THE SATURDAY NIGHT JOKE

Momma Pea and Daddy Pea were thrilled to have Baby Pea join their little family and, as he grew, delighted in teaching him about the world around him. As Baby Pea grew old enough to be taught about how to explore the neighborhood, his parents decided it was time to teach him how to navigate crossing the street.

So one day, Momma Pea and Daddy Pea took Baby Pea to the side of the road to show the youngster how to cross. Daddy Pea spoke first – the important thing is to look left, look right, and look left again and, if no traffic can be seen, it is safe to cross. I’ll show you – Daddy Pea looked left, looked right and looked left again and, since no cars were visible, he rolled across the road to the other side.

Once Daddy Pea was safely across, Momma Pea spoke up. Now remember Baby Pea, look left, look right, and look left again and, if no traffic can be seen, it is safe to cross. Like this - Mommy Pea looked left, looked right and looked left again and, since no cars were visible, she rolled across the road to the other side. Now with Mommy and Daddy Pea on the other side of the road, they waved their Pea Arms and motioned for Baby Pea to cross the street.

Baby Pea had listened intently to the Momma Pea and Daddy Pea’s directions. So, he looked left, looked right, and looked left again and, seeing nothing coming started to cross. But as soon as he started, a car appeared - Momma Pea and Daddy Pea were frantic and started to holler but Baby Pea knew what to do - and he quickly rolled back to where he had started and was, once more, safely on the side of the road.

Momma Pea and Daddy Pea were quite relieved and again, noticed no traffic in the roadway and motioned for Baby Pea to come over. So, he looked left, looked right, and looked left again and, seeing nothing coming, rolled off to cross. Baby Pea was rolling along nicely but, being a Baby Pea, he took longer to roll across than his parents. When he was halfway across, a speeding semi started to bear down on him. Momma Pea and Daddy Pea were screaming with terror to roll faster and Baby Pea gave it all he had but alas, the semi ran him over and squashed him flat.

Horrified, Momma Pea and Daddy Pea rushed to his side, folded him up and called 911 for Pea EMS. They arrived in minutes and rushed Baby Pea to Pea Hospital where he was immediately taken to the Pea Emergency Room.

Momma Pea and Daddy Pea clutched each other tearfully and prayed mightily for a miracle for Baby Pea. Soon, Doctor Pea came out of the treatment room, soaked in sweat from his exertions.

Momma Pea, Daddy Pea, I have good news and bad news. The good news is Baby Pea will live. Momma Pea and Daddy Pea were overcome with joy and hugged each other and jumped up and down.

Finally, Daddy Pea asked, “Oh, what’s the bad news?

Doctor Pea said “He’s going to be a vegetable for the rest of his life.”H/T tonypete

Unhappy with the customer service you recently had? There's a site for that.

When you have a terrible experience at a restaurant or store, you might not know where to turn. Maybe you even alerted a manager or customer service agent, only to get ignored. As a pissed off consumer, you want to post a review or complaint online.

Online reviews can help warn other customers about an untrustworthy company, and can also help your problem reach a satisfying conclusion. If you want to comment on a business or product, head to these consumer complaint sites.

Are you a Moron who identifies as a hippie. You might want to live in Joshua Tree, CA.

What would you say if I told you there is a place in Southern California's high desert that is an arts community yet to be overrun with tourists and would-be influencers? A place that is perhaps one of the last remaining vestiges of SoCal desert boho/hippie culture, where there are no chain restaurants, no orchestrated "Instagrammable moments," no garish attractions screaming at you in neon for your tourist dollars, and really no immediately obvious attempt at tourism infrastructure despite being 10 minutes from a national park?

Speaking of snow, here's a great way to measure it.

While we can’t change the weather (yet?), we, as a society, have made extraordinary strides in predicting what’s happening next. There are definitely glitches and mistakes, sure, and there are also limitations to what we can successfully predict. On the other hand, getting data after-the-fact is something we’ve mastered: if you want to know how hot it was yesterday or how intense a storm was, we have a lot of computers and seemingly magical monitoring tools which give data scientists the ability to measure that in real-time, creating a record for history.

But when it comes to measuring snowfall, technology isn’t the answer. There’s no great way to measure the net effect of snowstorms from a distance — as an example, the satellites used to observe storms don’t also tell you how much snow they dump on the ground. So what is the National Weather Service to do?

They ask for help. Volunteers, just like you and me.

Benjamin Franklin and Electrocuted Turkeys.

There are a couple of ways to cook turkey. There is the safe way where you cook the turkey in the oven. But if you don’t want to cook the turkey the safe way, there is a dangerous way of cooking it, and that is by deep-frying it. High risk, high return, so they say. But if you’re not satisfied with the deep-frying method, then you can opt to a more dangerous method, and that is by killing the turkey by electrocution, which the Founding Father Benjamin Franklin did.

Franklin began to study electricity as he was approaching 40. His scientific interest on the subject was piqued when he saw a show by Archibald Spencer, a scientist/showman known for performing various parlor tricks involving electricity. Franklin was so fascinated by electricity that he tried to reproduce Spencer’s parlor tricks in his own home.

Through his experiments, Franklin was able to demonstrate that electricity consisted of a common element he called "electric fire," arguing that it flowed like a liquid, passing from one body to another. He studied how sparks jumped between charged objects, correctly concluding that lightning was merely a massive electric spark. And he coined several electricity-related terms we still use today: "charging," "discharging," "conductor," and "battery," for instance.

Those who celebrate Christmas with a real tree you might be facing higher prices.

A tight supply of Christmas trees in some parts of the country could mean parting with some extra green to get in the holiday spirit this year.

Farmers in major tree-growing states like Oregon, Michigan, North Carolina and Missouri have cited hot weather, the 2008 recession and too much rain as factors in fewer trees being produced this year.

The smaller supply could mean higher prices for trees in several areas of the country.

However, while the national supply of trees is tight, everyone who wants one should be able to get one, one expert said.

"There is not a single community in the country that ever ran out of Christmas trees,'' Tim O'Connor, the executive director of the National Christmas Tree Association, told TODAY.

The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTM

Consider this a gentle reminder that some older devices are losing support for Netflix on December 1, including select Roku, Samsung, and Vizio units.

Last month, Netflix told Gizmodo that some users would lose support for the streaming service beginning the first week of December due to “technical limitations.” More specifically, a company spokesperson said that a “small percentage” of older devices were running on Windows Media DRM, and those devices that aren’t able to upgrade to Microsoft PlayReady won’t be able to support Netflix.

Thoughtless, selfish and just a plain Dumb Fuck Genius Award Winner.

The 2019 Egg Bowl ended in absolute chaos.

When Ole Miss scored with four seconds remaining in regulation, the game looked destined for overtime. That was until Rebels wideout Elijah Moore got a little too frisky when celebrating his touchdown that cut Mississippi State’s lead to 21-20.

Yes, that is Moore crawling on the turf and pretending to pee like a dog (in homage to DK Metcalf) — a celebration that drew a 15-yard penalty. Instead of setting up a normal extra point, the try was 15 yards longer than usual.

Predictably, Luke Logan pushed his kick to the right, allowing Mississippi State to hold on to a wild 21-20 win.

Genius Award Winner meets Feel Good Story of The Day.

“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face,” said Stewart. “I am going to defend my life and those I love,” he said. “My family is innocent and just don’t put an AK-47 in my face. I will not allow that to happen. This guy also hijacked a woman in a van and was found with her car key. He robbed another woman at gunpoint.”

“You want to come looking for trouble?” he continued. “Come to me. Come to me. I wouldn’t do anything like this to anybody and they picked the wrong person in this case.”

“I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica,” he said, “and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest. This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping and he was surprised to see what I did.”

81 Bacon. I found a pound of Oscar Mayer thick sliced bacon in the bottom of the freezer this morning. The use or freeze by date was Feb 2011. 90 Genius Award Winner aftermath was predictable.

The receiver issued a statement
I apologize to my teammates, coaches and Rebel Nation for my actions at the end of the game, Moore said through a team spokesperson, making his first public comment on the game. It was an emotional moment, and I deeply regret it. It does not represent who I am or who we are as a team, and I will grow stronger from this mistake.

The coach and AD issued a statement
Discipline is a staple of our program as evidenced by being the least penalized team in our league, and we will continue to uphold an uncompromising standard of behavior on and off the field. In maintaining our teams high level of accountability, we will address the matter, and disciplinary action will be handled internally.

And now you know the rest of the story.

Posted by: Ladyl at November 30, 2019 10:31 PM (TdMsT)

119 Be of good cheer in 2020! Something I read during my Thanksgiving travels:

Readers of right-wing blogs know that increasingly, "transgender" athletes are winning women's sports competitions. The mainstream media has been largely ignoring this, because they know that it is political dynamite. They are treating these stories as local sports stories - you aren't seeing think pieces in the New York Times saying how wonderful it is that transgender "women" are winning these competitions. The hope is that this will get normalized before the average American starts paying attention.

Unfortunately for them, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is next summer. The Olympic committee requires that transgender athletes take testosterone-limiting drugs, but a transgender athlete is allowed a level of testosterone five times the level of a normal female athlete. (In any case, the real benefit of testosterone is being exposed to it while maturing - current testosterone levels are much less important.)

There are already two hundred transgender athletes in the NCAA, plus others abroad (like that New Zealand weightlifter). The obvious outcome is that transgender athletes will win a chunk of the women's gold medals in Tokyo, and will be utterly dominant in track and field and weightlifting. You will see a succession of 6'3'' 230-pound "women" ascending the victory stand.

This will happen three months before the Presidential election. The Democratic candidate will doubtless try to dodge the issue, but given the publicity surrounding the Olympics, and given pressure from the Democratic base, it will be difficult to avoid commenting on this.

OTOH, Donald Trump will go to town on this. You couldn't ask for a better issue to piss off soccer moms at a visceral level, as they realize that their daughters will be increasingly shut out of women's athletic competition at an elite level.

Scorched Earth
It's time to take the gloves off and stop pretending. Sometimes a brand name needs to be hyperbolic to truly capture hearts and minds. If we don't take massive action now, Earth will be uninhabitable -- an irreversible barren wasteland. Plants and animals will die. Humans won't be able to survive extreme weather like floods, droughts and fires. If we don't change, we won't even be able to spend time outside. "Scorched Earth" paints the direst picture of what's to come and what we must avoid and is likely the edgiest brand name from our exploration.

177 Have baked bacon in the oven many times, 30 minutes at 375 will render pure charcoal. It doesn't take long. 15 minutes. Turn frequently, or not, but in case watch closely. It is more convenient to bake it than pan fry, but in my considered opinion it is more difficult to get a consistently good result, particularly that certain elusive perfect crispiness that is the hallmark of Bacon, aka "Meat Candy. It tends to be a little chewy and tastes "institutional", as that is the way mess halls and restaurants and the like make it when cooking for large numbers of people.

I like poached eggs with slightly w/runny yolks on buttered toast and bacon, maybe crispy hasbrowns with onions and cheese. A few shots of Tabasco over the whole mess. Oh, for true Arteriosclerotic Delight smothered with sausage gravy, side of toast and jelly, and strong black coffee.

200 I've been expecting a severe winter this year, and am grimly gratified to see I was right.

My prediction is based on the Law of Cosmic Timing. It's pretty simple, really: the Universe has a mean sense of humor. The media and the brain-damaged Swedish girl have been ranting more than usual about how we're scorching the Earth by not giving money to "Green Energy" companies which made big donations to Democrats last election.

This is a perfect setup for a gag. The self-important blowhard rants about the planet warming: naturally the next shot is of the same blowhard up to her eyebrows in snow.

I laid in extra firewood this winter. The Universe simply can't pass up a straight line like that.

Twenty-five years ago, the music critic for the San Francisco Chronicle decided he had better things to do than attend a performance of the SF Symphony in a park, so he reviewed the concert without attending it. Unfortunately for him, the symphony made a last-second change in its program, so it was obvious that he hadn't gone to the concert.

This is not the only newspaper music critic that this has happened to.

It made no sense. How did it track with Smith's character arc? It's like they ran out of money.

And who were the people coming through the portal?

Over at Entertainment Weekly, showrunner David Scarpa said the scene was intentionally ambiguous. “Part of the intention was to invite the audience to have their own interpretation of what they’re seeing on screen.” Though he does offer a tantalizing detail. “The portal is, essentially, open and it is going to remain open. In effect, what that means is two worlds have become one. There’s a doorway from one world into the next, and now people can move freely between them.”

But doesn't this go against the rule that you can't visit a world in which your double is still alive? Feh.

232 Bacon just fries better in a pan, no way around it, imo. Lean bacon needs more bacon grease at times. Sometimes bacon is "stubborn", it just doesn't fry well. I like the concept or the idea of thick cut bacon in principle, but it doesn't crisp correctly. Same with the boutique bacon. I like Nueskes, but it's a little spendy. To me, hickory smoked bacon is unsurpassed. No pepper, or applewood-bristelcone-teak smoked fancy-pants hipster bacon need apply.

Microwave? Good for boiling water, or reheating coffee. Basically just a tongue burning rubber food generator.

I've noted before that Portland, one of the most gay-friendly cities on the planet, doesn't have a single lesbian bar, because any lesbian bar will immediately be colonized by obnoxious men wearing dresses, and lesbians don't want to hang out with obnoxious men wearing dresses. Large lesbian parties are organized via closed Facebook groups, so the trannies won't find out about them.

If trannies start taking all the women's gold medals in Tokyo, lesbians will be among the groups most upset with this.

323 Well, despite the bitter cold, I got a few things done today. Took trash to the dump, and a box of scrap circuit boards to the "electronics" recycle (and didn't see anything there worthy of uh, "liberating").

Got home, and backed the pickup into the far north corner of my yard where the old truck frame loaded with rear axles and exhaust pipes sits. Dug through the pile, and found a Model 27 axle with 3.73 gears and flanged axles, to be used on my '60 Lark that lives in Arizona. Put the axle on the truck, toted it around to the front of the garage, and got it inside on a work stand. I will check it out, service it, and install new brakes on it.

Two small problems:

1) The organizers want the State of Oregon to pony up $40 million (about ten bucks per resident).

2) The organizers plan on handing out $7.2 million in winnings for athletes, and they want that money to be exempted from Federal and state income taxes.

387 I watched American Graffiti today, a few thoughts on the cars being an old motorhead;

Ron Howard's character lends his '58 Chevy Impala to "Toad", who tries to impress Candy Clark's character saying the 58 had a "327 with 3 Strombergs". That was the most nitpicked line in the movie as the 327 didn't come out until 1962.

Theoretically it COULD have had the engine, but you'd have to find a wrecked Corvette to get it from. Howard's character wasn't a gearhead, he was a jock and class president, who probably got the car as a graduation gift.

The actual car used had a 348 with 3 deuces which was available in 1958 and certainly in 1962

Harrison Ford's 55 Chevy was the same exact car used in "Two Lane Blacktop". The actual car had a 454 with dual quads on a high rise manifold. It had a one piece fiberglass nose and had some fiberglass inlays in the door and body panels to lighten it.

Paul Le Mat's Deuce Coupe in actuality had a 327 with a four deuce setup. They didn't know for sure what the engine was until someone took it apart after they bought it from the production company. I believe it was later repainted and reused for the Martin Sheen tv movie "California Kid"

In 1962 a popular small block build was to stroke and bore the 283 to 301 cubic inches.

In the final drag race, Falfa had the faster car but Milner was the better driver. Had him by a car length at the line because Falfa punched it too hard for the tires to gain traction.

It's the smaller things that indicate the future of Western Europe.

The baggage handlers for Transavia Airlines at the Lyon airport, who are 90% North African Muslims, are deliberately delaying unloading baggage from flights from Tel Aviv. (Luggage from Algeria is unloaded immediately, of course.)

On November 10th, after waiting two hours for their luggage, frustrated passengers finally rushed the secure baggage area to get their bags, causing the airport police to intervene after fist fights broke out between passengers and baggage staff.

A couple of reasons. What collectors are looking for changes all the time. For instance pre-1967 VW Buses with all the windows are going for big bucks.

Another is that the 55-57 T-Birds were usually owned by men in their 30's and 40's who didn't run them really hard or often. They were always considered a classic so they tended not to end up in junkyards. Over the years there would still be quite a few still around and in good shape, so they're not rare enough to command the big auction bucks.

You want the queen out of the way so you can have the king all to yourself? You're gay?

When I played serious chess, I loved fishes who moved their queen into play early in the game. Talk about a target rich environment. On the other hand, a good queen sacrifice is truly magnificent to watch unfold. So says the former USCF Class D rated player (who was 2-3 with 1 withdrawal [parents had to drive back home to go to work] in his only real 'big leagues' tournament). But I learned a lot of chess psychology in that one tournament, like an opponent eating from a can of peanuts and breathing heavily in an attempt to distract me; didn't work as that was one of the two games I won.

Popular question.

1 - Naturally Obama would pick someone so loopy that he wouldn't even notice that ValJar was the real vice president.

2 - Goodness only knows what went down at that head-to-head between Obama and Hillary after he got the nom in 2008, but it's safe to bet that they agreed SoS would make a fine road to her 2016 presidency. It benefited her, although I have no idea what he was supposed to get in return -- a percentage of her "earnings" as SoS? I'm open to theories on this.

Besides, Obama didn't trust Hillary (or Kerry) with anything important - he had Valerie Jarrett doing the negotiations on the Iran deal, for example.

I recall that once something big was happening in the Middle East, and Hillary was off in Africa at a conference on the status of African women.

In the Senate she'd be 1 of 100. As SoS, she be the only 1. Plus, Obama bucked a trend when he won, mostly on racism being half-black and all, by winning the presidency as a junior senator without a full term under his belt. Hill Dog knew enough about history regarding senate candidates running for the presidency and losing that that wasn't a good option. When was the last time a sitting senator, before Obama, won the presidency? Plus less opportunity for graft in the Senate, especially the size of illicit graft income she made while SoS. The plummeting of The Clinton Foundation coffers after she left the SoS position and lost the presidential race attests to that.

I was away from the computer for a while, changing out all the bad paper capacitors in a radio for a '51 Studebaker.

3.73 gears are leaning towards the "performance" end of the range. 3.31, 2.87, 3.07 are the classic cruising gears. So a truck with 15 or 16 inch tires with a 3.73 gearset will sound pretty spun up, much over 60 mph. I want 3.73's in my Lark because it is slated to get an overdrive transmission. With OD engaged, the overall ratio will be 2.6-something.

Churchill would not allow Ultra information to be disseminated unless there was some other source that could be named, even if that source was kind of sketchy. Interesting fact, the German Navy had compromised the British Merchant fleet code and the Brits didn't know it, and refused to believe the code had been broken. It cost a lot of merchant sailors lives before they figured it out.

566 RickZ we had plenty of code-breaking in the Pacific, as noted by others. And the term "Ultra" was used for some of the product, borrowing from the ETO products from Bletchley Park. And we were reading the diplomatic ["Purple"] code well before Pearl Harbor, and after.

Among other things, the Purple penetration contributed to the evacuation order for Japanese-Americans from the west coast [there was a lot of specific intel behind the action, whatever it's substantive or constitutional merits/demerits, it wasn't really much like the 80s commission slanderously portrayed], and provided incredible direct intel from Hitler's mouth, as transmitted by Japan's amabassador in Berlin.

It was made very public (at least in part) as a pre-condition to HRC becoming SoS.

Publicly, that any foreign gift to the Clinton Foundation had to be approved by the big O.

HRC didn't report anything much; BHO didn't insist or ask.

The rot started when it was decided that HRC could do as she pleased, the law be damned, with approval from the President.

And I note, that when BHO was elected President, for the first time in my life I was not proud of my country.

570 Miklos, again, Pearl itself was never specified in Japan's declaration of war. Like I said earlier, it was a failure of imagination. And America was still not on a full war footing. The country was majority isolationist. I wasn't alive then, but I would bet that the correct "thinking" at the time was Yes, they will declare war, but they will wait until tomorrow to act. Remember at the time, Hitler had invaded Poland in September 1939, England and France had declared war on Germany, but the offensive against them hadn't happened until May of 1940. It was the civilized thing to do, after all.

The commander of the USS Guadalcanal task force, Cpt Gallery, almost screwed himself when he captured the U-505 off of West Africa in 1944. TPTB worried the Germans might hear of the capture of a U-boat and change their codes. What would normally be considered a great naval feat earning honors almost sank Cpt Gallery.

572 Like I said earlier, it was a failure of imagination.

The Battle Fleet was only moved from San Diego to Pearl Harbor during the summer of 1940.

The commander, Admiral James O. Richardson, protested the move, precisely because the fleet in Hawaii would be vulnerable to Japanese attack, and was replaced by Admiral Kimmel.

576 I believe the decision whether to scuttle U-505 right there or tow it back to the US, and risk having it seen by another U-boat that we had captured one intact - thus endangering our code-breaking a day before the planned date of D-Day in France - went all the way up to Admiral King.

577 Pearl itself was never specified in Japan's declaration of war.

Old Blue amigo!

They were surprised themselves that the deadline in the Japanese cable indicated..oh shit...Pearl Harbor!

The duty officers realized it, too late, the question is what happened when they informed Adm. "Betty" Stark?

Posted by: Miklos, two hours is better than nothing at December 01, 2019 02:46 AM (QzkSJ)

578 What's interesting is that the US Navy had war gamed an attack on Pearl by Japanese forces. Orange vs Blue. Much later, it was gamed again and found that if the US fleet had had more warning, the damage would have been worse. Some of the forces that were badly damaged in Pearl would be raised to fight again. Had they been out to sea and sunk in deep waters, there was no recovery. That said, the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor was a great tactical victory. Strategically, the day the Japanese attacked, was the day they would lose the war.

Posted by: Old Blue at December 01, 2019 02:49 AM (VNmG1)

579 540 In that sense, Morse is like sign language. The audio and the standard written language is irrelevant.

Signals mean words/concepts. Morse obviates a lot of the need for
language knowledge, because Morse talk is not linguistically complex.

i have no idea what you're talking about. morse is essentially huffman-coded text; it's just a way of encoding the alphabet for transmission. which means you have to have an alphabet to send and what you send is based on both the alphabet you're using and the huffman-coding table you've chosen.

Japanese doesn't have an alphabet.

Conversion to Morse (or sign language) obviates the need for deciphering a complex kanji writing system.

Even Yamamoto stated that a victory at Pearl would only guarantee Japanese naval forces would have 6 months 'to run riot' in the Pacific. Especially so when there were no carrier losses at Pearl. The Japanese were carrier innovators and knew their value; the US Navy was still controlled by the battleship admirals. Pearl changed that, out of necessity. Midway put an exclamation point on that change in thinking.

Posted by: RickZ at December 01, 2019 02:55 AM (Y8PSl)

582 For those with an interest in the Pearl Harbor attack, I recommend a book by Alan Zimm [Attack on Pearl Harbor: strategy, combat, myths, deceptions].

Lots of interesting new-to-me items - Genda and Fuchida didn't really deliver the attack plan requested, Fuchida f**ked up the key surprise/no surprise signal to the airborne first wave, the Japanese had a very bad dud rate with certain bombs, the oil tank farm was not a good target for the force available and its destruction would not likely have changed much, and much more.

See my next comment. Had the fleet put to sea, it could have been much worse. Betty Stark's hesitation may have actually save a good many lives. It's easy for us to sit here almost 80 years later and say that this should have been done, or that should have been done. Hell, if I had been in charge, Hitler would have taken Moscow before November. History is just that. We can debate actions that were, or were not taken, but it won't change the past.
And by the by, did you see the Midway movie, and was it any good? Historically accurate and all that?

584 the oil tank farm was not a good target for the force available and its

As I understand it, they didn't want to hit the tank farm because the smoke would have obscured the bombers. Still a major mistake.

Meanwhile I've got to go from the Pacific back to pre-war Germany, where I'm reading about how the Nazi regime coerced and managed and organized industry to pursue rearmament and self-sufficiency while still struggling with a disastrous foreign exchange situation and continuing mass unemployment [Tooze - Wages of Destruction].

The airport I rarely use is the one where Doolittle's Raiders came together.

"Stark's hesitation"- well that is the question. Was it Stark's? He went to the White House...he knew...any hesitation was FDR's. There were better ways to inform Pearl than ordinary Western Union. No larger ships could have gotten up steam and left (at least 14 hours for a battleship).

I'm sure Kimmel and Short would have appreciated a heads up, though.

593 Japanese doesn't have an alphabet.

Posted by: Anachronda

The Morse Code is based on a bit of Western Dead White Men Cultural Imperialism.

The latin alphabet, specifically.

Japanese messages, essentially, had to be translated into a form based on a system known to American code breakers. This made the job easier, because they were looking for patterns in a comprehensible format.

The Germans had a hardware solution (Enigma).

The Japanese had software encryption (writing style and lack of linguists on the American side).

When short and direct Japanese naval or military terms were converted to Morse, the Japanese used a system and style based on the latin alphabet.

Effectively, the Japanese did half of the data conversion by using the enemy's OS and Data Terms of Service.
