AG Barr: James Comey is a Serial Liar

He didn't put it so bluntly -- he said instead that what James Comey says "is simply not true" -- but the import is the same.

[Martha McCallum] then played a clip of Comey trying to distance himself from the investigation. Comey told Wallace, "As a director sitting on top of an organization with 38,000 people, you can't run an investigation that's seven layers below you. You have to leave it to the career professionals to do...If a director tries to run an investigation, it can get mucked up in other kinds of ways given his or her responsibilities and the impossibility of reaching the work being done at the lower levels."

MacCallum asked Barr, "Do you believe that?"

In his signature forthright manner, which I find both amusing and endearing, he said, "No."

Barr explained, "One of the problems with what happened was precisely that they pulled the investigation up to the executive floors, and it was run and birddogged by a very small group of very high-level officials. The idea that this was seven layers below him is simply not true."

St. James of the Redwoods -- lying?!

I shan't believe it. I simply shannot!

More: Barr says that he does not believe -- or rather, that he's investigating -- the claims made by the FBI about why they opened this investigation, and if it's true that they only opened it after the Downer tip, or if they had already been unofficially running spies at Trump people before then.

He is also baffled that the FBI continued its sham investigation even after they learned the entire basis for it was a fiction.

[MacCALLUM:] "Was in fact the comment by Papadopoulos the real predication or was it a pretext for a pre-existing desire to take a look at the Trump campaign?

Interesting, Barr said, "By the time the President entered office, it was becoming clear that there was no basis to these allegations. Not just the dossier falling apart, but the information that they were relying on as to Page and to Papadopoulos."

Barr also says this, about James Comey trying to wrap himself in the protective cloth of the FBI itself, always claiming "you're attacking the brave agents of the FBI" when people are plainly criticizing him and the gang of hyperpartisan criminals he assigned to the Trump coup (and before that -- the same crew assigned to the Hillary Clinton "matter").

MACCALLUM: Jim Comey came out after you gave your last interview. You responded to the IG Horowitz's report and spoke out about that. And then he spoke with Chris Wallace and he said that the 17 mistakes and omissions that were uncovered in the FISA process, he attributed it to sloppiness largely. What do you say to that?

BARR: I think there's some of them very hard to square with the idea that these were just mistakes and sloppiness. I have said that a number of these episodes leave open the possibility of inferring bad faith or improper motive. But I hasten to add that, as I've said all along, that I've reached no determination on that, nor do I think a final determination on that is appropriate until all the evidence is there. The -- Horowitz himself in his testimony, I think pretty well summed it up, which is this could be on the one hand, at the very least, gross incompetence. On the other hand, it could also be improper motive, and he was not in a position to make that call. And that's why we have the US attorney, John Durham, looking into this.

MACCALLUM: Yeah, and I want to ask you about that in a moment. Are you surprised that James Comey is so convinced himself that all of this was completely above board? He came out and said there was no treason and there's no spying at all on the president.

BARR: Well, I think the IG report and the recent letter from the FISA court I think pulls the rug out from under that analysis. There was serious misconduct, as the court itself has said. And one of the things that I object to is the tact being taken by Comey, which is to suggest that people who are criticizing or trying to get to the bottom of the misconduct are somehow attacking the FBI. I think that's nonsense. We're criticizing and concerned about misconduct by a few actors at the top of the FBI, and they should be criticized if they engaged in serious misconduct. That doesn't mean we're criticizing the FBI, and I think the tact of trying to wrap yourself in the institution and say, gee, people who are criticizing the decisions I made are attacking the institution. I noticed people don't that as far as I'm concerned, people feel free to criticize me. And I don't say, gee, you're attacking the honest men and women of the Department of Justice. I think leaders, you know, have to own their decisions and are fair game if they make bad decisions.

Thank you for calling out this criminal for that habit of wrapping himself in the flag.

As John Wesley "Jack" Walsh said, "There's been something I've been waiting to say to you for twenty years. You're under arrest."

Was he doing some kind of Clinton thing? Speaking in the abstract. Saying that in general you didn't run an investigation that way, when the question was about this specific investigation.

74 Barr: "We're criticizing and concerned about misconduct by a few actors at the top of the FBI..."

That's underselling the problem. Yes, "we're" criticizing and concerned about them - most certainly - but this is just the opening salvo of a much bigger cancer in IC and specifically at this point in the FBI. I think we can conclude that there is multi-level abuse by most of the FBI WRT the way they conduct investigations. Do these higher-ups just spontaneously decide to abuse power after years/decades of being law enforcement saints? No, they learn it as they progress through the chain of command and career advancement.

The FISA abuse, wiretapping, and fake charges are but a snapshot of abuse that is clearly a modus operandi of the FBI. It is an agency that needs wholesale auditing and maybe an entire rebuild.

Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel at December 20, 2019 04:38 PM (6eEQ+)

We bought a Bonavita certified for that temperature a couple of years ago and it was a revelation. Not even that expensive of a coffee maker, either. $85 or so. And it made literally everything taste better.

171 Like I said above, this process of creating a gaslit world where experts tell you what to think has been going on for decades.

The deep state can indict anyone they want, they can prosecute anyone with no evidence, and they can literally get away with murder.]

Any honest member of any branch of law enforcement who wants to take down a member of the deep state has to literally have every minute piece of evidence collected before they dare indict anyone, and has to pray they find a judge not on the take.

Why would anyone with over $500 million kill himself? Or sit around jail waiting for someone else to kill him?

Epstein is on some other island, fucking 16 year old girls, sipping drinks and having fun.

Some putz that looked vaguely like Epstein was taken to the morgue where a very well paid coroner said it looked like suicide.

A few hundred thousand for the guards and a million or so for the coroner. Done deal, out the door, so long.

You can have a trilogy that's horribly inept and contradicts the previous trilogy. Wouldn't even be the first time. You can even kill your main bad guy halfway through the trilogy because you're an edgy boi. What you can't do is resurrect an old villain because you desperately need the fan service and you're all out of ideas.

I think they're pivoting back to their old fans mid twist, but it' not going to work. The old fans hate the new characters, they hate the plot, they REALLY hate the SJW agenda, and they hate the Mouse's shitty remake of an American icon.

At first I thought this movie would at least do TLJ numbers, but I'm starting to think I gave them too much credit.

Because that's what he's done.

And it was Trey Gowdy who got Brennan to perjure himself over the ICA. That's not bad for a Congressman with zero power to indict anyone.

Bill Barr went out of his way to help Lon Horiuchi. Why ? Easy answer - he didn't condone Horiuchi's act. But he was unwilling to see the FBI's power curtailed.

And he stated so, in print. He was concerned that a Horiuchi conviction would - and I quote - severely undermine, if not cripple, the ability of future attorneys general to rely on such specialized units in moments of crisis such as hostage taking and terrorist acts.

Bill Barr ain't draining a damn thing. He just wants different management.

346 Sidebar item: Boeing's Starliner went off course and won't dock with the International Space Station.

Well, it was the first flight. Things happen, mistakes are made, it's how you learn.

But it really frosts me that NASA has sent way more money to Boeing than it has sent to SpaceX. SpaceX has been reliably sending supplies to the ISS for a long time now, and they are very close to having a "man-rated" capsule for moving human beings back and forth from the ISS. So naturally Boeing gets... more money?

It doesn't matter in the long run. SpaceX is making money so they aren't going anywhere, and they will send humans to the ISS several times before Boeing gets Starliner right. The future will have lots of SpaceX and not a lot of Starliner in it. But it still frosts me to see NASA sending more money to the old dinosaur space industrial complex.

Here's a shortened link to an ArsTechnica story about how much more money Boeing gets compared to SpaceX:

That can't be working. This is not difficult. Keep in mind that opposing parties control the two houses, and the following becomes as insane as it is:

House: We're gonna impeach Trump!
Senate: We don't want you to impeach Trump.

House: We impeached Trump!
Senate: Okay. We'll deal with it.

House: We don't like how you're dealing with it!
Senate: Too bad, our prerogative.

House: If you don't comply with our demands, we won't send you the impeachment articles!

So, the House did something insane that no one wanted and now that they're not getting their way they're threatening to *not* finish doing the thing that no one wanted them to do in the first place.

That is utter madness. There is no way to spin that as "the Senate is afraid!" This is a childlike tantrum and it would be transparent to the point of tedium if it weren't so insane.

Set up a brand new REGIONAL Federal Agency. 8-12 co equal investigation agencies based outside of Washington DC.

The directors ar all equal and report to the AG directly. The labs etc., are split into three separate equal labs and such, that report directly to different regional directors.

The Washington DC region is investigated by an agency made up of people seconded to it from all the regional agencies on a temporary two to four year assignments before they return to their home agency.

The existing FBI? Assign them to find all the missing Native American Women and Children. 5000 a year, every year. For dozens of years. Work on it until the last agent retires in twenty years.

I can't recall if that was in his full remarks from yesterday, linked above.

Outside of secrets, this same function would be useful for the press. But I can't think of *any* time the Press has used an ambassador for anything but creating resistance to a policy on behalf of the foreign government.

479 As I said in @446, I couldn't disagree more. She's persona non grata NOW, but she's gambling that things will change in 4 years. I think that's a good bet.
Posted by: pep at December 20, 2019 05:40 PM (T6t7i)

well, that's the gamble. I think it's a bad bet, especially if Trump becomes even more popular during his 2nd term, and she goes down as the House member too gutless to vote for what she knew was true - that the charges were bullshit. When the time came to Stand Up and Be Counted, she Turned Tail and Ran.

As opposed to the 218 or whatever that voted guilty when they knew Trump as innocent?

In the aftermath, there's no way to make Tulsi look more unethical than whatever Dem survivors are left. She wins there.

480 OMG, that's a real thing Who thinks this stuff up? and how in the hell is there sufficient market for it to be profitable?

472 Elizabeth Warren: Trump 'Would Step On A Cute Little Kitten' To Get What He Want
And she says this because........? What, exactly, is the pretense for such an accusation? There isn't one. Trump's not the one who would make an aborted newborn "comfortable" while its mother and doctor decide how to kill it.

Yep just like your boyfriend lurking lurker. It's not about if I agree with you you twit. Plenty of others actually think something is going to be done and just you wait and see. They manage to do it without being a constant belligerent bag of dicks like you though. That's the issue you insufferable bag of wet farts.

483 Comey's reputation is so tattered, he'd be naked unless he manages to cloak himself in the reputation of the FBI.

Posted by: Inspector Kemp at December 20, 2019 06:09 PM (+DS2f)

484 Comey literally can't help himself - he is psychologically incapable of seeing himself as anything other than the shining hero. He has to stretch the truth to cover his bare ass.

487 Deep State, I think CBD is ever so politely advising you to modulate your tone. Before he gets all Grumpypants and drops the hammer. I'm one of the people who agrees with your POV; However if you have to jump on every post that disagrees, hurling invective, it weakens your position. That behavior makes you sound defensive.

488 What is it about the number 17? 17 intelligence agencies, 17 errors and omissions, 17 being some mystical number according to Lena Dunham and the Pussyhats. I predict the first Deep State arrest will be April 17.

489 Whenever I see or hear Barr I get that feeling that an adult just entered the room. He really is a throwback to pre-bullshit new age politicking.

490 Did the FBI open an investigation of Trump when he announced his candidacy or when became the front runner?

Did Comey have investigations operating on other Republicans?

Posted by: Goatweed at December 20, 2019 07:41 PM (iR3Gu)

491 In the last quotation block, you say that Barr used the word "tact" where he clearly used the more correct locution "tack". Sorry, but this is one of my pettest of pet peeves.
