The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

It matters not to me as a judge whether Congress embraces or disapproves of the administration's actions, but it is time for a feckless Congress to come to the table and grapple with these issues. Don't leave the table and expect us to clean up.Judge Jay Bybee

Quote II

“The verdict is a blow to small firms who need greater regional and global connectivity, as well as more opportunities to export.” Mike Cherry, Federation of Small Businesses

Quote III

“People live in fear, terrified of that which they do not understand. [Bailey has] been shooting since she was 5 years old. She got her first deer with this weapon at 9. She carries it responsibly. She knows how not to put her finger on the trigger. We live in fear in a society that is fed fear on a daily basis… When they come to Idaho, they should be able to carry concealed, because they carry responsibly. They’re law-abiding citizens. It’s the criminal we have to worry about.” Charles Nielsen

Quote IV

"I'm the same age as Mark Zuckerberg and I have dark moments where I think, 'I want to be just as rich as Mark Zuckerberg and I want to compete with him to be on the Forbes list. And I want to be on the cover of Time magazine, making lots of money.' All these greedy things are tempting."

"It's not like it's easy to just turn down. But my life is so much better." Dan Price

Quote V

The chickens of globalization are coming home to roost.Patrick J. Buchanan

Quote VI

I never met the man, but when I heard him speak it seemed like I had known him forever. A good man taken too soon from us. RIP Andrew.

Legitimate safety concerns? Or just more government interference with our lives?

More than 34,000 people have deluged the Federal Aviation Administration with comments over a proposed regulation that would require almost every drone in the sky to broadcast its location over the Internet at all times. The comments are overwhelmingly negative, with thousands of hobbyists warning that the rules would impose huge new costs on those who simply wanted to continue flying model airplanes, home-built drones, or other personally owned devices.

"These regulations could kill a hobby I love," wrote Virginian Irby Allen Jr. in a comment last week. "RC aviation has brought my family together and if these regulations are enacted we will no longer be able to fly nor be able to afford the hobby."

The new regulations probably wouldn't kill the hobby of flying radio-controlled airplanes outright, but it could do a lot of damage. Owners of existing drones and model airplanes would face new restrictions on when and where they could be used. The regulations could effectively destroy the market for kit aircraft and custom-designed drones by shifting large financial and paperwork burdens on the shoulders of consumers.

"I think it's going to be harmful to the community and harmful to the growth of the UAS industry," said Greg Reverdiau, co-founder of the Pilot Institute, in a Friday phone interview. He wrote a point-by-point critique of the FAA proposal that has circulated widely among aviation hobbyists.

CPAC was a hoot at times.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD — Jesse Kelly, senior contributor to The Federalist, hosted a parody show at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), using dark humor to mock the idea of a Bernie Sanders win and a socialist transformation of America.

"Hello and welcome to the Socialist News Network. I'm Jesse Kelly, my preferred pronouns are 'they,' 'them,' 'her,' 'him,' and 'it.' While 150 million Americans have lost their health insurance after Congress passed the president's Medicare for All bill, Democrats are confident the plan will end in huge savings after all those people finally die," Kelly quipped.

He painted a dystopian future that was nonetheless hilarious, with Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) as a Supreme Court justice and the impeachment "whistleblower" choosing Schiff as the best man at his wedding and godfather of his child. Schiff became the 27th member of the Supreme Court.

Carbon offsets! I call Bull Shit!

Bernie Sanders is on the go all the time -- which seems to have given him a momentary case of a campaign brain fart as he accidentally boarded the wrong jet.

The Democratic front-runner was spotted Saturday making his way off of a private Gulfstream between campaign stops in South Carolina and Massachusetts -- the latter being where he held a rally at Boston Common ahead of Super Tuesday.

Fact is ... the S.C. primary looks like it's gonna go to Joe Biden, as he's well ahead of everyone else in the latest polls. Looks like Bernie's cutting his losses and moving on.

As for this little mix-up here, it's kinda funny. Bernie's been flying all over the country for different campaign events -- so the guy's definitely busy and has a preoccupied mind at the moment. Mistakes like this (getting on the wrong Gulfstream) are bound to happen.

Angers are flaring on the Trump approach to the Corona virus.

Rep. John Garamendi of California warned of a “serious altercation” if President Donald Trump’s son made similar remarks in his presence, telling MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson it was “totally outrageous.”

“When you look at the discussion around coronavirus as it exists in the politics sphere, the President’s son, Donald Trump Jr., was on this morning,” Jackson said, “and suggested or said outright that Democrats are taking a pandemic seemingly hoping, and I’m, quoting, ‘it comes here to kill millions of people so it can end the President’s streak of winning.’ He called that a ‘new level of sickness.'”

“He should not be near me when he says that,” Garamendi responded.

Why is it only the left that can threaten violence?

Call me a prude but good f*cking grief. End Times: Drag Queen Giving Lap Dance to Little Girl Goes Viral

Matt Walsh is taking some heat for linking libertarian conservatism to the decline of Western culture, but is he wrong? The libertarians I know have zero concern for the morality of our nation. Some that I know don't believe in any age of consent, nor do they believe pornography is harmful. If libertarian conservatives are against this they should loudly proclaim it and help us stop it immediately. Social conservatives have been sounding the warning bell for years that ignoring cultural decay will bring us into a hell we never imagined. I think we are here.

This little girl is being traumatized by adults who should know better. The "dancing" this drag queen is doing with his bottom hanging out of his shorts is undeniably sexual. The child is sitting in the center of the room as the focus of this display just like any bachelor would sit for a lap dance from a stripper. Her face is a mix of confusion and discomfort while a woman, who I assume is the creature who birthed her, is standing next to her wiggling and giggling while she allows her child to be enticed by a scantily clad man.

Is there any hill that Conservatism, Inc. thinks that is worth fighting arguing for?

All good things must come to an end. Say goodbye to the Dodge Grand Caravan.

The van loved by film crews and budget-conscious soccer moms everywhere is about to go the way of the dinosaur. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced that production of the Dodge Grand Caravan will stop in late May, marking the end of the minivan’s 35-year run.

The writing has been on the wall for years now. As the Chrysler Pacifica got all of the latest safety tech, sleek styling, and a modern interior, the Dodge was left to languish in a purgatory of middling options packages and an outdated design.

In its later years, the Grand Caravan became a shell of its former self. When Chrysler exhumed the Pacifica nameplate for its minivan in 2017, the Grand Caravan began its slow descent into redundancy. The Pacifica not only got all of the latest tech and comfort features, but it also got fresh styling—much more palatable than the late-2000s chic that the Dodge van carries.

The ONT is always looking for youTM. Taters don't belong up your bunghole.

When introducing a potato into the alimentary canal, it is essential to use the correct orifice, as it can be processed through only one direction.

Nonetheless, doctors are concerned that some people may be using potatoes anally as a home remedy for hemorrhoids, an affliction also known as piles. Wales Online reports:

CNN's Brian "Tatter" Stelter: Multiple choice:
[ ]Stud?
[ ]Pantie sniffer?
[ ]Super-f*cking-duper journalist?

Is this a conflict of interest, because it sort of feels like a conflict of interest.

CNN’s Brian Stelter and Olivier Darcy reportedly partied with disgrace former Congresswoman Katie Hill recently. This comes on the heels of Stelter giving a sympathetic interview to Hill in which he tried to spin her self-imposed scandal as a “right-wing” attack. RedState’s own Jennifer Van Laar originally broke the story last year.

The times they have changed. My Mother never would have dreamed of working with me let alone doing something this risky.

John Strand breaks into things for a living. As a penetration tester, he gets hired by organizations to attack their defenses, helping reveal weaknesses before actual bad guys find them. Normally, Strand embarks on these missions himself, or deploys one of his experienced colleagues at Black Hills Information Security. But in July 2014, prepping for a pen test of a South Dakota correctional facility, he took a decidedly different tack. He sent his mom.

In fairness, it was Rita Strand's idea. Then 58, she had signed on as chief financial officer of Black Hills the previous year after three decades in the food service industry. She was confident, given that professional experience, that she could pose as a state health inspector to gain access to the prison. All it would take was a fake badge and the right patter.

"She approached me one day, and said 'You know, I want to break in somewhere," says Strand, who is sharing the experience this week at the RSA cybersecurity conference in San Francisco. "And it's my mom, so what am I supposed to say?"

Well, that was really a shitty thing to do. And because of that we have a Genius Award Winner.

FEBRUARY 27--A Florida Man was arrested yesterday on a felony battery charge after allegedly dumping a bucket of cow manure over the head of a victim, police report.

According to a complaint affidavit, Jose Ramirez-Callejas, 47, attacked the victim at a dairy farm in Crystal Springs, a community about 30 miles north of Tampa. The complaint does not indicate whether Ramirez-Callejas or the victim work at Spoto’s Palm River Dairy.

Investigators allege that Ramirez-Callejas “scooped the cow manure into the bucket and dumped it over the victim’s head” early Wednesday afternoon.

33 The memorial went fine. Two of the wooden boat guys came from Eugene and a local one made it. Several of my stepson's friends came. I made connection with one of those friends that will help with cleanup. (And I've been told a couple more friends will help). Two nephews that help scatter the ashes came down from Tacoma. It wasn't a large group but it was good. None of the local folks that helped with cleanup of the house showed up.

And I didn't have to take my stepson home, which was great. I'll probably take tomorrow off work to rest up and catch up on a few things. But I'm ready to start moving forward again.

55 I'm not surprised Bootyjudge is dropping out. A whole lot of us said he was going to have zero appeal among minority voters, and he was going to have zero appeal once the race moved out of the midwest and northeast. S. C. primary proved that thesis was correct, and he had no chance of breaking 10% on Super Tuesday. Add to that the fact that he's out of money, and it was time to hang it up.

Klobuchar should be gone soon too, and apparently the only reason Warren may hang in there is that some billionaire is financing her to stay in the race, just to cause trouble for Burnie.

Western CO has been pretty mild. Plenty of cold but very little snow here. Pretty heavy snowfall in the mountains- bodes well for reservoirs in the spring.

We felt the "change" in the weather this past week. Did some woodworking outside today, it was pretty toasty for Mar 1. Spring definitely is on the way.

124 Bright sunny day here today. No snowfall, but a breeze out of the south made it chilly to be outside. But I had to go out and run the snowblower to clear a track trough my driveway. Could not make it all the way to the road with the snowblower. The auger blades kept getting clogged with packed snow, which made it climb up on the drift, instead of cut through. I guess a function of snow consistency, and temperature. But at least I can walk in regular shoes from the house to the vehicle, or to the shop and the garage.

I put the snowblower away, and fired up the Suburban, and took a run at the remaining snow drift, and blasted through it. Down to the road intersection, turn around, come back, line up on the driveway, and blast through it coming in again. Rinse and repeat. Got it knocked down enough that I should be able to drive in using 2WD, if I pick the right line through.

Still snotting and coughing from this damned flu, though.

Yes.

It's not just the diameter of the bullet, it's the size of the casing.

.22 LR / WM etc are tiny little things.

.223 / 5.56 (mm) have fatter cartridges holding the bullet. 5.56 generates higher pressure in the chamber so you can use .223 in a 5.56 rifle, but it is *not* recommended to do the opposite.

It's really helpful to find images for comparison.

154 Glenn Miller was born in the little Iowa town where I grew up. His house has been restored to its appearance when he was born, it had been added to quite a bit in the years since the Millers moved to Colorado.

Apropos of nothing I suppose the house directly across from his on Clark Street was at one time painted Pepto Bismol pink. It was repainted sometime in the late 90's IIRC. Many a direction has been given using the Pepto Bismol house as a reference, but kids these days have no idea what that means now.

Posted by: Boomer Redneque hears small arms fire off in the distance at March 01, 2020 10:08 PM (KXHve)

They all shoot a bullet of about the same size, .22 of an inch. A ".22" shoots that bullet from a straight-sided brass cartridge of the same diameter, with a flange at the base that contains the primer. A "rimfire" cartridge.

The other two are similar, in that they use a longer, thicker cartridge, with a center-fire primer, that holds maybe 4 times the powder that a rimfire does, so it's a much higher-velocity round. Some rifles can handle either .223 or 5.56, and others can handle only one.

It depends. On one hand, you can hunt them with a handgun of 10mm / .41 Mag / .44 Mag class, or a rifle you'd be willing to take a deer or better with.

On the other, many areas here are more about eradication, and an AR (or MSR, to be more accurate) is probably most used. I personally prefer something on the larger AR-10 platform, but the -15 platform is used a lot.

The New York Times, which is now openly rooting for a coronavirus pandemic in the United States, because they think that it will keep Trump from being reelected, was all excited today, because a researcher at the "Institute For Disease Modeling" estimated that there are 150-1500 people infected with coronavirus in Washington State that haven't been identified yet, just from the initial patient who came back to Seattle from China. Aside from the fact that one would expect a wave of of hospital admissions for viral pneumonia in Washington if this is the case, the "Institute For Disease Modeling" is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

My level of cynicism has gotten to the point that I'm more than willing to believe that this is being deliberately done purely to spread panic.

difference between .223 and .22? Thanks!

Posted by: Boomer Redneque hears small arms fire off in the distance at March 01, 2020 10:08 PM (KXHve)

Yes, lots of difference. The diameter of the bullet itself is the same, but the 22lr bullet (not the cartridge, just the bullet) is shorter, usually 36 grains or so by weight, while the .223/5.56 bullet is generally in the 55-65 grain range.

The .22lr brass is also smaller, being both shorter (a little over a half an inch length) and also the same diameter (a little less than 1/4 inch) through it's length. The entire loaded cartridge is about an inch long. The .223/5.56 brass is necked, meaning it is bigger on the bottom (about 3/8 inch) and tapers to slightly less than a quarter inch diameter at the top, and is about an inch and three quarters long. The entire loaded cartridge is about two and a quarter inches long.

What this all amounts to is the .223/5.56 has greater velocity, meaning greater range and more energy on target. It's still not generally regarded as big enough for a good hunting round for large game (deer and bigger) but they are good for smaller game and varmints at 100 yards or greater. The .22lr is generally a shorter range (less than 100 yards) and smaller game (rabbits and squirrels) sort of round.

With that being said, there are instances of the lowly .22lr being successfully used in self defense. It's not the round I would choose, but better that than nothing I suppose.

229 I think I read the .22 has killed more than any other round. The mob has a history with the .22 in fact.

The .25 pistol is way less powerful than a .22 lr and is really the only round rightly shamed for existing.

Back in the day, even the military would switch out M16 bolts so people could train with .22 rounds. It is cheaper and you can do it in small indoor ranges.

I heard years ago that in Air Force basic they spent two days on the M16. The first day was to familiarize yourself with the weapon and the second was to shoot it with sub caliber .22 rounds.

I might have that wrong and I actually hope I do.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar canceled her St Louis Park rally, two days before Super Tuesday and MN's primary, after Black Lives Matter Protesters overtook the stage to protest conviction of Myon Burrell.

-
It seems Amy may have convicted an innocent man.

The AP reviewed more than a thousand pages of police records, court transcripts and interrogation tapes, and interviewed dozens of inmates, witnesses, family members, former gang leaders, lawyers and criminal justice experts.

The case relied heavily on a teen rival of Burrell's who gave conflicting accounts when identifying the shooter, who was largely obscured behind a wall 120 feet away.

With no other eyewitnesses, police turned to multiple jailhouse snitches. Some have since recanted, saying they were coached or coerced. Others were given reduced time, raising questions about their credibility. And the lead homicide detective offered "major dollars" for names, even if it was hearsay.

There was no gun, fingerprints, or DNA. Alibis were never seriously pursued. Key evidence has gone missing or was never obtained, including a convenience store surveillance tape that Burrell and others say would have cleared him.

Burrell, now 33, has maintained his innocence, rejecting all plea deals.

-
Normally I view such stories with great scepticism but in this case it's a Donk being hoisted by her own petard so I'm more open minded.

*******

Seems like he underwent a lot of preparation for a major political career. I found out today his boyfriend and he have only been gay fake-married less than two years (June '1. Need to show a 'stable' gay fake-married home life if you're going to run for high office. The multiple anonymous bathhouse partner lifestyle doesn't poll well.

The fake-married gay partner is 29 y/o (10 years younger than Buttigieg) and said that the mayor inspired him and that he hopes the presidential run allowed the mayor to inspire "other kids" to be all they can be.

So it's possible he'll either run for governor or go straight up into grooming young pre-teens.

Either way, I wouldn't place odds on them remaining gay fake-married for long.

it's actually pretty easy to save people from something that isn't ever going to happen. That's the entire deep plan about the "global warming crisis". They were supposed to get all the government plans in place before it became obvious that none of it was actually happening, so that they could pretend they "saved" us.

That playbook has already been run with flourocarbons and the so-called "ozone hole", which was never an actual problem, and still isn't.

I predicted this a couple weeks ago but never took the time to pull out of the market. The left can spread disinformation, it is what they do. They want the market down as that is the one Trump can point to with no legit push back.

I don't deny this is real, but as I said a two or three weeks ago, whatever damage this does will be dwarfed by the hysteria. But Trump could turn this around if he had the microphone. No one on the left is listening. He could show that America first has helped us. Look at poor Italy. Trump has been right on this thing so far.

I'd point out that it is people on the left who hate this country.

Also, I can be kinda a bitch. I tend to argue back rather than keep quiet to keep the peace.

I have a brother, who is a neverTrumper, and a sister in law(married to other brother), who is a died in the wool liberal. They both dislike Trump, but if they have learned to not say much around me. My brother is pretty funny in that he will start to say something, then think better of it and quickly change the subject.

Of my two brothers, and my two sisters and myself, the men are wimpy type conservatives, but my sisters and I are great Trump supporters. In my family, we go against that trend of women being more liberal than men.

Posted by: dartist at March 01, 2020 10:58 PM (K22Va)

I hear what you are saying and I agree with it in general. But this seemed different somehow. At the end I ordered a high end Scotch just to add to the bill and he also took that as a chance to let my try something (that is how I will phrase it). I agree, we are not best buds now, but it was a bit of an unusual experience. I could barely order a strait up drink. No one else there got boo.

i was just wondering if you throw an extra buck or two for the free drink or what? My problem with giving them an exorbitant tip is that int he end, I lose out, the bar owner loses out, and the bartender makes out. That is not generosity that is just moving the profits from one person to the next.

But I know bartenders are allowed to hook certain people up to keep them as good customers. Hell, Vegas was made on this idea. Again. I just wonder what you guys do in this situation. I thought I was fair without being obscene about it. We have a fun time talking booze, history, etc. But he game me some really nice whiskys.

An Iranian reporting from England said that the sequence was:

3) The Iranian clerical leadership is constantly traveling between Teheran and Qom, thereby spreading the disease to Teheran. Explains why the Iranian leadership got infected - it's the senior religious people who go to Qom.

In that situation, to determine a tip, I'd factor in the actual cost of those free drinks as if you were charged for them. In a Scotch bar, those drinks might be pricey. If I got $50 worth of free Scotch, I'd throw a $20 bill down as a tip. Proportionally increase the tip as you see fit (and the 'cost' of the free drinks).

The problem with that is if you become a regular. A bartender will remember you as a decent tipper. But once you drop the amount of the tip for the same freebie service, they'll remember that, too, and no more freebies.

But IMAO, you're still ahead of the game giving a healthy tip.

All washed down with a modest, good-but-not-quite-excellent bourbon.

Tom Sims, found only at the Spec's Liquor chain in Texas and at the ABC stores in Florida.

Flavor profile is very close to a Jim Beam, but it's easily 2x to 3x as smooth.

And the 1.75 goes out the door at under $21, with tax.

I like several top shelf, premium bourbons better, of course. But for a simple, every night nitecap, this is perfectly adequate and hard to beat.

457 Look, this is going to cause a recession based on the damage to China alone. The China's PMIs for goods and services dropped 15% lower than the lows in the 08-09 recession. Best adapt and urge Congress and POTUS to shut down the damn borders, travel, and large gatherings. Hell, the NCAA is talking about holding March Madness in empty stadiums. The NCAA cares more about public health and safety than money than our government officials, which should be rage inducing.

No party can claim the high ground. Their has been plenty of fuck ups in every department so far.

480 under 500 is pretty low these days. I am getting old and starting to bitch about the obscene prices at the supermarket. $5 for a freaking Cauliflower? Three and a half bucks for an heirloom tomato?
If you can get an AR for under $500 then do so. Maybe you can do a build. I never got into that and can't offer any advice. I am sure others have a lot of info on that issue.

Now LHe, used in superconducting magnets and such, is a bit different as it boils off rapidly and has a limited lifetime. Very expensive stuff. The logistics drive it's economics, not it's scarcity. I work with it every day. I don't think China is a player in the helium economy yet. They are mostly producing consumer stuff not big ticket high tech.

you may be right, but i can't remember the last time i had the flu...

hell, even a cold.

lots of other health issues, but the routine infectious crap that takes everyone else down? not a problem.

of course, at the first sign of such things, i start in with the zinc lozenges, and maintaining a steady state of ethanol on board has natural disinfectant properties against whatever nasties are unlucky enough to try entering my body.

I'm really looking forward to one of the others pushing Klobber too far at one of the debates.

She has the look of a woman who's been in a barroom brawl or two in her day.

I was criticized by the Democrats when I closed the Country down to China many weeks ahead of what almost everyone recommended. Saved many lives. Dems were working the Impeachment Hoax. They didn't have a clue! Now they are fear mongering. Be calm & vigilant!
