Lee Smith: The Russiagate Crime is Still In Progress

And, by the way, always remember that Fusion GPS has admitted that it straight-up pays "journalists," but won't say which ones it pays. Giving them money, ostensibly for other reasons. But come on -- when you're on the take, you're on the take. And in addition to the let's-pretend-this-isn't-straight-bribery angle: I have to imagine many (most?) of our despicable, morally rotten Marxist-but-greedy press corps would just straight up take Fusion money to plant smears and write absurd defenses of them, with no need of any pretense or CYA plausible deniability.

For the philosophers at Vox, it’s 'tribal epistemology', or listening only to your own side -- which explains why, after three years of Russiagate, news consumers are not falling for Ukrainegate. It wasn't Fox News that spent $40 million and hired dozens of DOJ lawyers and FBI agents for a special counsel investigation that found no evidence of collusion. It was former FBI director Robert Mueller. It's hardly breaking news that much of the US public distrusts an openly politicized press. What's changed is that half of America has seen evidence that the media participated in a political operation to topple the president they elected. Team Collusion's strategy is to keep feeding exculpatory fan fiction into the news cycle so as to discredit the inspector general's report and Durham’s investigation as politicized attacks on upright public servants. Selling this narrative requires unit cohesion.

And once again, it's worth recapping what this meant for Mueller. Here's a guy who had retired, who had a supposedly respectable career, was thought of as a serious law enforcement agent. Now the entire nation, both left and right, thinks of him as a doddering senile old fool who was asked to do a service to his country and who FAILED - miserably! From the right, his failure was to completely miss what was really going on; from the left, his failure destroyed their entire game. Either way, everyone agrees that he was a total failure, and an incompetent fool.

What you do is go to Podunk University and find a professor who is striving for tenure ship. Getting tenure means publishing papers. But publishing papers is hard work.
You hire the professor using a "grant". That grant allows him to pay himself money to do the study. Then you basically hand him all your questionable data, ready to publish. He publishes under his name, and somewhere, in the fine print is a footnote that says "Paid for by a generous grant from Greenpeace". Actually it won't say that, it will say the name of a law firm, or some anodyne front group like "People for the environment".
Greenpeace, neglecting to say they paid for the study, goes around flogging it to the press and public, and trying to force it's conclusions into public policy. peer review? yeah, they pay off the peer review as well. they make sure all the peer reviewers are also recipients of grants as well. And to double down, they make sure that all the peer reviewers, and the Podunk U guy, are all referencing each other's work as much as possible. There are website that measure such things which help determine scientific standing of studies - studies referenced a lot get more attention.
Professor gets to make progress toward being tenured in several ways 1) fame 2) money (Universities measure how important they are by how much grant money they attract) 3) the published paper 4) getting lots of references.
It is exactly the Fusion GPS method.

I just couldn't figure out how some no-name professor in Vermont was suddenly publishing detailed studies on Alaska environmental issues. Rapidly. Faster than any data could be collected. All with garbage information, and all highly cited by other professors at other no-name universities who were peer reviewers, and all writing from grants. Then suddenly an environmental group steps forward with this pack of bad studies and starts forcing the agencies to do what they want based on the bad the data.
Tracing it back - the whole thing was a scam. I then started getting a lot more careful reading these things and realized there are a lot of these kinds academic scams going on. Really it is just the same system tobacco companies perfected.

The headline story in today's U.K. version of the Daily Mail is about some man and woman who were murdered in the U.K. yesterday. Both were separated from their spouses, and they'd just started having a relationship with each other. The woman's husband, who was living elsewhere (wife had kicked him to the curb), came to the family home where he and his soon-to-be ex-wife and kids still lived, found his wife and her new boyfriend together there, and stabbed them both to death.
So yeah, always a good idea to be very careful with people who are freshly detached from other relationships. You never know how crazy the ex might be!

There was one guy who was famous for his studies on identical twins raised apart. It was the foundation for the field of study.
Then someone looked at the information. The guy kept adding twins to the study, long after his retirement. Yet the results were identical to the last decimal place as new studies were added.
This is non-possible. So they looked at the raw data and it was entirely made up, both before and after retirement. Just a total loss.
Similarly in parapsychology there was a study of random guessing that was the best done. The numbers to guess were taken from a random number table with a method described in the paper. So decades later someone compared the tables to the raw data. Whole rows were added 'between' real random data that had a high level of correct guesses. Also they found that some of the numbers in the lab book were fudged to create correct guesses...changing 1 to 4, 6 to 8 that sort of thing.

well that is a different thing - the replication crises.
A group of scientists tried to replicate a bunch of studies. they found something like 60-80% of sociology and psychology studies were garbage. Couldn't be replicated. Either fake, or so poorly thought out they meant nothing.
Another group spent time making up nonsensical papers and getting them published. I think one was essentially Mien Kompf, re-written as science. They also tried the same thing with pagerism - basically straight up copying other papers and submitting them for publication. Dismal results.

There was another incident where a guy was found to have gotten papers published by just taking a paper from Journal X, submitting it to obscure journal Y with a different title. He had hundreds of papers on his CV, almost all of which were fraudulent.
