Trump's Approval Rating for Handling the Wuhan Flu: 60%
The Media's? 44% -- Eleven Points Underwater

chinesevirus

In a poll of the public's approval for all actors in this ginned-up epidemic of panic, the public puts the least trust in the media.

Trump is trusted much, much more than the media.

That's gotta hurt.

President Trump scored among his best approval ratings ever in the latest Gallup poll on his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. As PJ Media's Matt Margolis reported, this is the fourth poll in which Trump has excelled and that is remarkable considering the media anvil sitting on his head.

The media have done even worse in the poll. And why wouldn't they? They:

* Were caught carrying water for the Chinese government to criticize Trump.

* Tried to do silly gotcha stories on Trump for failing to keep proper social distancing while sitting close to other reporters.

* Slammed Trump for giving what they consider "false hope" about using malaria meds to help treat very sick patients.

...

* Called the president a xenophobe and racist for instituting a travel ban from China early in the crisis.

* Called Trump a racist for calling a virus from China a Chinese virus.

* Called him selfish for not doing getting a COVID-19 test even though his doctor didn't think he needed one. It was negative.

...

& Used Chinese government talking points about that government's response to the disease.

* Blamed Trump and "right wing media" of sending mixed messages in a National Emergency that changed by the hour.

* Encouraged other media not to air the president's daily Coronavirus Task Force briefings deriding them as "dangerous."

...

And what of the media's approval rating during this National Emergency? According to the same Gallup poll, the media have not acquitted themselves well, coming in last.

More at the link.

Because Trump is beating them, the media is becoming increasingly shrill about the need to censor Trump from the airwaves. They hope that if the public only hears the leftwing corporate Chinese-colluding media, they'll have no other choice but to believe them.

They're wrong. We hate them. Despise them.

They are literally enemies.

After listing all of Trump's sins committed during these briefings, Washington Post's media critic Margaret Sullivan lowers the boom.

The press -- if it defines its purpose as getting truthful, useful, non-harmful information to the public, as opposed to merely juicing its own ratings and profits --must recognize what is happening and adjust accordingly. (And that, granted, is a very big "if.")

Business as usual simply doesnít cut it. Minor accommodations, like fact-checking the presidentís statements afterward, donít go nearly far enough to counter the serious damage this man is doing to the publicís well-being.

Radical change is necessary: The cable networks and other news organizations that are taking the presidentís briefings as live feeds should stop doing so.

Sullivan thinks that the briefings have become a platform for Trump's "self-aggrandizement," "media bashing," and "exaggerations and outright lies."

You mean a president running for re-election blows up his own role in the crisis and tries to make himself look good? That's never been done before in history! Or, at least since Barack Obama took credit for killing bin Laden.

...

What CNN and MSNBC are worried about is that Trump is becoming hugely popular as a result of these briefings. Unpresidential though they might be, Trump has defied conventional wisdom, shrugged off the virulent, unbalanced criticism from the press, and has toned down his act enough to appear calm and confident. People don't care so much what Trump says, they care how he says it. And the president, to his credit, has been very good at these briefings at exuding confidence and a take-charge persona.

By the way, I like that Doctor Guy P. Benson, Ph.D., is now pretending he wasn't a member of the media pushing the panic as hard as xhe could.

The wife of Vox Wunderkind Ezra Klein knows what we really need -- an even deeper economic depression.

Maybe it's time for this Gang of Geniuses to take a step back from the Makin' Predictions game and evaluate how accurate their last ten thousand predictions turned out.

So they did. And loggers and tourists were killed during the eruption. A week ago, on Twitter, folks were asked if they knew anyone with coronavirus. There were very few yes responses. This week, there are a lot more yeses, including deaths in some families. And they aren't all old people with underlying problems. I think we will see the restrictions being lifted soon. 172 138 You know what all this reminds me of? Mt St. Helens. Back in the day, before it erupted, seismologists were predicting an eruption. So they shut the mountain down to logging and tourism. It didn't take long, just a few weeks, before people were screaming that it was a fake and insisting they reopen the mountain.

We just don't want to do it too early.

184 This panic was straight-up normal prog playbook.

Notionally neutral academics produce a more or less defensible and appropriately hedged "research" result that includes something like the following sentence, "Our parameter selections are based on currently available evidence, our model suggests an outcome that ranges from [no big deal] to [f-ing end of the world, man, game over] and thus we cautiously recommend [you send us more research funding so we can keep doing our cushy, sit on our asses 3 hours of actual "work" a day jobs for another year].

Media first reports: Guy with a real big brain reports world MIGHT be doomed, which in subsequent reports slides in to: "World is doomed, says everyone with a brain."

Then activist groups like COVID ACT NOW start in with truly bunk pseudo-science panic and the media spit that right into cultural bloodstream.

Dem pols (and RINOs), pick it up and run with it ... and the next week you get 3.2 Million new jobless claims.

Tomorrow, the scientists, media, and pols will be, "Well, we never said the worst case scenario would definitely happen, just that it might, so we need to do [whatever it was we already wanted to do for existing reasons, like, for example, talk down and/or destroy the economy so Trump would lose re-election].

250 Since I personally haven't requested anyone stay home, I guess I'm okay. But my state, WA state, was one of the ones hit hard by this, mainly due to a cluster in a nursing home. And because they didn't really do anything to restrict movement, it's spread across the state. The states and businesses that are shutting down are doing it so they won't be sued, as far as I can tell.

Company I work for had a field tech exposed to the virus. The customer didn't bother to tell anyone he'd been exposed to it, until the tech knocked on his door. The tech, with a new baby, did not go in and self isolated. Would you prefer that he just continue to do his regular job and possibly spread the virus? Because of this incident, none of our techs are going into residences right now.

And yes, I do remember Harry Truman. I've talked to lots of folks about where they were and what happened.

305 I'm sticking with this whole thing being a Chinese purge of the dependent class (old people that aren't productive). About 8 months ago China telegraphed it by adding penalties to anyone in China carrying a low credit score. It showed where their focus was.

Also, China dropped about 21 Million people from the cell phone roles over the last 3 months (form your own conclusions on where these people went all of a sudden) Communists are outright brutal...and this is exactly in their wheelhouse. It had the added benefit of tanking the economy in the West and allowing China to open new markets on medical equipment. They outright raped Spain in that regard. They are currently positioning themselves to gain added control of the US economy.

Call it tin foil hat stuff if you like. But, the timing was all too convenient. BTW, what happened to that respected infectious disease expert from India who stated unequivocally that (in his opinion) the structure of the virus was partially engineered and not natural in occurrence? He published that opinion back in December and hasn't said anything since.

Right up there with Kathy Griffins histrionics allegedly tweeted from a CIVID019 emergency room.

As you see various celebrities slam Trump or engage in other social media activism over this, remember the Decency Collective, which is a:

. . . a private room made for progressive celebrities and activists to communicate and work in tandem to spread messages online. It's a growing tactic on the left, designed to piggyback on a social media coordination strategy employed successfully on the right and intended to harness the power of Hollywood stars and high-profile activists who already lean Democratic. A sort of cabal of #Resistance influencers, if you will.

. . .Under its umbrella are dozens of private Twitter direct message rooms organized around specific issues, geographies, and events where left-leaning influencers gather.

Among the names I noticed of those involved are many that people might recognize: Gabrielle Union, Alyssa Milano, Jon Cryer, Sarah Silverman, Ben Stiller, Tom Colicchio, Jason Long, Mark Ruffalo, Adrian Grenier, Akilah Hughes, Piper Perabo, W. Kamau Bell, Ady Barkan, Jason Kander. Representatives from the presidential campaigns of Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, among others, are in the mix as well.

That's from Vox, whose founder, Ezra Klein was also the guy who created JournoList.

364 "were we really in a stock bubble in January? Or was the US economy fundamentally sound?
" Posted by: Regular joe

It could be both, imo. Stocks way overvalued, but jobs returning to USA, better jobs. But so much of America is tied to the wealth created by asset inflation ... and cheap costs in (slaves/pollution) China ... that returning industry may depress some "efficiencies" ... But they were not real efficiencies ... slaves, pollution, supporting an enemy ... those are ways to cut costs, but they also cut out liberty.

But exactly what was going on in credit markets is over my head ... I think Bander's comment yesterday about "it's worse than 2008" is correct, but it is worse in a different way. Banks are much more solvent, corporations were rising on stock buybacks and debt ... now we are (illegally?) buying corporate and municipal debt ... kinda astounding move toward socialism ... or just call it partial communism, government owning business.

Plenty of gold bulls pushing the end times scenario ... but MMT might work for years ... no one wants the huge monetary bubble to pop ... but many say it has to pop. idk

since then, he's remained unemployed, and all he does is sit around and bitch about how Trump voters are all big doody heads.

Awesome. So a vote for Biden is a vote for:
- Open borders (Trump opposes it)
- Socialized medicine (Trump opposes it)
- Increased regulation (Trump is a deregulator)
- Increased taxes (Trump is a tax-cutter)
- Reduction in the trades (Trump is a trades booster)
- Greater dependence on foreign powers like China (Trump wants industry back home)
- Greater integration with global organizations (Trump is a nationalist)

This is pretty easy. I can see it clearly now. Vote Biden, everyone. He's finally uttered a cogent policy position. And it's a hum-dinger.

506 Had to cancel a trip in late March to a very popular tourist destination due to the panic and flights being canceled, etc.

Now I'm looking at Airbnb options available for the eact same place but in late May.

OMG.

All the prices are about HALF what they were in March, and MUCH BETTER places are now available.

Before. I settled for a small-but-decent Airbnb for $110/night.

Now, I can get a deluxe 3-bedroom entire house for $60/night, in a better neighborhood.

I am really really tempted to "throw the dice" and assume that the travel restrictions will be lifted by May, and reserve one of these great Airbnb places NOW. If I wait iuntlt he green light is given, there will be a mad rush to get all the good rentals and they'll be snapped up really really fast.

Should I do it?

The downside would be: If I reserve the Airbnb now, but it turns out that I CAN'T travel in late May, then I'll have to cancel and possibly lose some $$$, maybe 5%-10% of the cost.

Gamble?

Here's a guy, President Trump, who managed a multi-billion dollar business and is used to working with managers who give him the data so he can make a decision.

Yet, the MSM threw President Trump in that briar patch any way.

693 Trump is trying to get US citizens to understand that they are in charge via elections. The courts will back off (or they are supposed to, anyway) if the proper remedy is a "political" one, but the left is depleting the power of the vote by imposing laws at the federal level, so that citizens have no voice. (common core; the new green deal)The governors are supposed to be accountable to the voters, and this was a very good demonstration.
