DHS Announces New Rule Ending "Catch and Release," Will Permit Families to be Detained Together Until Their Immigration Hearings

So we're not going to "separate families" any longer.

Of course, the left and the NeverTrumpers (but I repeat myself) are now complaining about not separating children from parents.

You'd almost start to think that it's not "the horror of family separation" they oppose, but rather any border enforcement and any deportation of illegals.

You'd almost think that they know it's politically unpopular to announce their actual goal of Open Borders, so they instead pick and paw at every tiny aspect of border enforcement so they can agitate for Open Borders without admitting they're doing so.

To address the unprecedented flow of families across the Southwest border, the Trump administration on Wednesday announced regulations that will allow families to be detained together, pending disposition of their immigration hearings.

The goal is to end "catch and release." Asylum-seeking families will no longer be released into the United States with a promise to appear in immigration court -- promises that are mostly not kept, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan noted.

...

Under the current interpretation of the Flores settlement, families with minor children must be released within 20 days, on a promise to appear for their hearings, which may take years to happen.

"The Flores settlement is operationally outdated and does not respond to the current immigration crisis," McAleenan told the news conference.

62 There is actually a name for the strategy, in academia:

Problematicization.

It originally applied only to literature, and meant that the goal of reading any work is to finding something offensive or un_PC about it -- i.e. to "Problematicize" the work -- and then whine and complain about it.

In the old days, students would reach authors to appreciate their skill and beauty. Now, the only reason to read any (dead white male) author is to "problematicize" their work, i.e. Shakespeare is a sexist, so-and-so is racist, so-and-so is homophobic, etc. etc.

But now that principle has been expanded and is applied to EVERYTHING -- i.e. the goal of the modern academic leftist is to look at ANYTHING -- any instiution, person, behavior, creation, idea, rule, theory, etc. etc. -- and "problematicize" it, i.e. find what's wrong with it and then whine about the wrongness.

In this instance, if Trump separates families, that's a problem. If Trump keeps families together, then that's a problem too. If Trump does anything, that's a problem, and if he does the opposite thing -- also a problem. Etc. etc.

Consequently, the left, and their opinions and utterances, are not to be taken seriously, or even noticed. They, and their statements, are pure malevolence.

114 Not "GOPe handlers", but bad personnel choices AND a lack of presidential focus [when he applies his will in other areas, he gets results]. Don't forget the complete failure on the appropriations front - Congress has effectively thwarted/zeroed Trump's central policy objective [restoring rule of law at the border and in immigration], without even a hint of "politics" or a price to pay - so it goes beyond bad personnel at relevant agencies, which has been part of the problem.

"sanctuary" lawlessness, an outrage that is now starting to rack up amazing costs in mayhem, child rape, murder, homicide, etc., has doubled [# of jurisdictions] since the enTrumpenation. A pathetic pin-prick $ response - withholding LE grants - has been the sole "response".

There are quite a few in DOJ and sister agencies at state level who are wondering if Barr and Trump will finally actually do something, or even politicize "sanctuary" lawlessness.

A Law which can be changed, or, like immigration law, ignored.

The Posse Act was not only ignored when it was passed (as shown by the Indian Campaigns), but was put in place as an amendment to an Appropriations bill.

135 This excerpt from PJMedia article really illustrates why everything Trump does riles the left
---
Recall that Trump was running after eight years of President Obama. Those eight years saw the federal government attempt to force nuns, literally the Little Sisters of the Poor, to violate their consciences and fund birth control. Obama took 'em to court over that. The eight years of Obama saw activist leftists haul Christian cake bakers to court and destroy their livelihood. The eight years of Obama saw a very emboldened left vent its hatred for everyone to their right, and evangelicals knew we were in their crosshairs. They went after Christian-owned Hobby Lobby, they used our tax dollars to fund abortion, they made their disdain for our faith abundantly clear. The Democrats' 2016 appeal to us amounted to "Vote for us, you stupid, racist, bucktoothed haters!"

146 It's useful to note why the original Posse Comitatus law was passed. In 1878, the country was sick of the corruption that had become endemic under the Radical Republicans, who of course had morphed into the Rapacious Robber Republicans, and the southern states were all finally brought back into the fold, as Reconstruction ended. One of the first things the Southern States demanded after re-entry was that the US stop using Federal Troops to enforce the law in the South, which they had been doing for 13 years. So the Posse Comitatus law was the result.

Every day would have aggressive vituperative attacks on federal/state/local officials behind/tolerating it all - including GOP. Every day would have state AGs from lawless states apoplectic because the feds were "working to rule" [i.e., icing] their priority cases, apply strict reciprocity.

Of course it might have been nice to go on the offensive from the start, so that the Ryan/McConnell GOP could have had its complicity and uselessness highlighted for future political purposes. If one planned to re-introduce politics to immigration rule of law, that is.

Res ipsa, as others have pointed out, means literally the thing speaks for itself.

What it means is that absent some neglence on the part of the person who had control of the "thing," the injury would not have occurred. The classic example is a barrel falling from an elevated storage area into the street. Since that can't happen by itself (England didn't have many earthquakes back in the 1400-1800s), the fact that there was an accident all by itself shows someone was negligent.

The Washington State Supreme Court made the opposite ruling, so there's a good chance that the Supreme Court will take this up to decide the split between the two court systems.

It actually doesn't change things much - just means that States have to be very careful about who they appoint as electors, no more giving it to cronies and good old boys, which has been the practice up until now.

Were the children of American citizens who are arrested for alleged crimes also detained with their criminally charged parents, the crime rate in the US would fall to zero, for two reasons:

1. The children of criminals are overwhelmingly disproportionately criminals themselves; and,

2. Even the worst criminals can be encouraged not to be criminals if their kids are also incarcerated for their crimes.

Discuss.

254 She was very young then, sure .,.. but her screen sisters were definitely much hotter than she was. What was that? La Belle Epoque or something?

Yeah she was not attractive in that at all. Even the girl who thought she was a dude was prettier. That's what I'm talking about, she can look really harsh sometimes.

255 you know you have lots of responsibilities when you have an indentured hottie housekeeper, for starters, do you make her wear the french maid uniform or something she is more comfortable in such as the bikini she wore in her native home?

when she is doing light work and get hot / even hotter do you let her work sans bikini top or do you make her stay in uniform?

256 With electors, it's not so much a question of their independence once they are sent, it's a question of which electors get sent. When you vote for President, in most states, you are really voting for a list of electors. Once there, those electors can do anything they think right - like the electors who should have refused to vote for Barky because he wasn't eligible for the Presidency ...

Howie Carr explained the whole Greenland thing.

Denmark was playing games and talking shit about letting other countries build bases in Greenland.

The point of offering to buy Greenland was to force Denmark to publicly state It Is Not For Sale.

You see, President Trump out-maneuevered the Danes and the Dane realized they got played. So the stupid Danish PM woman prrobably said nasty things to our president, to which President Trump responded by canceling his visit.

Now let's see prosecution of the Mississippi chicken processors for their hiring illegals, and a lot, lot more raids [or better, a big sit-down with known big violator sectors, to provide an easy way, and a hard way, for them to come into compliance, an offer they can't refuse].

And I'll leave off the rest for now.

I think what may happen is that the *Democrats* may call for this sort of thing in their typical anti-business way. So when they do, Trump starts doing it and thus avoids an outcry. And the 'pro business' Dem wing takes another hit.
