Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Gun Thread: And So It Begins [Weasel]Virginia Motto: Sic Semper Tyrannis In anticipation of the assault on our right to keep and bear arms by the radical left, about eight weeks ago a remarkable grassroots phenomenon began to spread across the Commonwealth in the form of individual localities declaring themselves 2nd Amendment Sanctuaries. This was not a campaign conceived and executed by the marketing department of Big Gun, but rather an organic expression of the citizen's commitment to their Bill of Rights, and a repudiation of almost certain overreach by the government. As I write this, 91 counties and a total of 34 independent cities and towns have agreed with the voters, sending an unambiguous message to Richmond. Enough is enough. Over the last few days, radical leftist politicians in Virginia have filed a comprehensive array of proposed gun control legislation which should make all but the most committed anti-gun tyrant cringe. Think I'm exaggerating? Let's have a look. The links will take you to the legislative language.
On January 13th and 20th, the National Rifle Association and the Virginia Citizens Defense League are holding their respective Lobby Days in Richmond. A Lobby Day is traditionally a day when lobbyists meet with lawmakers to convince them to support a particular point of view. The NRA was a little late to the game, but as many as 20,000 people are expected in Richmond on the 20th for the VCDL event. Just last Friday, the Democrats began changing long-standing rules and have designated the Virginia Capitol and many of the surrounding buildings as "Gun Free Zones." It is entirely possible they will follow-up just before these planned events and declare the capitol grounds as "gun free" in order to create last minute confusion on the issue among attendees. Stay informed. As I mentioned before, these are Lobby Days. They are not Be a Badass or Start Some Shit Days. I will absolutely guarantee you that extremists on the left are going to be there in number to start trouble and make the pro-gun side look like the aggressor in any confrontation. One of my best friends and my main shooting buddy made a career as a network cameraman, and has covered countless rallies, demonstrations, civil disturbances and outright wars all over the world. Time after time he has seen first hand the tactics of the left, who will stop at nothing to cause you to lose your cool. Want to be on the evening news in a video edited to make you look like a aggressive gun-toting redneck? That can and will happen. If you are confronted, walk away. You will do more damage to the cause and give the left just what it wants if you get into as much as a shouting match. Think the media will cover any of this in a fair and unbiased manner? Think again. These events have the potential to go sideways in a hurry so keep your wits about you, do be safe, and do not be the star in a shitshow. This is simply about showing numbers. All eyes are on Virginia, which is why it is critical this not devolve into a riot. Believe me when I say the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary movement has the attention of the legislature, and tens of thousands of people in Richmond will be very difficult to ignore. The time for vigorous protest will come later. In the meantime, for those of you in Virginia, let your local government officials know you are engaged and serious about the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary declarations. Let them know you expect them to follow through on their commitments, and that you are available to help in any way possible. Whatever happens in Richmond during the upcoming Lobby Days, and even later, will not be the end of the matter. Regardless of which laws are eventually passed, and some or all of these will be, it is not over. The unconstitutional measures being considered, if passed into law, will be challenged in court - a process likely to take years. Keep in mind FFL's and other businesses will have to immediately comply with any new laws and restrictions as they become effective later this year, so think long term and plan accordingly. I have been encouraging you all to buy ammo for damn near forever, and one of the suppliers I like is SG Ammo, a family owned and operated business in Stillwater. Oklahoma. Their prices are good, and their service is great with orders filled and shipped quickly. I have never had a problem with an order, so I have never had to contact their customer service, which I understand is excellent. The owner has published an Ammo Market Outlook which is worth a look [h/t redc1c4]. I'm really seriously not kidding around anymore. Even though we had super nice weather up here in the NorthEast I opted to go to the indoor range as opposed to the outdoor range I belong to to save 2 hours of travel time.I put 150 rounds down range. 50 at 7 yards, 50 at 10 yards and 50 at 15 yards.I sent pics to Weasel rather late so maybe next week ya'll can see how I did.

Here in Oregon, we expect the Democrats to resurrect all the garbage legislation that triggered a Republican walkout in the state senate last year. That includes some severe restrictions on firearms rights. Hopefully the state GOP maintains enough cohesion to throw up any needed roadblocks. I don't expect Oregon will ever have a conservative majority, or even a strong plurality, ever again. I would pack up and move, but there are too many issues with that - especially at my age - to make that a practical solution.

Yeah, two other big ones are: - Near total ban on indoor ranges - Near total ban on outdoor ranges, *and* on shooting outdoors on private property. People aren't going to abide by the "show up and don't look like a mad max extra" thing; they're pissed, and what the Dems are doing in VA is a deliberate attempt to push people into insurrection. Matt Bracken has warned that he thinks a false flag operation is a very real possibility.
On another note, shot IDPA for the first time in many months, yay! Shockingly enough, I did pretty well shooting the abbreviated qualifier. Still doesn't mean I moved up a classification, but, I managed to keep my shots strings inside the "1 down" zone with over half my shots inside the "0" down ring..while making the final shot, which was a head shot. The shooting distance for the qualifier was maybe 10 yards. Then, to top things off, there was a stage that was a "Mozambique" drill. Started with 6 rounds in the magazine, two to the body, reload, head shots on the initial three targets, then shoot the rest of the stage. Had a great time, though, as usual, there were a couple of stages that were on the humbling side.

This weekend the organizer of our church's security team told me that a new attender is uncomfortably gung-ho about participating in the security team.
Many of us in the community have known this fellow and his family for decades, know they are upstanding and contributing members of the community, and have no reason to doubt his motives. However, I have observed some autistic or Asberger-y tendencies in him and at least one of his brothers. I think this explains his fixation on the security team. About three years ago while Sessions was getting side-lined Trump should have put him on a mission to aggressively prosecuted violations of civil rights. With crowd pleasing targeting of small town deputies harassing passers through to big (NE) city prosecutors doing same they could have established good precedent for jailing the modern day Klan wannabees. By now they could have flanked the deep state and attacked from the rear... and cut off the attempts at civil right violations that democrats have always advanced Such as in VA now. Gun rights advocates MUST make clear to everyone else that 4th Amendment (privacy) rights are destroyed by legislation requiring "Universal Background Checks" for gun purchases.
"Universal" means that EVERYBODY, whether they now own guns or might ever want to buy a gun, is "in the system" with a background that is available to gun sellers and police to be "checked". Ever take pain killers that say you shouldn't operate dangerous machinery? That's part of the "background" that goes into the records system. Ever get a speeding ticket -- operating dangerous machinery in an unsafe manner? In the system. Bad debts? Registered to vote third party? (There's a "Red" flag for you, comrade!) So this is my take on how this will go down - if it even goes down. Virginia men - regardless of Virginia's storied history, have become so emasculated that they'll roll over at the first sign of danger singing patriotic songs dripping with 'Merica"-based jingoism "Battle Hymn of the Republic, Dixie, Proud to be an American" all the way down until Tulsi Haley (Nikki, Tulsi - same frikin thing) jumps in and saves the day with a moving speech - thus preventing the inevitable fight and catapulting her to the 2024 nomination. Prove me wrong - East Coast sissy boys.

Virginia must prove they are WORTHY of the 2nd Amendment. This could be the 2nd 'shot heard round the world'. If they prove themselves, volunteers from the other 49 will journey there knowing they are fighting not only for Virginians but for all America. Schoolhouse Rock - "The Shot Heard Around the World" "The British are coming! The British are coming! Now, the ride of Paul Revere Set the nation on its ear And the shot at Lexington heard 'round the world When the British fired in the early dawn The War of Independence had begun The die was cast, the rebel flag unfurled And on to Concord marched the foe To seize the arsenal there you know Waking folks searching all around Until our militia stopped them in their tracks At the old North Bridge we turned them back And chased those Redcoats back to Boston town And the shot heard 'round the world Was the start of the Revolution The Minutemen were ready, on the move Take your powder, and take your gun Report to General Washington Hurry men, there's not an hour to lose! Now, at famous Bunker Hill Even though we lost, it was quite a thrill The rebel Colonel Prescott proved he was wise Outnumbered and low on ammunition As the British stormed his position He said, "Hold your fire until you see the whites of their eyes!" Though the next few years were rough General Washington's men proved they were tough Those hungry, ragged boys would not be beat One night they crossed the Delaware Surprised the Hessians in their lair And at Valley Forge they just bundled up their feet! And the shot heard 'round the world Was the start of the Revolution The Minutemen were ready, on the move Take your blanket, and take your son Report to General Washington We've got our rights and now it's time to prove Well, they showed such determination That they won the admiration Of countries across the sea like France and Spain Who loaned the colonies ships and guns And put the British on the run And the Continental Army on its feet again And though they lost some battles too The Americans swore they'd see it through Their raiding parties kept up, hit and run At Yorktown the British could not retreat Bottled up by Washington and the French Fleet Cornwallis surrendered and finally we had won! The winner! Hurray! From the shot heard 'round the world To the end of the Revolution The continental rabble took the day And the father of our country Beat the British there at Yorktown And brought freedom to you and me and the U.S.A.! God bless America, let freedom ring!" Posted by: Sapwolf at January 12, 2020 07:49 PM (nuv3n) 119
What's the best possible outcome for a large public 2nd Amendment rally in Richmond? People already know the potential downside -- possible ambush by a leftist mob with police protection, false-flag, media hatchet job etc. But if everything went perfectly -- in what ways will the cause be advanced? What are legislators in the capital, or people watching at hone, going to do differently as a result? The Left is vicious and crazy. They prove it every day. If they are bound and determined to turn this into a shit show, what's going to stop them? This is their turf, they control the cops, they control the mainstream media, they have no principles, and they've had months to prepare. I hope it goes well, I really do. Now, under the law, you have no expectation of Privacy once it goes into third party hands. And the Federal and State Governments can and do get access to LOTS of data through Google. America was born of violence.
America has survived through violence. Yet generations have been carefully taught that such violence is not only regrettable, but fundamentally evil. They don't understand that rights may be God given, but they may only be kept through violence (or at least the implicit threat of violence.) Take away the implicit threat of violence that the 2A codifies, and ALL other rights go straight out the window. God given or not. Posted by: Warai-otoko at January 12, 2020 08:02 PM (Ct55T) 154

Also, in regards to me getting a rifle. I just may have to hold off buying one for a bit. Some other priorities have been popping up so that purchase is being pushed back.Because I live in NYC I am going to keep with getting a bolt action chambered most likely in .308. That way there is less chance of the City getting its knickers in a bunch.

I DID get to the range, and it was very good. Good for the soul.
This week's drill was 'single shot to the head'. The focus was on getting the natural point of aim identified and being able to put the gun on target and put a single shot through the head to put down a bad person. After 50 rounds of full power rounds, I switched the upper back to .22 and did Mozambique drills at 5 and 7 yards. A good day at the range. I'm looking forward to buying the Glock 44. Ben Had, can't say I have ever been on a cattle ranch. Being a suburban/city boy I think the closest I have ever been to cattle has either been when my parents moved back to Florida before the area around Orlando was built up in the 80's and their were cattle across the road from their development, or when I visited Catch Thirty The33 in Amarillo and we drove by a HUGE amount of cattle not to far from where he lived. So think of me as Billy Crystal in City Slickers, though not as short and less funny. The more I look at mine, the more I wonder how the hell they make them for the price. Now, on a serious note. I've had the itch for an AR pistol, with brace. Went to look at another one this week, and sure enough, the guy had "Built" it. Trouble is he started with a rifle lower, thus making it a non registered short barreled rifle. I wish they would get rid of that bit of stupidity. Anyway, picking up a Ruger factory AR pistol tomorrow, with brace. Needs sights, I'll figure out what I want.

I'll do this backwards. Gun stuff, then law stuff.
Guy at work and I start talking about the gun laws (it was up on my screen) and I find out he is gun friendly. And he just built an AR15 pistol. And he decided to do .300 Blackout instead so now he has an extra pistol upper in 5.56. Do I want it? Like for free. Umm, YES. I WANT IT. And because guys have a code of honor, can't take something of real value totally free, I purchased some packaged adult beverages, not nearly the value of a complete upper but now I don't feel guilty. So now I have to procure a pistol lower. PSA has them very cheap, and turns out a very close gunstore is one of two preferred vendors for PSA, so I can just select that on checkout. This is good news. Since I was in that gunstore to ask about their transfer policies, I picked up 5 boxes of 9. Because I can't get it at Walmart anymore. Posted by: Gref at January 12, 2020 08:22 PM (AMIL/) For a 'car gun' you can go a little larger than for concealed carry. A magnum revolver isn't a bad choice or a big .45 (the latter is my car gun). FX 45 Glock 20 or 21 XD45 If you want to go 9mm, the SIG P320 is reliable, though mine is a full size. The 226 or the AREX Zero One also makes a good car gun. Diamondback? Snagless sight on Sig 365? Posted by: westminsterdogshow at January 12, 2020 08:25 PM (/UQ/R) I would say 'no' in the Diamondback Snagless SIG 365 has mixed reviews, it does not seem to be an improvement over the normal or compact P320. For small pistols, look at SIG 365 or Springfield Armory Hellcat, just put a few boxes of ammo through to make sure you didn't get a lemon. or if money is a problem, go with the Taurus G2C. Seriously. Great pistol for $200. Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards at January 12, 2020 08:29 PM (d1uFV) 221

Looking for recommendations/suggestions for carrying while driving, either on-person or in the vehicle. I just got a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and there are lots of concealed or semi-concealed placement options. Guns: Either a 5-round, 3-inch barrel .357 revolver, or a Sig P229, or a Sig P320 compact. (And maybe all!) Thanks!

How long a barrel can we go and still have a pistol? Posted by: Burnt Toast at January 12, 2020 08:31 PM (1g7ch) I think 16" is min barrel length. Some mfgs get a little sneaky with shorter barrels + flash hider. Honestly, go with the longest barrel you can shoot well. 5.56 really loves longer barrel lengths. For pistols, no upper limit that I know of. It can't have a 'stock' or a fore-end since it has to be shootable with one hand to be a 'pistol'. I do have an AR pistol, without a real stock but a padded buffer tube for a cheekrest. With a red dot, it's pretty easy to use! But I mostly have it because people don't want me to. Now Virginia law stuff.
Lobby days. sra blaster and I are going on the 20th. Any NoVa morons interested in carpooling see if you can raise me here. Right now, we have room for 2 pax. As to the showing up with guns at the Lobby Day, the General Assembly passed and Governor Blackface has already signed a law making the capitol area a gun-free zone. So carrying, concealed or open, in those areas (the Capitol building and some other office buildings nearby including the legislative office building and I think the grounds) is a felony. So there's that. The laws being passed are straight up harassment for gun owners. This is NOT about safety. Like the gunfree zone at the capitol - they passed that first specifically because of the lobby days. Also, one not listed in Weasel's list above is a prohibition on indoor gun ranges in buildings where there are more than 50 employees (when the employees are less than 90% law enforcement officers). Heard the proponent of the law saying that "people should not get used to carry guns and ammunition into buildings where people work." (eerie foreshadowing music on concealed carry) The only indoor range in the state that this would affect is the range at NRA HQ (where I go to shoot). A place I am pretty sure people are used to carrying guns into and out of. But I digress. This law is narrowly written to impact the NRA. These people are out to rub our faces in it. And they don't care that the masks are off - the masks are off. They do not fear reprisal at the ballot box, either. Posted by: blaster at January 12, 2020 08:34 PM (ZfRYq) 236

It seems that the Left has learned its lesson quite well. I count 11 separate bills. This means that, even if 1 of them is gutted or found unconstitutional, the other 10 are completely untouched ... and untouchable. A completely new suit must be filed, and that requires someone with standing, which requires ... But, since all 11 will be passed by the same clown posse, can intent and/or conspiracy be argued in the first or any subsequent suit to add the remaining laws to the current suit? And, while we're at it, can/why haven't any of the clowns who pass these laws be charged in Federal court for subverting/conspiracy to deny one or more the plaintiff's constitutional rights? I prefer "all" to "any", but one should get things started. The state clowns may be protected from State prosecution, but not Federal prosecution. Enquiring Minds Want To Know. 196 Mark, a long time ago, an old guy gave me some advice on guns pointing naturally. Pretend you have something with the grip angle of, say, a PO8 luger. Extend you index finger , close your eyes, point at a pre selected object. Now, close your eyes and point your finger with the hand in the natural position. The second time will be closer to the grip angle of a 1911 and should be pointing closer. While the canted angle of a luger, Glock, or the most engineered Remington 51 380 feel natural, it is not the angle of your hand as you bring it up to shoot.

I think they had 9mm brass case for around 17 cents apiece and .223 brass case for around 24 cents. Steel case is always cheaper but I only shoot that in strong like bull AK platforms or revolvers. As for 'hardware' do business with your local guy if you have one. If you have no shops where you live, consider moving to Texas. 16" barrel, overall length of 24" constitutes a rifle. 18' barrel, 26"overall a shotgun. Then you get into the Shockwaves and such, and it's just a big can of worms. Fun fact. The gun control act passed in the 30s originally had an 18" barrel length for both rifles and shotguns. Rifles were changed to 16" because somebody said "Hey, we have a bunch of M1 carbines we have to sell". Also, the neatest little gun I ever saw was a 92 Winchester with 12" barrel. Fortunately, a curio and relic.

Among the things that are in those Virginia laws - all those pistols made out of rifles - AR, AK, SU/16, anything else that has a detachable magazine that is not in the pistol grip - are banned. I don't know if they are covered in the grandfather with registration that is being considered for other "assault firearms." Trying to decipher the way the bill is written (I used to regulatory compliance stuff so I am pretty good at deciphering and I just haven't had the time to analyze it because it is not straightforward) to determine whether the big Desert Eagles are covered because there is a bit in there about being >50 ounces.

Insty linked a story from NZ that a guy had his house raided - not no-knock, but armed policemen at his door to search - for a 22LR lever action rifle because it had more than 10 round capacity, and he had posted on social media about owning it a year ago. He has since disposed of it (he says, doesn't say how, maybe the canoe, that's not really the point). But the cops came for it anyway. Because he had previously publicly posted that he owned it.

My former Mayor who I did vote for (please don't hate me, he was the lesser of 2 evils on the ballot) is showing that he is just another power hungry potential dictator. He truly thinks he is smarter than you and that it is the government that should make any and all decisions on how you live your life.
It was truly galling after the TX church shooting last week when after it showed that a good guy with a gun works he said that only the police should have guns. That blood thirsty little POS would have loved to have seen that gunman kill multitudes of innocent churchgoers.I hope he spends billions of his dollars and get NOTHING for it. Have not bought ammo in a while (reload), just a bit before the new idiotic law took effect, but very surprised to hear SG does not ship to CA. Thought they did? Poor decision on their part if true.
Shipments not banned. Ship to FFL (dunno if, even now, they have any actual procedures, official, from the state DOJ on how to handle this). Under current law I sold some ammo with the Mosin, FFL laughed and did a sign of the cross, sarcastically, when the buyer and I asked him about that part of the deal. That was late last year, maybe? I think there's a non-trivial chance SCOTUS will eventually gut much of the idiotic law being imposed, contrary to the constitution and common sense, on many Americans today. But the judiciary is among the most fallen and corrupt institutions we have, so guarded pessimism is reasonable. Imagine anything like the (effective) express protection of ARs in Heller being ignored, the way it is, by inferior courts and states, if it applied to Civil Rights Act matters. Or the entirely artificial and ridiculous marriage redefinition legislation by the "court". These things would be resolved within a week, tops. Still need to do my little experiment to determine how to make loading Mosins from stripper clips normal and proper (i.e. easy and fast). I know the soldati of Red Army loaded them quick/fast. I might expand, use different terms, but the key is: without an American mindset - American in a substantive historical sense, valuing individual freedom, having at least some knowledge of and respect for the constitution - our sacred paper is as meaningless as the laws and constitutions of dictatorships around the world. Preliminary finding, but I kind of wonder if sufficient #s of Americans in this sense remain to repair the fallen institutions. Posted by: rhomboid at January 12, 2020 09:39 PM (El6T/) 393
My current guess is the strength of the interrupter
spring tension. Cartridges fit into the slot with ease and room to spare, leaving only the clips themselves or the interrupter as suspects. Posted by: rhomboid at January 12, 2020 09:35 PM (El6T/) Load the stripper clips so all the rims overlap in the same direction IE each cartridge going down overlaps the one above. Then when you push them into the magazine the cartridges should angle up. That way the rim on the cartridge on top is in front of the next one down. Yes, the Mosin is supposed to have an interrupter that makes such stripper clip loading antics unnecessary...but it's disappointing how often that interrupter doesn't work. One school of thought says wrapped in cosmoline paper and sealed in PVC pipe. Posted by: hogmartin at January 12, 2020 09:18 PM (t+qrx) Negative. Vacuum seal packed (as in game meat storage for freezing), wrap in 200mph tape, then into a 25mm or 40mm ammo tin. Keep away from treelines, look for triangulation points , dig deep below normal rain incursion level. Cosmoline will degrade any plastic. Home Depot carries surprisingly large diameter PVC pipe.
Posted by: Weasel at January 12, 2020 09:36 PM (MVjcR) Even sell it in precut 4 ft lengths. (4 inch) Do note that std SCH40 and DVW are different diameters when you get to 4" pipe. Use SCH40, put a cap on one end and bushings on the other to fit a schroeder valve and you charge it up with nitrogen. Posted by: Burnt Toast at January 12, 2020 09:42 PM (1g7ch) 405
Just remember to properly seal the tube ends or all you will pull out of the ground is gun-shaped rust.

The 2A was written in a time when men had the balls to go against a fucking king. Now they don't have the balls to go against a slimy politician. The founders gave us the tools but without the balls the 2A is just words on a paper.
Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at January 12, 2020 09:32 PM Politicians... Pffft! The Supreme Court should definitiveley rule once and for all whether 2A means what it says for all Americans, or something else... A pending case before the Court is an opportunity to re-affirm 2A as written, but my hopes are not high... It involves NYC's now repealed law regarding "premise permits"... If I understand this correctly the grabbers are claiming, that since NYC repealed the law in question, the case is now "moot"! So I'm guessing SCOTUS will punt on this again with another "safe" non-ruling... Posted by: Zettai Roshia-no Asetto at January 12, 2020 09:56 PM (7WaWV) 427

Everything else is types deletes territory for me. Posted by: BifBewalski at January 12, 2020 09:48 PM (VcFUs) I'd use end caps with metal Schroeder valves in the center of each with that nitrogen purge you suggested. I'd also use lots of silicon caulk where the valve penetrates the cap. As a final touch, once the desired nitrogen fill is complete, I'd suggest silicon caulk over the valve itself and a shot of caulk in the top of the valve before screwing on the valve cap. You may want to consider ordering ammo from an outfit like SG Ammo and having it shipped to Ben Had (if she OKs that). This is a common strategy when going to schools or competitions due to weight/number of rounds restrictions when flying. Bring an IFAK. Stuff happens. Rifle recommendation: Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmor. Superior ballistics than the .308. Less recoil. Ammo is readily available. Less than $500 on Gunbroker.com. The long range shooters at my club are reporting that folks are shooting the 1000 yd matches with them right out of the box and are being very competitive. Of course, after mounting some good quality glass and spending time with load development. Two years ago a club member took 1st in the 600 yd match with Hornady factory ammo on his first outing with his. I shot my buddy's last Friday and was impressed. Good factory trigger. Smooth bolt retraction and feed. It reminded me of the smoothness of a Colt-Sauer from back in the day. Want.
