Michigan Police Seize "The Ancient Sword of the Meth King"

So it's not just a myth!!!

The Bath Township Police Department posted a Facebook photo this week of a cache of weapons -- including the insane looking sword -- and noted jokingly, "*While You Were Sleeping* In the early morning of Jan 27, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. A subsequent search located a very odd combination of illegally possessed weapons as well as methamphetamine."

The post was hashtagged with #ObviouslyAHiPoint #LordOfTheRingsMeetsJohnWick and #AncientSwordOfTheMethKing.

There's a rural area near me that had been a nice, farm community. I had an aunt and uncle who had a farm there. 48 I still say Hi-Point firearms get a bad rap. A buddy of mine owns their .45 ACP pistol that he keeps in his trunk just because. He let me shoot it at the range. The Hi-Point has that clunky brick feel common to inexpensive pistols but it was reasonably accurate and--according to him--had never malfunctioned after thousands of rounds. When it comes to guns meant for personal protection, nothing (to me) is more important than reliability.

"It turns out the weapon is from the hit Japanese anime "Bleach," which eagle-eyed fans pointed out. It belongs to a character named Renji Abarai. Replicas can be bought online at Heavenly Swords for a mere $58.99."

If the sword costs $58.99, then you can guarantee it's made out of pot metal and likely would just snap in half in any sort of actual meth-crazed sword battle.

110 96 Before everyone laughs I must confess that I own a Hi-Point 4595, which is their .45 caliber carbine. I wanted a cheap PCC just for fun and so far it's been reliable and accurate once I adjusted the sights which were badly misaligned out of the box. Of course judging by the quality of metal in the action when it fails it will be done and likely not worth fixing. Like I said, it's just a range toy for me and nothing I would want to have to stake my life on, I have other guns for that. Like a fat chick it's been fun as long nobody I know sees me at the range with it.
Posted by: Guzalot at March 09, 2020 01:15 PM (prSvo)

I give Hi Points a lot of crap, but their carbines are actually good. Period.

The pistols....well, they work, mostly. And they're cheap.

But this is a golden age of cheap, GOOD pistols and I just can't justify a Hi Point pistol to 99.9999% of gun buyers.

111 I always love weapons designed to make things MORE DEAD. I have a gun. Guns with Big Magazines, Hollow Points and Magnum Rounds make things MORE DEAD. I hunt with a Crossbow. Evidently my standard 370fps bolts only pass through any deer I hit leaving a 2.5" broadhead cut, so manufacturers are making a big increase in profits by introducing newer models that shoot bolts at 470+ fps. Because...MOAR DEAD!

Yes, about 90% or foolish and for teenage girls, but the other 10% are basically just as good as any animated high-budget western film for grown-ups. Don't think of them as "cartoons," but as animated graphic novels. Most of the good ones for grownups are either film-noir-y or sci-fi-y.

"Bleach, however, is not one of the good ones.

I've begun to think that Biden's mental state and the obvious play of keeping him out of the spotlight is going to cost Democrats as much in down ballot races as having an energetic lunatic like Bernie would have.

You get energy and volunteers from your candidate. If your candidate never shows up, then the most motivated voters are less motivated to go out and knock on doors.

I suspect this is one reason Republicans kept the House in 2016. Hillary had the same problem.

I've got one that's a daily carry and I use a tuckable Remora with the belt clip. It allows you to choose the angle you carry in, which is nice, and you can wear it under a tucked-in shirt if that sort of thing is a need. The sticky material works, but I don't trust it to be my only retention.

I'd buy it again if I had to.

Posted by: garrett at March 09, 2020 01:31 PM (RaKqj)

Put it this way. When you think of Anime, you are thinking of a very specific kind of anime. The kind of anime that appeals to twelve year old boys in the same way that action movies appeal to twelve year old boys. But you don't think "why do adults watch movies, they're just a bunch of giant robots exploding?" You realize that action movies are a subset of movies and that movies tell a very wide range of stories.

Anime is the same way. This particular anime is definitely a 12 year old boy anime, but there is plenty of anime that is aimed at an older audience that isn't just explosions and fight scenes. In Japan, animation isn't seen as a "kids medium" in the way that it is in the west.

Unlike most Western Animation, in Japan animated stuff is used to tell all sorts of stories. It skews 'younger' but there are also some very grown up stories that get made there. (Grave of the Fireflies comes to mind)

The 'big eye, small mouth' esthetic borrowed from Disney takes some getting used to.

Not all anime uses that trope, though. Some have fairly realistic looking people.

That's the thing about the genre, it is hard to generalize about, there's a lot of diversity in it.

There isn't just one style of anime. It's as varied as animation from the US or anywhere else in the world. One can't generalize and say that "all" anime is this way or that way. There is every imaginable style, every imaginable level of sophistication. "Anime" is merely the Japanese word for "animation." One might say that "Toy Story" is anime or "Waking Life" is anime.

434 Big Eyes Small Mouth still resonates because that is how a lot of older anime was drawn because eyes are expressive and it makes the conveying of emotions a lot easier.

With the wide spread use of computers for animation, cost coming down, and all that; we are seeing more realistic faces more often than not. And also more realistic expressions on those faces.

Posted by: Sooner at March 09, 2020 01:46 PM (Fs5vw)

I disagree. And I do see a problem with going on a cruise and expecting, demanding, medical evacuation. How many other floating incubators are out there now. The one in Oakland, the one in Singapore, the one in Florida. Fortunately the governments of the US and Canada are warning people to stop this madness. If you want to risk it, risk it, but enough with wasting military bases for quarantines and hospitalizing people who could not put off vacationing.

438 ..Great. They're letting that damn cruise ship dock in Oakland. Too close to my neighborhood.

Yeah, you gotta feel some wee bit of mercy for all those poor cruise ship passengers.

Now they're gonna be exposed to blights like Oakland Fever, and worse, they're Fresh out of Stockton.

439 I was watching a doc on HBO about the Monopoly McDonalds game that ended up having players find a way to cheat on it. It's a good series, but the amount of resources the FBI spent "making" this case was jaw dropping. Over a fucking sweepstakes.

Apparently that FEEB agent was supposed to be working on Medicare/Medicaid fraud, but decided that wasn't sexy enough. So instead, he got a whole bunch of FEEB agents wrapped up in the Micky D's Monopoly game investigation.

In my opinion, he should have stuck to his assignment. It probably would have had a better impact.
