From last thread, now on topic:
What I always found most amusing about Terry Jones was, in the Python sketches, when his character gets agitated, his voice goes up like two octaves. So you get this squeaky Welsh accent along with his dialog. It was almost like a live action cartoon at times. Loved it. He may have been a clueless lefty, like most Brits, but he was mostly harmless. Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, buy ammo. Yes, you. at January 22, 2020 02:18 PM (l4C/z) 40

absurdist humor has a big advantage over other types: It's nearly universal. Kids laugh at it, as do adults.

One of the best things that Python did was their introductions of sketches that had nothing whatsoever to do with their main sketch. The Simpsons was built around that principle. Yeah, but the reason isn't a lack of talent (I mean lets face it a lot of the cultural icons of the past were pretty much hacks) but saturation. Back when you could really only see a movie at the theater or really old ones on TV, there were 3 channels, and radio controlled music, you were pretty limited in your entertainment options. Today its like drowning in an ocean of entertainment, its hard for anything to stand out. The last real cultural touchstone was Harry Potter, which is why everyone kept referencing it. This was the era when blacks couldn't go to regular restaurants and such. The family's cook and house keeper had a brother that played in the band so when they came through they were welcomed in.
Cab asked the kid if he knew who he was and Bruce not only knew but had one of his records so he went upstairs and got it. Can signs it and all were merry. 296 "I kick myself regularly for not asking my parents and grandparents
questions, some very simple, about family history, their parents, places, times, etc.. Questions they would have been happy to answer. And now, it's too late." Maybe not. Didn't the Allegedly Greatest Generation pride itself on its stoicism and Not Talking About Things? I come from a family where all questions received, at best, a "Oh, I don't remember" or more usually a glacial stare and a "What business is it of yours?" So anything I learned about them, I found out accidentally. Posted by: Annalucia at January 22, 2020 02:54 PM (S6ArX) Thank you for this. Posted by: m at January 22, 2020 03:22 PM (M5wRT) 537

Carson was a very quick wit. No doubt he bit his tongue 10 times for every time he let a zinger go. He was always respectful to his guests. And, Victoria Principal.

Physical humor is probably the most purely Male humor of all.
The very first joke of all was probably "HA HA HA!!! THAG JUST GOT MAMMOTH TUSK UP BUM!!! HA HA HA!!!" Posted by: Tom Servo at January 22, 2020 03:03 PM (Kpl3J) ------ "Quest for Fire" depicted the invention of the practical joke. Posted by: Captain Obvious at January 22, 2020 03:23 PM (jW9oF) 541

So what is the Chief Justice doing while Schiff prattles on... just wait it out .and at the end state,
"So, Honorable Schitt, all the quote evidence endquote to impeach President Trump is #OrangeManBad?" "You do realize that to Impeach you need actual verifiable crimes, verifiable evidence, and verifiable evidence, usually in that order, that the President did in fact commit those crimes?" "After three years of in depth investigation, starting with an individual, trying to find a crime committed by him, and all you have is your personal opinions?" "As presiding Justice and suggest the full Senate move to vote for dismissal with prejudice for all crimes real or imagined through to the day at the hour of the vote." Nah, He'll sit there like a potted plant. Posted by: Burnt Toast at January 22, 2020 03:25 PM (1g7ch) 545

We didn't have the show on in Atlanta, early 70s. Would have been on it like flies on McCain's corpse, I tell you.
No. Instead we memorized all the Firesign Theater we could put our hands on. (33 1/3 LP or 8 track for the road.) At the time, they were hilarious. (It was hotter than Heater in Hooker today, and hotter than Hooker in Hellmouth.) I guess you had to be there. Posted by: Oh look! Squirrel! I think it's great. The contrast between the silliness versus the seriousness of the visuals in Holy Grail is what works to me. It subverts your expectations of what an Arthurian movie should be.============My favorite bits are from their other movies, probably because they don't get overused as much as all of Holy Grail. #1 is Biggus Dickus giving Brian his Latin lesson.
