CBS Reports "The Real Bombshell" in the NYT Smear: That Blasey-Ford and Her Friends/Co-Conspirators Threatened to Smear Leland Keyser If She Didn't Back Up The Lie

And Blasey-Ford actually did smear Keyser at the hearings, if you remember.

This was outrageous.

[Kavanaugh] pointed to Keyser's statements that she didn’t remember the event. "All four people allegedly at the event, including Dr. Ford’s longtime friend, Ms. Keyser, have said they recall no such event, "Kavanaugh said. "Her longtime friend, Ms. Keyser, said under penalty of felony that she does not know me and does not believe she ever saw me at a party ever."

During her testimony, Ford downplayed the fact that Keyser didn’t have any recollection of the incident. [Girlish Baby-Talk Voice ON] "Leland has significant health challenges, and I'm happy that she’s focusing on herself and getting the health treatment that she needs," Ford said. "I don't expect that P.J. and Leland would remember this evening."

This line of attack had been pre-schemed with the Beach Friends. In fact, one of the Beach Friends suggested straight-up extorting Keyser.

"Keyser later said she felt pressure by both [Ford classmate Lucy] Gonella and Ford's friend Monica McLean to change her story," Pogrebin and Kelly wrote.

"I was told behind the scenes that certain things could spread about me if I didn't comply," Keyser told the authors.

A group text recounted in the book between Ford’s friends following the hearing included discussions on how to convince Keyser to modify her story....

Another friend, a man who’d gone to Holton's brother school, suggested making Keyser's "addictive tendencies" -- the authors describe in the book her struggles with alcohol and drugs — widely known. "Perhaps it makes sense to let everyone in the public know what her condition is," the man texted.

Posted by: boulder t'hobo at September 17, 2019 02:27 PM (ykYG2)

I think that is why so many chose to follow Christ. He didn't impose all the legalistic rules required by the Pharisees and Sadducees, he expressed the tenets of faith succinctly: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and spirit, and love your neighbor as yourself. If you do those two things, the rest generally shakes out okay.

My favorite example of this was the man born blind, whom Jesus healed. When he was questioned by the Pharisees, he explained what happened, and they tried to get him to say something else entirely. He stuck to his story and finally asked, "do you want to be his disciple too?" (I'm paraphrasing from memory) Apparently they went apoplectic at that.

Nothing much has changed, has it?

I used to believe that CBF actually believed her own story. She actually believed she remembered a party with those four other people, where what she said happened, had happened.

Even though the four other people claimed, not that what supposedly happened didn't occur the way she said, but never even happened at all. The other four all agree, there was never a party with the five of them. None of them had, or had access to a house like she described. There isn't a house in the area like the one she described. They never acted the way she said, in fact, they would not ever act the way she said they did. They were all in agreement and in opposition to her story, even though some had motivations to agree with CBF.

I used to think CBF believed her story. Just like my sister believed that she was a prophet of God when she stopped taking her meds.

Now I think there is a simpler explanation. CBF is a lying scumbag, motivated by some insane political desire to defend abortion at any cost. Thank God she was too stupid to come up with any plausible story.

238 I think that is why so many chose to follow Christ.

Posted by: Moki at September 17, 2019 02:36 PM (mFoNl)

I think you've got some substance there. The Left loved their self-aggrandizing legalistic bullshit. Christianity's overall anti-authoritarian tone (dismissive of the importance of temporal authority) annoys them to no end.

252 "Lewandoswki: "I didn't do anything illegal."

Cohen: "The public will determine that."

A vicious/dishonest prosecutor could frame a person, a jury could be deceived into a guilty verdict ... BUT neither the public nor the prosecutor determines the actions of the citizen.

When OJ murdered Nicole, he became a murderer. The jury did not turn him into an innocent man, they just failed to convict. The same works in reverse, an innocent man can be judged guilty, does not make him guilty.

But the malicious investigation (as the House is trying to do) is a punishing weapon in itself. But malicious and dishonest selective prosecution is itself a crime, that gets disregarded as within the purview of the prosecutor. (prosecutors have broad discretion, but framing people for political intent and conspiracy ... is NOT within their broad discretionary powers, as I understand it. It is conspiracy, but hard to prove ... imo)

Deep Evil is blackmailing someone else into kidnapping a child and then orderung that person to torture the child on video and send the video to the child's father and informing him that the torture will stop if he picks up a baseball bat and bashes the intended original victim over the head.

That's the level the Modern Left works on when it comes to evil. They's really deconstructed the sausage-making of evil and perfected it to a fine art.

We need a new word for this level of evil.

Halfway through my time at Cornell, they removed all the Engineering majors from the intro Chem course that had up until then been for both Engineers and Arts/Sciences majors (which included all the pre-meds)

Here's how Princeton worked.
Your first year, you had to do a dissertation on a given subject and present it to the heads of the departments.
The second year, you were given a topic and had to do that dissertation in either Greek or Latin, and present it to the heads of the departments.
The third year you were given a topic and had to do the dissertation without the paperwork, in either Greek or Latin, to the heads of the departments.
The fourth year, you'd show up and they'd assign you a language and a topic and you had to do the dissertation to the heads of the departments.

That's how you passed.

Kid the daughter is back to classes, but has to be careful not to overdo it. Docs are trying to figure out the best course for her immune issues, and we are working with diet first. While my dad was undergoing a procedure to have a cyst removed from his kidney I sat in the waiting room and read a freebie newspaper thing called "Natural Awakenings" filled with articles and adds for yoga, acupuncture, and other such things. Get your degree as a doctor, get to Sarasota (or any place else nice with a lot of money) and start doing acupuncture and other Oriental medicine, adding in crystal bowls, tarot and the rest of the stuff if you are so inclined.

++++++++++++++++
It does seem to be a mix, and how you define "really sick." The big differentiator seems to me to be (I am *not* a doctor or anything like one) between "trauma" and "illness."

When it comes to trauma, at least, there's never been a better time to be alive. Doctors are damn good at patching up grievous physical injuries. The acute stuff seems to be well progressed to an almost unbelievable level.

Illnesses and the chronic stuff does not seem to be nearly as far along. I have been involved in some of both (more trauma), and trauma docs seem to do a lot less guesswork/inference - probably because cause and effect are so apparent and well understood.

As a teaching assistant at Berkeley for the freshmen chemistry course, pre-meds were by far and away the worst - whiners and wheedlers who constantly sought "partial credit" to score a point ir two more on quizzes and exams. I jokingly told my peers that I really ought to have taken down the names of every pre-med who went through my classes so as to be able to avoid them like the plague if they ever went into practice by some miracle.

*screaming barbarians come over wall*
Posted by: Vanya

Actually, having Roman Numerals in the first place had a lot to do with the fall of Rome, and of limited Rome's eventual dominance even when at the height of power.

True, the Roman system was superior to most earlier systems because at least it was based on units of ten ("base ten"), whereas a lot of previous systems (like babylonian counting, which was common) was based on units of 60 ("base 60") -- some of which still survives to this day in the form of time-keeping 60 seconds, sixty minutes) and degrees of circle divisions (i.e. 1 degree is 1/360th [or 6 x 60] of a circle), since clocks were round and the Babylonian system was itself ultimately based on attempt to regularize celestial calculations, so they rounded off 365.25 to 360 and divided a circle into 60 segments (now our time system) and then further divided each segment into six degrees (how we still measure anything circular).

But for most day-to-day math, having Base 60 is ridiculous and makes calculations and advanced mathematical visiualization extremely difficult.

The Romans improved on that with Base 10, but FAILED because they never developed unique symbols for each "place" in the base-system. And this failure also rendered any development in math (which is necessary for civilizational development) extremely difficult.

It was the Indians (from India) who (over the millennia) developed the concept of not only having base ten, but also have a unique symbol to represent each integer amount below ten.

When the Arabs (who originally had no known numeric system up til then) invaded Hindu areas in the 7th century, the encountered the Indian counting system and realized it was a good idea, so stole it and brought back tot he Middle East. Then when they later also invaded Spain and Eastern Europe, the Europeans saw the new system and adopted it (which is why to this day it is mistakenly called "Arabic numerals).

But because the Arabs had this new system for a few centuries before the Europeans, they were able to adapt and expand original Indian concepts and start what we now know as "algebra" (Arabic "al-jabr"), the beginnings of true mathematics.

And it was entirely possible because FINALLY there was a rational way to represent numbers and then effortlessly manipulate those representations.

Try doing algebra or try to represent a non-integer (like 6.67 or 3.14) with Roman Numerals and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, Roman Numbers are what held the Romans back!

Yep, Henry only executed two wives --Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard (who were first cousins to each other) -- but a lot of people think he killed them all. And while Catherine Howard really did commit adultery, there's no credible evidence that Anne did. That was just the excuse that Henry used to get rid of her, because he'd already seen Jane Seymour (who was one of Anne's ladies in waiting), and he had the hots for her.

Henry may as well have killed Catherine of Aragon. He basically imprisoned her for years in some manor houses, restricting her movements and limiting who she could see and what she could do. She mainly spent her time studying the Bible and praying for him to change. Didn't work.

Personally I want an autistic / OCD previous owner. You know that guy took care of every little maintenance issue that came up. THAT should be what's in car ads.

474 >>All very puzzling given the Pre-Season he had. Not a lot of playing time, but very effective when he was on the field. He needs a couple of games as started under his belt to be sure, but I suspect he is ready. As I say, I think he'll beat the spread. I'll put my collection of ampersands on it, and throw in my cache of question marks.

He's clearly got talent. I watch all of the Jets pre-season games and he did play well much of the time.

But he was also playing against backups and running a very basic offense, just a fraction of what they run during the season. And Belichick loves going up against rookies and backup QBs.

Biggest problem we have right now is the O-line. If they can't get their shit together they could Bart Starr in his prime back there and it wouldn't help.

476 'Don't "general practice" and "family medicine" doctors pretty much just
bring in a "professional-grade" version of WebMD on their laptop/tablet
to every appointment?'

Yup. Family doctors are the dumbest of the bunch. Horribly trained and useless for everything. Dangerous pricks. All cheated to get in. Should be banned. All have been replaced by Nurse Practitioners who have a lot more street cred and can really drill down into your complex multi-diagnosis chronic conditions and balance out your disparate wants and needs while still 'feeling' you.

Unfortunately, all the Nurse Practitioners are being replaced by EMT's with a computer 'cause it turns out primary care management of complex multi-diagnosis is a) actually so easy that a monkey with an iPhone can do it, and b) helps accelerate your deaths, saving Big Gov/Insurance lots of money.

Better off next time you are really sick to just call a Hippy.

Have a nice day!

back.

They are still on Amazon (without needles at least). Full syringe sales depend on a combination of state regs and pharmacy corp policies.

481 When my kids were in school I watched two other kids the same age before and after school, whose parents were both teachers. I could not believe the extra time they got off. If it was "In Service" week, they were not obliged to even show up. Plus they got 5 "Personal" days on top of sick days. Summers were always spent traveling abroad.

Posted by: zombie at September 17, 2019 03:13 PM (Q3dyo)
++++++++++++
I know this thread is dead, but if you're still around Zombie, I have a question. I had heard that Roman numerals were used almost exclusively for final notation - that the actual math was done on the abacus and that the numerals were used to keep place and write solutions.

Obviously, this still effectively hurts things like complex decimals and fractions, etc. but I didn't think they did the actual math with their numerals.

490 The Romans didn't ever really use "Roman numerals" for anything but ceremonial purposes. Mathematics and commerce were done using the Greek system, more or less a backwards gemmatria. Most people in the empire and provinces spoke Greek anyway, so it wasn't all that weird or foreign for them
