Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Democrat Operatives Don Lemon and Rick "Qatar Junket" Wilson Can Laugh at Ignorant Republicans, But, Weird Thing, Republicans Are Smarter Than DemocratsThis is obvious, but in case you need actual proof... The General Social Survey has a response rate ten to twenty times higher than a media poll. They ask about general knowledge and verbal ability. They also ask who the respondents voted for in 2016, Trump, Clinton, or someone else.On the verbal ability test (WORDSUM), not surprisingly the median number of vocabulary questions correct was the same for both Clinton and Trump supporters: 6 out of 10 words correct. The mean verbal ability score for Trump supporters was 6.15 words correct, while the mean verbal ability score for Clinton supporters was 5.69 correct, a difference of nearly a half a question on a 10-question test. This moderate difference is statistically significant at p<.0005. Further, Trump supporters score significantly higher on verbal ability (6.15 correct) than the rest of the public combined (5.70 correct), whereas Clinton supporters score significantly lower on verbal ability (5.69 correct) than the rest of the public combined (5.98 correct). This should not be too surprising. On the 22 General Social Surveys using the verbal ability scale since 1974, for every single one, conservative Republicans score significantly higher than the rest of the public combined. As for Republicans overall, they score significantly higher in verbal ability than Democrats in all five decades, including for the 2010s combined.More at the link. Bonus: The Trump campaign says you'll be seeing the Lemon/Wilson clip a lot this election cycle.

By the way, we all remember that this racist is also a sexual assaulter,
right? A man has filed suit claiming that Lemon rubbed his fingers in his filthy groin and then stuck him under the man's nose, forcing him to smell his balls. And that man's boss, who was a witness, confirms that happened. I heard the guy turned down a six figure payoff from Lemon. I hope this goes to court. Okay Trump voters are too stupid to be allowed to determine who's president, right?
Liz wants to prosecute people for "suppressing the vote" of people who were too dumb to know what day election day was or that they couldn't vote by text. She *specifically* mentioned these *jokes* (she didn't call them that) where people are making fun of ignorant people (in the true sense of the word) but "suppressing the vote" of people too stupid to know better or to check (they would have to be *online* after all). Well racists are generally pretty dumb, and Lemon obviously is quite dumb, so that tracks. And he's in a permissive environment - the press, "liberals" - especially for racism, and, well, ignorance and stupidity about public affairs.
My standard observation is that these people aren't very bright, but I know the consensus is they're 1) evil 2) just lining their pockets. All of the above are present in any group of humans. But the ignorance and low analytical ability, along with the racism and tribalism, are the leading markers of this group. Posted by: rhomboid at January 30, 2020 07:31 PM (El6T/) 22

In defense of Progda, Steve Cortes sometimes is a guest on CNN, and harassed and cut off accordingly. Steve is a big Trump guy, headed the Hispanics for Trump, or something like that, and is very smart and effective. Ok, my defense of Progda is over. Further, Trump supporters score significantly higher on verbal ability (6.15 correct) than the rest of the public combined (5.70 correct), whereas Clinton supporters score significantly lower on verbal ability (5.69 correct) than the rest of the public combined (5.98 correct).
--- I think the media's deceptions over what Trump means is probably a selecting factor here. The better you are with words, the less the media can force their interpretation of words on you. Posted by: Axeman at January 30, 2020 07:44 PM (DuZls) 117
I should know, but forget, whether the Chief Justice can be replaced by another justice - removal from the court is through impeachment. But CJ is different, just don't recall how, and too lazy to look it up.
Anyway, would be great for the country and the world if Roberts were removed as CJ. His smallness is an anchor on the court and the constitution even as the roster on the court improves dramatically. Posted by: rhomboid at January 30, 2020 07:45 PM (El6T/) 118

234, Quint, comment was willowed in previous thread.
Are you wanting a specific historian as a cob? Victor Hanson is probably about the closest that is out of the closet and he is more or less moving to the American Greatness website. Claremont still has some decent historians around and some were Jaffre's students. I knew a Harvey Mansfield student and a couple of Allen Bloom's students that were at least middle of the road. Michael Anton, while not an academic is pretty sound on history. The fact is that academia is overwhelmingly left and even more so in the liberal arts and while a few conservatives get hired now and again, they keep their heads down until they have tenure. Ironically, you see a few more political scientists as open conservatives than you do historians because math and statistical excellence can help publication records while history journals stds. are a bit more mushy. Sociology, forget it as well as Psych. I think that you would probably do better trying to recruit some of the folks on this blog to write one as a history post every day would be interesting. FWIW, Barbara Tuchman only had an MA in history but wrote some amazing books and there are others that are similarly excellent. Posted by: whig at January 30, 2020 08:08 PM (EUDB2) 291

412 There's going to be a brokered Democrat convention and Schiff is going to be put forward. This came up as a dinner conversation topic tonight with friends.
Posted by: corn and beans at January 30, 2020 08:28 PM (tkNkP) If I heard that at dinner, it would be tough keeping the food down. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at January 30, 2020 08:30 PM (sy5kK) 425

Maybe Alexander is pulling the same stunt that Collins played when she said she was voting for Kavanaugh?
Start the doubt, the undecideds, then announce a strong reasoned case for acquitting the President. Remember when Susan Colins did that. This is hopefully Alexander's "Moment to Shine." Posted by: rd at January 30, 2020 08:32 PM (+0uDE) 428
Awesome that Burgess Owens is running for Congress in Utah's 4th district and the only district w/ Dem. He was just on Tucker's show.

This is cool (at NewsThud): BREAKING: Utah State Rep. Proposes Bill to Allow Recalling U.S. Senators --- Damn straight! Posted by: Axeman at January 30, 2020 08:30 PM ----- Unconstitutional. It needs to be an Amendment to the Constitution. We also need an Amendment on Term Limits too. Posted by: rd at January 30, 2020 08:34 PM (+0uDE) 432

I have to take the subway tomorrow, but in the morning and not near Grand Central Station. In a way, I don't really care if they cause mayhem here. It's the stupidest thing I can imagine since NYC is a solidly Leftist government and citizenry. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at January 30, 2020 08:03 PM (zBaqJ) ------ If any of those idiots start a fire underground, expect to see lots of bodies. A fire underground with smoke is a miserable way to die. McConnell announced he had the votes to stop this. What the hell is Alexander playing at?
Posted by: J.J. Sefton at January 30, 2020 08:12 PM (zBaqJ) My go-to is that senators like to blather on and on, with no particular importance to be paid to any piece of their blatherings. If McConnell has the votes, he has them, and he is pretty good at rounding them up - McCain being his own contrary exception because McCain.
