120 Morning all. Awesome seeing President Trump at the NH rally last night. Place was packed. Heard on news even some VIP guests (local politicians, etc.) couldn't get in because there were no more seats available.
His speech only lasted 1 hour. Walking out many around me commented that it was a shorter than the rally he held in August here in NH. Turns out he had to leave to go to Dover AFB to welcome home the two soldiers killed over the weekend.Must be hard going from such a high being around by energized fans to going to do one of the toughest things he has to do.

For a work like this, not long. This type of Impressionism is meant to be completed quickly. However, it looks as though the artist spent some time on the face, more than the rest of the painting. Interesting.

We should revisit the battleship concept with railguns. 2 mounts forward, one mount rear, enough armor to stay afloat after repeated hits from its own weaponry, enough surface to air missiles to make pilots shit themselves at the prospect of attacking it, and our new (in-testing) laser anti-missile / anti-drone system.

Like the original, you could park it on a patch of sea and simply shut down any traffic you didn't want - only the longer range makes that a hundred mile radius. As part of a carrier battle group, air attack becomes an even worse idea.

As a shore bombardment platform, we'll save a fortune on cruise missiles.

Our faces, probably more than anything else, are the outward images of our individuality. Hands are a close second. When an artist hides the face or omits it all-together, the implication is usually that the artist feels the figure has been robbed of his/her humanity, or is supposed to represent the every-man, OR that the figure is no longer human at all, but a robot going about its programmed tasks. It depends on the context of the work.

Here, the face is half hidden. The lower face is in great detail but the top half, where the eyes would be, is in deep shadow. This was most likely painted en plein aire, so the shadows are probably accurate. I need to think about it some.

Posted by: Cato, Collectivism Delenda Est

Go further. Enough ECM to make flyers miserable. Laser point-defense for missiles, drones, etc. Whole damn thing will be nuke powered, natch, but once you go railgun that's a given.

Add some cruise missile capabilities and you've got an impressive weapons platform that can cover several missions, so long as those missions all involve destroying things.

Go further. Enough ECM to make flyers miserable. Laser point-defense for
missiles, drones, etc. Whole damn thing will be nuke powered, natch,
but once you go railgun that's a given.

Add some cruise missile capabilities and you've got an impressive
weapons platform that can cover several missions, so long as those
missions all involve destroying things.

Posted by: Brother Cavil Tim at February 11, 2020 10:15 AM (OUMaO)

I did actually mention the laser anti-missile/drone defense.
Figured the nukes were obvious - anything with more than one rail gun
and lasers on top is going to need some serious power. ECM's definitely
a good idea too.

Slightly OT -- If you actually see light flashes around your field of vision, particularly at night and confined to one eye, see an eye doctor as soon as possible. Something, usually a "floater" in the eye's vitreous humor, may be impinging upon its retina. It happened to me once while walking our dog after dark and it was freakish.

He mostly posted in evenings, particularly on the ONT. He was very tech savvy, as I recall and would help others suss out problems on their equipment.

514 This is Cthulhu's comment:

Ace was better when it was Ace.

Contrary to your thesis, CBD demands that readers pay homage to conventional visual artists of the past. The shortened comment periods are designed to capture just the right amount of bowing and scraping. The entire premise of CBD's posts is, "here is a thing of beauty that I, an enlightened one, have found to bless your sordid existence."

You say "Being Ace, the commentators don't hold back." - but 60% of the commenters from Ace's Golden Age are gone, run-off by CBD and his friends. They don't hold back because they're gone.

There's always a fair amount of commenter turnover on any site. I've been here since just after Teh Ewok migrated over to mu.nu from wordpress and people have been bitching that AoS isn't the same anymore since the day I started reading.

It's easy to avoid being canned at the HQ. Don't be an asshole. Well... don't be more of an asshole than we all are. Doesn't require bowing and scraping either.
