Who we are
The Gravel Institute was founded in 2019 to carry on the life's work of former U.S Senator Mike Gravel in fighting for global peace and democracy. Its mission is to promote bold and forward-looking ideas about a more peaceful and egalitarian world, and to build a robust movement of young people to win it. ******* So you wanna believe that horses ass ? Just read the Federalist piece on media treatment of Trump.
One thing which was missing was NPR. I listened to it for first time in 25 years a few days ago, and a couple times since. They spent about 5 minutes on one show talking about how "trump called the virus a hoax" and what kind of idiot would think a virus that is killing thousands could be a hoax, and how trump hates science and etc. etc. The show was a full hour of anti-trump bashing disguised as coverage of the Wuhan cough. We have reached third tier of propaganda. First tier is people who say things they know are false, but they say it to hurt opponents. Second tier is people saying things they are unsure of because they hear two sides, but they know their side is good, and other side is evil, so they keep telling us that. They don't have doubts, but they know it is more complicated than what they say. Third tier is people who really believe the other side is evil because that is all they ever heard. They only know the propaganda as history, and so they are the true believers. Usually this takes 3 generations to achieve but the left has done it in three years with Trump. I also listened a few nights ago and heard the bernie speech 3 times! in about 2 hours. They even cut away from Trump presser after 5 minutes to continue bernie coverage. The bernie speech is amazing though. It is him making inane statements like reading instructions for building an Ikea shelf. "We will have administration which is not corrput" (pause for NPC whooping) "We will have administration that believes in science" (pause for NPC whooping) "we will have administration that does not destroy constitution"...... His speech is striking for having no wit, no insight, no intelligence, no passion, no anything but rote statements of little or no connection to reality. He really is a marxist snake oil salesman. BLM idiots beat drums and banged on the front door of LA County DA Jackie Lacey's home at 5:30am... and were confronted by a gun when the door opened. https://tinyurl.com/t37p5g9 Lacey's up for reelection tomorrow, and her chief opponent is a guy by the name of George Gascon. Gascon was previously serving as San Mateo's (San Francisco) interim DA (after the previous one - Kamela Harris, iirc - left for another office). He was so bad at his job that both the mayor and police chief of San Francisco have openly endorsed Lacey. Even though Lacey's both a Democrat and the incumbent, the California Democratic Party has endorsed Gascon, as have a number of other hard left groups. He's also apparently backed by Soros funds. Unfortunately, since brandishing a gun (without firing at someone) is illegal in California, there's a chance that Lacey's husband will face charges for the incident. Back then, he would admit that JFK said he would vote for Nixon before any of the other Democrats. Rush even let him guest host. Honestly, I blame the Clinton/Obama Syndicate. "When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control."--Theodore Dalrymple This is why Matthews and the whole Party keeps spiraling downward, and are now poised to nominate a Commie or a senile Grifter. as for that stupid comment "I would have owned you" - most Irish immigrants in the mid 1800s owned little more than an old pair of pants. And many Irish before them were indentured so WERE owned. My English ancestors were mostly Tories, I think, so were at least not up for the whole starvation thing. Though we might've sent some Paddies to Barbados and Virginia. The idea that Irish people were enslaved in any way in the Americas is hotly disputed by many professional historians. I never heard of this subject until last year and have no axe to grind or heritage to protect here. But the subject is hotly contested by historians, and most say it never happened. Indentured servants in the Americas were not only Irish for sure. And slavery does not equal indentured servitude. It was someone paying off a debt, mainly the cost of another bringing them to the New World. Posted by: Quint at March 02, 2020 08:53 PM (n13/j) 381

as for that stupid comment "I would have owned you" - most Irish
immigrants in the mid 1800s owned little more than an old pair of pants. And many Irish before them were indentured so WERE owned. My English ancestors were mostly Tories, I think, so were at least not up for the whole starvation thing. Though we might've sent some Paddies to Barbados and Virginia. ---------- my response here. Sorry that I scewed that up. The idea that Irish people were enslaved in any way in the Americas is hotly disputed by many professional historians. I never heard of this subject until last year and have no axe to grind or heritage to protect here. But the subject is hotly contested by historians, and most say it never happened. Irish for sure. And slavery does not equal indentured servitude. It was someone paying off a debt, mainly the cost of another bringing them to the New World. " I've seen records that indicate the indentured servants had shorter life expectancies largely because there was every incentive to milk the last drop of labor out of them before the contract expired. Obviously it wasn't as bad as slavery but still. Posted by: Trump poisoned my cat at March 02, 2020 08:56 PM (puu6v) for sure it was a tough life. Even traveling over hear had a lot of risks before the 1800s. And this is not my wheel house. I mainly can talk about battles and such and still not as well as others. But I recall people spelling out the clear differences between slaves and indentured servants. The ownership was the key. Yup. I think it was Charles Murray who said that the remarkable thing about Obama was that he could do such a convincing job of imitating academic intellectuals, that he could convince them that he was one of them.
Yeah because what passes as "intellectual" these days is memorized phrases and certain artificial phraseology. An intellectual from 100 years ago, or hell even 50 would blow the out of the water quoting classic literature, lines in several languages, and completely extemporaneous talks on any subject. These people are sophists, faux intellectuals. There's a reason men like Christopher Hitchens stood out so much: he was the real deal. The Union had deployed badly and were crushed by Longstreet's attack. Reserves were on the way, but Hancock needed those 15 minutes to plug a huge gap right where Pickett charged on day three. He told the regiment to charge a brigade of Rebels - Cadmus Willcox's Brigade - and take their flags. They outnumbered the 1st Minn 5 to 1 or so. They tried. I got the reason people liked Perot: he was an outsider, Bush was annoying and never wanted Reagan's policies or ideas, and people were kind of tired of career politicians already at that point.
I love John Wayne, but his movies after... say Sons of Katie Elder (as his health declined) are hard to watch. I liked him still in his later films but he wasn't the vital, dominating force he used to be in movies. But I mean, many of Wayne's best films were after Sons of Katie Elder: El Dorado, Big Jake, True Grit, The Cowboys, The Shootist, etc Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 02, 2020 10:00 PM (KZzsI) 715

Horde, I gots me a question ta ask. I'm in need of an improvement in my career and earning situation. Problem is, my skillset is...dubious and eclectic. As such I'm having problems finding opportunities I can fit into that would leave me any better off than I currently am. It occurs to me, given my particulars, I simply may not know how the fuck to properly and effectively market what I have to offer.
Therefore, the question I have: Who would you recommend I talk to in order to figure out where to go from here? My own ability to work this out is clearly deficient, so I need someone who could help me work though my options. And no "get more training" isn't an answer. Been there, done that, still paying it off, it helped for bupkiss. I'm trying to figure out what I can do with what I've already got.

Posted by: Brother Cavil Tim at March 02, 2020 10:05 PM (CUU+W) Find someone who can put together a proper resume for you. A proper resume is not one that highlights what you can do, but one that highlights all the keywords that appear in the job for which you are applying. There will be a machine reading your resume, so don't worry that it might look silly. As long as the machine passes you on to the hiring manager, the hard part is over. Then get in front of a hiring manager and sell yourself. Posted by: BurtTC at March 02, 2020 10:09 PM (hku12) 747

@701 There was a movie called SOB. All I know of it is that it was the one where Julie Andrews had a topless scene. I'll just bet those were all the stars.
I guess I "saw right through" the Perot project, but I just do not get people mocking Stockdale. There was nothing "nutty" about him, and if you pay attention -- WHICH WE CANNOT -- to what he said in his TV appearances, instead of the comedy acts imitating them, he wasn't even "distracted." He got his advanced degree after he'd recovered from his imprisonment, was a high-level instructor at the Academy for years, wrote several complex books on a difficult subject -- and basically did all the stuff in Hanoi that McCain wanted credit for doing. There was no chance of him being elected, of course, but I've thought of him all these years as one of the greatest men to ever be involved in presidential politics.
