Who Is Case Agent 1?

From that report, written back in May by Mollie Hemingway with additional reporting by Sean Davis, partly restating a New York Times report that grudgingly admitted: spies were deployed against Trump's campaign and administration.

Following months of angry claims by journalists and Democratic operatives that the Obama administration never spied on Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, The New York Times admitted Thursday that multiple overseas intelligence assets were deployed against associates of the Republican nominee. It is not the first time the Times has revealed widespread spying operations against the campaign....

Halper was handpicked by a seasoned FBI counterintelligence agent out of the New York office, according to the article. While the Times does not identify the agent by name, the paper says the FBI agent spoke at a conference organized by Halper about a 2010 case involving Russians posing as Americans. The public schedule for a 2011 conference hosted by Halper about the exact same case shows that three FBI counterintelligence agents were invited to speak on the topic.

The three agents publicly identified as speaking at that conference on the topic are George J. Ennis, Jr., Alan E. Kohler, Jr., and Stephen M. Somma. Ennis currently serves as the special agent in charge in the FBI's New York office, according to his LinkedIn profile, and worked closely with Preet Bharara, former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, a virulent anti-Trump activist whom the president fired in 2017.

The public schedule for a 2014 conference led by Halper shows that Kohler also spoke to the same group about the same Russian case on May 9, 2014....

Real estate records show Kohler relocated to the Washington, D.C. area from Norfolk in July of 2017, shortly after special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed to investigate alleged connections between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. When asked whether Kohler had been transferred to the FBI's Washington field office, an FBI representative for that office directed the questions to the FBI headquarters in D.C. The FBI refused to comment when asked whether Kohler had been detailed to work on Mueller’s investigation of Trump or whether he was the agent responsible for deploying Halper against the Trump campaign in 2016.

I know it can't be Alan Kohler, because the FBI just gave him a huge promotion in September, and the FBI surely wouldn't promote a dirty, corrupt cop who deliberately withholds exculpatory information to frame an innocent American citizen.

Plus, when would he have had the opportunity?

He probably didn't even know Stefan Halper or Richard Dearlove (the London end of the conspiracy). Case closed!

INTELLIGENCE SEMINAR
EASTER TERM 2014 PROGRAMME

Welcome or welcome back! As in previous terms, the Seminar will provide a
forum for distinguished visiting speakers, the innovative intelligence research
in progress in Cambridge, and discussion. There is usually time in the latter
part of each Seminar for members, if they wish, to mention newly-declassified
documents in the archives and other recent discoveries.

...

The Seminar acknowledges with gratitude financial support from the Mellon
and Trevelyan Funds.

Chris Andrew (cma1001@gmail.com), Peter Martland
(spm14@cam.ac.uk), Stef Halper (hrbsh@aol.com), Sir Richard Dearlove
(Eileen.green@pem.ac.uk), Dan Larsen (drl37@cam.ac.uk) and
Bill Foster (whf21@cam.ac.uk)

...

5-30 pm Friday 9 May

Alan Kohler the FBI representative at the United States Embassy in London will talk about the challenges of modern counter espionage: including the case of Anna Chapman and other Russian illegals.

Well, okay, I guess that's a little suggestive.

But, it's not like this conference that Dearlove, Halper, and Kohler all attended also included Svetlana Lokova, the woman that Halper positioned to act as the Incriminating Russian when he contrived allegations against Flynn.

Date to be announced [Please note time & Whitehall location]
11 am (coffee) for 11-30 to 3-30 pm: joint meeting (including lunch) with
British Study Group on Intelligence at the Royal United Services
Institute, Whitehall (not far from the MOD).

The presentations will cover recent research by Cambridge PhD student
Sventlana Lokova
entitled 'Stalin and his secret Ohkrana files' and Dr Mike
Goodman will talk about his forthcoming history of the Joint Intelligence
Committee. Further details to be circulated.

Whoops. Well, okay, but...

Look, I just know that Christopher Wray told me that despite all the incredible corruption in the FBI, the FBI was still straight as an arrow and not in need of any reform, and I believe him, because if you can't trust a bureaucrat orchestrating a massive cover-up, who can you trust?

But seriously, I don't know who it is. But the universe of people it is likely to be is fairly small. The IG Report tagged him as one of Stefan Halper's handlers.

Ever posts some reason to doubt that Kohler is Case Agent 1: He says the IG report says Case Agent 1 was promoted to SSA in March 2017, but, that, per his understanding, Kohler was already an SSA at this time:

151 Ace, the IG Report states that Case Agent 1 was promoted to SSA in March 2017. Not sure how that works w Kohler bc I had read he already had the Supervisory SA distinction.

Posted by: Ever

Okay, maybe not him. How many handlers could Stefan Halper have?

It could be that Kohler was one of Halper's handlers, but not the corrupt Case Agent 1.

In which case -- who?

BTW, a new nugget we just discovered is that Halper was fired for cause in 2011. How he got back into this mix, we don't know.

---------------

My opinion - they don't need crimes, it is 100% political. That being said, crimes makes the political possible. Without crimes, it is difficult for the politics to follow. Even with crimes, the politics may not follow.

Should Trump take this to the Court? Again, my opinion is that the Court should but out. But going to the Court may be good politics - for Trump.

The Court backs you - helps your political case with the "independents" (if any exist).

The Court goes against you - helps your political case with the base.

The Court stays out of it (as they should) - that too probably helps you with your base.

Its all politics at this point. It is good politics to say there is no crime and to use that angle.

Then cross-check every bit of information obtained, verify it all through every possible means.

Unlike the FBI, take the time to make sure it's right.

After which, Public Trials, under a Military Tribunal.

Why a Military Tribunal?

'Cause they'd be on trial for the Crime of Treason.

ALL of them.

Upon conviction, they should all be sentenced to hang.

Only then, would The President choose, in some cases, to Pardon, or Commute or otherwise lessen the sentence(s) of the guilty.

But the stain of that conviction would rest upon their shoulders, 'evermore.

As to those who don't find such Presidential Mercies?

276 In case anyone needs reminding that Wallace is as much or more of a nevertrumper than Tapper, Todd, or ACosta:

Fox News host Chris Wallace on Wednesday said President Trump's continued attacks against the media amounted to the most "direct, sustained assault on the freedom of the press" in U.S. history.

"He has done everything he can to undercut the media, to try and delegitimize us," Wallace said at a Newseum event in Washington, D.C., honoring the museum's legacy ahead of its shuttering at the end of the year.

No Chris, you guys have done that all on your own. Oh and I love that he says it at the Newseum closing. Talk about obtuse.

I am not at all up on the nuts and bolts of this whole thing, but I thought the trial was held in the Senate with the senators acting as a jury with the trial presided over by the chief justice acting as judge. I don't understand how the jury decides who can testify and who can't. Deciding what witnesses can be called also implies the Senate is conducting the defense, or maybe acting as judge which also makes no sense. I probably should get up to speed on this. 347 I am not at all up on the nuts and bolts of this whole thing, but I thought the trial was held in the Senate with the senators acting as a jury with the trial presided over by the chief justice acting as judge. I don't understand how the jury decides who can testify and who can't. Deciding what witnesses can be called also implies the Senate is conducting the defense, or maybe acting as judge which also makes no sense. I probably should get up to speed on this. Anybody here able to shed some light on this?

--------------

There isn't a lot of precedence on this.

It's a trial, but not like normal trials.

Senate body, so senate rules. President could appeal to CJ if Senate refuses to have trial on terms President wants. Suspicion is CJ would vote in favor of Senate - his role being merely perfunctory.

Trump would appeal directly to the people.

Its all politics. Without a lot of precedence to guide us, I don't think anyone knows for sure.
