Ya know - I disagreed with stop and frisk from the first time I heard about it. But, my objections to it are on the grounds of potential abuse, and the precedent it sets for further incursions by LE.
I prefer the old, corrupt ways of dealing with this, rather than a spooky new way of making it legal and subjecting everyone to strongarm policing instead of just the known bad elements.
I always rejected the assumption by its opponents on the Left that its a racist policy. I think (for the most part) proponents of stop-and-frisk were speaking in good faith, and believed it to be a reasonable and acceptable approach to crime control. I just think that they're wrong about it.
But in light of Bloomberg's prior statements, he may be an actual racist. Not just saying that because "their rules." He seems to sneeringly condescend toward blacks and lump them together as a unitary criminal element.

Unfortunately, I think Bernie may have the best shot of the bunch at beating Trump. "Free everything" paid for by "the 1%" is a tough message to beat. It may have been enough to win in 2016, as the economy was still weak and Trump largely unproven. With the economy doing well and Trump not failing, I think he has the edge still.

I'm not sure they can afford to do this. No one can predict what will happen and it could be as drastic as the party completely shattering and shattering for good.
I think their best bet is to accept reality and allow Bernie to become the candidate who takes on Trump. If he loses (very likely I think but not a certainty), they can use it to try and steer everyone back to the neoliberal ranch. If he wins, they can bottle him up in Congress and use the media to beat him down if need be. There would be executive orders that could hurt their oligarch butt buddies, but those can be shot down by the conservative SCOTUS (and likely with votes from the liberal wing as well).

Haven't looked into the specifics but my guess is that the prosecutors were asking for a sentence above the presumptive sentence in the guidelines (an upwards departure) which are highly scrutinized by appellate courts.
