THE QUOTES OF THE DAY

Quote I

"I’m telling you right now he should have walked off that set. Chuck Todd is a disgrace to human kind. How this guy pretends still to be a journalist to this day an impairment. Calling out this network. Hey, guys, I usually don’t do props here. Article let me read you the headline here. Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire. That says Politico. That doesn’t say Fox News. What’s the date on this? January of 2017. Chuck Todd needs to resign in absolute disgrace. He should issue a full-throated apology to Ron Johnson and no credible Republican should appear on that network again.” Dan Bongino

Quote II

“While Daryl has made it clear that his tweet does not represent the Rockets or the NBA, the values of the support individuals’ educating themselves and sharing their views on matters important to them,. We have great respect for the history and culture of China and hope that sports and the NBA can be used as a unifying force to bridge cultural divides and bring people together.” The NBA

Quote III

"We need to move away from coal, oil, and gas and phase out nuclear," Castro said. "Nuclear is definitely preferable when it comes to carbon emissions versus those other three and the way that I think about it is, sort of the worst-first approach to working on immediately getting the worst of the types of energy that produces carbon emissions out first." Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro

Quote IV

Mitt Romney is a quisling hiding behind a phony shield of virtue, and if the rest of the Republican Party ever decide to follow his lead again, the Party will be doomed for a generation.

The grassroots will never support a quisling.John Nolte

Former TX Rep. Bobbi Francis O'Rourke thinks that illegal immigrants do not pose any danger to Americans.

The symbol of the Democratic Party is a jackass. And this jackass, Robert Francis O'Rourke doesn't care if another 3,000 Americans are killed. 3 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were here illegally.

The stats show that this unthinking pathetic demagogue is wrong.

Non-citizens accounted for 24 percent of all federal drug arrests, 25 percent of all federal property arrests, and 28 percent of all federal fraud arrests.

In 2018, a quarter of all federal drug arrests took place in the five judicial districts along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Politicians who declare their jurisdictions to be sanctuaries for illegal immigrants who commit crimes are needlessly endangering their law-abiding citizens.

Not only is O'Rourke wrong he is dead wrong. How many more Americans have to die before the blood on his hands and others of his ilk don't wash off?

President Trump once again makes the left go apoplectic. Former Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese to be given the Medal of Freedom.

President Trump will present the Medal of Freedom to former Attorney General Edwin Meese, the White House announced Monday.

The president will honor Meese on Tuesday during a ceremony at the White House. Meese, 87, served as attorney general during the Reagan administration and has been a member of multiple conservative think tanks, including The Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society.

California, once known as the Land of Milk & Honey is now known as The Land of Shitty Cities.

Of the 50 most “miserable” cities in the United States, a whopping 20 percent of them reside in America’s most radically left-wing state, California, according to analysis by Business Insider.

“We’ve identified the 50 most miserable cities in the US, using census data from 1,000 cities, taking into consideration population change … the percentage of people working, median household incomes, the percentage of people without healthcare, median commute times, and the number of people living in poverty,” the outlet revealed late last month.

The states with the most miserable cities were the Democrat state of California with 10 cities, the Democrat state of New Jersey with nine cities and the swing state of Florida with six cities.

Have you seen the television advertising for cars with automatic braking? Well, that guy on the commercial was lucky. Many test dummies aren't.

High-tech safety features are almost ubiquitous in new cars, but new research shows that when it's most needed, the technology might not do much to save lives.

In tests by the American Automobile Association (AAA), automatic braking only prevented a collision with an adult less than half of the time. For children, a collision was only avoided 11% of the time at 20 miles per hour.

As the march for electric cars continues, General Motors workers are fighting for their careers.

From the outside looking in, the talks between the United Auto Workers’ (UAW) striking members and the management of General Motors look like normal disagreements over pay. In reality, they’re really about the future of cars in the U.S.

UAW members’ anxieties and uncertainties are actually shared by GM GM, -0.20% and most other automakers, which know that it’s no longer a question of when internal combustion engine cars will be replaced by electric vehicles, but how quickly the changeover will take place.

The shift to electric means a fundamental transformation of what workers will do and how many are needed to do it.

The EU, should change its name to the International Nanny State.

The European Union’s top court ruled on Thursday that its member states can order Facebook to remove ‘illegal’ or ‘defamatory’ posts and comments worldwide. Any content found objectionable by a national court belonging to the 28-member bloc can be deleted from the world’s largest social network, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in Luxembourg said.

The measure will not be restricted to specific statements deemed undesirable by a European court but will also apply to similar content elsewhere on Facebook. The social media platform will be obliged to “remove identical and, in certain circumstances, equivalent comments previously declared to be illegal,” the ECJ said in a statement. “In addition, EU law does not preclude such an injunction from producing effects worldwide, within the framework of the relevant international law,” the court added.

The court’s judgement was in response to the case filed by Austria’s Green Party politician Eva Glawischnig-Piesczek, after she was called a ‘lousy traitor’ and a member of a ‘fascist party’ in response to her demands for welfare payments to asylum seekers, Austrian public broadcaster ORF reported. Glawischnig-Piesczek was offended by these and similar comments attacking her views on immigration and sought legal recourse after Facebook initially refused to delete them.

So much for American blood and treasure used in WWII.

What is that shit on the radio? They sure don't make music like they use to. Why is that?

It turns out that my father isn’t alone. As I’ve grown older, I’ll often hear people my age say things like “they just don’t make good music like they used to.”

Why does this happen?

Luckily, my background as a psychologist has given me some insights into this puzzle.

We know that musical tastes begin to crystallize as early as age 13 or 14. By the time we’re in our early 20s, these tastes get locked into place pretty firmly.

Puppies and loaded guns, never good but tonight's Genius Award Winner.

An Oklahoma woman underwent surgery after a dog shot her in the thigh in a pickup truck stopped at a railroad crossing.

The .22-caliber gun went off Thursday afternoon in Enid, Okla., when Molly, a yellow Labrador retriever puppy, jumped onto a back seat console, spooked by the passing train, according to news reports.

A quadriplegic man is able to walk. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

A quadriplegic has been able to walk and use his arms again after being fitted with a robotic skeleton controlled by his mind.

The 30-year-old, named only as Thibault, was paralysed from the neck down in 2015 after falling 50 feet (15m) from a nightclub roof.

But he has been able to move for the first time since his horrific injury through using the pioneering suit, following months of getting to grips with it.

13 Thanks, MisHum, for another jam-packed ONT!!

MIL Update: Surgery this afternoon was successful (as far as it goes). Repaired torn aorta* and temp pins in one ankle. Abdomen/bowel issue seems to be resolved. Fixed bleeder in one leg.

Still on tap for tomorrow/Wednesday: fractured ribs, other ankle (which is a mess) and confirm abdomen/bowel okay.

Internal injuries turned out to be far more extensive than we'd thought earlier this AM, so watching all of these.

*Surgeon told us that most aorta tears are immediately fatal, so literal bullet dodged.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for the Horde prayers - these have meant a LOT to both me and mrs ibguy.

MIL (Marilyn) far from out of the woods, but still with us (at 86 a miracle by itself).

Her boyfriend was in the passenger seat, and he's in bad shape as well: broken hip, back and wrist, and internal bleeding. So prayers appreciated for Tom, too.

96 California, once known as the Land of Milk & Honey is now known as The Land of Shitty Cities.

Life in the Third World:

PG&E announced Monday morning it is watching weather conditions in order to determine if power needs to be turned off in Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Mariposa, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Tehama, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba counties.

That's more than ten million people.

Most of Northern California's electrical system will probably be shut down because of 45 mile an hour winds. That's it. Napa may be out of power for five days.

So, you may think of installing a natural gas backup generator for next year, but as the San Francisco Chronicle points out, it's California - just imagine the permitting fees for doing such a thing.

And, of course, the environmentalists want to electrify everything - so good luck having an electric car when the power goes out for days. (Yeah, it's hard to refuel a gasoline-powered car without electric pumps, but you still have more flexibility.)

The future awaits!

160 I don't understand the pressure for electric vehicles. Is it to combat "global warming?" If so, where do these geniuses plan on getting the requisite electricity?

The plan is to "electrify everything" - make every building in the United States all-electric, and make every vehicle in the United States electric. This will more than double current United States electrical usage.

Meanwhile, we are simultaneously going to close all fossil-fueled electrical plants and all nuclear plants.

And we have to do this quickly - this isn't intended to be a fifty-year phase in.

This is why the Green New Deal is characterized as the "equivalent of war" - you're going to need to need a sizable military to suppress the revolts as US living standards collapse.

Theoretically, electric cars can be MUCH cleaner for the environment.
The cleaner the source of electricity, the cleaner the car.
What the fucking enviro-idiots don't understand is that starting with clean nuclear would make cars nearly zero footprint carbon emissions - for operations.. not for manufacturing, which has no less carbon footprint than fossil fuel cars.
I'm fine with a move to electric cars.. less shit in the air! But let's not live in a world of denial.. every alternative has its footprint.

If you're referring to having voted for Romney in the general election, then I agree 100% -- who else were we going to vote for if we didn't want 4 more years of Obama? If you're referring to the primaries, that might be a different story.

The primaries are the time for "sending a message" to the party regarding what kind of candidate you really want. In the general, you don't have that luxury if you really don't want the other guy to win.

Then again, all of this hand wringing is pretty much moot if you live in a deep blue state like mine (IL) whose electoral votes are going to the Dimocrat no matter what you do. Any vote I cast for a non-Dem POTUS candidate ultimately has about as much electoral impact as spitting into a Category 5 hurricane.......

A major problem with 1990s music is/was the obsession with grunge and what I would call 'ugly' music, including gangsta rap. Yes they were interesting new genres, but media became so utterly packed with them everywhere, it ended up driving people like you and me away from the radio after some time.
Posted by: qdpsteve at October 07, 2019 10:39 PM (L2ZTs)

--------

The '90s was a weird time for music. And, I do like some gangsta rap. Not a lot, but some.

In any event, it was the time when the music industry was the most flush with it had ever been (and that's saying something), and there was the massive but short-lived outlet of MTV for the music videos.

So there was just an enormous cash-machine, and studios would give any Tom, Dick or Harry a shot, because "WTF, we can afford it!"

You'd at least get a music video, a single, and maybe even an album, if you just showed up with a reasonably-produced demo.

This meant enormous amounts of radio and TV "buzzworthy" dross. But it also meant a lot of gems that turned up in the rough.

That's true of any era, but it was just magnified in the 90s. More crap, and more good stuff, too.

As opposed to now, when studios are on the ropes, and only willing to produce reliable old pop. Less weird/total garbage, and WAY less good/interesting stuff (read: none).

This is what annoys me. They keep acting like this is super new cutting edge high sci fi tech and its like 100 years old. Electric cars are not brand new and exciting, they are old and failed. Steam cars are more reliable and powerful.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 07, 2019 10:57 PM (KZzsI)

310 That marketwatch article and every other "oh electric cars are going to replace internal combustion" dream is stupid. They completely do not understand physics. Which isn't surprising, since we are talking about emotion leftists that can't think.

A car with a 15 gallon tank has 550,000 watt-hours of energy in the tank. That energy can be replaced in about 5 minutes at a cost of around $45. This is just shy of 2 million BTU.

Physics does not allow the replenishment of that much energy through battery recharge in that time frame. The electric snobs want to compare electric to gasoline, and pick an unfair comparison. Starting from full power, yes electric has plenty of advantages and can even produce faster cars. But it all falls apart once you get to refueling.

Same logic is why we still have diesel trains out west. The electrification of the long haul western tracks doesn't make economic sense, even though electric trains are faster.

314 For the ladies thinking about getting an AR, do it. They can be very affordable, the rear stock is adjustable, and the recoil is light. Quality ammo is cheap. Also, they are easy to clean and maintain. They really are versatile and capable of minute of bad guy at 100 yards or precise target work at several hundred yards. And this is coming from a guy who likes old military surplus rifles and muzzleloaders. Others in the Horde know more about them than I do. But I am impressed.

318 In any event, it was the time when the music industry was the most flush with it had ever been (and that's saying something), and there was the massive but short-lived outlet of MTV for the music videos.

So there was just an enormous cash-machine, and studios would give any Tom, Dick or Harry a shot, because "WTF, we can afford it!"

There were a couple of labels in the 80s that would take a chance on anything and see if it worked, and some amazing, fascinating stuff came out of that. Never, EVER see that any more.

Zappa was right, those old Jewish guys who hated the music but were willing to give anything a chance were better than the young hipsters who thought they knew the all of cool and music.

Examine Homestead and South Miami/Dade County after Hurricane Andrew 1992. Homestead AFB and surrounding area literally scrubed down to the coral/bedrock. I lived it.

Looting started DURING the storm, as did the murdering.

Hundreds dead mostly from opportunistic score setting and some stranger danger murder, hundreds more missing some found years later under brush piles, in abandoned boats or decorating beaches.

Gangs roving, looting, many many shot/shot at by homeowners who formed area militias. Military jumped by gangs and losing unloaded weapons. Military then getting ammo and in one famous case lit up an entire car load of gangers trying to bust a road block thinking they had no ammo.

Some areas were MONTHS without power and water and were abandoned. May residential areas WEEKS down. the FB permanently abandoned.

What order that was maintained was by far due to armed civilians banding together.

History. What's it good for.

That's because they thought that Moore's Law applied to batteries - high tech, and all that.

Electrochemistry doesn't work like that.

There's a reason why the biggest proponents of electrical cars live in warm places. In any place with a real winter, you're suddenly faced with the need to turn off your heater to conserve range, given how quickly batteries discharge in cold temperatures.

One of the things I find amusing about that commie Matt Damon flick The Martian, when he's trying to figure out the actual range of the rover vehicle, he records himself talking about this very issue, as he's freezing his balls off. He solves it by digging up the big chunk of plutonium that they buried after landing, and tossing it into the cab of the vehicle, crossing his fingers that he doesn't breach the container and die horribly from radiation sickness.

I voted for Romney and sent money to his campaign. I didn't like him but he wasn't Obama. I realized in retrospect that he was a POS and that his campaign seemed strangely uninterested in actually winning -- they were more interested in stabbing Sarah Palin, and by extension us, in the back.

Later I voted for Trump, who I considered to be more or less a cartoon character, because he wasn't Hillary. He has been brilliant, exceeding anything I could have expected.

Sometimes it works out for the best. After 2008 and 2012, I was reluctant to be optimistic about anything, ever again.

452 384 A good question is, if there were failure of basic

services, like electrical power, water, and the general infrastructure
that gets the food in and the trash and sewage out, how long would take
your average American city to go full free-fire zone.

460 >> Already the chip makers were moving to multicore CPUs in the late 2000s.

They ran into a clock frequency wall, too. 5GHz was about the limit.

I was an early "enthusiast" with multiple CPUs when I got on the NT bandwagon. I had a dual Pentium board, a Tyan Tomcat III. Then I moved to an ABIT VP-6 with twin PIIIs.

Intel tried to killed that, deciding that multiple CPUs should be expensive server class equipment, so they started doing things to disable it for boards like the VP6.

And then they hit the frequency wall, and had to go the multi-CPU route to keep perfomance increasing as expected.

BREAKING: Hillary Clinton 'thinking about' running for President in 2020, according to multiple sources

462 Hillary is helping Warren the way Paulie helped the restaurant owner in Goodfellahs.

"Also, Paulie could do anything. Especially run up bills on the joint's credit. And why not? Nobody's gonna pay for it anyway. And as soon as the deliveries are made in the front door, you move the stuff out the back and sell it at a discount. You take a two hundred dollar case of booze and you sell it for a hundred. It doesn't matter. It's all profit.

And then finally, when there's nothing left, when you can't borrow another buck from the bank or buy another case of booze, you bust the joint out. You light a match."

I've still got that Tyan board and the ABIT VP6 here buried somewhere. Dual socket boards, as multi-CPU used to be.

IIRC, what Intel did to try to kill consumer class dual socket boards was make the "glue" harder to do. Again, from memory, the original chips were very easy to parallel. They disabled some of that, requiring the chipset to have to do more. Again, IIRC.

He'd tell these women over and over again: "I became a vegetarian in college, and it's the worst health mistake I ever made. You need to eat meat, and all I can do until you do is help you mitigate your nutritional deficiencies."

506 >>Intel must have the best antitrust lawyers in the universe, considering all the crap they've done over the years.

Indeed. They've done a lot of crap, indeed. One that sticks in my craw is their whiz-bang optimizing compilers (C/C++ and Fortran).

These things generate highly optimized code for their chips, knowing the microarchitecture and all that. (Rule, MS knows the OS, Intel knows the chips).

It would do shit like generate dispatch tables to run a particular code sequence for different CPU models. Made the executables bigger,of course.

Then they found out something. If that dispatch code detected and AMD CPU, then it would choose the *slowest* possible branch, even though the AMD chip was capable of running the faster branches.

Intel denied it at first, but finally had to admit it after lawsuits. All they were forced to do was disclose it, and warn the buyer that the compiler wouldn't optimize for AMD chips.

It's obvious the Democrats have zero strategy, other than #OMB, destroy Trump at any cost. None.

Compare with the party circa 2004 or so, when the Democrats still believed in America. They talked like Americans, with a common history and shared traditional values. Now, they race to out-Communize each other. It is truly amazing to observe.

There are some that still believe the party will go back to the center, but they also are holding out for the return of 25 cent candy bars. Probably close to half of Democrats still believe their party hasn't been taken over by Soros-funded Globalists, victimologists, and big-gov't types that care nothing about their interests.

541 512 Indeed. They've done a lot of crap, indeed.

I recall that Intel once came out with a new chip. The "premium", high-priced chip was the new chip. The "regular", lower-priced chip was created by taking a new high-priced chip, and crippling it.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at October 08, 2019 12:01 AM (I2/tG)

486SX and DX, IIRC. The reality is that chip processes have testing success metrics and yields based on those metrics, which, if a portion fails higher stress metrics, that portion can be sold as lower performance chips.

No idea if that crippling notion is just urban legend based on ignorance or if they actually disabled otherwise working portions of chips to conform to market demand.

546 Iran has been at war with us since '79. Intermittently, we have returned the favor.

"Going to war" with Iran is a bizarre fake reality concept, but those are common nowadays, and obsessively clung to by many, including here.

Retaliating for the oil facility attacks would have been just fine. We could "plink" the top items off our priority target list, at our leisure. Probably the better option.

Iran would have zero recourse they don't have or haven't used already. Not a thing would change with the "politics" in the region - the enemies of Persia would be fine with it [most of the region], the Iranian people, who routinely mock their regime's foreign adventures, would be unmoved.

But we chose not to. Fine, whatever - also changes nothing. Presumably the entire reason was that our economic and intel warfare against Iran is advancing nicely, so, just ignore it all and persist.

But we're at war with Iran, they're at war with us [1OO times as much].

Re 486SX. Previous to the 486, the main CPUs did not have a floating point unit, the "x87". You needed a separate coprocessor for that. An 8086, to an 8087, a 286 took a 287,and a 386 a 387.

With the 486, they moved the floating point onto the main CPU.

They decided to market some lower cost 486s as a 486SX, which had the FPU disabled. They then made some boards with a "coprocessor" socket for a "487".

The 487 was just another 486 without the FPU disabled. It simply disabled the other CPU and took over.

Now, the "SX" and "DX" thing came from the previous 386 line. The original 386, which became the DX, had a 32-bit data bus. The 386SX had a 16-bit data bus allowing for cheaper boards. A 32-bit bus access thus required two 16-bit bus cycles.

The SX as used with the 486 had nothing to do with that, but marketing thought it would go over well, assuming it as somehow like the 386SX vs DX.

AMD has done the disabling thing too. Many of the old Athlon and Phenom chips had "extra cores" and extra cache memory that was disabled.

In some cases, it was due to failing the quality tests, but in others it was just due to marketing.

Some hardware hackers discovered how to re-enable this stuff, and some mobo people put it in the BIOS. In some cases, the extra stuff would work just fine, and in other cases, it would fail and lock up, requiring CMOS reset.

I recommend it highly, though you can skip the long intro, which lasts twenty or so minutes. The meat of it is a rundown of the timeline of events in the Ukraine over the last five years or so, with the people involved and the roles they played.

He says, though I haven't verified, that all the events he describes are documented, and that the docs are available at glennbeck.com. He invites all to "do your own homework," as he likes to say. He also issues a blanket invitation to anyone who wishes to come on his show and contest or debunk his presentation.

It's an impressive piece of work by all involved.

(which is still used today by a lot of people). The most accurate pattern I ever shot was with one of those 03-A3 Springfields. I shot a 3 shot pattern at 100 yards that would fit is a circle about 1/4" diameter.

It was officially adopted as a United States military bolt-action rifle on June 19, 1903, and saw service in World War I (per Wiki). The US entered WW I in 1917, so maybe the movie was more accurate than I thought.

I still have to remind myself that most folk are not like the Morons.

From current events to ancient history, while wandering through the birth of our nation, most folk do not have a mental awareness of our nations Justice System, or their of our history from the birth of the nation to today's current events.

We need to take the time to interact, and educate on an individual basis.

Yesterday I wound up having an unplanned thirty minute discussion on the birth of both Communist Red China, and the nation of Taiwan.

The person I was speaking with had virtually no awareness of their history.

So was unable to see current events against the backdrop of historical events.

Windows were left open. Overnight low was 57. Beautiful.

As has been said ad nauseum, this is the last so-called Inspector General report, if it drops and there aren't simultaneous indictments then there never will be.

The following reports have been dropped with no resulting indictments as the DOJ declined to indict..

McCabe report: 0Strozk report: 0Comey report:0FISA report: TBD

This thing has been investigated to death and for too long, which was part of the plan, frustration through investigation.

And it is also very apparent that all of the "investigations" were conducted in complete isolation and not as a conspiracy.

Now having said that, I am heartened by the perturbations that are emanating from the usual suspects, they are squawking very loudly, which could mean something or it could mean nothing other than they simply don't like Durham hauling them in for questioning.
If the FISA report is dropping on Friday and Brennan is squwaking about being "interviewed" by Durham then that means that the report referred people for indictments or detailed crimes that need to be investigated and that's what has team traitor running scared.

As they say we shall see.

Let's pray justice prevails.

Which tells you we should be super strict on who we let in and slow the flow on legal immigration, too.

Sorry, fix your own country.

730 There will be little coverage of the now record-breaking serial killer because he's black. Most coverage will not show his picture for that reason.

If all of the players were acting under the direction of the WH, it seems they'd have an out. Maybe that's why the DoJ decided not to prosecute.

The media certainly don't care.

The disparity of the medias treatment of Republicans is stark.

If the media wants to get you they will assign whole teams of reporters to get you.
Remember, some whackadoodle "reporter" bought the house next door to Sarah Palin so that they could do their dirty work to the point of literally going through her garbage.

I subscribe to WT Sherman's maxim of how you should look at and deal with the media.

I use TXU and do monthly averaging. Keeps my bill around $255 - $270 all year long.

True, I don't get a $60 bill in October or November, but I don't get a $500 bill in July and August.
