THE SATURDAY NIGHT JOKE

Jeff Zucker of CNN, Dean Baquet of the New York Times, and Martin Baron of the Washington Post are all killed in a tragic accident at a gathering of leading news executives.

They find themselves standing together before shining heavenly gates and a pleasant young man at a desk greets them. “Hello, I am the senior assistant to the admissions committee, and I am here to guide you through the process. Here is your life record which will be the basis upon which you will be evaluated. Please look it over carefully.” He hands each of them an enormous bound stack of hundreds of pages.

Baron reacts angrily: “The first pages are nothing but false horrible accusations!”

Baquet and Zucker also complain that their records also open with terrible falsehoods.

The young man smiles and says, “No problem.” He takes a fresh stack of paper and an ornate feathered quill pen and writes “Retraction” in large letters on the top of each page, copies and edits each offensive item to a retraction page and then carefully adds the pages to the bottom of each man’s record and rebinds each record with an enormous heavenly stapler.

“You can go in and present your life résumés to the committee now.”

Dean Baquet objects. “But the false horrible stuff is still on the top pages. No one is going to read down to the bottom where you put the retractions.”

“Exactly,” said the assistant. “Best of luck in there.”

Man, always attempting to make camping moar luxurious. Ten different ideas over the years.

Home is where you park it,” one now-famous Instagram influencer Foster Huntington—a former New York designer at Ralph Lauren—titled his Kickstarter campaign when he traded his fast-paced, high-pressure life behind for days on the road in a suped-up Volkswagon camper in 2013. Now, #vanlife on Instagram has racked up nearly 6 million posts of folks chronicling their adventures in conversion vans, retrofitted school buses and other motorhomes.

Christmas is right around the corner. Or so say the store displays I've recently seen. Could this be the perfect gift for the person who has everything?

The thing about eating potato chips is that you can’t eat just one. Unfortunately much of the grease and/or colored flavoring from those yummy snacks remains on your fingers and subsequently wiped on clothes, napkins or any other convenient absorbent material. Steinbert Solutions has addressed this very issue with “Chip Fingers”, very clever protective finger covers to wear while eating messy chips, snacks or other finger foods. The finger covers are made of silicon and are available in four different colors – green, blue, purple and red.

The quirks of border-making. Or the man who went to war with Canada.

The border between Canada and the United States is the longest in the world. It spans 5,525 miles, separating the Yukon from Alaska, Saskatchewan from Montana, Ontario from New York. It hosts its share of difficulties: smuggling, undocumented crossings, the militarized edge that has come to characterize such spaces. But in terms of actual land disputes, things are calm the whole way through—almost.

Then you get to the northeast corner. Depending on whom you ask, Machias Seal Island is either off the coast of Maine or of Grand Manan. It’s also either American or Canadian. It is the only place with this particular unsettled identity that you can actually stand on top of. Although the ownership of some stretches of water is still contested, this island—and neighboring North Rock, which is even smaller and barer—are the last crumbs of their land the two countries don’t agree on.

Stephen Kelly, a former journalist and diplomat who summers in Jonesport and is a research scholar at Duke University, has been studying this dispute for over a decade. He has built up a sense of its progression, which he says “nicely illustrates a lot of the quirks of border-making.”

A Universal Studios actor who dressed as Gru from the film 'Despicable Me' has been fired after he flashed a hate symbol on a 6-year-old's shoulder.

The second-grader's mother, Tiffany Zinger, said the incident occurred when she and her family attended a character breakfast at a Universal Orlando hotel in March when her children who are biracial took pictures with a "Despicable Me" character.

Zinger, of Colorado, said she spotted the character forming an OK symbol in the photos months later.

The OK sign is used to express white supremacy in extremist circles, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

29 Hey everybody.

Ken Levine runs a good blog overall, but every now and then he just has to get nasty and political.

Today he wrote about how disgusted he is that the movie JOKER is doing so well. He made some okay points about how he dislikes disturbing/depressing entertainment, which I can understand.

But then he's also convinced it's going to trigger copycat murderers with guns. He's just salivating about "taking guns away" and also had to throw in "why see it anyway, when the real Joker is in the WH??"

Ken, for the love of God, keep it to yourself.

48 I liked 'Joker' but didn't love it. I already reviewed it last Thursday night. Trevor Lynch over at Unz also reviewed it. Lynch is a bit of a racist and a lot of a weirdo... but that probably qualifies him to review this movie better than most. He thought it was meh too.

I don't care if it 'inspires' violence because... it won't. Losers are going to be losers and do violence whether or not they feel validated by watching a loser on the screen.

As for Ken Levine : he is just another snowflake looking for his safe space. Shoo away now Ken, the adults are talking.

113 Had a funny lab puppeh moment today. I was replacing the kitchen faucet. This involves laying on your back in a cabinet, under drain pipes, to unhook, uninstall, and reinstall. Annoying and a little painful. Of course Benny wants to be wherever I am so he is in the cabinet licking and biting drain lines, stealing my tools, and generally not being helpful. But when I was at peak swearing trying to get to old faucet out, Benny low crawled up my torso, under the drain lines, put a paw on either side of my head and started puppy kissing my whole face. Which I couldn't stop since both hands were busy. Then he rested his head on my face so I couldn't see anything. I guess we were done. Lol.

122 When you are working on code that somebody else wrote, how do you resist the temptation to rename a bunch of carelessly named variables? If it's code that I now "own forever," I go ahead and do it. But if it's code that's worked on by several guys, I have to resist big edits like that, because of the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" rule.

I'm debugging something that has a variable named "delay." The bug is related to conversion calcs among "delay" and various temps, e.g. from usec to sec, etc. It would be SO VERY much easier to read and debug if I could rename "delay" to "delay_usec" and "temp_delay" to "temp_delay_sec," etc. But it's open source, so I don't "own" it, and I am reluctant to be seen as the jerk who checked in a delta of 500+ lines of changes that the ponytails and neckbeards will decry as "unnecessary."

What do you guys do in a situation like this?

The guy was no longer with the company, but highly regarded by the management types. I later found a bug in a 6502->Z80 cross assembler that he had written. When I mentioned it to him at a social gathering, he turned on his heel and walked away.

A real prima donna.

4. Obscure it further.

I'll probably do number 1. My last job before retiring, I had the luxury of being the one and only surviving programmer, and I owned everything (including the many defects and related field failures,) so I linted and renamed and refactored the living shit out of the whole code base. Found and got rid of a lot of problems that way, and made subsequent maint a whole lot easier. But I guess I can't do that on open source, because somebody will hate it and revert it.

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) - It's a real ice cream flavor: guinea pig.

Anyone who thinks of guinea pigs as pets - cute, squishy, squeaking bundles of fur - might find that idea hard to digest.

The rodents are a traditional hot dish in some Latin American countries, including Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. In Ecuador, people typically cook guinea pigs with salt and serve them with potatoes and peanut sauce. But one vendor is taking things to another gastronomic level, serving guinea pigs as a cold dessert.

Some people like ice cream made from "cuy," as the animal is locally known.

"I was suspicious, but it was tasty," said Marlene Franco, a 78-year-old retiree who tried a scoop at a stall next to a highway linking the Ecuadorian capital of Quito to the city of Sangolqui.

6.5 a brilliant failure. I'm not sure why the SJW crowd are protesting this, Joker is basically an Antifa progtard hero

MINOR SPOILERS:

This is not a funny movie, it is not a black comedy. It's a brilliant film so desperately wanting to succeed that it is wooing the audience in every perfect shot. It seems to crave an award with such anguish that it fails to deliver an entertaining narrative. I have no regrets seeing this. But this is not Joker. This is a mentally deficient moron without a sense of humor that is crying out for help. There are SOME genuinely funny scenes that succeed. But they are few and far between. 360 Been pondering more on the NTSB B-roll of the B-17 crash.

After watching it a couple more times, might be able to lay to rest the rumor of bad fuel knocking out all engines which also undercuts the overweight idea.

Opening of the video when the camera is aimed at the scorched deicer fluid tank. To the left of the partially ejected top turret is one of the planes other three R-1820s. Notice how the one visible prop blade is bent back as if it impacted the ground while still running.

Later when we see the NTSB people do a walk that follows marks on the tarmac, look at those marks. They curve and thus taking the B-17 off the runway and into the building.

Question becomes what would cause such? Could it be bad brakes? Or perhaps landing short on the grass might have jarred the right main gear to collapse.

Still don't know why the plane landed short of the threshold.

403 Alcohol is treated by the body liver in kind of a similar way to carbohydrate, in that the body treats alcohol preferentially, almost as a poison. It gets burned first, before carbohydrate, which gets burned before any fat. Any excess carbs gets turned into fat. This is one reason why "breathylyzers" work to measure blood alcohol level, it is partly processed through the lungs and expelled. The same is also true with fat burning, and why "keto breath" is a thing. When losing weight, breath can get foul. Weird, huh?

J. Brennan has indeed been subpoenaed by the GJ headed by USA J. Brennan has agreed to provide such an "interview", as he described it, subject to representation by council. Such an "interview" shall be considered legal testimony or otherwise a legal deposition for the investigative purposes of the DOJ. This comes from an informed source from within the DOJ who I have just spoken with tonight.

According to my source - and he's really good - Brennan is the last in a long list to submit to an "interview."

"Interview", by the way, according to this AUSA, is just a target's euphemism for "subpoenaed" deposition, and if he is indeed the last in this process, it means he is indeed the target of a GJ.

445 Brennan should enter a Grand Jury Room that's had it's walls and floors covered in layers of heavy contractor's Visqueen plastic sheeting.

Only to confront a table displaying a wide array of tools, suitable to what can only be called, The Inquisitor's Art.

The solid oaken chair he's to be seated in should have heavy leather straps and buckles for the wrists and ankles, and a floor drain should exist directly under the chair.

Who knows, perhaps such a in initial display at the introductory phases of the interview might prove to be compelling as to the subsequent flow of testimony?

Or, the flow of bodily fluids.

Don't much care either way. His choice.

446 If you really want to get a World War II squee on...

The FHCAM is about to start flight testing of Me 262A-1a/U3 Werke #500453 using Jumo 004B engines rebuilt with modern compressor blades and such.

https://modelpaintsol.com/news/restored-me-262-flight-test-pictures

But before swooning over things like the fabric dope over seams; FE-4012, whom its pilot Roy Brown called Connie the Sharp Article, was bailed out to Hughes Aircraft in May 1946 for a comprehensive rebuild. At this time it also gained the fighter nose of Me 262A-1a Yellow 7 which is now on display at NASM. Yellow 7 in exchange received 4012's photo-recon nose before being donated to the Smithsonian.

4012 was used in tests against the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star, in most ways the Schwable was superior to the P-80.

When it was decided to restore Yellow 7, 4012 was in the hands of Ed Maloney and thus the only civilian owned Me 262. Ed was unwilling to part with the nose of his jet but did donate Yellow 7's original forged gun mounts so the Smithsonian could bring their plane back to its original fighter configuration.

Just checked my email. It says there was a "Successful E-ZPass Account Replenishment" even though I didn't really do anything. But hey -- success!

A month ago, I messed up at work. I met with the boss, we talked about it, I took my reprimand, and was told I had to acknowledge the reprimand on the company's HR platform. So I did. You know what it said? "Activity successful!" right down to the exclamation point.

Baron of the Washington Post are all killed in a tragic accident at a
