Nice color. Is art.
Yesterdays art was almost entirely earth tones and someone mentioned that it could use some contrast. Well, feast your eyes. Like yesterday, much of the background is dark and somewhat muddy and red, but there are a lot more shots of color in the various textile patterns. It offsets the model and makes her stand out, which is probably the point. Her white and blue getup doesn't conflict with room but it makes it very clear that she is not part of it. I often don't care about portraits unless there is an historical aspect. But this one is interesting as it's not just a fomal pose. The lady has an amused expression that catches the viewer's attention. Meissonier's artistic talent is evident with the way he uses color, the darker reds and earth tones against the brilliant whites and blues of the lady's gown, and the way he provides detail in the clothing. Also, the model almost pops out of the painting with light against the darker, simpler background. Very effective.
Posted by: JTB at December 11, 2019 09:43 AM (7EjX1) 46
This is a beautiful portrait. The juxtaposition of colors and patterns makes it really nice to look at. The heavy, vivid red background provides a nice frame for the bright white and ivory dress. Her pose is almost a right triangle, a very stable shape, but the dress's train makes the triangle appear to lean slightly to the right. That turns the static form into something more dynamic. The blue accents follow the triangle's contours, defining it and helping to separate it from the red. Without the blue, the white would look... odd.
Finally, I like how the plain white dress contrasts with the heavily patterned red background. But the dress's lace trim echos the patterns slightly so that the contrast isn't stark. This is a charming painting. I like it. Posted by: Kris at December 11, 2019 09:43 AM (OyyDO) 47
'Tis okay. There are servants for that.

I see Trump is holding steady at 50% approval. He is 6 points higher than obama at the same time in his Presidency.
Imagine what Trump's approval would be if the msm was really reporting news like historic unemployment and stock market records being hit literally every week since Trump was sworn in. The economy is literally on fire and we don't see a single word about it in the media. All we see is constant 24/7 attacks on Trump and his policies. His approval would be well over 65% if they were as unbiased as they claim to be. Posted by: Mr. Scott (Formerly GWS) at December 11, 2019 10:08 AM (JUOKG) 131

I have submitted the prayer list to OregonMuse, but I don't know if I missed the deadline for today. If I did and your request wasn't there please let me know. Also, I didn't include this on the prayer list, but I want to thank everyone for their prayers for my elderly organist, Jessie, who fell and broke her ankle. She had her surgery but the process of recovery is a long one and you have to use your ankle to play the organ. She is an excellent organist and a sweet soul, and this is one of the things she lives to do-to praise and give glory to God through her music, so continued prayers are appreciated. Why the Media is the enemy of We the People, exhibit #1,345,365.
Oberlin College lost a legal challenge to unseal the Facebook postings of one of the Gibson family. A member of the family who was not even part of the legal case. So these Cleveland media outlets next sought to unseal these postings. Gibson's legal team noted in their opposition to this latest attempt at legal doxxing that these same media outlets for ten years had as one of their legal analysts one of Oberlin College's hired legal guns. The media outlets have responded and have failed to even mention this possible evidence of collusion. Well, I went to The View for just a moment, so you guys wouldn't have to.
Chris Christie is the guest, and he's letting the coven lie, make up "facts," and make their viewing audience even dumber than they initially were. He's not correcting a single, damned thing they're saying about Trump and our "democracy" and his "destroying of our Constitution." Apparently, Clinton was impeached because he "just had an affair," not because he lied under oath. Jeebus. And now I need a shower and brain bleach.
