7 Trump said he will prevent WH officials from being called in the Senate trial for impeachment. As I posted yesterday in response to another comment, Peelousy wants to call all kinds of new officials to testify so she can turn the Senate trial into another circus like the one she did in the House and have 'Kavanaugh style' endless lies in the Senate. Peelousy has no authority over Senate proceedings.

A recurring theme I've noticed, leftists invert blame whenever they can? So at either the macro or micro level. America is to blame when they attack an embassy in a different country. The churchgoers are to blame for just not dying quietly down there in Texas. "Your death, before their dishonor"

another reason to be skeptical that this was an accident If you had to pick two countries it would be Ukraine and Canada. Not that Ukraine is not tough but so many are against them and what are they going to do to Iran.

When people try to be less into conspiracies than I, I have to wonder about that. At some point people are trying to play down an obvious possibility for whatever reason. If you don't know Iran's history of terrorism, then don't even try to play. They very much could have done this on purpose and anyone who doesn't realize this doesn't know much about them. Hell, it was the perfect time to do such a thing. They are not trying to get voted into the UN Security Council. They want people afraid and unsure.

It was basically a very young Lyndsey Graham, Joe Rogan, and Henry Hyde making their best case to people who could not be persuaded.

The Left still thinks if they could just get one more hit in they will win. This is not different from when they thought they could flip the Electors and stop the election before the inauguration. 65 Yabut, leftists are only and ever about power.

Appealing to their humanity, hoping they will show mercy or come around, facts, logic, reason, basic decency - forget it. Ain't gonna happen. Only ratchets one way. They'll be firing up the gas chambers first chance they get. It's what they do. In fact, it's the only thing they've ever done, apparently. Look at history. Every single country where the socialists take control ends up the same way. To pick one: Argentina was, at one time, the 3rd wealthiest country on the planet.

Not anymore. And they still haven't recovered over a hundred years later. Socialism is pure unadulterated poison. Don't misunderstand- there are horrible societal problems, but leftists use these conditions as their springboard to power. They have no intention of repair. Just power for themselves.

More than likely.

I suspect that we had satellite or other data, images, tracks in our possession that would have clearly shown Iranian responsibility.

Couple that with possibly Trump reaching out through a back channel to the Iranians and explaining that there were two paths that this story could go.

I managed to get to work but put one foot out of the car in the parking lot and thought "No way am I going to be able to make it to the employee entrance without falling." Called my manager (who was in the store - he made it in earlier when the streets weren't so icy) and he wanted me to try to make it in. I said "No way." I told him I'd come back in a few hours after the city had salted the streets.

generic world language lessons are pointless in my opinion. I knew a lot of people on college who took a foreign language and could not speak a lick of it at the end of two semesters. Start them young in some type of immersive environment or do it in a very intensive professional environment. Two semesters or learning grammar and then two of "appreciating their literature" accomplishes very little if the desire to be fluent in the language.

I say get rid of language arts whatever that is and teach English literature and grammar. You learn to speak at home or on the play ground. You learn literature at school and by reading.

Get rid of social studies and teach real history and geography. There, I just saved people a lot of time and stopped wasting a kids chance at knowledge.

Correct.

People who have no idea how the military works thinks chaos, fog of war, "friction" can all be controlled.

In truth, these Q-bert six-dimensional chess moves simply can't happen. Too much will go wrong. Simply moving a battalion from point A to point B is rarely easy or perfectly successful.

What happened is that the SAM battery was on high alert, waiting for the US bombers and when they got a blip, they took the shot because they figured they were going to be greased if they didn't.

Iran has 2nd-hand systems, terrible command and control because they promote based on loyalty, not competence.

Just walk through the process and you'll see how unlikely it is.

First, which plane? Second, which launcher?

Iran's air defenses aren't like ours. It appears to have been a tactical missile, so the individual operator may have taken the shot.

Alternatively, orders came down that the missiles were away and to go to full alert. So they did this and set the fire controls on automatic because the likely outcome was that any "blip" they saw was going to be a SEAD mission seeking to kill them all before the main strike.

At that point, transponders, flight paths, etc. mean nothing.

It's pretty basic stuff. The military side didn't even think about civilian air traffic because that's icky and dull. Their people are promoted for fanatical devotion to the cause, not actual intellect.

----------------------------------------Good, that family has taken enough Bullshit from people. When this car first surfaced, people said "MeQueen wanted it back. They were horrible people not to sell it back to him" He wanted to pay them peanuts. Fuck S/M. People said "Yeah, but Steve McQueen, he was somebody, these people are nothing".
Also, "How dare they hide it all these years". When the family first got the car it was the wife's car and she used it to commute.
Steve McQueen was a great actor. He was also an asshole. The movie was great. Did you know that the guy driving the Charger in the movie was the same guy driving the car in "The Seven Ups" and " The French Connection,"? Bill Hickman. I was showing my nephew car chase scenes from movies he never heard of. We watched them in that order. We get to the "The Seven Ups" and he says "Hey, that's the same guy!!".

Occam's Razor.

Which is more difficult?

Accidental shootdown, or carefully planned shootdown made to look like an accident?

Now look at the skill levels. Assuming they're completely amoral, American operators might be able to pull this off, but you'd have to ensure that the battery in question is fanatically loyal and doesn't screw it up (which is always a possibility).

That means that *one battery* is the best of the best, hand-picked and hand-placed, which no one will notice.

Or, they were just guys scared half to death who fired at the first thing that moved after the alert was sounded.

People are really overthinking things now.

Iran admitted it because they had to. We have the freaking film. There's a point to strategic lying, but remember that Iran still wants passenger air service.

If they continue to tell obvious lines, all airlines will pull out. They will be blockading themselves.

Even the Mullahs aren't that stupid.

What I do not see is their desire to use the power (and violence) of the state to force those ideas into actual works.

It is interesting that offers a marketplace of ideas and has tried to make government less intrusive on companies and individuals. Notice how SCARED this makes progressives. If just 5% of the US population wakes up today and see they are more safe, more free, and more blessed the path to socialism in the USA will be postponed another 10 to 20 years.

Yea, they really are running low on options. If we had a real media it would have been reporting on the massive internal turmoil and crashing economy in Iran since Trump tore up the Iran deal and started whacking them with sanctions. Trump just throw them into further chaos by taking out the leader of their external chaos machine. And let's not forget, the majority of the people on that plane were either Iranians or of Iranian heritage. It's not just the outside world that is angry.

It hasn't been very well reported but there are some reports coming out of Iran that dozens of IRGC commanders loyal to Soleimani have been arrested over the last week. Stuff is going on below the surface that we aren't fully seeing yet.

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. -- 'Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.' -- Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood."

Politicians know NOTHING about future needs and spend everything they receive this year (plus some from the next 30 years) to pay for todays wants and desires.

I think the point is that you should change your mind when the facts change.

The Dems don't do that, though, they merely change their lies.

"Trump needs to be removed before the election!"

"No wait, not removing him is a genius move!"

"Akshually, this is all political!"

There's nothing but tactical flip-flops.

That's the opposite of what he's saying. I used to think modest gun control made sense because I was young, ignorant and raised in suburbia.

I since change that opinion based on facts (ironically facts I discovered while trying to *defend* gun control).

So I'm inconsistent, but in a good way.

I agree completely. People don't realize how automated, and deadly, modern weapons systems are. (like Russian made AA) They are Fire and Forget systems - all it takes is one idiot punching a button, and BOOM. I've read some say that this particular system could be set on auto, so the operators may not have even realized it was about to fire.

Letting the Iranians have weapons systems like this is like giving a room of five year old boys fully loaded AK-47's to play with. And then being surprised when someone gets shot.

One of the best bits of advice I've been told for those preparing a legal case is that you can't understand your own side until you make a very honest effort to defend the other side, to the best of your ability. Sometimes when one does that, you can find the holes in the other side. Sometimes one finds that the other sides case is stronger than your own.

He says speak what you believe today in harsh words and then speak what you think tomorrow in harsh words as well.

Tomorrow of course you may know more than you do today, and may hesitate to contradict yourself, but that would be "foolish consistency."

The underlying point is to speak forcefully always, saying what you believe in that moment, not worrying if you may have said something else before.

OTOH the old timers in my home town used to tell me about politics "both parties are worthless tubs of shit" and I'd hope I never got that bitter to feel that way.

Guess what...

317 Just checked the incoming mail today; the only piece is car warranty solicitation junk mail. I wish I could tell the USPS to just hold it until Monday. I'd hate for the mail carrier to have to slog through freezing rain just to deliver that.

318 Jewells, that happens to me all the time. Strangely enough, it happens a lot when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. A song will weasel itself in and play over and over...with the sole intention of keeping me awake, I'm sure!

319 Chesterson's Fence is another example.

A Prog will want the fence torn down "What purpose does it serve?"

A conservative will actually investigate the fence first, to answer that question. Maybe it is foolish, but maybe not.

Shouldn't we investigate first? Emerson says No.

322 This week's media refrain (even the 'conservative' writers)

1) Pelosi is a political genius
2) Pelosi has painted herself into a corner

ps - David Harsanyi had his balls removed before joining NR. Maybe they have a hazing ritual?

Yeah, but can't avoid trip. Chance wife may get released from hospital today, although Sunday is more likely. She went for chemo on Wed. and they said her levels were bad and admitted her.

327 Iran's foreign minister borrowed the exact language the New York Times, WaPo and Democrats used for the downing of the Ukrainian airliners.

I don't even know what else to say about these people anymore. The media and Democrats are the most anti American forces our country has seen in a long time. God help us if they ever get into power.

Nope! But thank you for asking.

It's a nickname for a mahogany-body Martin guitar that I heard decades ago and thought was hilarious. It just popped into my head when I was thinking up ideas for a handle.
