Poll: Trump Drawing More and More Black Support

Womp womp.

Zogby "oversampled" black voters in his latest survey and found that the support was 27%, but he also measured support in head-to-head matchups with 2020 Democratic candidates to put that support to an election test.

In all cases, while black support for Trump dropped when an alternative was offered, it was higher than the 8% he received in 2016 and maybe enough to push him across the finish line first in 2020.

Against Joe Biden, Trump receives 12% of the black vote. Against Sen. Bernie Sanders, it was 14%. And against Sen. Elizabeth Warren, it was 17%.

While he had a 5% margin of error, Zogby said the trend is clear. "If Trump is able to up his numbers over 10% or near 15%, and with a lower turnout among African Americans because they are not excited by the field of candidates or turned off by D.C., Trump could really benefit from this scenario in the 2020 general election," he told us.

By the way, "oversampling" is not in itself a problem. You oversample smaller subgroups when you want to ask specific questions of them and still get a statistically accurate result. You need around 400 respondents in any sub-group to say something statistically meaningful about them. In a normal poll of all Americans, if you polled 800 people total, you'd only wind up talking to around 100 blacks, which is not a big enough sample to be statistically valid. So instead you keep calling, trying to get more blacks, until you get around 400.

That doesn't mean the rest of the poll is invalid -- a pollster would in the end weight that black sample down to the level it is throughout the country for the "all respondents" part of the poll. He wouldn't leave the oversample in unadjusted.

Yep - speaking as a former professional pollster (not political), you always weight your respondents to match their share of the population, not the share of respondents, since the two don't match up.

The classic issue is that high-income people are less likely to respond to polls, so you generally need to overweight high-income respondents in your sample to get to mix of responses reflecting the population.

She does NOT have autism. They're only saying that because Hollywood has promoted the myth that people with autism are SOOPAR JEENIUSES ("savants", in the jargon), which is not true, in general. Some are, of course, but most aren't. In any case, it's irrelevant in her case because she DOES NOT HAVE AUTISM.

I don't believe for a minute nearly 1 in 3 blacks will vote for Trump, but not having them lined up to vote in Rust Belt cities is all we need.

Obviously, we should encourage "The Talented Tenth" of African Americans, like we should encourage the Talented Third of Mexican Americans, BUT if the GOP goes too far overboard (His)pandering or Blackpandering, it will lose the White Working Class that is clearly disgusted with the Demunists.

Hispandering, after wall, was a disguise for Globalism, which was clearly alienating to all us at AOSHQ, let alone the White Working Class.

99 The thing about the "black" vote which somehow gets 100% turn out is that the "black vote" is likely just the empty voter rolls that get filled in at the hard blue precincts by local democrat machine politicians.

That's why they fight so hard to stop voter roll clean ups. Higher black participation in these districts would mean more real votes being cast which would lower the number of fake votes being cast by democrat operatives.

Right now, all Democrats offer blacks -- ALL they offer blacks -- is "the other guy is racist." Meanwhile the party of Abraham Lincoln is giving them jobs and better standard of living, dealing with prison issues, etc.

Perhaps it is time to actually look at candidates and not just the skin color. Obama talked a good game - it didn't work for me, but not everyone is a good target for the salespitch. Harris has the personality of drywall. She got where she is because of personal connections and running in a one-party state. Put her up against other people and she shows her complete incompetence and lack of charm. That is the danger of trying to reduce everything to a checklist - you get all of your identity groups covered, but you miss the spark that allows a candidate to connect with the voter.

Just send it back--no vote--with, you did not charge with a crime or a misdemeanor, the Constitution does not allow political trials in the Senate.

I'm with you, YD. There's something fundamentally wrong with her. Don't know what it is, but she even looks peculiar, has stunted growth, appears not to have begun puberty yet, and that's just not normal. Her parents have taken a weak-minded individual, provided her with her shtick, wound her up, and unleashed her on the rest of us.

Contrast her with, say, Horst Weasel (David Hogg). In his case, I would subscribe to AP's take, that the problem is largely environmental. He's no stud, God knows, but he doesn't seem fundamentally abnormal, either. He's just a rank opportunist, groomed and propelled northwards by his shitty parents, IMO.

161 So autism is similar to obscenity?

I can't define it but I know it when I see it.

In practice the problem with conditions such as ADHD or autism is that the definition is vague and mutable, and the range of individuals thusly labeled is quite wide with substantial overlap to the "normal" population. ( I would also include adolescent and pre-adolescent "gender dysphoria" in this category of psychiatric/behavioral conditions.)

So the "if you go to a barber he'll tell you that you need a haircut" principle is applicable. People who specialize in treating these conditions have trouble NOT diagnosing someone as having the condition. So when the hear hoofbeats they don't expect to see a horse, they expect to see a zebra.

164 116 Sort of need a regional break down for the black support numbers (but that's asking a lot for a sub-group of a sub-group sampling) to confirm how important this might be.

If the swing to Trump is uniform across states, then it would basically be game over for Democrats. But if it's mainly concentrated in non-battleground safe GOP southern states (and/or safe Dem states like NY and CA), then it matters less.
Posted by: Frankovich's Monster at December 16, 2019 12:49 PM (hdzef)

I DO suspect the Black Voters turning rightward are concentrated in places now rather Republican already, like the South and often rural South at that. The ones in Northern and Western inner cities are mired in the victim and Marxist ideology. Mike Huckabee according to polls was one GOP candidate who DID do remarkably well with African Americans, but again, that is Arkansas.

183 Imagine the opportunity the parent company of CNN has right now...

What if there was a board of directors at AT&T/Time Warner who were interested in making money and creating a trusted media platform? CNN is sliding downhill and isn't performing to it's potential, but it would be next to impossible to re-brand the network to be trusted and incredibly expensive replacing the "talent".

Using the IG report, a new CEO of CNN could fire the entire front end (talent and producers) for cause - eliminating the need to buy out contracts - and replace everyone with unknowns.

CNN could play it as a "come to Jesus" moment, where the Time Warner people claim they just discovered the lies and bias throughout CNN and that they are starting a "fair and balanced" organization from scratch.

The network would have enormous ratings immediately while having to pay next to nothing for a few years while the new talent sorted itself out. All they would have to do is be meticulously straight for a few years to cement the new image. Of course, liberal bias will eventually find it's way back in.

However, for a good while, CNN would be the gold standard for unbias reporting.

Being a kid, too. My mother was almost old enough to have been my grandmother; when I was born, she was 37. She told me lots of stories about growing up in western Canada in the '20s and Florida in the late '20s, and in New Orleans when she came here for nursing school in the '30s. I loved the stories.

On my mom's side yes. Our family on her side has held reunions for at least 50 years. I have a zillion cousins throughout East Texas and beyond.

On my dad's side...his father died just before WWII started when he was 15. Killed in a troop transport and was the only civilian aboard. We are anticipating the wreckage of the plane that crashed in Alaska on Sept 22 1942 to finally emerge from the slow creep.

I never knew either grandfather though.

287 202 Grandpa never really talked about it.

I would love to know more but everyone from our family who would know anything more is dead.

The worst part about being a grandchild is that you almost never are wise enough to talk to your grandparents and learn about their past and lives until its too late.
-------------------
Even then, the children of the grandparents sometimes don't ask. My maternal grandfather. I know what part of Poland he came from. His last name on US documents doesn't exist in Poland. The name makes no sense even when trying to Americanize something Polish. Sort of like when Vito Corleone stepped off the boat. "Where you from?" and that's your name. But nothing I've ever found comes close.

Supposedly someone from that side of the family ended up in NYC in 1860s, opened a bar and somewhere along the line moved back to Poland.

My maternal grandmother and her sister were sold into servitude by their parents to work on a farm. They ripped the farmer off and came to the US. They never said much of anything about their parents.

Tucked away in a corner at the Air & Space museum here in DC is a small section on Medal of Honor recipients from WWII, with videos of some of them discussing their missions that led to the honor. They are amazing to watch. The guys recounting are so calm and in many cases almost jovial (I guess because they lived!) and they are talking about their 20-year-old selves and the unbelievable things they did as though they were recounting a walk down the street.

You can find some of these videos on YouTube, but I think you'd have to know what to search for. I wrote down the name of one and found the whole video when we came back. Just amazing.

My father tried to trace his family back, but came a-cropper around the Civil War because our surname is one of the classic names of the English yeomanry (like "Smith" or "Jones") and census data from then were insufficiently detailed to figure out who was who.

309 Trump shocks black voters - by trying to get their votes
The president's reelection team knows he's never going to win sizable African American support. But that's not the point.
https://t.co/zofm2xuVAS

The Westside Gazette bills itself as "Broward County's oldest and largest African American owned-and-operated newspaper." For five decades, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. weekly has catered to a staunchly Democratic readership.

So when readers opened an edition last month to find a full-page ad from President Donald Trump's reelection campaign, many couldn't believe it. Why would he even bother?

Story Continued Below
"I thought it was quite abnormal," said Bobby Henry, the newspaper's publisher and CEO. He said a reader sought him out at church last weekend to ask what was up. "For [Trump] to reach out to the broader African American community is what surprised me."

Yet that's precisely what Trump is doing.

The president's reelection campaign has spent $1 million in an effort to make inroads with black voters, and more is coming, according to a person with direct knowledge of the planning. The initiative, dubbed "Black Voices" by the campaign, so far has included ads in black-run newspapers and on radio stations, volunteer training seminars and a kickoff event hosted by Trump in Atlanta last month.

My paternal grandfather had a completely insane life history. Just horrible, and interesting, but it means I don't much about that part of my family, as he was the only one to survive the Russian revolution, and died when my father was a baby.

He had been attached to the Army as a boy from minor nobility (an adolescent when the Bolsheviks struck), and was stationed in Africa when they rounded up his family and shot them.

He defected to the British Army, who held on to him til WWII, when they loaned him to OSS cryptographers because of his language skills. That bought him a pass to emigrate to NY after the war.

349 He defected to the British Army, who held on to him til WWII, when they loaned him to OSS cryptographers because of his language skills. That bought him a pass to emigrate to NY after the war.

that is one of the story lines in the book 'Legend' about Roy Benavidez. I think the guy was a Czech named Mazer or something like that. Got killed in Vietnam after serving in WWII, Korea and the Congo.

350 305 I know my Maternal Great Grandparents names because I had the privilege of knowing them on up into my high school and college years. As kids we actually went to their house every Easter. I didn't realize how unique that was until I got older. It puts ones life in context having roots that far back.

Wow, that really is incredible. I had one great-grandparent still alive when I was born (first great-grandchild). I know this mostly because I have a small scar on my forehead from falling on the heating grate at her house when I was learning to walk.

I think she died soon after that - I have no memory of ever seeing her.

=======

Hell, I think I had a great great grandmother (but it might be a geat grandmother on my dad's side) still alive when I was born. There's a picture of her holding me as a baby. Pictures like that if you think about it can blow your mind: Someone born in the late 1800s holding a baby born in 1983. Reminds you that, yes no man is an island and you are part of a greater whole: the family. Not the state or a class! I regretfully never talked to my great grandfather about his childhood, but he did talk to my grandmother: He was the child of a sharecropper who was in and out of jail for moonshining when he was growing up. IOW, true grinding poverty that your average Yankee doesn't realize a lot of whites down here experienced. He broke from him because of the moonshining and basically blazed his own path. When the gas pipelines started getting put up across the southeast he worked construction on a compressor station. He decided to take a shot at getting a job there but there was an issue: He couldn't read. So, my Great Grandmother taught him. He got the job and he worked there till he retired in his 60s. My Grandfather worked as a welder/fabricator occasionally at that compressor station post retirement and my Uncle still works there.

351 > Your family history is only as truthful as your relatives were.

Even if you do have records, the odds that your remote ancestor was actually who your family tree says it was are pretty slim.

Let's say that the incidence of cuckoldry is 5% (most believe it's considerably higher than that).

That means that your alleged father is 95% likely to be your biological father. Pretty good.

But your alleged grandfather has only 0.95 x 0.95 = 0.90 probability of being your biological grandfather. Great-grandfather: 0.85. Great-great: 0.81.

Your alleged tenth-generation male ancestor has only a 59% probability of being your actual ancestor (i.e., there's over a 40% chance it was actually someone else).

Your alleged twentieth-generation male ancestor has only a 35% probability of being the real one.

So, yeah, these "ancestries" that purport to go back to biblical times are pretty much garbage.

Yep. On the Mexican side of my family, they claimed that my great great grandfather was killed by Pancho Villa in Durango at the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. Not by his men, but by Villa himself. The family was VERY specific about it, apparently.

With a little research, I figured out that it was impossible, because Villa was nowhere near Durango at the time. But he had sent a bandit gang down to rape, pillage and plunder during those couple of weeks, in order to seize control of the Revolution in Chihuahua, by showing that his main revolutionary rival couldn't control his troops. It looks like the GGGF may have been caught up in that raid, but there's no proof, and no documentation, just oral history.

353 Part of the reason its a good idea to name your kids after someone in your family rather than the stupid crap you came up with at age 13 and scribbled in your diary is because it not only creates a sense of family continuity, but prompts interest and a connection with the past in your family. From that, other historical interests may arise.

Or you can go ahead and name your kid after that hunky guy in the soap opera.

The bright side is many people start to be common ancestors for large swathes of humanity that far back.

356 All those DNA registry ancestry sites are garbage. For one thing they are not allowed to gather or report information from certain nations by local law, so they give a general area ("scandanavian"). For another, the science of national DNA is extremely sketchy to begin with.

And that doesn't include the "you just gave your DNA to a permanent registry the government will raid when they want to" thing.

On another forum I heard an interesting assertion. That is, that
most people do not know first and last name of their great grandparents.

That applies to me. I know my grandparents' full names, but only surnames of my great grandparents. How about the rest of you?

most of them. my paternal grandparents divorced and the grandmother moved to california where she died sometime in the '70s. although i met her once, i don't know much about her.

my maternal grandfather was illegitimate and the mother kept he name of the father secret.

on the other hand, through good luck and staring at microfilm, i've been able to push some of the polish line as many generations into poland as have elapsed since they emigrated in the 1870s. seems about then is when all my maternal lines came to the us (norwegian, german, and polish; dad's family has been here since the 1600s).

On the other hand, if you have the same last name as a famous political family you ALWAYS get asked if you're related.

"Yes, I'm related to those worthless cocksuckers. You can't choose your ancestors, y'know."

Didn't one of the DNA registry sites recently get busted for faking some of the test results?

I'd love to see what they come up with when some miscreant swabs his cat's mouth and sends it in.

361 Many black people adore criminals, be they fictional like Tony Montana, or real, like Jay-Z.

I'd find it ironic if the faux impeachment proceedings are having the Democrats' intended effect of convincing blacks that Trump is guilty of crimes, yet this criminality is influencing them to vote for him.

362 I have found that I have zero DNA matches to anyone with the family name (before my great grandfather).
We decided there was some shenanigans back in the 1860s.

363 Been doing genealogy for years and I was fortunate that a lot of it was written down. Lots if cousins gave me copies of the family bibles if different branches, I had them write down everything they remembered or were told, then I hit the library and the internet. We have family in Ireland back to the 1600s, a part that came to America and fought in the American Revolution. I've visited graveyards and old family homes that are still standing and talked to their owner's about what they know. My husband says I'm like a dog with a bone.

365 363: That is how my Mom is with our family's genealogy. Has done a really fine job with it too. The most awesome relative she ever discovered was a great-great-grandmother. She was, well, humble and a very religious woman. What made her interesting is where she wound up buried. At first, her church's cemetery. The church closed though and they had to take the bodies somewhere. The nearest cemetery to the church was Evans City Cemetery in Butler County, PA. Yes, the same Evans City Cemetery that was used in The Night of the Living Dead in 1967. I can now say I had a relative 'in' that movie. 6ft under but she was there!

Heh. If you find kinship to *one* Mayflower person, you will almost certainly also find kinship to at least two.

that's mostly correct.

John Alden and Priscilla Mullins were my children's 10th G-grandparents.

My mom had stylized plastic "Carvings" of John and Priscilla on a wall.
I'm sorry I threw your relatives out.

367 In a truly random sample, a population of 30 should be sufficient. The problem is getting a random sample. Pollsters make adjustments. All polls are shit.

368 I can trace my paternal side back to before Cromwell, all of my maternal grandparents were born within 30mi in Ireland. This was before DNA. A relative did the DNA thing - no serial killers found. And, they were quite accurate. Maybe we should stop marrying distant cousins.
