Fox Business had a guy on today who sells wine, and is trying to open up markets in CHINA.

And will be tariffed by THEM.

Because of Trump Tariffs. So even though he sells very little wine there currently, its all Trump's fault that Chinese won't be drinking high end California wines.

110 On TCM right now, "Sullivan's Travels" by Preston Sturgis (1941) is on - I've always found that a delightful movie, and so did the Coen Brothers. Joel McCrea, a pampered movie director who's always been wealthy and who has always made light, fluffy comedies with no depth, feels guilt about the suffering he sees during the Depression, and he resolves to make an epic film addressing suffering and the forgotten men and women of the depression. But, it is pointed out to him that he knows nothing of suffering, so he decides to go on lam and live as a hobo with no connection to his old life until he understands suffering. identities get lost, and wackiness ensues.

The great epic about the Depression that he dreams of making is going to be called "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?"

and in the end he decides that what people who are suffering and downtrodden really need aren't epics, but comedies. That's what helps them.

A panel of federal judges with the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of appeals

the Electoral College.

State law in Colorado mandates that presidential electors cast their
Electoral College vote for the candidate receiving the most votes

So you believe the jail simply forgot to follow all of the protocols for high value prisoners?

So you believe all of the guards that were responsible for monitoring Epstein simply fell asleep at the switch?

So you believe all of the cameras in Epsteins cell area simply malfunctioned?

So you believe instead of giving Epstein the standard issue paper bedding which can't be used to hang oneself did an oopsie and gave him real sheets accidentally?

Epstein was murdered.

191 I tend to think less of men who tell me they banged 60 chicks but that's just a number. It could be a lesser number.

Back in the day, I had a female roommate for a short time that, at about 32, had slept with over 100 men. She was a very tall, statuesque blonde that liked men. At one point, she was sleeping with a Chippendale dancer who liked to clean house. I met him; he was... as dull as a plastic spork. Not my type.

even if it was incompetence from those 8, it was also incompetence to not have trusted men specifically there, or to move Epstein to a SuperMax or non DeepState facility. Epstein was thrown in the chute of the bureaucratic wood chipper.

Specific instructions were given ... Do Not Turn On the Woodchipper ... first time someone turned it on and left Epstein injured ... but he was left in the bureaucratic woodchipper (vulnerable to the DeepStateMob that desperately needed him dead) ... and oopsy ... 8 people all agreed to accidentally turn on the woodchipper again. It was all perfectly innocent, which is why guards are not talking.

Did anyone give specific instructions to the Mueller coup to ... not run an illegal coup? Because expecting DeepState to not be Deep
State seditionists is an endemic problem (except for those claiming incompetence, who think it is awesome to run a coup and pay no penalty)

Plenty of inbred "aristocrats" back in the day had rooms full of books they didn't or couldn't read to make themselves look intellectual. Often the pages were'nt fully cut so they *could* be read.

Making them look like a bitmap picture is an added level of dopeyness, though. At least the old way you weren't instantly telling everyone you cared nothing for the books.

It makes as much sense as filing your papers by color and size.

302 I found that letter quite enlightening - for one thing, if you've ever dealt with and talked to damaged women (lifetime of abuse, etc) they mostly all sound like that, once you get them talking. I believe everything she said about Kevin; it matches what I already thought about him, he hates his family, and he hates where he comes from, and he hates himself, and he turns that hatred into aggression against everyone around him. The racial slurs she said surprised her? Yeah, I been hearing those for 40 years at least. Not so much anymore, fortunately. Of course Kevin, growing up in a rough family in Lubbock, would talk like that.

As to how well or poorly she writes - now I don't know her age, but have you read anything written by anyone under 30 today? (with a few rare exceptions) She's a freakin' Shakespeare compared to that entire generation.

350 mentioned earlier -- the Electoral College decision today. I'm not going to opine as to good or bad, but I will say that I read the 12 Amendment the same way I do, and that's what was being interpreted. If States could order Electors to vote in certain ways, then they're not Electors, they're just message boys and girls.

Now of course the way for a State to deal with this is to be very careful about who they choose to be an elector. Up until now it's often been an honorary position full of cronies and relatives of politicians.

I think some states list the electors with the candidate they pledged to support on the ballot.

Many people think they are actually voting for the candidate, hence the asinine claims of 'popular vote'. You are voting for individual electors or a pool of electors.

It was the Chevy S-10 truck plant in Dayton. GM closed it, along with the other Delphi (used to be Delco) plants, thus idling thousands and thousands of people. GM moved most of the Delphi work to Mexico (yay Mexico, that giant sucking sound).

So some Chinese guy bought the plant and has made it into some kind of sweatshop glass factory. A lot of the people that worked for GM (aka....UAW) got called back and are kind of sore about getting only 40% of what they made for GM (Quelle surprise, and I bet they weren't that productive, either).

It's a big silly clusterfoxtrot. Sad that so many people lost their jobs, sad that they were overpaid for many years, sad the GM is so badly run, but mostly sad for the city I grew up in, that used to be a nice place to live, has turned into sort of a wreck.

I'm all for Trump trying to bring back manufacturing to the US, but there is a reason why a lot of it left. People thought that they were creating more value in product than they were, and were usually overpaid. The world has caught up in a lot of ways, and they were reluctant to realize that they probably were being paid too much for what they actually did.
It all kind of sucks, because I don't want people to work hard just to be poor, but a lot of people have a shitty work ethic now, too.

And that S-10 plant in Dayton used to be a Frigidaire plant, before GM sold the brand to White Consolidated Industries way back in the late '70's or something.

Posted by: Tom Servo at August 21, 2019 09:12 PM (V2Yro)

The states don't really choose the electors. The Presidential candidates choose their electors and those lists are really the thing that the citizens are voting for, not the candidates, themselves. If there are bad electors then it is because the candidate or the party screwed up.

The court decision was certainly the correct one. Electors are independent agents, the same way that representatives are independent agents and can vote any way they want in Congress. I think what is really happening is the states are realizing that they cannot go ahead with their plan to nullify their own state elections for electors, based on alleged national popular votes, so they are pivoting to the idea of not worrying about which electors are sent and just trying to force the electors to vote for whomever the state tells them to. But that is as un-Constitutional as it gets.

I don't know that this is what's going on behind the scenes but it seems to me that states are realizing that they are going to have issues if their state elections end up having nothing to do with the actual electors sent - especially since those state electors are not on any other ballots in other states (by definition) so they are thinking of worming around that problem by just bypassing the electors, totally, and having the state merely dictate the votes. Clearly, un-Constitutional.

411 Never Stop Praying

If all we had to do was obtain worldly riches, we would be so eager, untiring and persevering in our asking! If all we had to do was find treasure was to dig for it, how much earth we would move! If all we had to do to enter the King's private council and obtain the highest position was to knock, such redoubled knocking would be heard!

But what do we do to find blessing and happiness where they cannot be found? How many rebuffs, how many setbacks are we wiling to endure for the phantom of worldly glory! How much suffering for vain pleasure of which nothing remains but remorse?

The treasures of God's grace are the only true riches-yet they are the only riches we balk at asking for and expecting.

However, we must never stop knocking! The promises of God are always faithful-it It s we who are unfaithful in asking for them.

Back in the Days of Barky when GM was going tits up, their assembly plant in Newport, DE was slated for closure. Along comes a "green new deal" to convert it to an electric vehicle assembly plant run by Fiskars. Lots of back patting, press conferences and taxpayer-backed loan guarantees later, the plant is saved(!), we're told. Yay, us (Barky, Joey Choo-Choo, Dim governor and assorted other political panjandrums, mostly Dims)!

A decade passes and what's going on there now? Why, the whole facility is being demolished, rapidly, to piles of rubble. And nary a peep about what became of all the $$$ that were peed all about the grounds Lo! a decade ago.

LOL. I pointed that out a while ago.

504 Crenshaw is not all that unique in the Special Forces world.

They train hard and fire untold hundreds of thousands of rounds over the years, training, practicing, perfecting to a degree that would have most of us looking for a new hobby, any hobby, other than shooting all the damn time.

And thus, a fair percentage of them....not most, but fair, look down their noses at us "lesser shooters", and would have no quibble at "us" having more restrictions and limitations than "them".

Elitism in the Elite forces? Whodathunkit?

Does explain a bit of Crenshaw though, perhaps?

Not saying that it *does*. All I know of the man is what we all read. He's still got my (tentative) support, thus far... but I am certainly watching for that "Elite" syndrome, as to whether it'll be a thing with him, or not.
