Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Great: Gucci's New Fashion Line Has a Theme of... "Anti-Toxic-Masculinity"Oh right. I can see how that would work perfectly for, you know, clothes. How do you fight toxic masculinity with clothes, you ask? Simple. You just do what every designer's been doing for 30 years -- dress up men in effeminate clothing, including skirts and babydoll dresses.[F]or his Fall 2020 men's collection in Milan today, Michele boiled down his vision for Gucci to its essence. He wanted to capture the purity of childhood, back when carefree days weren't tainted by societal norms, particularly those relating to masculine ideals. ![]() That Hansel, he's so hot right now ![]() Why don't you derlichte my balls? Please find enclosed my written consent for derlichting my balls. The biggest surprise on Gucci’s fall 2020 men’s runway in Milan today wasn’t the lack of prints or the retro, boyish silhouettes, but the slogan written on the front of a simple white tee: “impotent/impatient.” The shirt was part of double-printed motif inspired by punk musician Richard Hell that also included a T-shirt that read, “thank/think.” Will men sport a top advertising impotency? So, if i have this right, you took the lazy hack "artiste" trick of just taking a hot-button buzzword and stenciling it on a white background -- "art" galleries are littered with a thousand "paintings" just consisting of the word "PRIVILEGE" -- and you just slapped it on a t-shirt? How daring. How artistic. Yes, it's totally over. In unrelated news, the top designer at Gucci is male and so is its CEO. Related: The "anti-manspreading chair" is back in the news again, because the "award" winning designer admits it won't actually accomplish the thing this ugly chair was designed to accomplish. violently toxic stereotypes," read the show notes. "A dominant, winning, oppressive masculinity model is imposed on babies at birth. Attitudes, languages and actions end up progressively conforming to a macho virility ideal that removes vulnerability and dependence. Any possible reference to femininity is aggressively banned, as it is considered a threat against the complete affirmation of a masculine prototype that allows no divergencies." Dunno about other cases, but in suit trousers, pleats make for more comfortable movement and sitting, and add service life by reducing stress on seams. All depends on the style and look. Don't think I have pleats on any non-suit pants except maybe one pair of khakis. Kind of adds a "dressed up" look to some extent, to.
Isn't the real "fashion" change in tiny things like this - pleats, lapel width, tie width, etc.? This bizarre crap at fashion shows has no connection to any commercial reality. The Irish have tartans, too. It isn't just Scotland. Although, except for very few, the whole "clan tartan" thing was invented out of whole cloth (ha!) by Sir Walter Scott. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at January 20, 2020 04:27 PM (Ki5SV) 341

I think the fashion world is just like Hollywood. Everyone's friends; in the bubble, they all agree with each other about everything, and everybody thinks everybody is brilliant. A model could come down the runway covered in mud and leaves and the designer would be feted like a Caesar.

My high school had strict rules on the hem line of girls dresses... then on Fridays in the football season, the cheerleaders would all wear their cheer outfits. Which had a hemline a good 2" above the minimum required line. And it was incredibly distracting. I think it was meant to encourage school spirit but it mainly encouraged guys to walk around with a book on their lap.

On the one hand, this is really funny. These people have become parodies of themselves. We should celebrate the fact that we have a society so prosperous that such asininity can be tolerated.
On a more serious note, I am not sure these people understand, and I'm quite certain that some in the woke set don't comprehend, that they exist ONLY because we tolerate them. For most of the Western world, it's been two generations now since there was any threat posed by the men with guns, and for most in the US, it's been a century and a half. So they forget that the men with guns exist. But exist we do, and these people should thank their lucky stars that we prefer peace and the rule of law to the alternative. Because in that alternative world, there isn't much room for this kind of silliness, or gender pronouns, or safe spaces. "when I was a Catholic school girl we worse navu blue skirts with "suspender" like thingies"
The girls had it tough at my Catholic high school (63-67). The sisters would make them kneel and their skirts had to touch the ground or they got sent home. Girls would pass inspection and then roll their waist area up an inch to show their knees. The funniest thing was when a girl would show up for school out of uniform with a note from a parent excusing them. The school would go along with it but the funny thing was, the clothing would always be WAY different from the blue skirt, white blouse uniform. Boys couldn't wear pants with brads (jeans). We had it easy. Posted by: Meremortal at January 20, 2020 04:54 PM (Bwqq4) 480

Is Tom Steyer a little teapot?
No, that's gotta be Nadler, short and stout. I still cannot get over the hilarity of the House sending over Nadler and Schiff to handle their case. That's literally the best they have. That's their A team. Lord love them. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 20, 2020 05:05 PM (KZzsI) 524

My Catholic school uniforms were always some variation of blue plaid skirt and white shirt, with the addition of a grey bla zer* in high school but when we lived in California for two years at the end of elementary school it was way different.
Royal blue skirt, white shirt with a sailor collar, and a jaunty red bow at the front of the collar. I would accessorize with red bows on the end of my braids. *Finally figured out why Pixy thought my post was spam. Posted by: bluebell at January 20, 2020 05:06 PM (/669Q) 528

Heh. My crowd dressed, in the 60s in a kind of anti commie hippy look. Dress trousers, button down shirt, London Fog windbreaker, polished wing tips. Sometimes dress trousers really sharply creased, Italian knit shirt, and spit shined Stetson shoes for that Youngstown Mafia look.

Posted by: tubal at January 20, 2020 04:53 PM (qhmX5) 80's kid. Wranglers - they sold 'em at the Dollar Store back then. Tee shirt - but not a concert shirt, because you had to have the money to go to the show back then. Chuck Taylors if I had time to go home before work, or work boots if I didn't. Dollar Store flannel over the tee if it was cold. Kinda' pissed me off when that turned into "the look" for grunge. Any man who is willing to dish out a beating and take beating will rule the future
This actually concerns me. I've been hit before, but it was never by anyone dangerous, nobody has beat the crap out of me. I don't know if I could take it or not. I managed to talk my way out of a few beatings in my past. I've never really been in a physical fight. Seems like I'm missing a punch hole in my man card. Now I'm 54 and not in great health so I don't think it would go well. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 20, 2020 05:03 PM (KZzsI) Taking a beating is super easy. All you have to do is survive. Does not matter if you were a mutual combatant or a surprise guest at your ass-beating, just survive. Now, how you deal with the aftermath is whether you are diminished as a man or not. Posted by: OneEyedJack at January 20, 2020 05:33 PM (z79tQ) 553
