Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Ricky Gervais Savagely Spoofs Spoiled Brat Feminist Natalie PortmanAt the Oscars, Natalie Portman staged a "silent protest" by wearing a bespoke Christian Dior cape emblazoned with the names of Unfairly Overlooked! female directors. Portman, 38, attended the awards show wearing a black and gold Dior dress with a cape embroidered with the names of the female directors who were snubbed by the Academy: Lorene Scafaria (“Hustlers”), Lulu Wang (“The Farewell”), Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”), Mati Diop (“Atlantics”), Marianne Heller (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”), Melina Matsoukas (“Queen & Slim”), Alma Har’el (“Honey Boy”) and Céline Sciamma (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”).Fellow spoiled-brat out-of-touch nutter Rose McGowan attacked Portman for... not "walking the walk" regarding female directors? "I find Portman’s type of activism deeply offensive to those of us who actually do the work. I'm not writing this out of bitterness...And this is not just about the money. ... I am writing out of disgust. I just want her and other actresses to walk the walk," McGowan said. "Natalie, you have worked with two female directors in your very long career- one of them was you. You have a production company that has hired exactly one female director- you." But that's just normal Hollywood battiness and cattiness. The real attack came from Ricky Gervais. — Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) February 12, 2020 @rickygervais I have nothing against the most famous people in the world using their privileged, global platform to tell the world what they believe. I even agree with most of it. I just tried to warn them that when they lecture everyday, hard working people, it has the opposite effect. Peace. 129K Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Elephant was good. All of his stuff was rather typical European art house stuff. And then I watched Anti-Christ and swore to never watch another von Trier again. I've since walked it back a bit and put Melancholia back in my Netflix DVD queue. I'll see it eventually. But Anti-Christ...after the 30 minute mark, I said to myself, "There's no way I won't at least like this movie." I was very, very wrong. I despised it by the end. Despised. Review: OMG. Horrible beyond description. Embarrassing. Sad. "Who in the hell greenlighted this?" Pointless. Juvenile. "Are you fucking kidding me?" Self-indulgent. Trivial. Purposeless. Rose is max-crazy but I almost respect her crazy. I mean, she's not well. And I'd like anyone not well to get the help they need. And she does seem to be all about getting attention for Rose. But, on the other hand, her abuse seems to be up there with some of the boys sexually abused and used in Hollywood, ie., not just regretting the sex she had to get ahead. And the utter fury at everyone looking the other way? That's rational. And I think that her career is over.

1) Palpable concern among some Hse Dems from battleground states or representing swing districts about the impact of a potential nomination Sanders nomination “It’s bad,” said one freshman Dem from a swing district. “We are having conversations about how to deal with this.” 2) Freshman Hse Dem to Fox: "If (Sanders) is the nominee, we lose." Mbr said a Sanders nomination would cost Dems their state in the fall. Some voters would leave the top of the ticket blank 3) Two other vulnerable Democrats indicated that a Sanders nomination would almost certainly cede their states to President Trump, to say nothing of the impact on races down the ballot for the House and Senate. 4) To counter a possible Sanders nomination, One Democrat said they would try to hyper-focus on local issues as a counterbalance. But the lawmaker conceded that would be hard 5) What is unclear is how Dems are starting to grapple with the Sanders nominee potential. When asked if Dems would actively try to block Sanders or would try to “spin” things in such a way to remain viable, lawmakers offered no specifics. “We’re just starting,” said one Democrat 6) A Hse Dem from a swing state who does not represent a competitive district argued that it didn’t matter who the Democratic nominee was. This lawmaker said there was such concern about Trump that voters would be willing to support “anyone else” besides Trump – even Sanders. 7) Even as the Sanders alarm bells sounding among some Democrats, other Democratic sources note that the party has only allocated a tiny percentage of delegates. “It’s still so early,” said one source. “We just have to win,” said the source. Just get on with it regarding the Oscars (that I don't care about). Stipulate "X" Oscars for women, "X" Oscars for gays, "X" Oscars for minorities...which must also be subdivided, based on ethnicity. And maybe throw a few to whites, who should relinquish theirs anyway. I have long advocated smearing their faces with a big "walk the walk" bag of steaming dog poo. On a panoply of areas from global warming hypocrisy to turning down roles and handing them over to another aggrieved "victim group."

Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater EXACTLY! Movies written and directed by women almost invariable have this deadening inertia, where NOTHING HAPPENS plotwise. I often compare it to watching a little girl rearranging Barbies in her dollhouse. There is never any forward-motion to the plot, nor any "necessity" to what happens. It's just people either sitting still and talking, or purposely bipping and bopping from one place to another without the story being advanced. It's almost like they don't even know what a plot is. It's like a cargo-cult version of movemaking -- they imitate the form successfully, but with the slightest inking of the underlying structure that makes a movie work -- like cargo cultists building an accurate reproduction of a jet airplane...out of bamboo. OK Gang, I have a serious, and sad, question.
Just learned one of my students has passed away. We just finished the short-term class last week. He was found in his student housing. A very fine young man from Saudi Arabia. He was funny, quick, smart (earned an A in the class) and looking forward to graduation. My question...does anyone know any particular Muslim practices for the Remembrance event the university will have? Any Do's and Don'ts? I'm sure by now he has been returned to his home for burial. Such a sad loss of a fine young man. Posted by: Diogenes at February 13, 2020 01:42 PM (axyOa) 250

I have a theory, that a bunch of Hollywood types saw that documentary about how US films and TV about freedom and individuality from the 80s got bootlegged into Romania and caused the collapse of Communism there, and they're damned if they are going to be a part of that again. Bernie's got the socialist true believers smelling blood in the water as this is their chance to take the reins. This is helped because the identity politics bandwagon has split between Buttjug and Warren, and neither of them appeal to african american voters. * He was milquetoast (had to be - corporate event) but still managed to be amusing. Not uproariously funny, but amusing. * He filled his time well and didn't wear out his welcome * Although I have no reason to expect that he knows anything about my industry, he clearly did some studying and boned up on the major relevant topics. he wove some of those concepts into his act, again humorously. Rich Zeoli has a theory on Nan and her actions.
He thinks she had a quid pro quo with Mini Mike! her part was to do the impeachment scam his part was to buy them the House back in 2016, so she could be speaker again. being speaker means a LOT to her. so he ponied up a ton of money to win a bunch of races, now she dances to his tune. he wanted the impeachment insanity to push joe out of the running not that it was necessary, joe was never gonna make it regardless, but Mr New York didn't know that Posted by: THE_BlackOrchid_STATE! I was listening to a podcast where a Dominican priest was talking about St. Thomas Aquinas and his contribution to metaphysics (yes I'm a nerd), and he made the point that in greek philosophy up through Aristotle, humility and charity were not considered virtues. The ancients understood bravery, courage, temperence, honesty, but it took Christianity to really recognize that humility was a virtue towards one should strive. Without God, if you are a virtuous person, you shouldn't be humble, because you actually just are better than most people. I suspect that because God has been removed from our culture today, humility is falling back by the wayside as a recognized virtue. Oates did some decent writing on boxing. Never heard any of her fiction.
Posted by: Broseidon - New Work Computer, Same Work Ethic at February 13, 2020 I really, really, want to like her short stories, but just can't. They start off well, she is great at using the language, but they all fall apart - or just go nowhere - at the end. Posted by: josephistan at February 13, 2020 02:20 PM (Izzlo) 485
I suspect that because God has been removed from our culture today, humility is falling back by the wayside as a recognized virtue.

"Was just told by one of my contacts that the actual reason why Hope Hicks is being brought back to the WH is due to Trump's declining mental state. " Those assholes say this about all Republicans. Tried it with Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush, and now Trump. Posted by: Rev. Dr. E Buzz Miller, Lesbian at February 13, 2020 02:24 PM (1wQnN) 488

I suspect your priest is not the best source of information on the pre-Socratic Greeks. But, you didn't want to read the material in English class either.

If Gervais says he "agrees with most" of the leftist bilge, he ain't quite there yet. When he gets thoroughly blacklisted, maybe then he'll wake up fully. Posted by: J.J. Ford had to land on a golf course when his plane was in trouble and he couldn't make it back to Santa Monica Airport in 2015.
In 1999 Ford had an accident in a Bell Helicopter where he allowed the chopper to drop too low and it was unable to power back up and they crashed. In 2017 was the incident at John Wayne Airport whereby he mistook instructions of where he was to land and almost collided with a passenger jet waiting to take off with 111 people on board. But I wouldn't call him incompetent. Posted by: Cheri at February 13, 2020 02:43 PM (oiNtH) 494
Nobody sane us going to ask Hillary Clinton to run as their VP. They know her as well as we do. Would YOU want to be the only person whose beating heart stood between Hillary Clinton and the White House?
