THE QUOTES OF THE DAY

Quote I

"Most immigrants are not criminals, but when the immigrant population is overrepresented in almost every crime category, then there is a problem that we must dare to talk about." Jon Helgheim, immigration policy spokesman for the Norwegian party Fremskrittspartiet (FrP).

Quote II

I had a terrible dream.

I dreamed that I was a male “conservative thought leader.”

I grifted.

I lost like a gentleman.

I was a sissy.

No woman wanted me.

I wrote for the Weekly Standard.

Luckily, when I woke up and I checked, my testicles were still there.

Ahoy. Kurt Schlichter

Quote III

‘I think American citizens should be asking Mitch McConnell to exercise his prerogatives as majority leader and change the rules’ Tom Fitton

Quote IV

"I filed this case because I believe it's very important that people understand that sanctity of marriage is important. Especially in this day and age when people question everyone's morals, people questions everyone's liability of a person and the state-backed me up on it,Kevin Howard.

If you enjoy pot, you may consider relocating to Gwinnett, GA.

A video of a Gwinnett County police officer handing back marijuana to a driver during a traffic stop has gone viral.

The video, which has more than 30,000 views on Facebook, shows the officer handing back the bag and saying, “You are more than welcome to have it back.”

Gwinnett announced in August it will stop arresting anyone who has small amounts of marijuana. That’s because hemp and marijuana are very hard to tell apart, AJC.com previously reported. The Georgia Hemp Farming Act, which became law in May, allows for licensed farmers to grow hemp.

When I want a burger and really want to virtue signal be a really cool dude I reach for the Hybrid burger.

But the brewery and pub chain's latest offering might just be the most unusual yet.

The company are offering customers a brand new hybrid burger, which is partly made up of a very surprising ingredient.

In attempt to bridge the gap between the worlds of meat eaters and non-meat eaters, they're serving up a patty made from half beef and half plant-based fake meat.

Just kidding, I enjoy 100% beef burgers. If I wanted plant based meal, I would get a salad or have coleslaw.

I think that most of us are sick and (add your own adjective here) tired of government employees not adhering to the constitution. University of Iowa administration may have to pay damages from their own check book.

In a decision last week, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa sent a clear message to University of Iowa administrators — uphold students’ rights to freedom of association or face personal liability.

During the summer of 2018, UIowa informed InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, a registered student organization, that its requirement that leaders share the Christian faith was not in compliance with the UIowa Human Rights Policy because it restricted leadership based on religious beliefs. As a result, InterVarsity was deregistered as a student organization and became ineligible to receive funds from the university’s mandatory Student Activities Fees, to appear in university publications, to reserve meeting space on campus, or to utilize university trademarks. At the same time, UIowa recognized other student organizations whose constitutions included language requiring members to adhere to the groups’ mission, such as the National Society of Black Engineers and the Latina/o Graduate Student Association.

Later that summer, InterVarsity filed suit against UIowa, alleging it violated the First Amendment

You don't always get what you want.

For some reason today people think that a company exists to virtue signal, and not to make money.

Take the fast-food behemoth McDonald’s for example. The company makes burgers, and earns billions of dollars in the process. Now, activists want them to change their business model to appease a small percent of the population.

When asked why their London branch did not serve food that met Halal standards, McDonald’s simply responded that it didn’t make financial sense to change things up:

“Hi, we conducted a Halal trial a few years ago and learnt that Halal certified food is only popular with a very small percentage of customers. Given it would require significant changes to our kitchen procedures and supply chain, we have no plans to offer Halal food in the UK.”

My Father would have snorted and told me to rake the damn leaves.

With October underway, it’s time for fall foliage, and while the natural response to leaves dropping on your yard may be to reach for your rake, environmentalists in a new USA Today report say that may actually be harmful.

In 2015, yard trimmings and leaves generated 34.7 tons of waste, which accounted for 13 percent of all waste generation. Of those 34.7 tons, 10.8 million went to landfills instead of being composted or mulched. “The worst thing you can do is put [leaves] in bags and send them to landfills,” David Mizejewski, a naturalist at the National Wildlife Federation, told USA Today. He noted that in addition to taking up space, leaves in landfills can break down with other organic materials to create methane, the greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.

Jeez, with Republicans like this who needs them? Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (RINO) wants to roll out "Red Flag" gun laws.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will officially release the legislative language for several gun control proposals on Monday, including a “red flag” law as well as expanding the background check requirements for firearms transfers in Ohio, but it remains to be seen if any of the governor’s proposals can muster the support they need to pass out of the legislature. The Republican-dominated House and Senate are not rubber stamps for any of the governor’s proposals, and in fact lawmakers have already introduced several alternatives to DeWine’s legislation.

Florida by Osmosis? An Alabama resident and tonight's Genius Award Winner.

An Alabama woman concerned that her methamphetamine may have been tainted with another drug asked police to test her stash, a service request that resulted in her arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

Cops report that Jennifer Colyne Hall, 48, called police dispatch Wednesday seeking assistance.

When Limestone County Sheriff's Office deputies subsequently arrived at Hall’s residence in Toney, a Huntsville suburb, she presented them with a clear plastic bag she had removed from a baby wipes container.

“I want this dope tested,” declared Hall, who added tha

47 We need at least one more real American who believes in the what the Constitution actually says, instead of what the flavor of the month says it is, to be appointed to the SC by PDT before challenges from the gun grabbers and Commies can be successfully subdued.

Then, the Supreme Court can recognize the rights of the 2A as God-given, instead of man-taken, like the Left and GOPe believes.

All of this Ukraine-Trump nonsense spewed by the press is simply because Ruthie is not long for this world and they know that after he has been treated, Trump will choose a replacement that they will despise.

It is really getting obvious to anyone paying attention that the anti-Trumpers are throwing out any sense of factual reporting and going full-Soviet.

103 2. power line has several worthwhile articles on the ukraine hoax. one, "those 'explosive' ukraine texts make zero case for impeachment" has excerpts from volker's closed-door testimony that contradict the dem narrative and their selective "explosive" leaks.

they underscore trump's support for ukraine. i recall a year ago telling people that trump has the strongest policy against russia of the past few decades, and pointing to his support for ukraine in contrast to obama/clinton/kerry ambivalence that only encouraged russian aggression. trump has made this point, but i think it's forgotten in the current coup attempt.

recommended.

Why? If there is a Senate trial of Trump, regarding allegations that he asked foreign powers to act against his political opponents, imagine who Trump could call as defense witnesses.

Barrack Obama.
Joe Biden.
Hillary Clinton.
John Kerry.
...for starters

And, of course, it would be appropriate to declassify transcripts of telephone calls of senior Obama Administration officials, so we can judge whether they were truly acting in the interests of the United States, and not pursuing partisan political ends.

197 we didn't do a movie thread this weekend, and I wanted to write a bit about something I saw last week before I forget it. TCM does really strange cult movies at 2 or 3 in the morning sometimes, and you can see them on playback for a week. So they showed this 1973 animated Japanese - French film, Belladonna of Sadness. wow - at first, words failed me.

It's not that it was bad - clearly a whole lot of creativity and effort went into this. It was just so... wrong, I kept feeling like Guy in Galaxy Quest, saying "oh that's not right...." The animation was all done in this early Sesame Street/Electric Company style, too - it was like the Electric Company for perverts and satan worshipers. It was bad enough when it starts out with this pusating psychedlic rape scene - but then the Evil Spirit starts to visit the Heroine, and of course, it is shaped like a little penis. Did i mention this was a musical? There's a nice happy song and dance number between the Girl and her new friend, the Detachable Penis.

He gets bigger and bigger as his evil grows, but his head is always a giant dick. Sure, why not. And actually I couldn't watch it all the way through. As if what I've already related wasn't bad enough, my wife walked in when they were doing the Sesame Street version of The Black Death. I expected them to show a scene of peasants bodies laid out in rows while they happily sang "one two three, four five six, seven eight NINE ten!!!" with multicolored stars exploding overhead.

It was the kind of thing where you keep both hands on your face all the way through.

The late, great Jerry Pournelle was once at an "alternative energy fair" with his long-time coauthor Larry Niven. One of the exhibits was of a guy pedaling a stationary bicycle to generate electricity, run a grain grinder, and so on.

Niven and Pournelle suggested that to make the scenario more authentic, they should dress the guy in rags and chains, and have an overseer standing by with a whip.

'Cause that's what would happen in short order.

There are better bottles of sparkling wine out there for less, but if you have to have real Champagne, this is not a bad price value. You can get cheaper Champers in the UK but it is pretty rare here and it is not very good.

331 I've seen some proposals to use liquid nitrogen to power vehicles (you boil it off and use it to run either a classic piston steam engine or a turbine).

It has some real advantages over electricity and hydrogen. Doesn't need expensive, polluting batteries, like electric. Doesn't need an exotic pressure tank, like hydrogen (the tank just needs to be well-insulated, it doesn't have to hold pressure). Since it's a liquid, the car could be filled up quickly, as you can with gasoline. The "waste" is just nitrogen gas, which goes right back in the same atmosphere it was taken from to begin with.

Of course, you still need to spend the energy to make the liquid nitrogen. That's where a whole bunch of nukes would come in handy.

It doesn't have the energy density of batteries, but, as noted, it also doesn't need a zillion dollar battery to hold it.

359 If we out private conversations between leaders, we've got problems.

I can't believe that Vladimir Putin, say, thinks that phone calls with other national leaders are particularly secure. Transcripts are prepared of these calls which can be accessed by a number of people, you don't know who is on the call, and of course, foreign intelligence agencies are spending billions to try to intercept these calls.

It's one of the reasons why leaders like getting together in person - you can meet in a windowless room that has been checked for bugs, you have white noise generators outside the room, and the only other people in the room are the translators.

I can't believe it, first time in my life, but I've found a nasty little bug in Intel's whiz-bang C/C++ compiler.

I had written a couple of programs to solve those word jumble puzzles in the paper. It started with my mother, who had been doing those things in the local newspaper for years. She'd get stumped and try to get me to help her. So I wrote a program to do it.

A couple of months ago, I revisited it, and decided to make it threaded, to take advantage of multi-cores, and I've been playing and refining that for the past few months off and on.

Well, long story, but Intel's compiler is generally better than Microsoft's, but on this one, MS beat it and by a good bit. So I got to digging, and discovered it was some bug in the optimizer.

I just found that bug a few minutes ago. Exactly how the compiler was screwing up.

The state of the art on document security, is no longer the "slight variation" between numbered copies handed out to a limited number of people.

Rather, the copies now are to all appearances, identical. Every word, grammar, punctuation...identical.

The codes though are hidden in extremely sight variation in the fonts of certain letters or digits, as well as kerning, spacing and even individual serifs as parts of very specific letters and digits.

A scanner with the right program can tell who spilled what, just by a scan of those hidden codes.

AOP has it right though. Scan through OCR. But then change font to Arial Bold for EVERYTHING.

That'll wipe out all the kerning and serif crap.

But if we can figure that out, then so can they.

Wonder what else they've got cooked up?

Remember. The SR-71 used to be State of the Art, too. And they still haven't let us see that one's replacement.

I have a '70s vintage Micronta Bulk Tape Eraser.

Big honkin' electromagnet, about 1/2 the size of a standard clothes iron. Similar handle, but rectangular "footprint".

I can set that on top of any hard drive on the planet, let it run for ten minutes, changing the orientation 90 degrees every 2.5 minutes.

There's not enough "electronics" left over to rate as better than "null" no matter what's hooked up to it.

It will, and has, fried old digital cameras, cel phones and countless hard drives.

I could charge fees for it's destructive power, actually.

That "one time use" printer? Dots, my ass. It would never respond to power input, ever again.

460 Plausible take???:
When Trump said, earlier in the week, that he was going to sue the bejeebers out of people, here's what he meant/was referring to -
1. NO prosecutions of any executive branch personnel or civilians assisting them, with perhaps the exception of Brennan and the other chiefs, but probably not.
2. All relevant executive department personnel and civilians assisting them will be given lifetime probation, lose clearances, etc., but otherwise immunity from prosecution in exchange for giving up everything they've got to give up (information-wise), and as for married couples, it's a package deal.
3. DOJ will go after current and former members of Congress, and former senior executive branch personnel (cabinet heads/secretaries and those with cabinet rank such as WH chief of staff), to the extent, of course, that they are some people who did something. Obama will not be touched.
4. Trump and others (Manafort, Flynn, etc.) will sue the crap outta everyone in #2 (remember, immunity = no 5A protection) for the rest of their freaking lives.
5. This accomplishes several things:A. Limited resources and public appetite for trials. After awhile it'll look like the show trials of Stalinist Russia + these things ain't free.

B. More palatable to the agencies (FBI, CIA, etc.) politically because "their own" won't be on trial. Instead, they can blame the same people everyone loves to blame (no, not Jews this time -- Congresscritters, though some be MOT, sigh) for abusing their incredible powers and co-opting the agencies and certain people in the agencies, none of which would have happened without the CCs and WH cabinet-level oligarchs.
C. Stroke, McCabe, and all the other agency players will meet a fate worse than prison -- being sued into oblivion for sport by a guy who is ready, able, and champing at the bit.
D. Narrows the focus to the true locus of the power we need to scour -- Reps, Senators, and senior WH officials. They're the genesis of all this and they're the ones who truly betrayed this country, and they're the ones who caused this all to happen. Without this level of senior government, nothing happens. Obama wasn't going to do all this stuff without sufficient bigwigs in the D.C. cocktail party scene, and from the other end, it's not like the intel chiefs, FBI, etc., got together and put together an apparatus just waiting for the right (corrupt) elected/appointed officials to make use of it, and they certainly couldn't do things like make quids pro quo with foreign countries. DOJ and other relevant agency personnel will be more motivated to go after the really big fish who corrupted their agencies. In essence, this targets the leadership of the Deep State rather than going after senior worker bees. Obama gets left alone for political reasons and to add insult to injury. When Biden, Schiff, et al., whine that this was all Obama's idea -- maybe, but he couldn't have done it without you and they (agency personnel) wouldn't have done it without you.
That's my thinking. I can live with it.

Take a drill press and bore several holes straight through it. That will make it unreadable for just about anyone save for Bob. It will probably ruin it for BOB too, but to be sure, take an O/A torch and rip through it, melting it down real good.

That will destroy just about any traces of information still left that might be lifted by some extremely advanced and expensive method.

Or, cruise twenty miles off shore and toss it off into the drink.

Here, just offshore Galveston, that'd be about sixty to a hundred feet of water, on average. We don't get to 120 ft. Red Snapper depth till we're out to, oh, forty five, fifty miles-ish.

But 200 miles out? Wow, that Continental Shelf all of a sudden is showing 900 to 1,200 ft. on the sounder.

Think they're gonna find it then?

West coasters have the best advantage here.

Southern CA, the depths offshore can exceed 3,000 fit at only 10 miles off the coast.

476 If you want to destroy a hard drive, I remember reading an article about the best methods. Assume your adversary is the US govt, with Bob@NSA and all the tech he has at his disposal.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion of a Poperin Pear at October 07, 2019 12:34 AM (f1Vqw)

Take the drive apart. They have some nifty rare-earth magnets in them that worth having. Take the actual disk itself, and throw it into the hot coals of a fireplace or campfire, or even a charcoal grill. If it's heated above its Curie point, any remanent magnetism in the disk should be wiped out, and the disc itself probably warped too badly to be mounted and spun up.

Prolly want to throw the little circuit board on the coals, too, in case there is a little non-volatile memory in a chip.

A late friend of mine was an Army comms guy toward the end of the cold war.

According to him, in the event that his position was about to be overrun, standard procedure for a piece of...equipment...he was responsible for was to fire several 12 gauge slugs into the HD, then put a thermite grenade on top and pull the pin before bugging out.

Just ordered 30mm Ruger rings for the rifle, to get shipped in time for the Mo Meet.

Got all the steel cut for the rifle target hangers.

Still gotta make up the sawhorse type hanging frames, but that's a wee spot o' work.

I'll start "pre-packing" which is laying out lots of hardware on the floor, and making decisions as to "bring or leave".

If I brought it all, the Mo Meet would have to last a week, for everyone to get a turn behind this trigger or that.

There was some hacker in Europe somewhere who was running one of these anonymizing relays, part of TOR and other things.

He was worried about a raid getting his hard drives and leaking some information that might trace some of his users. So he was bragging about he rigged some thermite self-destruct devices on his servers. He put them right on the hard drives.

If they started breaking down the door, he would trigger those and it would instantly melt down the hard drives.

There's a good application for those hard drive magnets, which are usually vaguely crescent shaped, and on a metal plate with two screw holes (how convenient!).

Mount a pair of them, one on either side of the swinging target panel, so that in the "at rest" position, the panel comes close to, say about 1/8", but does not touch the magnets. Would keep the panel from swaying in the breeze, and damp the panel's swinging after being struck by a shot.

I've made up a hinged system on 2"x3/16" bar, with a dampener built into the system.

There will be no lateral osciallations. And the swinging plate is dampened by it's position relative to the swinging fulcrum arm and welded-on and damped stop plate.

The 10" dia. AR-500 target will be utterly stationary before the shooter even begins to line up his next shot.

Thermonuclear Understatement, this.

Derailed a career path for me, threw me into the toiling class for more than a decade.

I don't give a fuck about the prisoners in Gitmo. Fry 'em n' forget 'em.

But what bills passed for Homeland Security, utterly fucked the charter boating business for years, until the "new rules" were figured out.

And by then, it was too late.

*this close* to 100 ton USCG Captain's License.

And earning deck time offshore of the Sea Buoy, ain't the cake walk you might think it is.

What it would have taken to have restored myself to that course, would have required me to adopt my two cats out, back then.

Though I might be accused of being a man of few standards, THAT fully exceeded, even those.

I'll get back on the water, soon enough. Just not with the docs, the license or the stripes.

The only thing WORSE than GWB, would've been his brother, JEB.

Low fucking energy fucking JEB.

Thank God Trump punched that low energy asshole's ticket, early, often and enthusiastically.

Now I know there are exceptions and dogs can be crazy intelligent and do amazing things particularly to help out their best friend, man.

But in general, if you are talking mutts, cats are more intelligent. I have known quite a few dogs who would stand on the side of the road and then jump in front of a car when it went by. Sad stuff and a lesson to never lose track of a rando dog.

I had cats that I didn't like that much that mostly kept to themselves except for feeding. They would lay in the street at night i guess because it was warm. If a car came barreling down the road, they would look up lazily, saunter to the sidewalk, and let the car pass by. Then they would go back into the street and lay down.

it is a very diverse state. There are few red states left that are not diverse. It is the lefty Blue states that are homogenous of thought. They are all lefty all the time.

I remember when Ohio finally allowed shall issue CCW. They added crazy stipulations, such as you have to inform police in a minute or you are in deep crap. They had others i can't recall right now but they were freaking crazy.

I have noticed people taking shots at Ohio recently and for sure it is fair game. But I believe they voted for Trump and Bush JR. Ohio seems to be the bellweather, the one that decides it all. Sure invest in "Ohio but that would not be the state i bashed. I think Texas has a lot to explain before ohio does. I think PA and Wisconsin are the ones we have to keep. Yes we have to keep Ohio, but if that is the one we are fighting over, all could be lost. The one I refuse to give back is PA. The only way they steal it is by big city grift.

If you want to you can cook down the pomache and run it through a food mill to get the pips and skins out, and use the pulp to make grape jelly. It is like the grappa of jam.

I moved there when I was just a few months old in 1969, and throughout the 70s, moved between San Diego and NAS Alameda due to my dad being a squid.

My baby sis was born in San Diego and baby bro was born in Oakland.

i have some experience with that state. I don't deny that there are red pockets. I remember when it was an R state, but even then it was statist in many ways. i know about Bomber Bob Dornan, and many others. The point I was making is ohio is diverse AND Republican. California can't say that now can they? I realize it is a big state with lots of Republicans but who thinks they will vote R any time soon? What I question is the Ohio bashing. "Ohio is a hell of a lot more red than CA.

and there will always be more city folk than country. It is simple arithmetic. If a place is country, then it is less populated. Look at VA and PA, The states are 80 percent red. It doesn't matter if the population is in the 20 percent. And I do get is about CA. They should divide that state. The only thing i don't get about CA Repubs is the acceptance of statism.

MR I always look at these stories and try to consider all of the angels. My guess is that many of the stops are illegal aliens. As they know that they will just go into hiding and not pay the fines it is easier to just let them walk away. Many town with high illegal alien population have ended routine traffic stops for vehicle problems and DUI road blocks as all they ever catch is illegals.
