Surprise: Bloomberg "Reporter" Misreports a Trump Official's Sarcastic Post Attacking White Supremacist Paul Nehlen to Falsely Cast It As an Endorsement of Antisemitism

Gee, I wonder why people are digging into the media's own social media history and looking for their own scalps to collect.

In one of the most shameful, egregious media failures of the year, a Trump appointee to the Department of Labor was forced to resign after a Bloomberg reporter started asking officials about a Facebook post spun as anti-Semitic, even though it was a clearly satirical post mocking the alt-right.

Earlier this morning, Bloomberg reporter Ben Penn proudly tweeted out a "scoop" about Leif Olson, who recently started as an adviser in the department's Wage and Hour Division:

In reality, the Facebook post in question was the opposite of anti-Semitic. It was a clearly sarcastic post from 2016 about Paul Ryan crushing alt-right challenger Paul Nehlen. If the over-the-top language isn't a tip off, it's a fairly dead giveaway that Olson refers to Ryan having "suffered a massive, historic, emasculating 70-point victory."

When one of the commenters suggests Ryan must be a "neocon" and a Jew, Olson, clearly joking, responded, "It must be true because I've never heard the Lamestream Media report it, and you know they protect their own."

And yet Bloomberg used this to tear him down.

This even brought John Podhoretz back to Twitter, though, I admit, Podhoretz was probably just itching for an excuse anyway.

One more thing:

Guess who thinks that maybe Bloomberg was right and this guy should have been scalped: Right, of course. Famed First Amendment rights defender David A. French.

"If." Jury's still out, I guess.

51 This still isn't as bad as the basically unremarked upon "THE ECONOMY IS AWFUL" lies that the press is pushing. They're literally reporting the opposite of the truth, and they're doing it on purpose. A lot of the time when the press gets it wrong its stupidity, incompetence, laziness or like in this case where its confirmation bias: he saw a story that seemed to support what he believed about his enemies and ran with it.

But the economic news? They know its false. They are aware that they're lying. Its on purpose, by design, and repeated.

110 I probably would have missed the sarcasm, since I don't keep up with all those details, like mocking old tropes (tropes I never even heard, like the Ryan one).

But groups/guilds do indeed protect their own. The lawyer guild loves their power, but the DeepState protected their corrupt guild by running a coup, after rigging the election (and failing).

imo, DeepStateAmerica is a branch office of the GlobalistCabal, perhaps with not single head, but the 20GlobalBanks seen to be central. Atlantic Council, CFR, BilderbergGroup ... idk how many heads the hydra has, but the EU is still trying to control Europe. Likewise he's dithered on big tech censorship and culture war on conservatives. We're getting slaughtered on social media.

184 The Man from U.N.C.L.E. theme was actually four different versions, one for each season. The first had a neat martial air; the second, cool and understated; the third, sort of over-the-top (like its campy season); and the fourth something of a return to the first season's flavor.

There was a Brit import show called Man in a Suitcase in '68 or '69 which had a dynamite theme song: https://tinyurl.com/yymd2o52

Yeah, it was funny, but not out-of-character for Chapelle. On balance, I'd call it good by his standards, not great.

That said, this is so far from a sane society that it does stand out.

Dave has fuck-you money, and can afford to get cancelled, which he was clearly trying to taunt Netflix's audience into demanding.

For a lesser-known and respected comedian doing that routine would be far from tame - it would be instantaneous career suicide.

264 Hi, so I have some experience with HR and conservatives / bad thinkers.

If Mr Olsen has a family, he was told "resign and take this money and be quiet" OR he'd be forced out with no severance and no shot at another related gig, anywhere.

I'm sure he was NOT given a choice (if he has a family to support)

I call my kids "hostages to fortune" and it pains me but they really are. I have to watch my ass ALL THE TIME.

and btw if I were to post something pro-life I WOULD very much be out of a job and it would be problematic for them to be associated with me. that's right now, today, where I live (Philly environs).

I do think our area is possibly the most or one of the most virulently liberal areas of the USA. the overwhelming pharma / education / govt focus of our economy here is probably why.

anyway.

I liked WKRPs theme song

Watching it like a hawk. I've just came to very different conclusions than you. That doesn't make me uninformed.

Their "loosely held coalition" has successfully evaded any consequences for an attempted coup - thanks in no small part to help from the GOP. The kicker is - both sides are still digging in and ensuring that the various agencies that made the attempt possible, like the FBI and DOJ, not only get away scot-free but actually get stronger.

We're watching an expanding Police State consolidate power, with no movement to curtail it. Chaos, either internal or external, and the resulting collapse is the only that situation will reverse.

The revolution you describe will not occur via politics. It can't. You are watching that live and in technicolor. The two dominant parties have successfully conspired to present a fairly limited spectrum of choices on the issues most important to the political class - and furthermore have cooperated to blunt fairly well most of the agenda of the elected outsider.

The GOP was given an opportunity for political revolution with the Tea Part. The GOP declined.
