Trump Reaches 50% Approval, Highest Since 2018, in Hill-HarrisX Poll

What doesn't corona me makes me stronger.

While The Hill doesn’t go into speculating as to why Trump’s approval rating is so high, and chooses instead to focus on the criticisms he’s receiving, we can accurately guess why Trump’s support is rising.

The poll was conducted on March 22-23, around the same time Democrats struck down the bipartisan stimulus package that would have propped up business and American workers. This undoubtedly soured a lot of people against the Democrats, especially as Trump is giving daily press briefings promoting the idea of the bill and giving Americans a view of light at the end of the tunnel.

And that's why the intensely partisan, Chinese Communist owned-and-operated, corporate media is embargoing those press conferences now.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average flew +1,100 points, on both positive earnings reports and news that a Chinese Flu recovery bill had been agreed to.

19 Americans who generally have their views manipulated by the MSM are seeing Trump at press conferences on a daily basis. He's been portrayed by the media as a crazy person, but the citizens see him at these press conferences handling questions from yelling reporters calmly.

Compare Trump's demeanor with Biden's getting angry with, and pointing his finger at the autoworker.

Hoyer letter to Hse mbrs: The Senate has announced that they have reached an agreement. The Senate is continuing to work on writing the agreement into legislative text. House Democrats are being briefed today on a series of conference calls.

Hoyer to Hse mbrs: Before we can determine when and how the House will consider this legislation, we must have the final legislative text and clear direction on when the Senate will vote. I remain committed to giving House Members 24 hours' notice before the House acts.

Also: It appears the $25M for the Kennedy center and $75M for CPB-NPR remain in the bill.

The compromised bill provides checks of $1,200 to individuals and $500 to children. Unlike previous House versions, there are no capped on the number of child that qualify. But it's children as defined by the child tax credit.

Sens Graham/Sasse/ScottSC: A massive drafting error in the current version of the coronavirus relief legislation could have devastating consequences: Unless this bill is fixed, there is a strong incentive for employees to be laid off instead of going to work.

Sens Graham/ScottSC/Sasse want Senate bill fixed: If the federal government accidentally incentivizes layoffs, we risk life-threatening shortages in sectors where doctors, nurses, and pharmacists are trying to care for the sick

Sens Graham/Sasse/ScottSC: We must sadly oppose the fast-tracking of this bill until this text is addressed, or the Department of Labor issues regulatory guidance that no American would earn more by not working than by working.

Scalise: Pelosi's efforts to derail this bill with unrelated socialist policy wasted critical days and did an untold amount of damage to our economy and the livelihood of families, but fortunately we were able to fight back the partisan policy

Scalise: In this historic moment, the House must rise above partisanship and move to immediately take up the CARES Act. The American people are counting on us for quick, decisive action, and I'm confident we'll come together at this time and rise to meet this challenge.

273 If you guys haven't seen this yet, it's pretty great:

Not political, not humor not taking sides -- a guy built a fascinting "epidemic simulator" javascript app on this page, along with detail explanations, that allows people to adjust the various parameters of any infectious disease scenario, and then you can watch it play out in a very accurate (schematized) simulation of an epidemic:

https://www.meltingasphalt.com/interactive/outbreak/

If you want to skip all the steps and explanation, the best/.most complete simulator is about 2/3s of the way down, with the four sliders and the big grid:

Fatality rate 3%
Encounters per day 10
Travel radius 5
Transmission rate 0.3

Play with that one for a while. Totally addictive!

And it reveals a fascinating thing: Even the SLIGHTEST change in one of more of the parameters can produce vastly different outcomes.

And since we do not know what these parameters are for Covid-19, this proves that ANYBODY who predicts ANYTHING about this outbreak is just making up lies to get facetime on TV. No one know anything.

Anyway, this can be the most guilt-free video game you've ever played, because it's relevant to current events.

Not even those at the 0$ side because that's the way it is and will always be. People are paid to not work.

It's that the government separated us into group A: takers and group B: fatted calf to feed off of. It pisses off group B and makes group A defensive. It creates another tribal affiliation to pander to. I don't hate people in either group. I hate that system.

They are issued regardless of immigration status, because both resident and nonresident aliens may have a U.S. filing or reporting requirement under the Internal Revenue Code.

Here's the way I figure it:

Anyone who has cold/flu symptoms is flipping shit and running to the hospitals. Most of them will test negative for Coronavirus, and those who do will mostly recover without need for Intensive Care.

If you fall into the small category who need the ICU, they'd probably front-run it to you, and deny it to others given the risk/uncertainty associated with the unproven trial med.

Why should they place themselves into potential legal/ethical exposure to administer drugs to someone who likely won't need them?

We are trillions in debt. China does not own most of it. They own about $1.1 trillion of it (plus probably another few hundred billion through proxies). Japan owns the most among foreign powers.

Most of it overall is owed internally, and vast amounts of it is held by the Federal Reserve (which remits the interest coupon back to the Treasury).

he mentioned "refinancing the debt" once as a candidate ... Maria B's ears perked up, seemingly thinking that was a viable solution. But Trump's thinking may have evolved ... since MMT can issue money without debt. And if we are going so crazy on debt in any case ... why pay interest?

There are other things involved, like, as the world's reserve currency, there is demand for dollars. And as long as people finance our profligate spending for 1-2% ... we can keep flooding the world and propping up America.

too complex for me .. the smartest guys seem to think we are still the strongest of all the fiat currencies ... everyone is printing, so we are still king of the hill. But now ...this liquidity thing ... idk, we need to get the dollars out there for everyone ... China needs dollars, so do others

(Japan went MMT long ago, so did we to a lesser degree ... but no one wants to collapse the whole system ... so they will throw in more trillions of QE ... maybe it goes on for years,no one knows)

454 Isolation of seniors is obvious common sense in this circumstance and will probably persist in some form for a time after other restrictions/advisories are lifted. Kind of the easiest/most obvious move of all.

Trump/Patton would have made zero difference in late WWII. Nobody seems to recall the actual manpower and political situation of the time, which would not have accommodated any tiny bit of the fantasies about eastern Europe. There was a "manpower crisis" that led to a doubling of the draft take in March '45 - it was all about Japan at that point. And the politix make this talk really silly - even finishing off Japan was sweating the leadership and cracks were appearing.

And Hadrian's probably right, the single most consequential error (and not one purely visible in hindsight, either) was the delayed clearing of the Scheldt estuary/approaches to Antwerp, which may well have prevented a much quicker western Allied break-in to Germany.

My theory is that 3 or more bumper stickers on car means that the driver is mentally ill.

536 "This has me more concerned than I have been up to this point. She's restricting our access."

My son, who is a cop, says he does not want to visit for a while since he is on the front lines and in contact with a lot of people of all types. I am healthy but an "at risk" person due to age over 65, and some pre-existing conditions (which are well controlled).

I hate it and miss him but I fully understand it.

537 Okay, thanks for the answers on the China debt question, guys. Much appreciated!

I still don't understand it fully, but I guess now that I have a lot of home alone time on my hands, I can read up and educate myself better on our economy and how the debt works.

539 I'm trying to imagine watching professional baseball on TV with nobody in the stands cheering.

Welcome to the Atlanta Braves in the mid-70s.

Welcome to the money pit known as the Florida Marlins for most of the past decade. I'll let Nurse comment about the Mariners.

Unless they are USMC, gun clubs, NRA, etc. Then the people are mentally very healthy.

545 I follow some pretty random people on twitter, including a guy who has funny things to say about college football. He retweeted a video of Trump edging away from Dr. Brix (? the lady who is at his press conferences) when she said she had a low fever over the weekend, and in the comments, most people thought it was hysterical. Then a woman who appears to be black (from her profile photo) said something about Trump is horrible and must be removed from office. 125 people (so far), mostly black, DRAGGED HER. Comments ranged from "SHUT UP" to "I'm a Democrat but this is hysterical" to "Best president of my life." I was floored.
