Wall Street Journal: Google Is Blacklisting Conservative News Sites, Despite Denials Made Under Oath

The WSJ compared Duckduckgo and Google autocomplete results in Joe Biden, and found that 'creepy' was suggested every time by the former but never by Google.Here's an example of that: I just googled "John Solomon" to find his most recent reporting, and his own blog, JohnSolomonReports.com. Google answered my query with a page full of media hits on Solomon -- including from the ostensibly-authoritative trash website Daily Beast -- attacking his credibility. The link to his actual blog did not appear on the first page of results. Frustrated, I opened Bing and searched there. They do this deliberately. They claim "it's the algorithm," but the algorithm is made -- and repeatedly tweaked and biased -- by intentional human action.

They're telling you to build your own internet, as well as your own credit-card payment transfer companies so that people can subscribe and donate. All you need to do is make your own internet and your own banks. And then hope that Google doesn't just pay its "conservative" allies enough to get them to lobby to make the new internet and new banks illegal.

Their payment processor dropped them. Every time they got a new system in place...boom, all of a sudden they got dropped by someone else. It's almost like there's a concerted effort to control what you are permitted to see.

I stopped donating to the HF when they shit-canned DeMint (who may, or may not, have had it coming - never been clear to me). Still get almost monthly requests to "renew my membership".
Last month I wrote them back stating in gruesome detail why I cannot ever envision a reason why I would ever send them another dime of my take-home pay. Reaboi's tweet, above, pretty much summarizes the first point I made.

I use DuckDuckGo for searches. Been doing so for years. Google collects enough on me without me being an active participant in it.

Actually Good Ol' Wm Jefferson helped moved the Overton Window on that in my opinion. When the left had to choose between preserving the value of a legal oath vs giving one of their own a mulligan you could practically hear societal norms creaking and shifting. They were right to impeach him for lying, wrong not to remove.

DDG (and their short-form URL of 'ddg.gg' - which is easier to type) works well. I still revert to Google for purely technical searches I need to do my job. Google still seems to do a better job on the focused technical queries. At this point, many others are better in the other areas.

It's beyond an algorithm. Google maintains a curated blacklist of sites that they will never show results for, including Infowars and the Daily Stormer. Whatever the SPLC decides people should never be allowed to see.
This is why I have to laugh whenever anyone is aghast at the Chinese or Iranians censoring their internet, as if it's not happening in America. It's just been outsourced to the private sector.

There's another, long term factor. Oaths made sense in a society where the vast majority of the people had deep religious beliefs. Even though they differ, just about all religions agree about the seriousness of oaths and such.
But in a society where no one believes in anything beyond themselves, what's an oath? Just words, nothing more. No better, no worse than any other words. Nice if it makes foolish people think you're serious.

They asserted that they can do what they want because their users accepted their terms of service. When asked directly if they compile information on people *who are not members* and use it, they all said no.
That was a lie. Their cookies and social media buttons track you constantly. I am not a Facebook user, so they don't explicitly know who I am necessarily, but they sure know all about me thanks to all of the cookies and pingbacks. I never agreed to their terms of service, yet they still have a probably very complete dossier on me.
When they got away with telling such an obvious lie, the fix was very clearly in. The state prefers the informal social credit system and treasure-trove databases that these fuckers are building far more than they prefer justice, honesty, liberty, etc.

I listen to some podcasts run by liberals that don't directly involve politics. One in particular is a philosophy podcast called Very Bad Wizards which I find entertaining.

Their hosting service dropped them.
Their backup hosting service dropped them.
Their domain registrar dropped them.
Their payment processor dropped them.
Every time they got a new system in place...boom, all of a sudden they got dropped by someone else.
It's almost like there's a concerted effort to control what you are permitted to see.

There's another, long term factor. Oaths made sense in a society where the vast majority of the people had deep religious beliefs. Even though they differ, just about all religions agree about the seriousness of oaths and such.

Look, I agree with the philosophy that if you don't like the behavior of Google (or Facebook, or Twitter)...you should create your own platform to further competitive capitalism thus creating a more fluid market that forces the offending entities to change their ways or get pigeon holed into a smaller niche.
Here's the problem. Silicon Valley is conspiring together to assure that is an impossibility. When an upstart challenges one of their chosen group, the other entities circle the wagons and disallow that new company a foothold. For example, Paypal will refuse to do business with them as will every other "chosen" payment processing entity. It's textbook violation of the RICO Act. The only way to compete on a lucrative level would be for a massive investment in the process. You'd need your own server farms. You'd need your own payment processing. And, of course, you would require you own innovative software platform. And, if you think Silicon Valley won't orchestrate an aggressive Civil Suit barrage challenging every single aspect of your platform as a violation of their own patented software, you are fooling yourself. They have a stranglehold on all potential competition simply because they conspire to do so. And, no one tells them they are breaking the law in that regard...so they keep doing it and stifling the free market....purposefully.

It was my guys who came up with the data that showed JUST HOW MANY OF OUR SEARCH QUERIES WERE FOR PORN-RELATED TOPICS.
The guys (and girls) who ran the search engine had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what their traffic looked like, to them running the thing was a technical exercise. They could GAF about monetization. It was a technology demonstrator for a company that built hardware.
When a few organizational changes came along and suddenly revenue mattered, and we showed them where the revenue would come from, the antacids were consumed in bulk.

to me that the only way they can make these even close to safe is to
put them on roads that are 100% self-driving. Easier to code when there
is one set of standard behaviors for a car vs. trying to create
responses to the myriad of possible unpredictable human behaviors, etc..
And if that happens, then people will likely stop owning cars (do you
really own it if you don't control it? why bother?), and THEN it will be
like Chinese social credit system or any current social media service

What I see in the long term is that American society is increasingly diverging from the Constitutional basis on which it was founded.
Freedom of speech once reflecte, and guaranteed free expression and freedom of conscience in a society that largely valued it.
Today we have large swaths of those who are culturally non-American or anti-American (including native born indoctrinated youth) to the point that they just don't value what the constitution and law supposedly protects.
So in the main our society increasingly operates, day to day, without the values of free speech (cancel culture, doxing yesterdays contested policy as today's heresy, heckler's vetos on campus etc etc).
At their worst the anti-freedom crowd cynically games the law to advance unfreedom. The rest mostly just have a tin ear for the music of freedom vs the notes: believeing "the Constitution" will save them when they are not free in a meaningful sense in their own lives.

When the late, lamented BFF was first diagnosed with cancer, I moved up to take care of her and we thought this was going to be months long thing, not three weeks. As a result, I brought along my Xbox and various games, including GTAIV (the then most current).
One day, one of her cousins asked me if I cared if her son, who was 10, played my Xbox and I said no problem, what does he want to play. She said GTA. I stared at her and asked her if she knew what the game was and she said yes. I assumed her 10 year old had lied to her and I asked her if she knew that you played a gangster and the game involved things like shooting cops and running strings of hookers. She said oh it was fine he played it at home all the time. I said, that's nice, then he can play at home but not mine. No possible way.
I still cannot believe anyone would let a 10 year old play GTA.
Could have save time and effort by just watching people play Grand Theft Auto.

AltaVista was DA BOSS. Best search engine ever. It just gave you the raw results, no filter. It was amazing. People who have never experienced it have no clue what they're missing. People these days are so used to having put through algorithms and filters never realize that they simply aren;t seeing reality or the truth. And it's not like the search engines are incapable of delivering unfiltered results. They are tweaked to filter out the truth specifically so you don't see it.

The google crap was obscenely obvious on youtube searches a couple of months back. Any search for a creator usually always meant you'd get a litany of video about said creator (usually hit pieces). What's so hard about putting the actual channel up? You can't tell me an algorithm decides that rather than show the channel you're searching for, most people want to see hit pieces?
Same went for actual videos - and still does to some degree. As a test, I entered the actual title for a particular video (rather long) and it didn't show up, at all. At least, I gave up after 50 or so.

Yeah, yahoo did great by absorbing/squashing that one, didn't they? Back in the day before google, web crawler was another one. I think if people could go back in time 10-20 years (or 25) they'd be amazed at how different the overall experience was. They've algorithmed the very life out of the internet. Back then it was all the dark web.

Judging people by the decade they were born in is probably one of the worst ways to generalize But there is a pop culture representation put out there of each era. For example, if you ask about how people were in the 60's you would be told they were flower children at woodstock. Forget all the people that they opposed and who opposed them. Same with Millennials, there are tons of good ones. It is the culture that is put out that grates with many.

But, what if you're just trying to find information about a product or service you'd like to purchase?
If you're on the production side, you know damned well they fix the results in favor of large corporations.
For me, this has meant an unfair advertising environment for years... it's been hard for us, but we've muscled through, until our business was recently purchased by a large corporation.
Now, the Google system favors us, and will benefit us.
It's still unfair. And it's still wrong.

Order can be questioned but no bunk articles from random left wing sites.

We have used Duckduckgo for all our searches for two years now. It seems to be quite reliable and unbiased. A bonus is that you only see ads for your current, to which they are relevant. Other search engines show you ads from previous searches and/or web sites visited sometimes days earlier.

Google owns YouTube, and it demonstrates how stupid algorithms are. YouTube decided, based on comments of another poster in a video I saw, to start hitting me with clips of a movie I want NOTHING to do with. Each time it was offered, I clicked "not interested". YT was undeterred and kept offering it up, and even now, 18 months after this first happened, I will get offers to see clips. So
You would think the algorithms would take my thumbs down into account, but no. (But algorithms are God, and are never ever wrong.)
