The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Iran is the world's foremost enabler of terror (Islamic and otherwise), conductor of terror, and creator of religious unrest throughout the Middle East and other parts of the world. It should be a pariah among nations, and the world should join together to end the 40-year reign of terror by the mullahs who rule it. Yet the world likes Iran's oil, and likes the idea of another large market to which they can sell their machine tools and exotic metal alloys and electronic components and other goods with which Iran is busily building a nuclear weapons infrastructure with the singular and fanatically focused goal of building nuclear weapons to use On Israel (Little Satan) and America (Great Satan).

Iran Dispatches a Senior Commander of the Shiite Foreign Legion to Southern Lebanon

Iran is implementing its strategic aim of turning Syria into a zone of Iranian influence. Ultimately, Iran wants to build a military infrastructure so that it can pursue its jihad against Israel on two fronts: the Lebanese border and the Golan Heights. Here, too, Iran prefers to make use of a proxy. In addition to Hizbullah, Iran is laying the groundwork to absorb tens of thousands of fighters of the Shiite Legion as they wind up the war against the Islamic State to the region from the outskirts of Damascus to the Golan Heights.
This is exactly how they do it, and how they have been doing it for two generations. They provide advisors and matériel and funds (thanks Obama!) and funnel fundamentalist Islamic "fighters" wherever they are needed. They provide political protection, bribe, blackmail or murder their opponents, and generally destabilize every single country in which they have a presence.

Every single day that goes by without the World, specifically the West vigorously pushing back against Iranian expansion and influence is a day closer to their end game, which is global war and the arrival of the 12th Imam.

Yup. They relish chaos and war and all of the things that modern society tries to avoid. Because they believe in an apocalyptic version of Islam that requires global conflagration before their version of the Messiah returns.

And the world keeps trying to buy their oil and relax the sanctions and sell them modern technology.

Brilliant...just brilliant!

Posted by: garrett at December 10, 2019 11:08 AM (dHPnP)

28 The reason I do NOT think they should be "nuked" is that they are one of the few countries in the world who have a people who ARE proud and militant enough to revolt. Now for anyone in Central or South America, or Africa, bah - forget it. Those peoples were born to be slaves of someone or other, and they will live as slaves and they will die as slaves. But the Persians are a proud people with a proud history, and they aren't going to take being ground into the dirt by corrupt dictators too much longer. As long as the Army holds together, the government stands, but if the Army ever splits, the entire shit-show collapses in a month.

Well, to be fair.

This particular "dream" plugs into a long-term goal of the Democrats as first exposed by The Clinton admin and Madeline Albright.

That is....a world with the United States as the only superpower is an incredibly dangerous world. (i know, I know. Just roll with it for a minute.

What would make the world REALLY SAFE is if there were no superpowers at all but instead 6 or 7 equal strength regional powers.

For instance, Brazil would be the assigned regional power of South America, etc.

And....Iran, yep that's right, would be the Middle East superpower.

That's a big reason the Dims and their worldwide allies are so furious with Trump:

He snatched the money away that allows Iran to mimic a global superpower.

And he resuscitated the US economy and Middle and Working classes that Obama was trying to drive into permanent 2nd or 3rd world status.

So...Iran had peeeelenty of help on this front.

By the way, China is implementing the same plan in Africa and other resource rich areas. Oblabla sat around picking his nose as they scooped up some prime oil drilling land in the Gulf of Mexico among other places.

74 >>I wonder how many Iranians who were here on student visas in late '79 decided not to return there once TSHTF.

We knew three of them -- one was a local university grad student we paired with my family as part of 'local family support for international students' program. He was a super-nice guy who adored my mom. He hated the Shah. Right before the revolution he called my mom and said goodbye, then we learned why: he had gone back to participate in it. We always wonder if he survived, and if he was part of the worst revolutionaries, or just canon fodder for them.

The other two were a married couple in the same program hosted by family friends. They stayed in the US, still live in my home town. The one Thanksgiving we shared with the other host family, where all three Iranian students were included, was a disaster. They freaked out, convinced the other one(s) were spies for Iran and would report back what was said at dinner. The couple left dinner early because of it.

My only argument with libertarians, at least the most extreme of the libertarians (there are gradations) is the belief that if we disengaged everywhere the various nations that hate our guts would merely say good riddance to bad garbage.
Unfortunately they only partially hate us for dicking with them for a century, they also hate us worse for being successful as a nation without forcing the population into peonage of some form, and they understand what a threat that is to their stability.
They will never forgive us for our prosperity and freedom.

126 The "the economic growth is because Obama" argument does make a kind of perverse sense that the Dems do *not* want to acknowledge.

Trump ran a very traditional playbook of:
* Cut taxes
* Cut regulations
* Punish foreign bad actors through trade policy

The third is hard, and the fourth plank (which I did not mention because it is so incipient right now that it basically doesn't count) is "increase efficiency through liberalizing internal medical markets and enforcing market behaviors" but this is also very hard and very new and hasn't borne fruit yet.

But of those, the first two are *extremely* easy to do, and Obama went the other way. Obama kept his boot on the neck of the American economy. He also inherited a monumental problem, but he can't ride that for more than about three years at the outside. Most of the trouble was his own making.

His acts of economic repression and strangulation meant that *anyone* who just stepped back - even if taking none of the other important actions - would have seen economic growth. Trump went way further than that and I think that is one of the major reasons we are seeing a boom, but that is somewhat beside the point.

The "Because Obama" crowd actually does have a point, but it isn't a point they like. If the last guy's policy was to crush the economy, the next guy can gin up some growth by simply stepping back.

"Cash for Clunkers" fills me with unalloyed rage. It was stupid, wasteful, expensive, short-sighted and incredibly regressive.

Some cars suck and break down all the time and are dangerous, true. But many old cars are just old. They're paid off and cheap and old and not great but they work and get you from A to B.

"Cash for Clunkers" was a great disservice to poor people and those with bad credit. I was both in 2009 and I will tell you that "used car buyer facing higher prices and 14% auto loan interest" was a bad place to be.

The interest was a given due to my poor credit and low income, but having to couple that an inflated used car market because the *entire* low end of the market was being artificially stripped away sure was awesome.

Destruction of unencumbered capital to replace it with encumbered capital as official policy is one of the most insane things I have seen in my lifetime.

165 Cash 4 clunkers was a giveaway to dealers as well. Dealers were selling new cars that qualified for the credit over MSRP. It was a short term program so short term demand spiked and raised prices drastically for new cars, as well as prices for used cars in the long run. It hurt everyone buying a car.

Not just his. Bush and Clinton played a lot of these games, too. Cash for Clunkers was a Bush policy. "The Office of the President Elect" (spit) was fully on board, though.

Much of domestic policy over the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations was focused on asset-stripping and encumbrance of capital. Astonishingly bad policy, and it went on for so long and so many phases that I have to believe that it was intentional and not because some wonk fucked up.

172 Examples like this happen all the time.

The Left refuses to admit that people's behavior changes in response to incentives, because it makes it much harder to do social engineering if you admit that people's behavior changes in response to changes in incentives.

Impose an eight percent annual wealth tax on billionaires, for example, and their behavior will change radically (they'll all move to Singapore, among other things).

Same goes the other way - a new huge bond is being proposed in Portland to provide "affordable housing" for the homeless. It never seems to occur to Portlanders that a key reason why Portland has so many homeless is that homelessness is subsidized so heavily in Portland.

They haven't groveled yet. The actress in the Peloton ad has a new ad out for Ryan Reynolds' boutique gin company. He decided to run with the idiot premise that the poor woman was abused by her husband by receiving a peloton as a gift from the online whiners, and has her sitting with two girlfriends in a bar, with martini glasses in front of them. Actress looks totally spaced out, staring ahead, no wedding ring on and then she says that the gin is really smooth. Then proceeds to slam the entire glass down at once, while her girlfriends look on with concern and mumble this is going to be a fun night. Actress says to "new beginnings" right before she slams the drink, but does it in a sad, depressed monotone.

I just can't seem to find it

So I've made my mind up
I must live my life alone
And though it's not the easy way
I guess I've always known

I'd say goodbye to love
There are no tomorrows for this heart of mine
Surely time will lose these bitter memories and I'll find
That there is someone to believe in and to live for
Something I could live for

All the years of useless search
Have finally reached an end
Loneliness and empty days
Will be my only friend
From this day love is forgotten
I'll go on as best I can

What lies in the future is a mystery to us all
No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls
There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong
But for now this is my song
And it's goodbye to love
I'll say goodbye to love

Yep, that's pretty depressing. I'm sure it resonates with a lot of people though.

215 Unfortunately, only the conclusions from the Horrowitz report are going to be trumpeted by the Media - Comey has his oped out that says, hey mistakes, I've made a few, but then again, too few to mention!

The IG report didn't actually uncover anything that a regular reader of conservative news didn't already know - and probably was not able to uncover the other 50% that actually happened. But the conclusions is all that any one will remember. It's the IG's job to uncover these rule breaking incidents and recommend that people involved be held accountable, severely - he couldn't do that and therefore he should be fired, immediately. Otherwise, what is he drawing his pay check for?

Now Durham's prosecutions have to face a defense weapon that should never had been there. And they will be used to some effect...hopefully this report won't be enough to totally derail what he's working on, but it will not be helpful.

Frederick Bastiat discussed this in his book, The Law.

In thinking about it, it is absolutely the procedure laid out in trying to punt the economy by breaking a window to force a store owner to buy a new one from the glazier; it is also the scenario of legislating bricking up everyone's windows to boost the sales of candles and candlestick makers.

In both cases Bastiat destroys the idea and anything but a destruction that does no good but distort the economy to benefit the people who have the ear of the legislature.
The Austrians push this forward too, but Bastiat died in 1850, it is not like the idea has been around and mainstream for a century and a half.

Incompetence or malice. Possibly incompetence AND malice, but what the hey.

A paid-off car is also much "greener" if you care about that. Mining, refining, shipping, manufacturing, more shipping, assembly, more shipping, distribution, etc. are *extremely* energy-intensive.

Getting rid of a working old car in favor of a working new car is a very upside-down energy transaction. It doesn't matter if the new car is fuel-efficient and the old one isn't - the already-manufactured gas-guzzler is more energy-efficient on-balance than the fuel miser that hasn't been manufactured yet.

and has her sitting with two girlfriends in a bar, with martini glasses

wedding ring on and then she says that the gin is really smooth. Then
proceeds to slam the entire glass down at once, while her girlfriends
look on with concern and mumble this is going to be a fun night. Actress
says to "new beginnings" right before she slams the drink, but does it

270 Depressing songs? I give you Nine Inch Nails:

I still recall the taste of your tears.
Echoing in your voice just like the ringing in my ears.
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore.
Scraping through my head 'till I don't want to sleep anymore.

You always were the one to show me how
Back then I couldn't do the things that I can do now.
This thing is slowly taking me apart.
Grey would be the color if I had a heart.

In this place it seems like such a shame.
Though it all looks different now,
I know it's still the same
Everywhere I look you're all I see.
Just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be.

You make this all go away.
You make this all go away.
I'm down to just one thing.
And I'm starting to scare myself.
You make this all go away.
You make this all go away.
I just want something.
I just want something I can never have

Well, I'm here to tell you now each and ev'ry mother's son
You better learn it fast; you better learn it young,
'Cause, "Someday" Never Comes."

Well, time and tears went by and I collected dust,
For there were many things I didn't know.
When Daddy went away, he said, "Try to be a man,
And, Someday you'll understand."

292 A Holiday Poem For My Ex

By Bitterous Von Clinger

As we strung up the garland
Hung lights upon the tree
An old ornament didst fill my head
With old memories of thee

The kids are so happy
Their chatter full of glee
The bourbon in the egg nog recalls to me
All the years spent with ye

One two gulps, three I took
As a warm glow washer over me
And the years flashed before my eyes
Wistfully, thought I, I'm finally free

The griping and complaining
Your constant nagging voice
But the judge would take half my paycheck
So I was trapped with no choice

You tilted the wine bottle a plenty
With your troop of "you go-girl" harpies
But my friends you ran off
My soul left black as ink from a Sharpie

Alas one day, the last foot fell
When you banged that guy from the gym
My testosterone boiled over
I found a good lawyer, and made employ of him

I spent months hiding money
Transferring to my family the deeds
And made plans for my exit
Filing my final divorce decrees

When you found out you shouted
"I'll own your paycheck"
But the kids stayed with daddy
And your life is a wreck

You went off the deep end
Got strung out on meth and coke
Your teeth are now missing
And all think you a joke

I found a younger woman
And moved on far from thee
She'll make me a sammich
And has 36 double Ds

So this Christmas is the best yet
Because I'm with somebody new
I'm hoisting my bourbon and eggnog
To being rid of you shrew!

Merry Christmas!

The IG conclusion was that the gun was fired, but procedures were followed, or some BS. I'm not sure FIBs protecting their fellow FIBbers will carry more weight than real evidence, but sure, they can use it.

Unfortunately, you will not probably be on in that jury pool. Most folks believe the cops over anything else, and if the cops say nothing was done wrong here, then that is going to be a tough hurdle to get over. Case in point, there was a police shooting of an unarmed and innocent hotel patron in AZ a couple of years ago, that on tape showed conclusively that the police shot the man, prone on the ground with no weapon...the police got off scot-free at the subsequent trial for the shooting anyway. Just a mistake, you see...no malice or intent. Expect that attitude when or if Durham brings a case because the prosecution will - that's why they made a loud objection yesterday to this farce conclusion by the IG.

338 "Just saw on Insty that Chinese exports to the US are down 23%, which I'm gonna count as #Winning."

sure, moving the right direction, now. Trade deficit was down 7.6% in October, but still higher than most of the Obama years even ... I guess due to wealth effect of the roaring stock market (which is still globalist, and still propped up with "easy money").

Deficit (not just trade) had been increasing under Trump even, the last few months are better ... "free money and unlimited spending are leading us to "communism" by proxy of monetary policy, imo. But it has to continue until it breaks, because "responsible cuts" mean losing elections.

Much of the burden is in interest on our massive debt ... we might as well do MMT, just print it, then we pay no interest. Since we can't quit spending, that is a better solution, the only one till something "breaks". DOW 36K ... Trump 2020 chant.
