a will to power, certain of their own cause." is absurd
Posted by: Eeyore at April 11, 2020 08:46 AM (ZbwAu)

Not in the least absurd. Preponderant evidence shows it to be more the case than not, and that a so-called crisis exposes the efflorescence of the will to power. And the Founders were a long time ago, another era, another world of values.

445 Trump had to overrespond with supplies, IMO. And why trust Fauci who said "no big deal" at first then wanted to institute shut downs.

At this point I favor opening up everything with masks. If NYC can keep mass transit and let their people travel the country, fuck this isolation crap.

Why can Whitmer say "no going to the lake house" while NY cannot possibly be quarantined?

I only drive manual. I bought a new Forester in 2018 with manual. I was surprised they offered it.

You seem to be taking my first port on you personally.

If you read it again you will see that I would vote for you.

Opinionated/know it all is in part president Trump.

Why wouldn't I vote for that?

Could be. We(the good guys) are under assault here in Kansas. It is a big tell. So I can be a bit touchy.

I'm over it.

453 I just got an email from the US Consulate in China. Apparently due to the Kung Flu bars and restaurants are not serving African Americans in CHina. Also African Americans have to self quarantine for 14 days and be tested regardless of travel history.

I'd post the email here but I'm afraid I'd blow the margins. Is there an email at AoSHq I can send this too?

Now you can bet the US press , those suckers of tiny little Chinese ding dongs and lickers of commie bungholes will not utter one word of this.

Can you imagine the non stop hysteria from the Presstitutes if Trump did this?

454 I see a lot of the festival mindset in all this. The 2020 face mask is cousin to the 1984 leg warmers. People want to be a part of some big, dramatic and exciting thing, want to believe their small mite is important.
Also, it may be that after three-plus years of unrelenting political street fighting, Americans are weary of being angry and suspicious toward one another and are drawn to something, anything, that they can get together over.

455 Late to the party but just found out that PA State Police ticketed a 19 year old woman from York, PA back on 4/5 for "leisure driving" which is apparently now illegal thanks to the Governor. Violation carries up to $200.00 fine. :-/

I am in Georgia. I have been following the IMHE map since 3/30. All along the Peak date was between 4/19 & 4/21. Now it has moved to 4/27 with 94 deaths being the magic number.

458 Nonsense. This "genie" has been let out of the bottle in times of emergency numerous times in our history, most recently during WWII, and was not only put back in the bottle, but put back so assertively as to bring about an economic surge that has kept America on top to this day.

459 After tomorrow, if Trump doesn't mention anything about going back to work within a week, I'm done with him. He will have become part of the problem. Right now he seems to have accepted weakness.

Posted by: Sooner at April 11, 2020 11:15 AM (Fs5vw)

460 458. Not nonsense. For a more relevant example, look at the alphabet soup leviathan established during the Great Depression. Arguably made the economic condition worse, and is strangling us now, and will never die. This chinese flu response will be more like that.

461 Just a theory:

Is "Corona Crisis = Economic Collapse" what happens when a watershed number of formerly sentient beings, frustrated/depressed beyond belief and infected with TDS-Climate Extinction-27Genders grab control of the narrative and take their malicious revenge on 3 years of Winning Winning Winning?

462 Re PDT: losing faith in him is precisely what the Enemies of the People are trying to make us do. Don't fall for it. Yes, his current defensive pose is most uncharacteristic, but he knows what the Left intends better than any leader since Reagan, and now is absolutely not the time to weaken the MAGA base. The MSM orgasms every time they succeed in casting doubt on PDT's strategy... what we see with the "Corona Crisis" is not what is actually happening in the war rooms...

463 America will get back to work before too much longer. When it does - and Durham starts dropping indictments - all the power-hungry pols and bureaucrats will be exposed as close cousins to the FBI/CIA/alphabet agency fascists. It's coming and it's going to be a VERY bad time for would-be tin pot dictators. When it is all over with, the Dem party will be dead for a generation.

If I'm wrong, you'll probably never know because this is post #462+ and nobody is going to see it...

Posted by: Lawrence L at April 11, 2020 02:24 PM (Uu7xZ)

464 I disagree. I think this has been the BitchSlap of All Time (BOAT), and will awaken the sleeping citizen that lies in the heart of every American.

We've been confronted with the Arrogant Elite, and their Minions, who believe that our only functions are:
- To serve their every whim
- To turn over all our money, and be grateful for the crumbs that they return to us
- To obey every rule they choose to impose on us

All of us - even those that formerly thought themselves exempt (and, because the whip did not descend upon them, thought us churlish to complain). Expect that a lot of people will be asking inconvenient questions this election year.
