The special election to replace Katie "Throuple" Hill (D-CA) in CD-25 is March 3rd. Sure would be nice to pick that one off.
The Cook PVI for CD-25 says EVEN. (No D or R advantage) March 3rd is the same day as the Super Tuesday DEM primary, which should maximize DEM chances of winning this seat outright. Well, sort of. It was more like the way that Reagan's Star Wars forced the Soviets to spend themselves into bankruptcy. The nobles had to spend tons-o-cash on chateaus at Versailles, outrageously expensive clothing, parties, and whatnot. That kept them from spending money on their private armies. But, fundamentally, all that money got raped out of the peasants, and eventually the peasants got tired of it. Posted by: BoJo Mojo at December 17, 2019 01:11 PM (WsmTT) 160

Yeah, I mean its basic negotiating tactics to hold out a carrot to get compliance. But its not like he had to twist their arm or anything, I mean the place is out several hundred BILLION dollars because of that corruption, they want to dig into it as well. And I mean... Ukraine is corrupt to the core, so they'll back whoever they think will be in a power to help them or hurt them. It's often said that "politics is Hollywood for ugly people" and we need to keep that more up front in our minds: the pundits and politicians and their spokescritters are indeed ACTORS first. These are roles they play for TV and print. There's little or nothing personal in there for them; they aren't emotionally invested in this stuff to the extent the viewers / readers are. Their passion is more like what you have for your favorite sports team - at the end of the day it's all just a game and you can still be best friends (or even the spouse!) of someone who roots for "The Other Side". No truly independent voter could possibly support the collection of extremists, cranks, radicals, and freaks the Democratic party has become. There was a time in the past you could agree with and basically support some of their politicians but these days? Its like the Monster Raving Silly Party but without the fun or satire.
Its tough for an independent voter to support the Republican Party because there are icky religious types in there and some pretty far-right sorts (by modern cultural standards -- far right meaning "holds standard popular positions from 30 years ago") but many are pretty moderate and even leaning slightly left. But Democrats? They're all as far left on the chart as the image will allow. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at December 17, 2019 01:28 PM (KZzsI) 287

They can't even state their case without insulting me.
I never took Trump to be a "Prophet of Conservatism". Heck, I still suspect that he would have been a lot more MOR had the Dems ever played ball (not throwing every pitch at his head). I think that he would have delivered on the originalist judges though, because he seems to want to fulfill his promises. And as a seat-of-the-pants free-markets guy, I think protectionism can be strategic, in the short run, but in the long run, it just gives your internal market a ceiling on price, since there is a price under which foreign imports can't compete. I think history shows that any such buffer will be used in time. I'm just a free-trade guy that was letting Trump see what he could do. Posted by: Axeman at December 17, 2019 01:39 PM (DuZls) 376

To put more succinctly what I said about the "cucks".
If they are "conservatives", if they are on the right--why are they employing the strategy of Alinksy??! And also as a "conservative" are you conserving ANYTHING by copying such nihilistic tactics? If you use emotionally loaded words like "religion" and "prophet", what are you expecting of your society in the way of REASON? Have you already abandoned hope for a reasonable society, that you have to engage in hyperbole and polemics instead of analysis? If one side is moving society by gross over-generalizations and caricatures of their opponents, does it help to try to get the other side moving by gross over-generalizations and caricatures the other way around? Alinsky has no excuse because he is a will-to-(left-)power type of guy. But, as far as I have been able to distill, conservatives want to preserve Honor. I bet its success is more like "13 Hours". That movie was not a blockbuster in theaters, but once it came out on DVD and video-on-demand it was breaking sales and rental records.
I am guessing the same thing, and if so it fits into my "people who'd like this film don't see anything in theaters any more" theory. I think there are really only three kinds of heavy theater goers these days (with some exceptions): families who take kids to see movies, hard leftists who see stuff because it fits their worldview, and comic book fans. Posted by: RoyalOil, Vicroy Canadian Territories at December 17, 2019 02:00 PM (vPKfA) --- But it's really just a variation of the "Christians should believe" manipulation game the Alinskyans play on us. Which is a variation of the Hypocrite game, which has become almost the entire range of thought about criticizing the opposition for some Alinskyans. They *think* in terms of the Hypocrite Game. If Paul Ryan reads Ayn Rand--but is not an Objectivist--that excites some version of "An Ayn Rand reader should..." game of Hypocrite. They can manipulate their own people just with the words "This is not who WE are." ("A liberal/Democrat/progressive should..."). I'd like to talk to the atheists who so commonly said a decade ago that religion was about "controlling people's minds". If people were allowed to make up their own mind it would suggest that part of the "we" can decide if that is indeed the type of person included in the 'we'." Thank you for your opinion, but I'll hold my own. And I think it's because "liberal politics" is simply the collection of people who engage in "feelgood"-about-themselves politics--> if Obama wants to disown that trait, because it says something unflattering about him, than who among you will volunteer to have that unflattering characteristic said about you? Winning lottery doesnt ruin lives what ruins lives but what happens when really poor people who are the ones that play the lottery win a lot of money they fucked it all up. Also see dirt poor peeps who make a pro team and are broke 5 years after retirement.
This is a common sentiment, but I don't think it's true. Read about Jack Whittaker. He was already worth $17 million when he won the $317 million powerball. He took the cash option. $113 million cash after taxes. His grand-daughter was murdered. His daughter died a violent death, probably suicide. The cops constantly harassed him, giving him tickets and fines all of the time. Strangers would approach him at his favorite restaurant, demanding money. All of the locals turned on him because they didn't think he was generous enough. When you win the money, everyone thinks you didn't earn it, so they have no compunction about demanding a piece. Seriously, how do you even go about spending it? ---- I've long ago thought this out and decided to incorporate and hand out share totaling 50%. That way taxes are the responsibility of the shareholder except for church and charities that are tax exempt. That means paying tax on the other 50% at 50% roughly, so in this case that would leave a mere 62.5 mil to play with. Hardly enough to get in trouble with, unless you're the type that can find trouble with 500 cash in your pocket. Which I am. Or used to be. Don't need new friends. Don't need new family. One night in August 2003, eight months after he'd won the Powerball, Jack came to the club alone. He let it be known that he had more than $500,000 in a black briefcase sitting on the front seat of his Lincoln Navigator, which he'd left idling at the club door. "Somebody should rob him," Misty said, according to a criminal complaint police later filed. A bartender told police she heard Misty make that remark and saw her open two blue capsules and dump their contents into a Hawaiian Punch fruit juice drink to try to knock out Jack. According to police, Jeff went to the parking lot, pulled his sleeves over his hands so he wouldn't leave fingerprints, smashed the driver's side window of Jack's Navigator, grabbed the briefcase and hid it behind a dumpster. It was recovered after Jack realized it was gone and called police. Posted by: blaster at December 17, 2019 02:18 PM (9VeU0) 636

The Left's anti-morality requires them to mock merit and elevate trash. The complete inversion or obliteration of all standards is one of their major objectives. Garbage like a banana duct taped to a wall is high art, and technically difficult, beautiful works go ignored by the critics. I read a few places that "high art" is also a money laundering scheme.. Pay an artist a couple of grand for an enema splatter on a canvas. Have an art appraiser say it's worth 2 mil. Donate to museum and write off the 2 mil.
