As I've said before, I really wanted Romney to turn to Obama in the debate and say, "Mr. President, you've added $X trillion [whatever it then was] to the national debt. I have one question for you: how many zeroes are there in one trillion?"
In my experience, few - make that VERY few - people know the correct answer. Most people effectively count like crows: one, two, three, many. So talking about trillions of dollars means bupkis to them. So here's a meaningful comparison: we would have to spend ~$1.4 million per day since the birth of Christ to come up with ONE trillion dollars. There's actually some nuance there; the case wasn't explicitly about prosecuting illegals for identity theft, as identity theft *is* a crime. ATC can explain with the puppets, I believe.
_________________ It wasn't really that much nuance. It was a pre-emption case. The illegal alien camp was arguing that the states (in this particular case, Kansas) can't prosecute illegal aliens for the use of stolen identity information (like Social Security numbers) that they submit when they apply for jobs, because there is a federal immigration law that says that the information contained in federal employment eligibility forms (I-9's) can't be used for state prosecutions, and the information on I-9's is the same information (e.g., SS numbers) that illegals submit when they fill out job applications in the states. So basically the argument was that only the feds can prosecute illegal aliens for identity theft, because the states are pre-empted from doing so. By a 5-4 vote, the SCOTUS said no to the argument. So states are free to prosecute illegal aliens for identity theft under state law. Posted by: TrivialPursuer at March 06, 2020 12:30 PM (k4dH2) 318

I think that could cut either way. Could be that the problem with Trump/Biden debate is if Biden comes off looking like corn-toed sometimes a notion of you know, the, you know, stick it in the giggy-hole and break it off, it will cause voters to be afraid that when Joe claims he doesn't want to sleep with the light on because it could tip over and burn the country down, that he means it. Trump ad (with apologies to ad man Hal Riney):
"There is a bear in the woods. For some people, the bear is easy to see. Others sandalwood apple sandwich. Some people say the bear is tame, c'mon, that guy, giggety, we're gonna hop hop hop over to the custard funhole. Others say its vicious and dangerous. Since no one can really be sure who's right, isn't it smart to be as strong as the bear? Even if there is a three-fingered bologna pitcher delivery system?" There's nothing wrong with making a mistake once in a while, everyone does it. You gotta be ready to face mockery and dismissal when you do it.

You can say "500 million div. by 327 million is 1 million"... fine. Whoops. Whoopsie! it's dwelling on that, using it as an underpinning for your "discussion", using it as the cudgel for the two smug talentless shitbirds to sit there preening in front of each other over how wonderful they are and how ignorant and unbelievable the "Others" are... And never for a second thinking, "Wait, that doesn't sound right..." It "sounded right" because they wanted it to sound right. It served their immediate purposes and desires for it to "sound right". It is exactly how their magical brains approach literally every single topic they think about. Doesn't matter how nonsensical it is, if they want it to be true, they'll believe it.
