Gun Thread: He's Got a Gun! Shoot 'em!! [Weasel]

klaatu scaled.jpg

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, when the space guys land in your yard and come out with hinky looking space shit in their hands, pop a cap in their ass! And damned if that's not what they did in 1951! Let's find out how that worked out below, shall we?

gort scaled.png
Gort goes all gangster

Well it was working just fine, thank you very much, until this guy shows up! Oh sure, play the robot with the eye ray card! I see how this is going to be. The lesson here is to know your target and think before you shoot.

.22 Plinker Update
Last week I mentioned buying a .22 caliber rifle for shooting steel at the farm, and how you can have a whole lot of fun spending an afternoon just plinking away. So I buy the rifle online and it's accurately listed in "fair" condition when I pick it up. Perfect for what I want and it's priced accordingly. The rifle, a Colt Colteer 1-22, is about 65 or 70 years old and came with a fixed power Weaver B4 scope of the same vintage. The gun is mechanically sound but once I get it out into the sun I can tell the scope glass is cloudy. Not so much as to make it unusable, but pretty far from being clear, too. What to do?

Well I figured there must be a place out there repairing vintage scopes, and lo and behold, there is! Searching for "vintage gun scopes" I found a company with the crazy and imaginative name Vintage Gun Scopes. So after a little poking around on their website, I learn I can have my scope overhauled for around $100 with a 90 day turnaround. A little more poking around and I find I can buy the same refurbished scope graded in excellent condition, cleaned and nitrogen purged, for $150. Well that's getting close to what I spent on the rifle, but who gives a shit? I decide to skip fixing mine for now and just ordered a replacement.

I make it a practice to only recommend companies or products here which I have personally used and am willing to endorse with the Weasel Stamp of Approval, and I'm delighted to add Vintage Gun Scopes to the list. I place the order, a week goes by and I have a box on my doorstep, shipped with tracking and insurance, for $5. The scope was very well packaged with enough bubble wrap to make Greta cry in outrage, and came in a nice wooden presentation box. The condition was exactly as advertised, with only a very slight ring mark evident. The glass is sharp and clear, and I'm a happy shooter. Seriously, if you have a project like this and need glass, take a look at Vintage Gun Scopes in Corvallis, MT.

Weaver B4 in box scaled.jpg

Weaver B4 scaled.jpg

Does it make sense to put a $150 scope on a $200 rifle? I don't know about you all, but it does to me. I once bought a police trade-in S&W Model 10 in beat-to-hell condition, then sent it to the factory to be refinished, making it a $500, $200 gun. It turned out so nice, I never got around to shooting it! To be fair, I have other Model 10's and was frankly just curious to see how it would come out, and get a certain satisfaction from seeing these old and unloved guns and accessories return from the scrap heap.

How about you all? Do you take economics into strict account when making decisions like this, or do you sometimes do things that don't make a lot of economic sense but just seem like the right or a fun thing to do?

Virginia

molon labe ancient greek scaled.jpg

Well the radical leftist gun-grabbers are still at it in Virginia. Governor Asshead (Idiot - Va) and his cronies apparantly interpreted over 20,000 gun rights supporters in Richmond as a mandate to go full steam ahead with their anti 2nd Amendment agenda. This week, House Bill 961 made it out of committee and now heads to the state Senate, albeit with some modification. The current version drops the "assault rifle" registration nonsense, but still prohibits new sales and makes owning suppressors and magazines with a capacity of more than 12 rounds, a felony.

Here's an excerpt from the VSSA press release on the matter, and here is a link to a summary of the bill with links to the current marked-up legislative language.

If you live in Virginia, please stay engaged and keep the pressure on localities which have declared themselves 2nd Amendment Sanctuaries, letting them know you expect them to follow through with their commitments. Remember, what is happening in Virginia could be happening in your state next. Stay tuned.

It's About Time
Here's a happy little reminder that we live in a world that is quickly losing it's collective mind. We're all familiar with BATFE Form 4473, or the Federal form used to process the transfer of a firearm. Well the feds are accepting comments on some rather important proposed changes to the document, such as making the questions a lot more confusing, and now being allowed to select "non binary" as your sex. So glad to see my tax dollars being put to such good use. [h/t: everyone who sent this in]

NoVaMoMe 2020!!

For those who might've missed it, NoVaMoMe 2020 was announced to great fanfare a few days ago. The NoVaMoMe, a Weaselbell Production, is pretty much the social event of the season, and one you simply cannot afford to miss! Well, at least it's the can't miss social event for May 9th between 5pm and 10pm in the small geographic region of Fairfax, Virginia. All of the details and instructions for claiming a spot can be yours simply by emailing the Central Planning Committee at the link provided on the main page, left sidebar; novamome2020 at gmail dot cee oh mmm. The email address is also usually linked in our nics. As of Saturday, we're about halfway to the 100 person maximum capacity of the new and exciting venue.

Our best buddy and planner/hostess extraordiaire bluebell was quoted recently regarding the big event:

There will be plenty of Horde spouses at the MoMe, some of whom read the blog, some of whom don't, and some completely apolitical. I want to assure everyone that MoMes are a place to relax and have fun and meet your grey-box friends in person, and rarely does politics even come up! Think of it as a big family reunion, only with people you actually like.

Totally not at shiv-point, I vigorously agree with all of bluebell's comments. For the introverts and lurkers out there, its a very casual, low-key, and FUN affair. I have been to a bunch of these around the country, and I can honestly say nobody comes away thinking it wasn't a great time. Some people mingle and others don't. If hiding behind a plant in the corner and just observing is your thing, have at it! If dancing naked on a folding chair with Cheetos stuck in your nose is how you like to roll, you can do that too! You can be as involved or as barely involved as you like. I swear you will enjoy yourself, and if you don't believe me, which is always smart, you can completely believe bluebell!

Don't be a sad, sad loser, and miss an evening of food, drink, laughs and valuable prizes! Register today!

This week we have a great submission from our pal neon madman

Here are a couple of finds from a recent gun show, a source that I like to prowl looking for boxes of random mixed cartridges that occasionally have a few gems in them. In this case, I struck pay dirt, and picked these up for a couple of bucks. On the left, we have a Fiocchi 32 gauge shotgun shell, and on the right a 20 gauge all-plastic Wanda shell. In the center is a mystery, I have not been able to identify it yet. Nominally about .36 caliber, with a straight copper case (slight taper near the front), and no visible headstamp or primer. I'm assuming that it is inside primed, and in some ways that rimless, grooveless case resembles a Bergmann cartridge, but I don't think that's it. All of the Bergmann cartridges I am aware of are brass cases with a center-fire primer.

Another great entry by Neon Madman. Thank you! Can anyone help identify the middle cartridge?

Please note the new and improved gmail account morongunthread at gmail dot com. An informal Gun Thread archive can be found HERE. If you have a question you would like to ask Gun Thread Staff offline, just send us a note and we'll do our best to answer. If you care to share the story of your favorite firearm, send a picture with your nic and tell us what you sadly lost in the tragic canoe accident. If you would like to remain completely anonymous, just say so. Lurkers are always welcome!

That's it for this week - have you been to the range?

18 My 1911A1 finally came in from CMP this week. I had put in for the lottery number back in Sept of 2018. Its a Remington Rand (frame and slide) that left the factory in March of 1945. It has a govt contract (post 1949) barrel that has seen very little use. The pistol is in great shape, I cant find any rebuild marks so it must have been in storage at the arsenal for a very long time.

28 Looking forward to seeing a picture of the scope mounted on the rifle and your review. ;-)
Well I finally pulled the trigger (pun intended) and purchased my first rifle. It is due to be delivered to the FFL this Tuesday. As I am at work I will not be able to do anything until Saturday where I will travel outside the stifling confines of NYC to acquire my purchase. I may not be bringing it home that day as I am also bringing the scope I purchased the other week and will have the gunsmith there mount it on my rifle along with bore sighting it and also pinning down the 10 round magazine so that it only holds 5 rounds.

Yes, even with a bolt action gun the Peoples Republic of New York City deem it to dangerous to have such a high magazine capacity.More and more as I get into this hobby it is making me hate NYC and NY even more with their anti-gun laws.

32 So I guess it's now pretty much established that specific language in Heller - something put out by an outfit called SCOTUS - is just a suggestion? Otherwise, how can these restrictions on ARs be enacted, or stand for even a few months? Try doing that with *any* other constitutional right, as specifically defined and detailed by SCOTUS (itself a hopelessly dubious process, but for now the status quo).

Restoring an oldie but a goody to as made condition is a very self satisfying joy. That old scope was just sitting there, wasting away, neglected and forlorn, and to be put back into fighting shape is as it should be. Good on you.

Such a joy to shoot old war horses and see them shine. Got both zeroed out to 100 yards and the Yugo, although a little cheaper made, out shot the Czech by a frog's hair. I shot old German surplus from 1943/1944 and newer Remington and Sellier and Bellot and all shot great and went bang.

Next week I will take them out to 600 yards and let those big old 8 mm rounds do their thing.

67 The Colt King Cobra whose photo Weasel graciously featured on one of the first gun threads was refinished at Colt (before whatever happened happened with the Custom Shop), I was able to get particularly good service thanks to a connection via the Colt Forum.

I did that just because I wanted her pretty. Turned out my total $ into the revolver was, even at that moment, 1/3 of the price that was being seen online for the type and model. But that wasn't a consideration.

Like Weasel, I like seeing/having these nice things in nice condition.

72 I'm utterly baffled by the little cartridge up there.

There are all kinds of short-lived cartridges from the wild and crazy days of the transition from paper to self-contained metallic, and some that look like that with internal primers that strike an anvil inside, but I can't seem to find any that are completely featureless on the case head. Usually there's a little dimple for the primer, even if it's not exposed.

74 Seeking guidance from the gun geeks:

I inherited a Lee Enfield No. 5 Mk I jungle carbine from my father. Prior to him getting it, the bayonet mount had been cut off (professionally, not a hack job). It still has the flash hider and all other original parts. I refinished the stock many, many years ago, when I was about 12 y.o. So, it's not in original condition.

So I'm thinking it my be a fun project to sporterize it. Something Parker-Hale-ish. New stock. Remove flash hider, etc. I could do the stock, possibly some other minor stuff. Anything critical I'd leave for a gunsmith. Wouldn't commence this project until a couple of years from now, so just pre-planning.

Thoughts? Sacrilege?

75 If you live in Virginia, please stay engaged and keep the pressure on localities which have declared themselves 2nd Amendment Sanctuaries, letting them know you expect them to follow through with their commitments. Remember, what is happening in Virginia could be happening in your state next. Stay tuned.
----------------------------

WA state is 3 weeks behind, having gone all blue like VA. Our legislature starts 3 weeks later. And there are a small group of local billionaires that fund their message and personnel to manage this corruption.

We have had a meetup of gunowning citizens in Olympia already, completely safe and without incident, and even picked up the trash on the ground before it finished.

The next day, legislation was proposed to ban all gun carry on the state capitol grounds.

This is the way they respond to a peaceful gathering.

The local anti-freedom press has ceased any actual intel what is going on, just like last year with the gun-stealing I-1639. The 1971 Soviet Pravda would be proud how they smother any opposition.

Only a few Repub legislators get emails out to us to keep us informed what is going on.

But at the center of it, they are commie pussies. They Oh So BAD want to take guns away, but are terrified of any backlash. Absolutely terrified.

So Virginia, PLEASE GIVE THOSE GUN GRABBING BASTARD LEGISLATORS HELL!!!

The WA state leftie pussies are watching. Yes they are.

78 Decapping 9mm brass, then going to do my first 45 Colt reloads (for a Model 1866 Uberti repro lever rifle). Then a bunch of 30 carbine brass prep, then reload that, then hopefully have most of my HXP 30-06 surplus shot up so I can process all of *that* brass (which tends to be a time-sink, about 1/3 of the cases need filing to make the rims fit in the shell holder - M1s beat the bejeesus out of the cases).

83 Pick my not one but two, two AR 15s this week!. Ordered one online because my local gun shop has been unable to get the one I ordered in. The wait started early last October.

So I go in and pick up my online AR and what do you know. The company the gun shop ordered from last October (Son's of Liberty) sent a couple of AR pistols instead.

I therefore bought one of the AR pistols too. The gun shop feeling bad about the wait, waived the transfer fee, paid for the background check and gave me two slings and back sites at 40% off.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck while crossing the small creek in town. Before I could stop them the ARs leapt from the moving SUV and disappeared in the murky water.

94 The VA bill is about "assault firearms" not assault weapons. So they cover rifles and pistols under the definition. Mostly aimed at rifle based pistols but the big Desert Eagle would fall into this category.

In a way, we are dodging a bullet, in a way we are not. So the bill as modified does not require registration of existing assault firearms, transfers are prohibited. So you cannot buy or sell or even give away your assault firearms.

Not sure how that will play out.

The other DQ was a buddy of mine, who'd never been DQ'd, except, this time, went past a target, and, one brain fart later, turned around rather than back up to get the target.

Didn't take it hard, stuck around and scored the rest of the match for our squad.

I think the bill is going to play out like CT and NY and CO - nobody is going to turn in a magazine.

I think that for the most part the status quo ante will maintain.

But some things will happen right away. A fair number of gunstores will just go out of business.

The no-transfer business is going to build up - people who own "assault firearms" who are hard up for money are going to be stuck. People will pass away and what happens to their firearms? Things are going to snowball.

Neon Madman: "Nominally about .36 caliber, ... "

This looks like a cartridge for a Needle Gun, probably a later version of the type.

Eley of London made a .38 cal firearm in the 1860's but the cartridges of that time were paper. Perhaps this is a brass version, or a brass loading for a competitor's firearm.

139 Well, it's been almost three weeks since I've ordered my Kel-Tec P-17. Still not in yet. I've got about 4,000 rounds of .22 LR so I have plenty to feed it. I had to laugh because it comes with a 16 round magazine. The guy at the gun shop told me that instead of three 16 round magazines, it comes with three "repair kits". CO has a 15 round magazine ordnance. Doesn't make any difference though. I picked up a couple of 25 round magazines for my 10/22 long after the law was passed. One of those laws that no one enforces.

144 So, got my Glock 44, disassembled, read the manual, added a few drops of CLP BreakFree on the tab.

22 Plinkster and MAC on the YouTubes did not treat the gun kindly and, sadly, I can confirm about half of what they say.

Ammo tested were:
Winchester 36 grain bucket of bullets (100 rounds)
CCI SGB 40 grain flat point (50)
Winchester 36 grain plated hp (100)
Federal 40 grain practice ammo (50)
Armscor 36 grain JHP (50)
CCI Minimag (100 rounds)

The good:
Gun is accurate and the trigger is pretty good, with a very crisp reset

It IS a G19 Gen 5 for size and shape, including magazines

I did not find any problems with 36 grain ammo, despite other reports.

The bad:
The. Fucking. Magazines. Not only do they only hold 10 rounds (which would have been fine 5 or more years ago), they consistently fail to chamber the first round.

Every fucking single magazine I had a jam. That is not fun. I numbered all three mags (I bought an extra) but didn't see any one magazine was better than any other.

The problem is that the magazine design causes the first round to nosedive when the magazine is fully loaded. If I load just 9 rounds, I didn't see the problem.
--I will test this theory again next week but I'm not amused by only being able to load 9 rounds per mag.
--When I tap the magazine to make the first round 'perk up' to chamber correctly, then she SECOND round would consistently stovepipe.

I will do more testing.
I am not happy with this purchase.
I would like to go back to a previous save point and not buy it.

Guns that work better than the new fucking Glock 44:
CZ Kadet
SIG P250-22
Beretta 92-22
Ruger MK IV

I am very tempted to buy the cheap ass Ket Tec and/or Taurus 22's and see how they compare to this $400 piece.

I DO think the flaw here is the magazine and not the gun itself, despite the polymer slide and other design quirks. So....that's nice, I guess.

Glock factory magazines were once the best you could get and 3rd party mags were always inferior. Now, I'm praying for some 3rd party magazine designs.

Depending on how things go next week, I may be sending the gun back to Glock.

151 Average Guy, on the no. 5 Jungle Carbine, First, verify that it is truly a no. 5--it will have a bolt with the a hole in the bolt knob and the bolt should be matching. There are also lightening cuts if you dismount the receiver (also believed to cause the receiver to flex more--hence the wandering zero--Lee Enfields lock from the rear). It should have a micrometer sight on the rear rather than the cheaper flip ap sight.

If it has Sante Fe as the importer on it, then it is probably a converted no. 4. In that case, hack away. A few other importers were known for putting together rifles from parts. Not advisable to fire unless you know a bit about Lee Enfields.

The flash hider is on there for good reason--you will get a lot of muzzle flash from a .303 in a short barrel like the jungle carbine and pretty heavy recoil to boot.

It might also be a Malaysian No. 5 where they removed bayonet lugs on them for police service.

Personally, I would leave it as is--these are a mediocre sporting rifle and Lee Enfields are a pain to accurize due to the two piece stock etc. Read up on Roger Wadham's book about it. As a result, you will spend money to have a rifle worth less than when you started even without the bayonet lug. If it is a fake No. 5 (marked no. 4 on the receiver for example) then hack away.

Second, keep the stock and do not sporterize it if you do decide to chop it up. You are better off selling the stock and buying a ATI polymer stock or the copious amounts of no. 4 cut forends with a replacement buttstock. No. 5 stocks in complete condition are bringing pretty good prices on Ebay etc. from folks restoring them.

it varies by state and by manufacturer... check with your local FFL, who should know the details, or check with a lawyer. it'll be cheaper than paying to defend yourself in court.

Browning won't ship our Superposed back to us (if they ever get the barrel back and finish refurbishing the set ) except through a regular FFL.

166 Mark, sorry to hear about the Glock 44.

My only contribution is to report that I've had an M&P-22 for a few years now, and it's been great.

Obviously based on the S&W M&P line. I use 10-rd mags (Idiotifornia). Have tried all my .22 ammo - common stuff, Federal and Remington - and no problems. Once in a while, failure to eject/stovepipe, or failure to feed, but rare (and probably part of the deal with .22 semis).

Trigger works for me. Shoots quite well. Able to plink an 8-inch steel plate at 50 yds without too much trouble.

So for those looking for a fun .22 semi pistol, consider the M&P.

In Idiotifornia, of course, it's not on the "roster", so you'll have to buy it in a private sale. I got mine a few months before it dropped off the list.

actually, rifles marked with Santa Fe as the maker are a minor niche collector's item, as the receivers were made by a company in Pasadena, CA, of all places, with the parts coming from overseas...

Acquired a fun old revolver now, a Colt New Service which is one of the last of the breed just before WWII. It probably has prior govt. service due to markings and states but will have to have it lettered from Colt to find out. It is one big chunk of metal and mine is a .38 SPC which won't phase it a bit. 181 Good info/advice from redc - check the situation in your state, and with the manufacturer/gunsmith/etc in question.

I don't think the *federal* situation is in question - if you own a firearm, it can return directly to you from another party (esp. an FFL) to whom it was sent for service/etc.

But as firearms are a uniquely abandoned/abused part of the constitutional/civil rights landscape, states and municipalities as yet have pretty free reign in harassing and wronging firearm owners.

190 whig, reloading is great for many reasons. Would think a serious gun hobbyist/tinkerer like you would enjoy it and exploit all the advantages. I have no oddball calibers, but several expensive ones (30-06, 30 carbine, 54R), and reloading takes all the sting out of that situation. Plus it's fun. Actually my pile of Soviet 54R surplus is so big that reloading that lies in the distance, if ever. Though I probably should start, since I hear tell one can make very nice accurate but softer-recoiling rounds.

And one guy had that Ruger 9mm PCC with the heat shield that makes it look very much like a PPsh-41. He had an $18 red-dot on it. Could hold it on the steel plate @ 50 yds and "shoot, ding! shoot, ding!" until the mag ran dry. Ridiculous. More like a video game than real shooting.

This thing, just put the rifle up to your shoulder, with as much relief as you please, or just move around - dot was there instantly, never lost it.

Am thinking when I get around to finally building my generic 100-yd AR, I might go crazy and put this $18 red dot on it, just to live large.

229 167, Santa Fe and some of the other worse folks like Federal Ordnance, Bannerman, etc. have uneven quality control and some folks have had problems with them. Bannerman made some frankenguns that were pipe bombs waiting to happen and you still see some people obliviously shooting and bragging about them. Federal Ordnance made some stinky receivers that have kaboomed on folks in the 1903. Others have used rewelded receivers, fire damaged receivers, and some chambered these surplus rifle receivers in inappropriate cartridges.

Part of the issue was that a lot of times the importers mixed commercial aftermarket parts with original surplus which made suckers of a lot of folks thinking they were buying collectibles.

Nearly 100 years later, some folks collect hideous Bannerman frankenguns, some get the Garands that have been rewelded or using soft cast receivers, and some get kabooms like the Federal Ordnance 1903's which had substandard receivers because the rest of the parts are new GI issue looking pretty good. I'm sure that some folks collect Mitchell's Mausers which at least are safe if of dubious historical value. From what I recollect, Santa Fe made some sporters out of Mausers, and the fake Jungle Carbines.

From what I've seen at auctions, the faux model brings about what a poor grade original milsurp no. 5 would bring that was a wall hanger. There are a lot of sporterized military rifles right not going for parts salvage prices as the large parts warehouse run dry of original spare parts.

234 VIA, what you said - but seriously, how 98% of *all* gun laws across the country survive any constitutional scrutiny is not a mystery, more like a definitive condemnation of our system. It's laughable. Even using the absurd, let's-make-up-our-own-powers "level of scrutiny" garbage the courts have invented for rewriting the constitution - very hard to think of a law that passes *any* level.

I well recall the counsel of "patience" when Heller came down. That it would take some time to filter down through the "system".

Um.

Not only is there no "filtering down" apparent - there is outright contemptuous defiance of SCOTUS.

Not our topic, but this and other examples are why I am thrilled but completely skeptical about all the judicial appointments. The *system* is off the rails. Changing personnel might be - might be - a band-aid, but it's a battlefield expedient, not a "fix".

As for the Space Force name, rocketeer is the only thing that sounds halfway decent to me. This is all going to have to decided and codified before all the personnel can be transferred to the new service branch.

It turns out there is only one real, official member of the Space Force, and that's the commander, who is called the Chief of Space Operations, CSO. This is at the Joint Chiefs of Staff level. Note this parallels the Navy, with the Chief of Naval Operations.

He's a 4-star general. So it seems "general" will the term for the flag level officers, but that's not set in stone.

Sci-fi, ala Star Trek seems to go with naval ranks, and not army style. If we ever have actual military space ships, then I'd say go with naval style.

Anyway, all this is up in the air for the Space Force, and the Pentagon has crowdsourced this.

No, the limit is 5 rounds.
It does not matter if it is a bolt action rifle or a little .22, the limit is 5 rounds.

Yes, unfortunately. We are witnessing in plain sight the contemptuous defiance (I LIKE that phrase - appropriate) of the Constitution by the Democrats in the House. During the Shampeachment, they would not allow the President to call witnesses, or any basic protections that we call "rights".

This continues now with state level legislators ignoring obvious 2A rights in these new draconian laws being proposed and passed.

The twist is that this is a Kentucky or North Carolina pattern head, one of the old-school shapes that are no longer manufactured. Unmarked, so not a big collectors item, but seems to me to be in decent condition, though I may need to re-profile the edge some.

269 I really enjoy shooting .22's, I compete in .22 Steel Challenge the first Saturday of each month, using a heavy barrel Browning Buckmark with a decent Burris Red dot sight and a S&W M&P AR-15-22 with a red/green dot sight and have a lot of fun going through at least 500 rounds of .22 ammo each month.

I am old now, in my mid 70s and only shoot 20 ga. for skeet and birds, I still pad my shoulder and work up various hi-power rifle scope combinations but the most fun I am having is shooting .22 LR, we have about a dozen who compete each month and I was surprise to win 3rd place in both pistol and rifle for the year at the end of 2019. My suggestion to old gun guys is to get out and shoot as often as possible and have a lot of fun.

PS, I am also on my church security team here in Texas just because.

Gulliver's Travels.
The State intends to bind the citizens with millions of tiny "cords", any one of which is of no (or limited) consequence. The State has infinite judicial (tax-payer) resources to defend each cord, while the mere citizen has extremely limited resources to defend himself against the plethora of "very reasonable" safety laws/regulations!

The Pentagon has ruled out "spaceman" and "space cadet". Not gonna do it. Space cadet has connotations of course.

There is "spacers" though, and that doesn't seem to be ruled out.

The CSO is Gen. John Raymond, formerly an Air Force General.

Again, he is the only official member of the new 6th service branch. He has 16K people transferred under his command, but they are still in the Air Force.

They will not be official spacers until they work all this nomenclature and rank structure out. When it is complete, Navy and Army personnel will be transferred over as well.

291 The current version drops the "assault rifle" registration nonsense, but
still prohibits new sales and makes owning suppressors and magazines
with a capacity of more than 12 rounds, a felony.

IIRC, according to an appeals court ruling, you may safely ignore any unconstitutional law which claims to be able to take away your Constitutional rights. Such laws are nullity and don't exist as far as the law is concerned.

The only felony involved with above VA law is the one committed by the Governor, Bloomberg, and the Democrats in the legislature when they conspired to oppress Constitutional rights with their Jim Crow law.

It is also a felony for any armed police officer to deprive you of any Constitutional right under color of their new law.

See 18 U.S. Code 241 and 18 U.S. Code 242 for confirmation. The above is for informational purposes only, and does not constitute legal advice. Talk to an attorney about these matters before you take any action.

292 rhomboid, It is more that I am adding a faster progressive press for reloading certain useful cartridges. I have a single stage, a hand press, and a turret. For most volume reloading, I use a turret right now because I have dies for my most reloaded cartridges on separate turret heads.

I have reloading dies, brass, bullets, powders etc. to reload about twenty or so rifle cartridges for milsurps and other rifles and I purposefully avoid expanding my handguns beyond the 4-5 that I reload for and that do well with reloading.

But, during the last panic, I found that 9mm bullets were hard to obtain as were .223 and .308. So was the ammo, as the shortages worn on, you could not then find the 7.5 Swiss for example or the 6.5 Carcano due to ammo and component mfg. going to the most popular cartridges.

So, I want to make sure that I have plenty of components to reload cartridges that will be in demand during the next shortage and buy adequate stocks of those that cannot be reloaded (.22 LR and .22 WMR). That means concentrating on being able to reload useful cartridges for social occasions in a hurry--that means a progressive press. My lesser toys will have to survive on scant rations in such a panic and I can probably buy them while others are panic buying the popular cartridges. Fortunately, most of my rifles use bullets that work between families--.308, .311, etc.

First, move out of NYC if you can, but you know this.
But when in NYC I had a guy take a Marlin 1894 with normal capacity (9-11 depending on whether loading .38s or .357s) and you can have the magazine tube "plugged" in a semi permanent way that limits it to 5 rounds.
Then if/when you move out of NYC you can convert it back to the way God intended it.

328 FYI,

There is current a case before the Supreme Court that might or might not shed some light on the 2A--It is the NY Rifle and Pistol Assoc. v. NY City. It has been briefed and argued, however, NY City and the State of NY colluded in trying to get the case dismissed as moot by changing the regulation and state law at the last minute.

The question is what level of scrutiny is applicable, the 2nd Circuit applied Heller/MacDonald in the narrowest way possible and used an odd two step intermediate scrutiny analysis. Other circuits have done something similar such as the 1st, 4th, and 9th to some degree. One of the questions is whether or not one has a constitutional right to carry outside of the home, if so, does the state have discretion or must issue on permits or is no permit required at all to carry. Then, there is the whole semi-automatic rifle question and so on. Might get some answers as several other cases are also close to being considered by the court on the 2A.

One of the questions is whether or not one has a constitutional right to carry outside of the home, if so, does the state have discretion or must issue on permits or is no permit required at all to carry. Then, there is the whole semi-automatic rifle question and so on. Might get some answers as several other cases are also close to being considered by the court on the 2A.

rhomboid, I haven't shot it a lot but I use my standard 45 Colt round in the lever action. It's a 250 grain lead semiwadcutter over 8 grs. of Unique. It's comfortable even in the Ruger Vaquero. It's a pussy cat in the rifle.

I've used this 45 Colt load for decades and it has always done the job without excessive recoil. The only other load I use in 45 Colt is black powder with that same 250 grain bullet.

I just hate what they're going to go through with the song thing. You know damn well there's really only the choice between Space Oddity and Rocket Man, and both those songs and their authors just plain suck as hard as the 20th century was capable.

399 Well, I messed with the Chinese mystery pistol again this afternoon. Still cannot get it to pop the primer in an unloaded cartridge. The mechanism of this piece is an exact copy of an FN model 1900, except scaled up to suit the .30 Mauser bottle-neck cartridge.

I am beginning to think that removing the slug and powder from the cartridge acts to screw up the headspacing, and also allows the impact of the firing pin to simply knock the empty brass forward a little in the chamber, instead of deeply dimpling the primer brass. It dimples the primers a little, but not enough.

419 > 160 what's the deal with the Glock 42 trigger?
Posted by: vmom 2020

I'm learning to shoot more than 1 shot accurately and my trainer tells me I have to keep the trigger depressed after I fire then let it slide forward until I feel the reset. (If my finger moves off after I fire then, when I put the finger back on the trigger it's probably not in the same place and I lose a lot of accuracy.)

then I can fire again.

Fine. Except I've never tried shooting like that before and I have to REALLY CONCENTRATE to keep my finger on the trigger.

It's not that hard to do with my Glock 17. The 42 makes it a challenge!
