You Will Be Made to... Learn to Code

Think Progress had previously been funded by the leftwing funding/agitation group Center for American Progress, who cut them off.

I wonder who funds Center for American Progress.

Oh, right: Names you'd expect, like George Soros, and...Walmart is a major contributor too.

Well whaddaya know.

Corporations are your friends, Stupid Deplorables. DO MOAR FOR YOUR CORPORATE FRIENDS.

And this is fun -- remember when Think Progress Unionized?

Oh yeah:

A writer at Vox admitted that Vox itself is now worth far less than it was capitalized at originally, so I bet they sympathize.

Posted by: Puddin Head at September 06, 2019 04:19 PM (2LelM)

126 I used to wonder why, when journalism has been going through a job-losing bonanza for years and years now, the media is so indifferent and hostile to the economic problems of flyover country. You'd think they could sympathize, right?

I finally figured out why that doesn't happen. Media jobs are largely concentrated in major cities and what that means is the people who work in the media have little to no contact with each other outside of their jobs. They don't live in the same neighborhoods. They're kids don't go to the same schools. They don't attend the same churches or social organizations.

So when media people lose their jobs, it's like they just disappear and the ones still employed can remain in denial about the situation because it's like the fired folks just vanish from the face of the Earth. Which is something these Think Progress people are going to experience first hand.

Unionization at press outlets is usually an attempt to avoid being fired, either for cause (reporters revolt against the publisher, Santa Barbara News Press vs Wendy McCaw), or like with TP as a side effect of the business running out of money.

I didn't say it was a SMART way to go, but that's generally what happens.

I happened to be watching (it was kind of a fluke thing). It seemed to be coming in at the wrong angle towards the end - falling short - and when it got to an altitude of about 400m, the data stopped coming in for some reason.

If it had crashed, you would expect the data to stop at 0m, not 400m, and they still seem to be talking about what might have transpired.

So I'm not sure if they even know that it actually crashed. Where did THAT come from?

Really, I find the whole thing a little disturbing. It has a "meet your new masters" feel to it, and these are the guys who brought you the Caste System (has it really gone away completely?)

Serious thought - I get 'em now and then.

If you asked me in the 90s, I would have absolutely told you we would have a moon colony of some type before I died.

Now ? I don't think so. I think we're going to regress. I think we have to, and probably need to. Our tech has outpaced our politics. We're going to have to correct that balance - by giving up one to advance the other.

412 Text of William Safire's speech for President Richard Nixon, in the event of a disaster besetting Apollo 11.

Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.

These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.

These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding.

They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.

In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.

In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.

Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts.

For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.

Well, it's not like they were flying it like a drone, where you need a pilot. It would be able to operate autonomously. All we really know is that the comm link is down, which leaves a number of possibilities open.

Obviously, losing your comm link is enough to make you look "not happy". Makes you frustrated and worried. Even if it didn't crash, the mission is pretty much a failure, if you can't get that link back.
