Fake Impeachment Catch-Up Thread

Schiff has made up New Rules -- unilaterally -- that the only Republicans permitted to ask questions are Devin Nunes and a staffer who I think is named Castor. A source says Castor is a good lawyer, but people are telling me he's coming off as a real blank on TV.

And Schiff made up a rule saying that he would be one of the only twp people to question "Masha" Yavonovich, the former Obama-holdover ambassador to Ukraine fired by Trump.

Of course Trump is permitted to fire her; but the media and Democrats have decided -- as they last decided during the Bush presidency, when they declared it was an abuse of office for Bush to fire all of Clinton's US Attorneys -- that Republicans must always retain the political appointees that a Democrat president has hired.

When Nunes moved to yield his time to Ellie Stafanovic, Adam Schiff and his Ten Inch Neck started banging the gavel to shut her up.

Nunes questions why Yavonovich is even a witness -- she has absolutely no knowledge of these Impeachable Phone Calls we keep hearing about.

The only reason she was called by Democrats is so that she can Appeal to Women with her Sad Stories about how Sad she was when Trump fired her.

The appeal to women with your sad stories strategies did work -- one woman almost moved to tears by Yavonovich's sad story of being fired as political appointees routinely are was .... the supposedly "Fair and Balanced" FoxNews' liberal Chris Wallace.

Who was very, very "moved" by her Sad Stories of Woe.

Mark Meadows says to Chris Wallace, basically: Wipe your tears away, Susan, and try to butch up a bit.

Later, Trump tweeted out the reason why he had fired Yavonovich.

Adam Schiff claimed that this was "witness intimidation." Somehow.

Schiff read this tweet out to Yavonovich and asked her how it made her feel.

She said it made her feel sad.

And as we all know, making people feel sad is Witness Intimidation.

The media -- get this -- swiftly agreed that Trump tweeting out that Yavonovich was a bad ambassador was witness intimidation and should lead to a fresh impeachment charge.

And when I say "the media," I include.. Chris Wallace and Bret Baier. Who are pretty much just MSNBC-on-Fox now.

Mollie took the opportunity to disagree with the guy whose show she keeps afloat by blessing it with higher ratings:

Sean Davis notes that earlier, it was impeachable because Trump had fired Yavonovich without noting the cause for termination -- which, by the way, he's allowed to do; political appointees serve at the pleasure of the president -- and now they're claiming it's impeachable to explain the cause.

Bret Baier and Chris Wallace and most of the other Fox All-Stars are now, yet again, in agreement with Hillary Clinton:

Hillary Clinton does not believe in witness intimidation. She believes in witness elimination. Because Epstein did not kill himself.

Also, Nunes' opening statement is good, if you want to watch that:

Also amusing:

7 Making up new rules means that even Schiff realizes that trying to impeach over the butt-hurt of career bureaucrats at State who were either ignored or transferred isn't going to fly very far. Now it is an attempt to get through this day without utterly humiliating himself.

Especially being humiliated by a young Republican woman.

26 from the last thread, I feel like promoting a show I just watched because impeachment inquiries are dumb.

EPIX (e pics, get it?) has a series called Pennyworthy which is an alt-reality version of Alfred's story (butler from batman).

not to spoil too much but imagine an england (a decade or two?) after WWII ended in (they don't really go into details) a sort of stalemate and England's going through turmoil. So,the UK (or whatever is left) is kind of feralizing. There are public executions and humiliations like from medieval times. The outer burghs are really going cuckoo. again, this is not the main point of the story, it's just the background of how Alfred was as a chap in the 60's (after Burma where he saw a kid holding a tangerine the size of the ruby). He's basically a high end SAS guy just trying to make it the cartoon world he inhabits.

It's actually quite good and has been renewed.

Do you know how House committees work?

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Just All about the Billy Wilder movies at November 15, 2019 01:58 PM (q80AH)

53 Bad-mouthing an opponent: intimidation.
Defending yourself during an investigation: obstruction.
Firing your predecessor's people: abuse of office.
Firing your own people if they serve, but no longer "at your pleasure:" impeachable.

Let's look at these "new rules." This isn't all of the new rules, just the ones that came up in this impeachment farce. Looking at these rules, the person bound by them can do *nothing.* The option is to reject and break these rules, or else you're not a man and you're just a slave.

So, I have an honest question for the Democrats and deep staters who keep inventing these new rules. "If you make rules that must be broken and thus rulebreaking becomes the norm, what is to stop someone from reasonably justifying the rejection of *all* rules and shelling the capitol in response?"

I don't think it gets that far, but it would be an action that would be fairly easy to defend given how they're behaving with all the "rule" making they're doing.

Really, the high point of that great respect and non-intimidation came when Carville said something about "dragging a $100 bill through a trailer park" to see what you catch, or maybe it was when they all labelled Lewinsky a crazy, obsessed stalker who had the hots for Stephanopolous.

Unlikely with Mitch, and in this degraded environment and country, but the histrionically ludicrous farce the House is performing here should absolutely cause the Senate to not take up any impeachment in this case. It would be very damaging to what remains of the integrity and seriousness of the impeachment process in the constitution to actually consider such frivolous and empty political hackery in an actual trial.

But McConnell lacks any of the qualities that would produce an actually responsible or statesmanlike response, so there we are.

Not true. They have plenty of facts to talk about:
- their will to power
- their lust to maintain their sinecures
- their contempt for the rule of law
- their hatred of the American people - at least the ones inside the paranthesis
- their constant and herculean efforts to diminish the United States on the global stage
- their wish that we poor so that they can be rich (for they know not how to produce wealth of their own)

These are facts they don't want to talk about, though, so they put up a woman and make her talk about how bad she feels, and do things to make her feel worse while on TV, so that women will empathize with her and men will white-knight for her, and no one will think to ask about facts.

Contemptible, and I view the entire farce with contempt.

Loosely, it was for cooperating with foreigners during a campaign to handle illegal and foreign-sourced data.

It was another REO Speedwagon thing ("heard it from a friend who ..."), wherein, IIRC, the allegation was that Trump told a guy on his staff to find someone who could determine if the Wikileaks Clinton E-Mail dump would be helpful to the campaign, and that this eventually filtered to Stone who did the dirty work of getting the information. This is preposterous and the Wikileaks Clinton E-Mails were already public when they say it happened.

255 So some background on that Bush thing.

This was long ago, and wikipedia was kind of still new. Not sure of details, but I saw someone online reference it in an online discussion, and the article said that what Bush had done was "unprecedented". Well, I had an account name on wikipedia, and I had just read an op-ed in the WSJ saying that Clinton had done the same so not "unprecedented." I edited the article.

What followed was an edit dispute with some pencil neck at wikipedia where he was a mod for the article and kept deleting my edits. I complained and he just kept coming up with excuses.
First that there was no cite, so I gave one.
Then that it was an op-ed, and not "news" so not valid, so I carefully worded it to say that "so and so claims" instead of a pure fact. He deleted it because I reworded the claim to make it fit, so I adjusted.
This went on about 4 times, and finally he claimed that the WSJ was not an acceptable news source for wikipedia. Even though there was an op-ed written by a Clinton US attorney who was there and had direct knowledge.

No real point to this except this is how the left uses every tool they have to distort reality and create a narrative. (as always, sorry for the typos above.)

302 The Constitution explicitly assigns the president the power to sign or veto legislation, command the armed forces, ask for the written opinion of their Cabinet, convene or adjourn Congress, grant reprieves and pardons, and receive ambassadors. The president shall take care that the laws are faithfully executed and the president has the power to appoint and remove executive officers. The president may make treaties, which need to be ratified by two-thirds of the Senate, and is accorded those foreign-affairs functions not otherwise granted to Congress or shared with the Senate. Thus, the president can control the formation and communication of foreign policy and can direct the nation's diplomatic corps. The president may also appoint Article III judges and some officers with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate. In the condition of a Senate recess, the president may make a temporary appointment.

California is full of "sanctuary cities" and is itself a "sanctuary state" and makes people driving there go through some weird variant of customs to keep out foreign produce, likely in violation of numerous federal standards or laws.

They're already in rebellion. Does this count as another mark? Maybe not - impeachment is the house's prerogative and they handed it to the Californians. But it doesn't match matter because they've been running an outright insurrection for a while now.

Q: But you do believe the potential existed?

"Yes"

Q: When you say you don't know of an actual conflict, you are not saying that there wasn't one are you. Just that you have no direct knowledge of it?

Correct

Q: But there may have been actual conflicts that you are unaware of.

"Maybe"

And now you have your reasoning for wanting to question Hunter.

He's not going to risk that by going against them with his "reporting."

445 To function as a Constitutional Republic you need a written constitution, and a solid majority of your society that understands and shares the values in that constitution.

In our case, we have a brilliant founding document and a society that has been dumbed down and diluted by non-Americans (in an historical/cultural/political value sense) to the point that far less than half its members understand and have affinitiy for the values of those documents.

As such, when presented with something that can't easily be categorized (a show impeachment trial, lacking fundamental fairness, against our legal traditions and contrary to the letter and spirit of separation of powers) the majority of the public scratches its collective ass and believes what the MSM tell them to believe.

Why is this absurdity going on, and continuing down the track?

Trump has the ability to upend the very life fortunes and lifestyles of these Deep State clowns and jesters.

The Democrat Party is the official party of the Deep State, however, many Republicans are happy to play their designated part in the sham, the Loser, aka, the Washington Generals to the Harlem Globetrotters.

The Repubs have always played their part as the gracious and classy loser. Trump is forcing them to use their spines, and many also panic.

The Dems and the #Nevers are trying to do anything they can to stop him, because he requires competency in a job, and since they have never had to show competency in their job, they are panicking like rabbits caught in an open field.

With this Shampeachment, our country is being dragged into the absurd. This is actually the Democrat plan. They will do anything to keep their wealth and power, no matter how stupid and embarrassing.

68 I'm going to play the girl card.

I am ashamed, as a woman, that people believe that women only care about teh feelz and all that is important to us is our feelz and that we are incapable of being held to any standard of performance at all due to our feelz.

It's humiliating to know that so many people see oh hey you are female that means you emote, you don't think.

I have always found it a bit insulting that there is an entire political party that thinks that the only thing women care about are their vaginas and the ability to murder their children in the womb. That you can't care about the economy or the border, or taxes. It's all about only your vagina.

And just as insulting is that there apparently far too many women that prove them right.

547 So, in a hearing designed to make Trump looking like a brute for firing a woman (who just so happened to be fiercely partisan and employed at the pleasure of the President), Schiff tells a fellow congressman (who happens to be a woman simply doing her job) that she just needs to essentially shut up and let the men talk.

And this is supposed to reflect badly on Trump? I think Wile E. Shiffty picked up the shotgun with the barrel on backwards. Again.

Posted by: red speck at November 15, 2019 03:20 PM (nrC0n)

548 Somebody should quote Clint Eastwood in The Enforcer Dirty Harry movie, when they forced him to have a woman (Tyne Daly) partner: If you want to play lumberjack, you need to be able to hold your end of the log. Liberal woman want to be treated the same as men...until they don't.

Posted by: Garth Hudson at November 15, 2019 03:38 PM (ffwQz)

549 So why did Nunes and the rest of the Republicans allow her to be refused??? She should speech anyway. And if Schiff tries to cut off her microphone, then she and Nunes and other Republicans just walk up to Schiff's location and take over HIS microphone. And just DARE him or anyone else to physically assault them.

The Pubbies lose because they do not have the guts to actually take the fight to the enemy.
