Sad Losers Grow Fu Manchu Mustaches to Emulate Their New Hero, Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew

Gardner Minshew is a rookie pressed into sudden service. He's doing well, giving the team some hope.

Minshew sports a Fu Manchu, seventies-porn-actor style mustache.

To emulate their new hero, legions of incel manbabies are also sporting Fu Manchu mustaches, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The team is feeding the mania. The Jaguars began offering what it dubs the "Minshew Mini Pack," which includes tickets to the team's next two home games, a bandanna, fake mustache and the chance to take a picture on the field with the gear.

Can't wait to hear the names of some of the piss-pants jock-sniffing toddlermen growing a mustache to look like another dude.

Amy Ekdahl remembers exactly how she learned that her husband had joined the craze, and she wasn't happy about it.

Ekdahl? That name sounds familiar.

Must be someone else.

John Ekdahl has had a thick beard for as long as they've been together.

John Ekdahl? Eh, must be another guy named John Ekdahl. There's no reason to think that Ekdahl roots for the Jaguars.

Except for living in Florida. And constantly tweeting about the Jaguars.

And showing a love for Garnder Minshew that clearly crosses from homoerotic to just plain ol' gay.

He decided to get rid of all of it--except the mustache--after Mr. Minshew led Jacksonville to a win over the Tennessee Titans. He didn't consult his wife.

Ms. Ekdahl learned about it when she checked her phone and saw he had sent her a picture. "My heart dropped," she recalls. "I was enraged all day."

Her friends at work expressed similar shock and asked her how old her husband is. "Too old to be doing this," she told them.

Mr. Ekdahl, though, has no plans to shave it.

Anyway, so just kidding with the incel manbaby stuff. That actually is the John Ekdahl, former coblogger.

It's a cute story, but... it's very revealing. Not about a minor trend in facial hair. But about how the media gets its stories.

The reporter saw people tweeting about the Fu Minshew mustache and started typing up a, well, let's call it a "news story." Where did they get Ekdahl's name from? They saw him tweeting about his Fu Minshew on Twitter.

The media is just 90% about taking tweets and hashtags and typing them into stories and calling it brave reporting and truth firefighting.

The other 10% is typing up evidence-free conspiracy theories peddled to them by Adam Schiff.

Emily Jashinksy just wrote about that.

Political Twitter is easily distracted by stories with a dangerously unbalanced ratio of news value to entertainment value, even more so than the cable networks. (I'm not excluding myself from this.) Because the conversation is driven by coastal journalists who use our accounts for social and professional purposes, there's a premium on media gossip, insular Beltway chatter, and amusing viral content....

The problem is that news outlets also use Twitter as an assignment editor, which has the effect of artificially inflating the importance of such stories--in newsrooms, boardrooms, and living rooms. Tweets have consequences, even the silly ones. That’s well-worth considering before getting sucked into the largely irrelevant Twitter pile-on of the moment.

That's via Steven Green at Instapundit, who cites this tweet from Salena Zito, pointing out that for many, real life is now nothing more than a series of tweets and notifications:

On That Point: Ironically enough -- or perhaps inevitably enough -- the media had previously seized on a John Ekdahl tweet to fabricate a "TWITTER OUTRAGED!" non-story "story."

Somewhat related: The Ohio State marching band celebrated Neil Armstrong Day with a routine about the moon landing.

It's not a real Fu Manchu, anyway. It's IIRC basically what Hulk Hogan had, which is a beardstache shaved a certain way.

A "real" Fu Manchu requires a handlebar-length moustache, only vertical, not horizontal. IMO, anyway.

95 Now that I'm an old person on Medicare, I'm signing up for all the other bits of insurance that Medicare does not cover.

I've noticed that all these little insurance companies have websites that are coded by retards. They seem to make them so difficult to use that your average oldster will be discouraged and resort to using the phone (yeccchh.)

I just clicked on the "Make A Payment" button of my prescription drug plan, and got a Server Error 303. You would think that the one single most important part of the website (for them) would be getting paid.

I logged out, waited a while, logged in, and clicked it again. Now it goes to a page that does not load in a finite period of time.

I went to the "Contact Us" online form to tell them they aren't getting paid. Had to fill out a great big form that should have been already filled in with all my member info, which they already have. The editing on the fields was coded by the infant children of retards. I sent it, but with little hope.

I suppose they paid the Retard Web Company millions of dollars to build this site, which should be a simple copy of the same standard cookie cutter template that thousands of other companies use, and should have been polished and perfected by 2003.

In hindsight, I was a fool. Her insistence that the beard be grown back meant I had leverage. I could have insisted on something in return. But I was whipped, it never entered my mind.

There's still some reporting going on. Not much, some.

Guy named Brandon Darby actually travels into Mexico, spends serious time with migrants, talks to local Mexican officials, gets basic facts on the situation, generally avoids lectures or policy pushing. Another guy, forget his name at the moment, has done the same, going further, down even to Panama, and learned from our intel and LE folks about national security aspects of the migrant hordes.

All too rare now, but real reporting still exists. Obviously little of it reaches the public, which is pretty much on its own now.

Teams following the new stat stuff won't bunt and don't believe in stealing or taking extra bases. Its about swinging up as hard as possible and hoping for a home run. Striking out is fine, its one of the "True outcomes." Astros don't play that.

Here's a recap of the Friday night Yanks-Twins game on MLB network: lingering close-up of guy in the crowd, lingering close-up of guy in the dugout, lingering close-up of pitcher, lingering close-up of batter, lingering close-up of base runner... repeat 75-100 times. Maybe you'll see a shot of the ball skipping through the infield, inadvertently showing two or more players in a wider angle... and it'll look like baseball for a second. Maybe.

Posted by: Duncanthrax at October 07, 2019 02:55 PM (DMUuz)

Uh huh. There are not two Ohio State Universities. What she is referring to is Ohio University in Athens Ohio, a very liberal arts school, which has been a major party school since I can remember. Just this past week, the OU administration suspended ALL fraternities on campus due to rampant dangerous hazing they were all engaged in. Evidence the party-on status has continued apparently, which is why your bartendress is likely a graduate from OU , and is working in a place just like the place she spent the majority of her time while in college.

You cannot hardly say Ohio State University without adding The in front of Ohio. That said, trying to trade mark it was stupid, my opinion as an alum.

Imagine Graham might realize his move to punish Turkey with sanctions for any attack on the Kurds actually supports Trump's announced warning to the Turks, but his "bipartisan" partner Chris probably thinks of it as noble support to the Kurds - or Peter Galbraith just told him to think that and that was enough.

336 One year Yaz was not hitting very well so he donned the black gloves, the eyeblack and stated if I'm going to hit .250 this year it's going to be a hard .250.

Yaz was the most adjusting batter in baseball history. He didn't have the build to be a monster hitter, so he adjusted constantly so that he would always be able to compete. Gave him a really long, great career.

Rob Deer was the king of all or nothing home runs though. Lifetime batting: .220, led the league in strikeouts 4 times, but when he connected it was usually out of the park.

337 The problem with the statcast stuff is there's no context. Is a fielding play that had a 7% probability an amazing catch? Dunno, the stats only go back to like 2013. Stats make sense because of the context - we know 60 HRs is impressive because it's been done so rarely in a 120 year time frame.

There is also Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, (the Bobcats). Not to be confused with Ohio State.

The signs on entering the campus say The Ohio State University. It took self introductions of NFL players to get the emphasis of "THE" tacked onto it.
There is also another OSU (of course) which is Oklahoma State University. I don't know whether it is prefixed with a THE.

I never watched it, but I remember that one season ended with Daniels' character doing something that put him in hugely hot water. He called the Tea Party the American Taliban.

This was months after the Kos guy had published a book with that title.

I think the show was probably really stupid.

Spent my childhood trying to emulate Yaz's stance (and Dick McAuliffe of the Tigers, who had the wierdest stance ever).

415 The media is just 90% about taking tweets and hashtags and typing them into stories and calling it brave reporting and truth firefighting.

back when I was a little DanTot I had an assistant editor of the Houston Chronicle for a next door neighbor. I mowed his yard and even threw that paper as a kid.

That guy eventually retired as the editor and I was able to revive the relationship some decades later. As we discussed journalism over a nice meal (we both knew well we were politically opposite) he lamented the state of newspapers. He related how every section editor reviewed every section front page prior to publication. They researched, corrected, rewrote and basically honed each others work.

According to him now its just kids reacting to social media, putting together image montages and jumping to the next outrage.

Jack Loftis died a couple of years ago but that guy was font of information with a very sharp mind right up to his demise. His stories rivaled my father in law's and I regret I never got them in the same room.

423 Not clear at all that removing very small American presence in NE Syria is "foolish". It's an extremely difficult situation where our leverage and options are poor compared to most of our operations. Appealing medium-term strategies involving our presence have yet to be offered, and our key regional objective - containing and weakening Iran - will not clearly be much affected either way [Damascus proxy was already there, and will not be affected by our operations].

And everyone's assuming just about everything while knowing little, while ignoring much of what Trump has actually said.

Let's see what develops between WH and Ankara, it may well not be any of the lurid nightmares now being marketed.

446 Yeah, no NFL for me either. It wasn't a big deal as I have never been much of a football fan. But I gave up anything from Levi Strauss decades ago over their 2A stance. Wal-Mart will be harder to completely avoid as they are so ubiquitous and there are some times and places where a full on boycott is just un-doable.

I grew my lame version of a porn-star 'stache a couple of years ago (S-i-L was deployed and his unit all grew them so I grew mine to support them). Mrs. Action Jackson hated it, so when S-i-L came home, the 'stache came off.
