Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Ace of Spades Pet Thread![]() Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Sit back, relax and enjoy the world of pets. From Teresa in Forth Worth, A tarantula sheds its skin. From our regular contributor, Shibumi, "And now... links. Because that is more fun than doing taxes." Cute dog house. Quite the look. Angry cat. It seems several times a week I hear from Hank Curmudgeon. This week was no different. Cute relationship. Thank you Shibumi and Hank. You folks sure do find the neatest pet things. ![]() I was going to post the last two members of our feline family this week, but instead we got some lousy news. Birdman, one of our original kittens who was posted just a month or so ago, was diagnosed with kidney failure. It was already very bad and we couldn’t see any reason to prolong the agony - his or ours. He was no longer filtering anything and poison was building up in his system. So this morning we visited the vet for the last time and Birdman passed over the rainbow bridge. He was pampered to the extreme over the weekend, and we’re pretty sure he and the other cats knew what was up. He used to follow me around like a puppy, and just this past year “raised" a litter of three feral kittens, grooming them, playing with them, and teaching them how to open screen doors. His legacy lives on in those three girls. His feral mother was our first rescue, and Birdman would have been 15 years old next month. He got his name because he never could give a proper “meow”, it was always a cheep or squeak. I’ll post the the last of our rescues next time. For now - we had a heck of a time, Birdy, and I’ll miss you waking me up every morning at 4. As always, thanks for posting the pets. - BamaBubba So sorry to hear of Birdman's passing. He certainly was a handsome young lad. Thanks for sharing your story with us. We know it must have been hard. ![]() We’ve got quite a few cats (disclaimer - all spayed and neutered and up to date on their shots) as you tend to accumulate homeless cats when you live on 15 acres in the country. Well, we used to be out in the country before Ohio and New Jersey invaded. Anyhow, this girl is Batcat (because of her perfect imitation of Batman’s mask). She does enjoy a fire in the fireplace. - AndrewTough life Batman, but someone has to do it amirite? Great photo Andrew and what a big hearted Moron you are. Thanks for the submission. ![]() Hi, Misanthropic Humanitarian and fellow voracious readers of the Pet Thread. What a lovely "family" you have there Rich. Looks like you know how to perform the cat roundup. Cool photo. And thanks for your kind words. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mis Hum,It is always good to hear from you Publius Redux and I hope you don't mind that I shared your entire email. Just an awesome letter and quite the world you live in. Glad you are feeling well. Thanks for sharing today. ![]() So glad you liked Miss Grace!! This handsome fellow is Blizzard. He was rescued from a kill pen as a scruffy 4 month old (first pic). After a couple weeks, we gained his confidence (with lots and lots of treats), started sponsoring him and trained him to walk on a lead. He seems to be a happy boy, but needs a girlfriend. We believe he has some mammoth donkey in him (thank you George Washington!). MW in TexasWhat a handsome animal. It is one thing to save a dog or a cat from shelter, but a donkey! Awesome. It sounds like he has found a solid home and has a great life. Thanks for sharing this story today. ![]() Meet Olive. She was an office cat at a previous employer. They were going to send her to a shelter. As I needed a pet I adopted her. She keeps me sane. Spud Bud in St. LouisThanks Spud Bud, great nic. The City? Well, you could do worse. BTW Olive is one of my "Grandkids". ![]() Hi MisHum, Last December my mom had to put down her 18 year old cat. She was the last of three siblings, so when I came to visit I took her to a shelter in Spokane, WA to get another cat. This is Blackie. He's about 4-5 years old and was found in a trap that's also used to catch coons and such, and he was injured. After he was available for adoption he was adopted for a few days but was returned. They felt he was too needy and meowed too much (people are stoopid). Yes, he's needy, is a talker, and a lap cat (he head-butted me a few hours after we got him home). He's found a home. - Jake HolenheadWell Jake, it sounds like a perfect match for both your Mom and Blackie. May he give her many years of companionship. Thank you for sharing with us today. Thank you Morons for the links and pets. A great bunch of pets this week which is par for the course as you guys rock. If you have something to share with us pet related, please contact us at petmorons at the gmail dot com. Have a great week!!! Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Good Saturday afternoon, pet horde!
Great links--I really want one of those little Hmong dogs. So cute! Our semi-feral kitty has not come home for three weeks. Ever since we nursed his fighting wounds, started feeding him, and got him to come inside, he's never been gone more than three days. I think he's gone for good. There is a house down the street that always has about a half dozen cats outside (probably our Hobo came from that lot). They are also all gone. Hmmm. Happy Caturday everyone-- for any Pet Moron looking for something worthwhile to watch online, here is a link to PBS's science channel, NOVA. This week they posted two new hour-long episodes about pets, titled "Dog Tales" and "Cat Tales." They're in the menu at the right-hand side on the link: https://tinyurl.com/ycbd5mx4
They're family-friendly in that the science (some history, some archaeology, some neuroscience, some veterinary medicine) would appeal to kids and teenagers as well as adults. Suggest watching these episodes sooner rather than later, as PBS puts its episodes in a pay-to-view category after about two weeks. Anyway, enjoy! Mules can be either male or female; a female ("molly") mule can theoretically become pregnant if she has estrus cycles. But even if two mules are both sterile, there's no reason why the john mule might not like some companionship. Posted by: Basement Cat at February 29, 2020 03:56 PM (pPNCa) 54

Posted by: runner at February 29, 2020 03:59 PM (zr5Kq) 56
I thought the problem with mule procreation wasn't that they produce sperm or eggs. I thought the problem was that their chromosomes are wonky on account of horses and donkeys having different numbers of pairs.
I'm not saying it can't happen - I'm not a geneticist. We're finding out now that Homo Erectus roaming southern Eurasia managed to knock up some Neanders. They were, what, a million years apart? But that sort of thing has to be very very rare. Posted by: boulder t'hobo at February 29, 2020 04:00 PM (ykYG2) 57

More thoughts on the coyote theory...one night, the dogs were going nuts, barking and barking and I didn't see anything or anyone.
I peeked out the door the next morning and saw paw prints in the snow on the porch, told my husband I thought the cat had been around, because paw prints. When I got home from work that eve, he told me the prints were too big, that it was probably a stray dog. He even mentioned maybe a coyote, and I laughed that off. Now, in hindsight, this is making sense. Posted by: April at February 29, 2020 04:15 PM (OX9vb) 76

The truth in advertising for that link is going to keep me from clicking it. Posted by: m at February 29, 2020 04:03 PM (UZ8BZ) Curses, foiled again! I was rather hoping that Mis Hum would put a misleading link name on that to lure the unsuspecting into the.....er....um.... "web". I should have known that he is far too honorable to do that.I Ah, well. I guess I will have to find my Saturday fun somewhere else... I was saying last night, the Bart Simpson of service dogs. I don't know why he was allowed to stay in the class setting such a bad example for the other students. Publius Redux and his sister are living the life we had in the 90's...Singapore and HK.
While living in Singapore we had 2 cats and a yellow lab. When we moved to HK we found homes for the 2 cats but brought the yellow lab with us to HK. She moved back to the US with us when we left HK. Best damn dog that ever lived...well traveled too! I still miss her to this day and she died in 2009. Posted by: Tami at February 29, 2020 05:17 PM (cF8AT) 109

Posted by: NZFrank with a M2 at February 29, 2020 05:04 PM Heh. There weren't any brown trout for him to catch. Before I got the camera he was splayed out on the seat with his head down in the bowl. I think he was trying to get a drink. Donkeys are in big demand with cattle ranches. A donkey or burro can and will kill a coyote. Protecting the cattle.
My grandfather farmed his land with a pair of mules. He never bought a tractor. He retired in 1978, he was 70 years old. Sure miss him. He was a good man. Posted by: Case at February 29, 2020 05:43 PM (x3sak) 124

Howdy would you mind letting me know which webhost you're using?
I've loaded your blog in 3 different web browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot faster then most. Can you recommend a good hosting provider at a reasonable price? Kudos, I appreciate it!
