The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

A lot of us morons got to listen to PDT's victory lap speech yesterday, and it was a thing of beauty (If you didn't see it televised, you can watch a rerun of it here). What was good to see was how much he talked about his supporters. I mean, Donald Trump is supposed to be this big, raging egomaniac, right? Always promoting himself, never thinks about anyone but himself, but he spent a good 45 minutes NOT talking about himself. Instead, he expressed his gratitude toward and highlighting the efforts of his supporters and political allies who stood by him during the sham impeachment clown show.

(Just like Trump is a corrupt, greedy bastard who only ran for President to enrich himself, even though he donates his entire salary to charity. I mean, it's almost like they're just flat-out LYING about him.)

Naturally, all of the MSM talking heads started shrieking hysterically. The progressives are still walking around in the impeachment skin demanding respect, and Trump just dropped his pants and mooned them. And you know, that's the thing they probably hate most about him. Not that they hate his policies, they certainly do, but more than that, because he won't bow down and acknowledge the progressives' moral superiority, and worse, calls them out for the frauds and charlatans they are. I think that's the main reason why their TDS is so over the top REEEEEEEEE!! Just like he refuses to pretend that the MSM is some kind of impartial broker of the news. The more they shout "Respec' mah authoritah!!", the louder he laughs at them.

Anyway, Trump sounded happy, relaxed, having fun, joking around, etc. The only thing he didn't do is hand out commemorative Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff bobble-head dolls.

They also have the vapors because Rush Limbaugh was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the SOTU. The Democrats are probably mad because they had to be there for it. I mean, think about it, Trump could've just held a small ceremony for Rush in the Oval Office and it probably wouldn't have been covered by any news outlet except Fox. But the Democrats had to sit there and watch while one one of the highest honors this country can give was bestowed on one of their most hated enemies. In fact, before the Age of Trump, liberals hated Rush the worst. He was their number one bad guy. They did everything they could to shut him up, boycott him, get him taken off the air, but nothing worked. They tried to cancel him via pressuring his advertisers, but Rush hired some internet sleuths to analyze what was going on and they found out that all of the noise was being generated by maybe a dozen activists, i.e. it wasn't a grass roots protest, but rather an Astro-turfing scam.

Rush actually published the results of that investigation on his site, but I've since lost the link.

Some EIB advertisers did get frightened into dropping Rush as a sponsor, but he was able to replace them without too much difficulty.

Anyway, Rush has been inflicted pain on the Democrats for over 3 decades, just by calling out liberal bullsh1t, and for them to have to sit there and watch him honored at the SOTU must have been especially galling. They probably felt thay PDT was rubbing their noses in it.

Which he probably was.

27 CNN's @JohnJHarwood on Trump's post-acquittal press conference: "It was dark because he's made clear that his mind is dark. This is somebody in deep psychological distress right now. Self-pitying, insecure, angry."

We clearly weren't watching the same conference. Trump spent a vast bulk of his time thanking people - I mean, just heaping the praise onto people with a grain shovel.

Maybe 20% of it was dedicated to lambasting his opponents. They deserved more and worse.

I think that what has them scared is some of the hints Trump dropped - namely "they all started talking" or whatever the exact language was.

I sure hope that pans out.

46 News out, another Emoluments lawsuit from the Congressional dems failed in court today. What drives me crazy is that the news story about it says "The Constitution bars presidents from accepting things of value, or emoluments, from foreign governments without congressional consent."

No,, that is NOT what the Constitution says! That is what the clowns filing the lawsuit CLAIM it said! Emoluments are a specific type of payment, well known in the 18th and 19th centuries. They are NOT an exchange of money for goods and services, never have been. That's why all of these lawsuits based on it have gone nowhere.

It's a standard Democrat attack, they change the meaning of a word to suit themselves, and then they press this huge attack based on their fake definition, and then they feign outrage at anyone who challenges their fake definition.

65 All the descriptions of Trump's celebration yesterday are much more applicable to Pelosi. She's so stressed and emotional, you can see it is eating away at her.

What really baffled them was that Trump didn't single out people like Susan Collins for praise. Gee, why would he waste time recognizing and thanking people who have stood by him and been fierce fighters of Team Coup/Impeachment from the beginning when he could be thanking a Senator who was more interested in the appearance of bi-partisanship than preventing a coup? That's a head-scratcher!

Air Force Colonel Set To Take Command Of Air Force One Base Jailed For Five Years On Child Pornography Charges

A decorated U.S. Air Force colonel slated to take command of the base that hosts Air Force One has been sentenced to five years in prison for receiving child pornography.

Mark Visconi, 48, of Fairfax, Virginia, was jailed on Friday after he pled guilty to receipt of child pornography in October. He was also sentenced to 15 years of supervised release in a federal court in Alexandria.

Visconi used the anonymous Tor network to download child pornography, according to a news release from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A forensic review of his laptop showed he had downloaded and viewed "numerous" pictures and videos of child pornography.

According to court documents, he also took 441 pictures on his own phone "focusing on the clothed buttocks" of underage girls. Some of these pictures were "upskirting" images and prosecutors said the girls did not appear to be aware they were being taken.

"This man not only deliberately sought out illicit content, he produced and distributed it. He made himself a participant in this cruel, abhorrent industry that exploits the most the vulnerable in our society -- our children," said Raymond Villanueva, Special Agent in Charge of ICE's Homeland Security Investigations.

Visconi won two Bronze Star medals for combat missions in Iraq, where he also trained Iraqi pilots on how to carry out counterinsurgency operations, USA Today reported.

Oh, there's another reason, too. Yes, it's stupid and wrong, but there is also literally no there there.

Trump International rebates to the US Treasury all profits from foreign governments for the duration of Trump's administration. I don't know the exact mechanism, but I think they do something like take the end-of-year net profit from the property, multiply it by the proportion of revenue at that property that came from foreign governments, then cuts a check to the Treasury.

Trump International - formerly owned Donald Trump, the hater of government and taxes - is *donating* foreign government profits to the US government to avoid any perception of conflict of interest.

And it is almost never reported.

Compare that behavior to Slow Joe and Family and tell me where the corruption is.

133 Note that the Emoluments case was thrown out on an issue of Standing, which is often misunderstood. But it is really quite simple, and is a tool the courts use to get rid of bullshit cases. Simply put, if you want to file a case in Federal Court, you have to show how you were personally harmed by the actions you're filing a case about. If you are not personally affected by the actions you are claiming are wrong, then you have no standing to bring a case to Court based on those actions. It's a gatekeeper requirement to throw out claims from people who just want to make trouble.

316 listened last night to xm breitbart and the hostess( can't think of her name) was telling about the individuals she knew that attended the Iowa caucuses and watched how they worked. They said that Bernie's caucus had a large group of individuals who looked more like Antifa goons than candidate supporters. Purple hair, nose rings, ear discs, a pretty rough looking crowd. Then caucuses like Klobuchar, Biden, etc. had middle age to retirement age people who likely spent their entire year planning to caucus because they always have. When they saw Biden had just a few supporters, they wandered over to Bernie's group, took one look , and said hell no, so then they went to Mayor Pete's.

These people have zero idea about the candidates. They show up and expect to have the candidates/supporters tell them all about the candidate and then they decide if they are nice people or not and vote for them. So they get frightened off of Bernie because of his goons, and simply go to the next big crowd at Pete's because they look more normal.

This is how you have the woman who voted for Pete but didn't know he was gay and married to a man.

What was frustrating was that XM hostess had a guest with her that thought caucusing was great, it was the true American system and who also thought this is how we should be voting in actual elections. She set him straight about the need for secret ballots, but good lord, the stupidity.

Do I think Nancy Pelosi prays for Trump every nigh?t Well, I don't know, but I'm skeptical. And anyway, since she has been trying to impeach him since he became President, I don't think "Please, Lord may be impeached and give our Congress the power to do that" is a prayer that's in keeping with a Christian understanding as found in James 1:5 that leaders might have wisdom, direction and discernment so that we might live in Godliness and Righteousness. You don't even have to like a President to pray for him. if you go in Episcopalian and Eastern Orthodox Churches among others they pray for the President without specifics every week.

The only way I'd watch the Dim Debate is if they actually asked questions that would encourage the knives to come out against each other.

Never happen though, because all questions asked of Dims must be soft and pillowy and never challenge them on anything.

How many, like e.g. Fidelio, feature people cross-dressing and no one wonders about the chick with five o'clock shadow and "Mom" tattooed on her arm, until all is resolved at the denouement?

I'm Jewish and the synagogues I have attended are conservative, reform and reconstructionist (I lean far more toward the conservative sect, but I find the more conservative side of reform more than acceptable).

In all of them, there are two national-type prayers: a prayer for Israel (specific) and a prayer for the nation (wherever you happen to be - unless you're in Israel, and then there's only the one).

Both are generic appeals to the Lord for guidance and righteousness of national leaders, whoever they may be.

What gives me pause, though, is that they're quarantining tracts of China's industrial heartland. The economic consequences will be severe and they do very much care about that.

420 Almost all the plots and songs in operas sound idiotic when you understand them. Gilbert & Sullivan aren't but a lot are.

**Spock eyebrow**

A man must commit one evil deed every day or the spirits of his dead ancestors come back to life to force him: Ruddigore.

A woman falls in love with a sailor, who turns out to have been switched at birth with her own father: HMS Pinafore.

Two men draw from a deck of cards and the loser is declared legally dead: The Grand Duke.

I mean, I love the Savoy Operas, but there's a reason Gilbert's plots were labeled "topsy-turvydom."

That's exactly what this is.

Their whole response is what you'd expect of a single-party regime dealing with something like this.

The first stage was denial. There's nothing special about this little local virus, Dr. Li, sign these papers or else. They were hoping it'd burn out and the problem would go away.

The second stage was action. Admit the problem, downplay it, try to contain it early and bury any incriminating evidence once it's done.

Because of the Lunar New Year and related travel, this didn't pan out. The third stage is "oh, shit. Let's just keep our mouths shut, crush this thing no matter what it takes, and hope nobody calls us out on it."

Saving face is their primary motivator. They can't admit that this was caused by a mixture of illegal research and official incompetence.

Always thought there was some cognitive dissonance in a publication that professed to value the market economy, free enterprise, and going concerns, and yet conducting charity "pledge begs" on its website.

If you can't make it on your subscriptions and ad revenue without welfare (and especially if you're preaching a conservative(?) message of self-reliance), perhaps your business is not viable. EABOD.

480 No one's ever played Henry V as well as Branaugh has. I think of his delivery every time I see the St. Crispin's Day speech.

It's interesting how styles in Shakespeare performance change, or at least, our taste changes. Before Branagh, Olivier's Shakespearean style was the standard. Now you watch it, and the voice work sounds so artificial, almost strained. Branagh had a very natural style of delivery. (Actually, I think Richard Burton did too, if his performance in The Taming of the Shrew is anything to judge by.)

I don't know what comes next, I just suppose that one day Branagh's style will look outdated too.

But as long as the bean counter gets his millions, everything is fine.

I know it's not popular around here, but we should consider a law like Japan's that sets a maximum wage ratio. There, no worker in any organization can make more than 30 times the lowest paid. If the CEO is making a million a year, the janitor is getting 33,333.33 minimum. If he wants to give himself a raise, he has to give all of his workers a raise.

Maybe it's not a perfect idea, but I think it's a lesser evil than multimillionaire robber barons like Zuckerberg, Bezos, and Bloomberg that then use their obscene wealth to push for oligarchic collectivism.

532 I wish to make a "Moron Prediction":After the Dem's steal the delegates Bernie should have won in NH. Bernie will move his Presidential Campaign to being an Independent. He will forgo all future primary, work to get his name as an Independent on all the ballots. Then start beating the bushes for campaign contributions wherever aren't. Looking to nickel and dime his way to the White House off of millennial's lunch money.

534 Some EIB advertisers did get frightened into dropping Rush as a sponsor, but he was able to replace them without too much difficulty.

Didn't one of the leavers try to get back on Rush's show, and Rush turned them down? Carbonite?

535 I know it's not popular around here, but we should consider a law like Japan's that sets a maximum wage ratio.
